- When crime scene investigators collected evidence from the home where four University of Idaho students were brutally murdered, they discovered three male DNA profiles. Bryan Kohberger faces trial for allegedly carrying out the gruesome quadruple killing. Prosecutors say Kohberger’s DNA was on a knife sheath found under one of the victims. Law&Crime’s Angenette Levy and defense attorney Jonna Spilbor discuss what the unidentified DNA could mean at trial in this episode of Crime Fix - a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

Why isn’t there victim DNA anywhere in Bryan’s car, after suddenly fleeing the scene of a stabbing quad homicide?
@@offensiveparlancerealistically, the vehicle was taken in weeks later, after having been cleaned thoroughly. Had they gotten the car 2 days later with no DNA, I’d think that was more pertinent.
Three years to put a murder in prison. This has become a circus.
To be fair he’s already been in jail
Alleged murderer..
In my hometown it takes longer than that. Especially since this case is known worldwide
Actually most murder cases are 3 years to get to trial., its not a circus its pretty standard.
Saw the bodycam footage at the house for just one night and the house was full of people. Imagine months! My only question is why they only found 3 male DNA?
Agreed, there must of been 150 dna samples in there at least!
Because it was found next to the body's in both rooms.
@@rvingkeepitrolling8797 the problem is they’ve lowered the DNA bar to touch / transfer dna …which is so error prone the us military has guidelines to never prosecute using it. Touch DNa in the house would yield probably 1500 samples.
Thats why out of hundreds of DNA swabs; majority were inconclusive.Meaning a single profile couldn’t be determined from them. They claim a couple match to Bk. One source being on the sheath.
did they mean three samples they couldn't (initially) identify?
There’s a really big difference between DNA found on a knife sheath that matches the supposed weapon, vs a spot of DNA on a random surface or doorknob to a surviving roommates door… we know this is a party house, we knows there’s gonna be DNA all over the place.
Exactly right!
I agree. BK’s DNA was on the knife sheath. IGG is not “newish “. Besides, DNA evidence is only part of the picture. There should be someone on this show arguing the opposite position from this defense lawyer.
but iTs ToUCh DnA says the probergers. and he jUsT LiKeS nIGhTDrIves LiKe mE. people are disgusting.
😂
Touch, finger prints, blood, sweat tears it's all relevant!!!
How does a college party house have only 3 profiles of male DNA?
Well you clearly cant hear well. It was 3 UNIDENTIFIED. Not 3 in total. Wake up dude.
UNIDENTIFIED DNA -BIG DIFFERENCE .. WANNA BET MOST OF IT. IS IDENTIFIED SOON
The unknown dna is in bedrooms & glove outside. Everyone's house has dna in it from relatives, friends etc. No different here.
There could be 50 male DNA samples in that party house but only one came off of a knife sheath!!
A body that was stabbed many times, covered in blood, bed covered in blood. The sheath was under Maddie. The DNA found was touch/transfer DNA. The sort of DNA is never used in a current murder case. Blood, saliva, seamen and hair are the standard. Anything is possible but who’s to say the geneoaly process was not accurate. Once the DNA is reviewed by the experts on both sides, we will know more.
@@BostonRoadGlide Who's to say indeed _ But given that 600 cold cases nation-wide have been solved using the very genealogy INVESTIGATIVE TOOL (note the emphasis here) most notably the "Golden State Killer" here in California was traced and tracked-down by different types of DNA left at various types of crime scenes both indoor and outdoor both stabbings and shootings and beatings with clubs resulting in mass arrays of blood flow even after 40 some years!
So there's that - plus he just happened to frequent the neighborhood (at least a dozen times) plus his car on video passing 4 times at the time of the murders!
So go ahead let's talk Kohberger Instead of the mysterious stranger in the bushes that's bound to show up at trial...
right with only one car that matched said dna on sheath with perfectly aligned phone pings to and from the crime scene oh and do not forget, his own admission of driving around all night. lol
@@djohny-ne3gg the phone pings are not perfectly triangulated. There is only two cell towers between Moscow and Pullman. Cast data is best when done in an area with multiple cell towers, and when I say multiple I say dozens. That is how they triangulate a cell phone. It will ping off multiple towers and will pin point your location. With only two cell towers covering a 20 mile radius Bryan could be anywhere in that 20 mile radius. If there was say 5 cell towers in that 20 mile radius then yes they could get a more accurate location. But as of now it is impossible to tell exactly where he was that night judging from the cast data.
It creates what defense lawyers love, Reasonable Doubt.
No. Just a shadow of a doubt.
Not reasonable doubt
Not reasonable at all. They need to explain how his DNA got on the knife sheath if they want reasonable doubt.
Wrong. The prosecution have to explain how it got there. The defence just needs to create reasonable doubt.
