wonderful! I sent the same watch into Citizen for a service. It came back fully working and they only charged £60. However, I suspect that they probably just swapped out the movement and threw the old one away. Lovely to see the love, attention, and time given to restore this beautiful old watch.
Wow. I have a ‘thing’ for Citizen and Seiko divers watches. I’ve just sat in awe of this video. I wish I had the knowledge, equipment, steady hands, patience to do this. Thanks so much for the insight. Simply superb!!!
I admire your dedication in every single little detail; especially the amount of patience you had when you tried to remove every bit of debris and residual glue from the bezel groove beneath the spring😊
Wonderful work, but oh boy that chapter ring is totally misaligned....not just a bit, but totally. You probably missed it, but it's with those things that we learn to become even better. Hope you fixed it.
some say you need to let the presure out of the cilinder with the watch case still in the water. only then you can say if bubles coming out or not is a sing of water tight. also test the case only before encolsing the movment within it. if anything goes wrong, the movment dial and hands are still dry and all you need is to sort out a case.
@@wristwatchobsession5585 But you should let the air out of the testing device before you take the watch out of the water. It is then when bubbles will appear if the watch is not sealed.
Great video I have a citizen promaster and have used it down to 20 metres and on dives here in Ireland off the Hook Head light house, they are very reliable watch. mine is not automatic though. again thanks for sharing your great video, cheers from Ireland. ( edited to remove the same word twice. )
Very nice Video. I have an old Citizen Promaster NY0040, if I put it down overnight it runs -160 seconds a day and if I wear it during the day it runs +240 seconds a day.
bel video...solo una precisazione, perchè prima di montare il vetrino non hai spolverato con una pompetta il quadrante? infatti dentro e' rimasta polvere......video bellissimo complimenti!!!!
@@mark_clift hi Mark Yes rodico is a good idea. Thank you. but I didn’t want to cover it in my video so people can see it better and then end up searching for it 😂
Funny .. Red Dead Restoration did this same model watch last year .. it had the same problem .. broken pivot on the pallet fork. Seems a common problem with this watch.
Hi! great video, I wanted to ask if aftermarket seiko dials and chapter rings would fit a citizen promaster? I want to replace my dial and just hoping for some insight. Thanks!
My first dive watch from a decent brand with some horological history was a Promaster Dive eco-drive. I’m looking for a Promaster automatic but to find one for sale is nigh impossible.
Not anywhere close to impossible as they are very common and easily accessible and available for sale all the time from many companies and individuals.
So the movement, dial, etc doesn’t get my fingerprints. Also I think it looks better than pink and white finger cots although finger cots are more comfortable to wear 🙂
Nice video. One question: Was the pressure-test procedure in the video meant as a joke to see anyone was paying attention? (You're supposed to release the pressure with the watch submerged to check for bubbles..).
2 methods. 1 have it in the water and pump the pressure up. If it fills up its leaking (and damaged) 2 you have it above the water, pump up the pressure (if there are any leaks, the air pressure in the watch will go up) then lower it in the water and release the pressure valve. If there was a leak then this will show as bubbles from the effected area as the pressure in the tank becomes normal and the watch equalises with the outside pressure. This way when you find a leak, you can lift it up quick to save the watch.
I just noticed that red seconds hand. Could that be aftermarket? That's supposed to be an ISO Certified Diver's watch. Without lume on that seconds hand, it can't be.
Question about this same model: mine stopped so I opened it to find that the pallet fork correctly engages the escape wheel but everything else is not moving as soon as I put back the bridge... Any advice?
Hi it can be a lot of things from a Brocken week tooth to a Brocken barrel spring. You have to inspect all the parts under microscope. If nothing is Brocken it should work after cleaning.
Great video! Would love to see a side by side comparison at the end of the video of the beginning and final product to see the difference the restoration has made.
Hey, i own a similar ny0080. I removed the bezel a while ago but i never manage to put it back in. I dont know where i could get the proper bezel wire for the case. I got one for a vostok but seems to be extremely difficult to sit in. I got a basic watch crystal press. Any advice?
I've just recently bought the fully lumed version of this watch. Unfortunately I noticed that the bezel is very slightly misaligned. I had considered sending it back but is it possible to remove the bezel and reseat it so that it lines up correctly?
@@wristwatchobsession5585 No, but when you pressure test as a repair person, they typically keep the movement out during that step to ensure water resistence works, to protect the movement. If you treat it with a valuable movement inside and it gets wet, it could be trouble for you.

Why is your movement so dusty during assembly? There was dust all over it in various stages. I don't see that in other watch restoration videos.
You need to release the air while the watch is in the water too
Mine is working perfectly a long for 30 years! Only oiled the rotor for the automatic winding. Want to change the yellow dial against a black one…

It doesn’t matter if it is intact or not. What is important is that no water goes inside. You don’t turn off your watch when you go diving or?
