Restoration of a neglected citizen promaster japanese dive watch automatic NY0040 cal. 8200A

- This time I did a full restoration of this brocken citizen promaster dive watch automatic. the movement was a miyota cal. 8200A equavalent to cal. 8205 ref. NY0040
This watch was severly damaged! the palletfork was not engaging with escape wheel. Glass and the bezel had many scratches and I had to change them both!
1977 Citizen launched his most successful series of 11 1/2 line mechanical movements, the 8200 calibre series. The maximum version with automatic winding, date and day of the week display was the Citizen 8203A calibre. It was later replaced by the practically identical Miyota 8205.
Even with the base board it becomes clear that this movement is designed for durability, every bearing, with the exception of the barrel, has a bearing block, cover stones do not exist except for the balance bearings.
The complete gear train, including the automatic movement and the lock, is mounted under a single large wheelhouse bridge. Only the minute tube got its own small bridge, because the indirectly driven central second drive goes through the minute tube as usual.
Half vibrations per hour: 21600
Number of stones: 21
Shock protection(s): Parashock 1 (Citizen)

4:35 Striping down the movement
7:39 washing the parts

10:25 Assembling the movement

Incredible! Very nice video. Enjoyed it very much. Great job !
Thank you so much Sir!
and what a privilege, an executive VP from Novo Nordisk watching my videos!!
Great work and thoroughly professionally. I need two bezel inserts. How can I get them please?
Thanks
wonderful! I sent the same watch into Citizen for a service. It came back fully working and they only charged £60. However, I suspect that they probably just swapped out the movement and threw the old one away. Lovely to see the love, attention, and time given to restore this beautiful old watch.
Hi! What was the original movement? Did they swap it for a hackable movement?
One of the most beautiful watches ever made!
Good ol' citizen automatic divers watch. They really are a very very good strong watch. Brilliant video 👍.
Wow.
I have a ‘thing’ for Citizen and Seiko divers watches.
I’ve just sat in awe of this video. I wish I had the knowledge, equipment, steady hands, patience to do this.
Thanks so much for the insight.
Simply superb!!!
I admire your dedication in every single little detail; especially the amount of patience you had when you tried to remove every bit of debris and residual glue from the bezel groove beneath the spring😊
Very impressive. That's a watch to be proud to wear!
This beautiful watch from citizen certainly deserve to be restored. Greatly filmed too.
some say you need to let the presure out of the cilinder with the watch case still in the water. only then you can say if bubles coming out or not is a sing of water tight. also test the case only before encolsing the movment within it. if anything goes wrong, the movment dial and hands are still dry and all you need is to sort out a case.
Wonderful work, but oh boy that chapter ring is totally misaligned....not just a bit, but totally. You probably missed it, but it's with those things that we learn to become even better. Hope you fixed it.
Fantastic. Just the right length too. I don't always have time to watch 30-40 minute restorations.
Thank again Dave. I appreciate all your comments 🙏
No bubbles no troubles. I like that. 😄 Fantastic restoration as always! Keep up the good work. 😊
Thank you so much :-)
@@wristwatchobsession5585 But you should let the air out of the testing device before you take the watch out of the water. It is then when bubbles will appear if the watch is not sealed.
@@wristwatchobsession5585This is probably one of the oldest ones
Well photographed, well lit. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for watching
I nearly sold my NY0040. Glad I never after watching this. Nice work
Génial comme travail sur cette CITIZEN 👍
Respect Mec ! 👏
I have this same watch. Amazing watch for the money. Looks fantastic and keep VERY accurate time.
Job well done.
Thank you 😊
This one and the SKX007J are most beautiful watches...just a pity they are so expensive!!Awesome restoration!
Debeer, how ya been?
Great video I have a citizen promaster and have used it down to 20 metres and on dives here in Ireland off the Hook Head light house, they are very reliable watch. mine is not automatic though. again thanks for sharing your great video, cheers from Ireland. ( edited to remove the same word twice. )
Seem to be more common than Seiko here in Ireland
Looks amazing!
Really enjoy watching your videos. Clean work and well done!
Thank you so much 😊
Very impressive! I could never do that. Nice to look AT! 🤔👍🏻
Very well done!..and your camera work is incredible!