@@iansane1928
@@iansane1928that is easily explained away as it's touch DNA. Meaning that Bryan Kohberger could have touched a door handle the murder suspect touched, then his DNA transferred from door handle to the murder suspects gloves. Which then transferred to the sheath. He could also possibly have touched the knife sheath at some point while visiting a friend etc. It is not a smoking gun, but a strong piece of evidence combined with other evidence. But the state would have no case if it was the only evidence they had, and touch DNA is often thrown out due to being unreliable.
Even with the DNA of others inside of the house, how does his DNA get on the knife sheath belonging to the knife that unalived everyone
No one knows what weapon was used. Not a kbar knife. Steve G said wasn’t a knife. The wounds were gouges. It had to be a machete. The kbar sheath is a red herring and no one questions it. How come the autopsy photos weren’t given to defense . The FBI is shady in that town. The FBI is withholding the evidence that would clear BK.
They never found the murder weapon, it’s not proven that’s the sheath for that knife
the sheath most likely belong to the girls. its never proven to relate to the crime
@@Psyche721not to mention we are talking about touch dna and a college town that the prosecution had to be literally forced to be handed over to the defense for discovery, sounds pretty iffy to me

This case is so bizarre
Uuuhh yeah…extremely bizarre. This clown murdered 4 innocent students for no reason other than he idolizes ted bundy and danny rolling.
How do we know they don’t have more evidence? The reason we haven’t heard more is because the trial hasn’t happened yet
Exactly!! I doubt very seriously the prosecution is focusing on DNA alone i'm sure they have way more than we know already....who's to say they don't have some sort of internet connection like geofencing or WIFI or even surveillance, I think that's why Kohbergers attorney needs so much more time because of all the evidence the state has.
Exactly, most of the evidence is under seal. We only know what was in the initial police report and in the probable cause affidavit.
We also haven’t heard more because of the gag order. They did release the items taken from his home during the raid though so there’s definitely more evidence we don’t know about. I’m so ready for the trial!
There's alot more evidence.
They know exactly what they're doing. Just wait til trial. If I Never even heard of this case....He's Creepy AF.
And there’s an evidence suppression order in place to the public.
The rest of the DNA was destroyed with the house That's another interesting thing to think about
Have a problem with him having no wounds, blood in the car, clothes somewhere..His shower? If he did this ,he didn't act alone..Roommate and her actions are sketchy.
The knife sheath doesn't put BK in the house. You have to have more than that. I already have reasonable doubt. I think the surviving roommates should be looked at. I think the fraternity across the way should be looked at. I personally don't think it was BK. I think the University had the PD hurry up and arrest someone. They didn't want to tarnish their reputation as having murderers in a fraternity. Not to mention University of Phoenix just merged with UI giving UI $180 million big ones. They couldn't lose that money.
Totally agree with you
I dont understand how the roommate not a suspect
@@jworme155likely because they were investigated? What a silly statement
I’d definitely have reasonable doubt at this point tbh
Yes! I believe Bryan Kohberger is innocent!! He’s the scapegoat for the crooked law enforcement! No blood in his car or apartment!!
The 2 male unknown DNA samples from the house were relative to the murder scenes- NOT just random DNA on a toilet handle.
While this discovery of unidentified male DNA would seem to raise reasonable doubt about BK's guilt, there is also the very real concern about his sketchy behavior that night. I've always thought his explanation of just driving around because it helped him think (or whatever it was he claimed) was extremely fishy. And his cell phone activity during that time just compounds the fishiness. This isn't the Get Out of Jail Free card it seems to be. In my opinion, there are more inculpatory findings than exculpatory ones.
yeh, if you look at how michelle troconis was found guilty. there were many pieces of circumstancial evidence, which when presented in order, make it impossible to believe that she wasn't guilty of being in on it.
@@SusanaXpeace2u I dare say the vast majority of murder cases are won by carefully amassing the circumstantial evidence. Most murders don't have many eyewitnesses, after all.

There are at least 2 other men involved, & they are known to one of the girls in the house that survived (can't remember which one.) The 2 men did the killings & Bryan was the hired help to clean up. Awesome guest- great job in being fair and even handed which is RARE in the Media nowadays.
Just think how much blood there was, whoever did it had to be practically dripping in it. There would be no way not getting it in any car. But they also would have left blood on door knobs and outside the house. Neither of those things have been mentioned. There is another explanation, the killer was already in the house, in one of the other house mates rooms. And an explanation for it taking hours to call police is, they were cleaning up as best they could. That hasn't even been an expressed thought. There are at least a few other options of scenarios, other than BK. That leaves reasonable doubt.
I don’t think the roommates have anything to do with it. Unless they find a connection with the girl that described how the intruder looked and him. Of course we won’t know until the day of trial.
