Restoration of a Rusty Bruno Söhnle Glashütte Automatic-Watch - Sellita SW-200 Full Service

  • This time i´am restoring an automatic wristwatch. The model is called
"Lagomat" and it´s made by Bruno Söhnle in Glashütte (Germany).
It is powered by an Sellita SW-200 movement, made in La Chaux-de-Fonds
(Switzerland) and modified by Bruno Söhnle. The saphire crystal is
surrounded by a rose gold ion-plated stainless steel bezel. The black
dial with rose gold indices and hands complete the portrait of this
elegant dresswatch priced at approx. 1300 USD.
Unfortunately the watch isn´t running at all, the crown-stem is
broken and there is quite some rust inside this beautiful movement.
The watch and especially the strap is dirty and smells awful.
It seems like some of the rust and dirt has found it´s way to the
dial as well and the hands have tarnished over time.
After disassembling the watch, the movement starts moving again.
But as expected, the movement is in a pretty bad condition and loses
several minutes a day. I need to disassemble the whole movement,
clean all the parts and re-assemble it with some fresh oil.
The crown-stem has broken off flush on the crown. No chance to get
it out by handtools, without damaging the crown itself. After 1 week
in an alum/water-bath the stem has dissolved completely and
a new stem can be mounted.
Dial and hands are cleaned and after some slight polishing of
the case and bezel, the watch can be assembled again. Treat this
watch a new strap and enjoy it on the wrist.
A small downer: The rosegold bezel has some slight signs of wear-off.
Re-Plating the stainless steel bezel is a pretty expensive job,
even more if the color shade should match the original. That´s why
i leave it as it is.
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

I Think what makes these Videos awesome is that it's all About the Artistry.....And not about Self Gratification...How many videos have we watched that is about the Individual and not the work being done ........This Brother doesn't find it necessary to even show his Face.....All About the "CRAFT''.....Well Done Young Man

This person has golden fingers. The precision of the gesture is close to perfection, they are rare people because to refurbish this kind of broken thing is a feat. It's a company with a lot of people who made this watch. While he is alone

I just marvel at how small, intricate and delicate some of the parts of the watch are, and not just that he can remove them, though also that someone made them and fitted it all together in the first place!

Something extremely satisfying about watching you work. Lovely to see such skill and care. Making it like new again instead of conforming to the throw away culture we live in
Also such a wonderful degree of craftsmanship to create the movement to begin with.

Where ever you find these watches please let us know. I would like to stay away from these people. Anyone who treats a watch like that has serious issues. Or did the prior owner loose his life in that tragedy?
But as always you do an awesome job. Hey there us a Chinese watch repairer on here that pulls them out of the dirt, out of the ocean and even rusted solid and even in concrete. He works unrealistic miracles in had fantasy world. He should watch your channel. At least your restorations are real.
    Sir. You do fantastic work!

What up, Red? When I found you last month I commented on how much I like your videos. I especially like no narration. The ASMR thing really works for you. And all your little gimmicks & shticks are a crack up. The Time Machine and those socks are my favorites. So I thought I’d take a look at how many videos you’ve got racked up and noticed you’ve only got 37 over the last 3 years. So I was like, oh hell yes siree Bob, I can go back to the very beginning and watch… pun intended… you from the very start and be up to speed in a couple of days. So I got some ‘watchin’ to do. And, FYI, I’ve watched a bunch of other videos and I’ve got to tell you, I really, really like your style