Thank you from Denver North Carolina
You're supposed to let out the pressure when the watch is in the water
I just asked him the same question.
@@lordgicht6630ele não fez uma pergunta.
Great job...well done 👌
Great job! Keep em coming.
Thanks Sosin, I appreciate it
Very helpful! I have a citizen promaster for restore and i will begin
Outstanding video 👍
Nice video, congratulations. I would have kept the old bezel, it has its charm
Very nice Video. I have an old Citizen Promaster NY0040, if I put it down overnight it runs -160 seconds a day and if I wear it during the day it runs +240 seconds a day.
Get a quartz if you want functional accuracy.
From italy beatiful
Great job!
Thank you Farhad 🙏
Hermoso trabajo y hermoso reloj
Wish I had all those tools of the trade!
I am literally wearing a more recent release of this watch at the time of typing this
Came over from Instagram. I look forward to watching both of your videos this evening!
THANK YOU 🙏
@@wristwatchobsession5585 good idea to hold some rodico on the other side of the circlip. I have spent hours looking for springs too!
@@wristwatchobsession5585 Nice video, just be cautious of the small lint fibres. Do you have somewhere else you can do case polishing?
@@mark_clift hi Mark
Yes rodico is a good idea. Thank you.
but I didn’t want to cover it in my video so people can see it better and then end up searching for it 😂
Great job
Nice Job
Thanks!
Very good!
Thank you 🙏
Why is your movement so dusty during assembly? There was dust all over it in various stages. I don't see that in other watch restoration videos.
Spettacolo ❤
Magnificent service, you do a great job, I have a similar watch 8203, where did you get the spare parts???
Greetings from Mexico
Yes, where did you get the new spares from???
Great bro
Thank you
@@wristwatchobsession5585 obliged bro
why you change the bezel and arrows from Gold to Silver? i have the same watch ny0045 and i love the gold
I think it's impossible to get these golden parts, I don't find them anywhere.
Amazing! Great video. Where did you get the new chapter ring from? I've been trying to find one for ages now.
great job , but i noticed day wheel not positioned correctly , is this defect in miyota 8203 , i have same watch with exact problem ?????
Mine is working perfectly a long for 30 years! Only oiled the rotor for the automatic winding. Want to change the yellow dial against a black one…
Colossal work!
Thank you 🙏
@@wristwatchobsession5585 Why u always wearing gloves?
So the movement, dial, etc doesn’t get my fingerprints.
Also I think it looks better than pink and white finger cots although finger cots are more comfortable to wear 🙂
@@wristwatchobsession5585 Thanks $-) If I buy watch from you, I want your fingerprint on the watch
Love it 😂😂😂. Thanks
Very enjoyable and very relaxing. What's your thoughts on plastic parts in the movement?
They are extremely fragile!
But I guess this is how you save some money? Don’t know ☺️
Plastic also doesn’t need any lubricants but seems cheap. Seiko did the same thing.
@@jco1298 that is true J
Hi! great video, I wanted to ask if aftermarket seiko dials and chapter rings would fit a citizen promaster? I want to replace my dial and just hoping for some insight. Thanks!
No it won’t fit unfortunately
Hey, i own a similar ny0080. I removed the bezel a while ago but i never manage to put it back in. I dont know where i could get the proper bezel wire for the case. I got one for a vostok but seems to be extremely difficult to sit in. I got a basic watch crystal press. Any advice?
Very clean job and well done, please where can I purchase the bezel insert please. I am in dire need of two inserts. Please hook me up. Thanks
👏👏👏
Great video! Would love to see a side by side comparison at the end of the video of the beginning and final product to see the difference the restoration has made.
Thought you cleaned the parts? Looks like there is more dirt and fingerprints on reassembly than before.
Very Impressive, Awesome Details
Sapphire Cristal ?
Hello, could you tell me the reference of the crystal gasket please ? Thank you, and very nice video :)
How were you able to remove the bezel? My NY bezel rotates great but I can't seem to remove it to change the insert.
would you be able to do a video on a seiko 6139 or a seiko 7005?
wow..noice!