I do agree that is crazy that not other DNA was found anywhere around the car or his house. Even if you clean your car there will be something left for them to discover.
I think the problem this case has is that people want to know so much about this case like is owe to us when a lot of people forget that is a crime the evidence is not going to be given to us as it needs to be seen by a jury and be present it in trial.
Also another problem I saw from the get go was that it became so known on social media like tiktok that people were blaming others like the teacher that sued that TikTok’s for saying she knew she did it.
I think we need to let evidence talk when the time comes because if they have evidence to keep him in jail they for sure have the evidence to put him away forever
You think two 20 year old girls cleaned up a crime scene so well they fooled crime scene techs and investigators? You don’t think sinks/drains would have been tested? Their own bedrooms? Crime scene techs were seen even in the spare room used for storage. They’d have picked up if the crime scene was cleaned

I don't think Bryan's touch DNA is the only DNA on the knife sheath in question. I know of nothing that does not have multiple people's DNA on it. Imagine a bottle of dishwashing liquid that you have bought. That will have the DNA of people who manufactured it, of those who put the liquid into it, of the quality control people, of those who packaged and shipped it, of those who unpackaged it and put it on some store's shelf, of the customers who handled it but never bought it, and of the cashier who scanned it. Even a product sold in some kind of case or box will have multiple DNAs on it.
Okay but were they near the crime at the time?
@@alyciamarie4163 There is no evidence he was near the crime scene. It is touch DNA, a highly transferable kind of DNA, unlike blood, hair, or saliva. If you shake someone's hand, this guy opens a door, a female touches the same door knob, she then shakes her teacher's hand, who then borrows a book from a library, then returns it, and the librarian puts the book back on the shelf, the librarian will have your DNA (as well as others') on her body.

Well let's see about that.
No evidence has been found , no DNA , no fingerprints , no bloody footprints, nothing left at the scene except a planted knife sheath , and literally zero evidence left that house , no footprints outside in blood , especially the mess inside.
Out of 6 people 2 are left,, the same 2 that heard nothing , and didn't phone the police until hours later.
Why did the find no DNA or fingerprints, because if you live there they expect to find them anyway , why no evidence outside the home ,, because they didn't leave the home. They had hours to do it , clean themselves up , clean up any trace of them in the scene and then make up a story.
The more there is no motive for Brian kohenberg , the flimsy convenient knife sheath which doesn't wash with me is a set up. The police haven't really grilled the two at the scene and now the home is knocked down.
Not sure on the motive , but the whole scene leans more toward an inside job , than a stranger leaving no evidence such as fibres etc.. and no blood being on their person.

The commenters on this channel have a mob mentality. They need to watch 12 Angry Men and learn something about our justice system.
Idc how much DNA there is. The fact that they bring up 3 other male DNA’s, take it seriously! This was a quadruple horrible murder!
How long does it take for DNA test results
especially the dna on the glove outside
I live in San Francisco, no snow. I find single gloves not infrequently outside my house, dropped by people walking by on their way to the bus, or shopping, or whatever. I also find hats, and vape devices, but I don't find a leather knife cover, under a dead body, with other dead bodies around, all stabbed, and it's consistent with the cover of a knife that this person had recently bought online( the DNA is just a cherry on top!!). We don't know what they have or haven't found in the car. This was also an educated guy. Was his car covered in plastic on the inside? Was his seat covered? Was the steering wheel? We do know people saw him cleaning his car. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, sounds like a duck....I'm willing to entertain the idea that the killer is a duck.
it doesn't matter how many dna profiles were at the house. how many were on the alleged weapon?
The weapon has not yet been found…
@@Timetraveler213it doesn't matter there was no accomplice because if there was do you really think the two girls would've survived. Only one was supposed to die that night 🤷🏾♀️ the rest was collateral damage. They would've ran sacked the house and the accomplices would've checked only one made did it and he's in custody right now. His DNA was the only one found on the sheath it's not magic to put the pieces together he's managing to trick the public because he literally studies a degree that would help him get away with this stuff. He knew what he was doing but he made a mistake.
@@Timetraveler213 I know 😭 for me it's the fact that he literally shut his phone off thinking cell phone tower data wouldn't get it. I believe he did it it's just a shame he's managing to put doubt in alot of people
They dont have a weapon, thats the issue.. a sheath is not a murder weapon.
A lot of DNA there from 1 night stands.
Investigators called that house a petri dish of DNA but yet BK had none in his car that could connect him to the scene.
"I often go to sleep and dream of waking up in a world where everything is covered in semen."
They had more than one night stand in that house, they weren’t barbarians
@@offensiveparlance Because he had a month to clean his car before he was caught.
@@offensiveparlance Not true. Kohberger's shown signs of OCD, so I'd expect his car to be spotless. No towels, no trash, nothing...