Tolle Arbeit. Woher bemmst du denn die Ersatzteile?
200 quid service on a 40 quid movement 😁
I saw so much lint AFTER cleaning being put back together with lint still INSIDE "cleaned" watch!
I've just recently bought the fully lumed version of this watch. Unfortunately I noticed that the bezel is very slightly misaligned. I had considered sending it back but is it possible to remove the bezel and reseat it so that it lines up correctly?
Yes it might work but it is pretty difficult to take the bezel off when you don’t have the correct tool for it.
wow
Funny .. Red Dead Restoration did this same model watch last year .. it had the same problem .. broken pivot on the pallet fork. Seems a common problem with this watch.
Where do you buy de bezel insert?
anche io ho questo orologio, tutti gli anni di produzione hanno ingranaggi di plastica?
Question about this same model: mine stopped so I opened it to find that the pallet fork correctly engages the escape wheel but everything else is not moving as soon as I put back the bridge... Any advice?
Hi it can be a lot of things from a Brocken week tooth to a Brocken barrel spring. You have to inspect all the parts under microscope. If nothing is Brocken it should work after cleaning.
Excellent job but that chapter ring was way out of alignment at the end
where did you get the new handset?
May I know where u order the replacement parts? Thank u in advance!
Nice video. One question: Was the pressure-test procedure in the video meant as a joke to see anyone was paying attention? (You're supposed to release the pressure with the watch submerged to check for bubbles..).
The watch was submerged! Don’t understand what you mean. But for sure it was not a joke it was a test.
2 methods. 1 have it in the water and pump the pressure up. If it fills up its leaking (and damaged)
2 you have it above the water, pump up the pressure (if there are any leaks, the air pressure in the watch will go up) then lower it in the water and release the pressure valve. If there was a leak then this will show as bubbles from the effected area as the pressure in the tank becomes normal and the watch equalises with the outside pressure. This way when you find a leak, you can lift it up quick to save the watch.
yeah. the pressure test didn't look right to me either.... he released the pressure with the watch in the air.
My first dive watch from a decent brand with some horological history was a Promaster Dive eco-drive. I’m looking for a Promaster automatic but to find one for sale is nigh impossible.
Not anywhere close to impossible as they are very common and easily accessible and available for sale all the time from many companies and individuals.
But you didn't show be side number how clean?
Where did you find the minute hands?? I cannot find anywhere to replace them.
Ebay
I just noticed that red seconds hand. Could that be aftermarket? That's supposed to be an ISO Certified Diver's watch. Without lume on that seconds hand, it can't be.
buongiorno come si fa a ordinare quadrante e sfere citizen promaser cal 8200a
Hallo,
You left dust all through it.
No. He was in a negative pressure room
Why did you pressure test it with the movement intact?
It doesn’t matter if it is intact or not. What is important is that no water goes inside. You don’t turn off your watch when you go diving or?
@@wristwatchobsession5585 No, but when you pressure test as a repair person, they typically keep the movement out during that step to ensure water resistence works, to protect the movement. If you treat it with a valuable movement inside and it gets wet, it could be trouble for you.
Citizen Vs Seiko: who wins?
top
How in the world do you know how to put that movement back together?!
Trying to Memorize. Taking pictures or watching the film again.
Where do you buy a new bezel?
Ebay
I changed the Movement on my Promaster. The day on the display is slanted, can that correct it? Best regards
Thanks. Really enjoyed that.
You mean can that be corrected?
You mean the day disc is bent and you want to make it straight?
@@wristwatchobsession5585 I have installed the Miyota 8205, how can I correct the day where is inclined?
Roy I don’t exactly understand your problem.
Can you please send me a message and a photo on Instagram?
@@wristwatchobsession5585 ok, Thank you
Interesting vid. My NY0086-86E runs not that accurate, it runs about 13 s/d to fast.
The chapter ring is completely misaligned !
Do you can help restaured my watch?
How much this watch?
Enjoyable video but I can't help but think that you did over $100 of work on a $30 movement thats not even rare.
That's not the point chuckles 🤡
How much cost such a reparations?
For this watch around 100 euros.
This is not very dirty
You are doing wrong the water resistasce test my friend..
Explain why