Also, bleach and other solvents dissipate over time. So no, there wouldn't be any travel of cleaning agents in the car a month later. You're wrong.
We do not know what they got for evidence! We have to wait before we make Judgements!
Depends on what the dna is on, and if the source was a friend or party guest, etc.
If the dna belonged to a friend or known party guest, then they wouldn’t be calling it “unidentified DNA”. And I believe she said one was collected from a glove outside of the house. I don’t know about the other two.
If the glove don't fit you must acquit
Where was the other DNA found, exactly? And the glove found outside,,the one ignored by the investigators? .
The first question, he asked when he was arrested if the other person had been caught, yet, Total was giving himself away
It was false statement someone else said. BK never said that nor was that statement ever confirmed by LE
Sure there were lots of people in & out, BUT...there's only 3 that were found in suspicious areas, not covered by others, and they all happen to be unknown.
Three recent out of place prints that don't belong to anyone on record?
Even if this guy is guilty that means there's the possibility of 3 more murderers still out there that weren't really given much effort in finding.
That shouldn't sit right with anyone regardless of what ya think of this guy.
I have never seen cops and the chief of police of a city, packing up and loading up personal property at a crime scene, and also why lead the rookie cop, be the lead investigator. Everything about this case stinks….
Guess I know why they really don't want to disclose on the family tree genealogy on how they singled one out of this
When you bring her on as a guest it's this whole bs defense theory stuff because she is a defense attorney. But what she fails to discuss is whatever else the prosecution has, not only from DNA, but other evidence, video, fingerprints, purchases, etc etc. It's almost like you're trying to make a murder mystery series rather than a law/crime video
The defense attorneys are the fuckinf worst. They will stare at the sun and try to cinvince you its not yellow.
@@iansane1928 exactly
@@iansane1928well it's the defence attorneys that make sure the prosecution can't just play dirty and that the defendant's constitutional rights are upheld. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty and the defence forces LE and the prosecution to play fair. Without it LE could overstep many peoples constitutional rights without them having the knowledge and expertise to call them out on it
If a case gets dropped on a technicality, it is only LE and or the prosecution to blame. They should have just followed proper procedure.
pretty sure all evidence point to BK being innocent so far
@@Mindy-jz7rc bwahaha, that's funny, kinda like DNA left on a knife sheath next to the bodies
IMO its taking so long because maybe the college is involved, frat houses, and the police dept.
He said he had never been there and didnt know them and his DNA was on the sheath kinda different then random dna outside.
How many male dma samples were found on a knife sheath under one of the victims?
Was there other dna found on a knife sheath under a dead body?
I knew something like this was going to happen.
Yes
Kohberger said when being arrested, "Am I the only one?" Was that his training/education stepping in? There was a semi-witness in the house who heard someone say there was a guy in the house as well as seeing him herself. Several men would have made way more noise and taken care of everyone in the house...just my opinion.
There’s plenty of footage proving that there was many people in the area that night. This case is tremendously weird. Incluiding why the 2 survivors aren’t people of interest to the case. There’s testimony of many people that saw things that night and the police didn’t want to hear them. They take the “weird” guy to construct their case. Sorry, the DNA found by Kohberguer could be also a DNA by transfer too. Increíble they have only 1 suspect.
Jesusthat stanford grad destroyed you. no wonder you turned off your reply's hahahahahaha
I don’t think that guy killed those kids too many iffy sequences
Nah he definitely did it. Why would his DNA be on the knife sheath and his phone ping close to the house at that time of night?
Sounds like this guy was begging to be caught and charged considering he somehow forgot/left the sheath at the crime scene.
Sound like it was planted
Come on already BK, give it up. You are GUILTY! stop dragging this out for the families!!
But if the defence requests the samples to to test wont the prosecution just say they dont have it? Like everything else
He never said he didnt commit the murder...he stood silent...and he will die in jail...and the KNOWN dna is all that matters...unknown is nothing
Defense attorney no one is guilty. You remove anything that touch inside and nothing will be left in the car. Defense attorneys have no soul.
We have to wait for all the evidence, and especially from the defense, to be presented, but it looks like a strong case so far.
If the defense wants to test the dna they could do it. They have all this money to hire experts, mitigators, and pretrial shenanigans; therefore they have the money to find exculpatory evidence. Instead they just complain.
Other DNA at a college party house.... Shocking. Were any of them on a knife sheath, found at the actual murder scene?
Let him out and let the family decide what they are going to do
I agree with you
This said blood on a glove outside, male DNA. Rubber gloves from a crime scene? He thinks he’s very smart so he could’ve planted that intentionally to throw police off him. He didn’t plan on forgetting that knife sheath with his DNA inside at the crime scene I’m sure. That’s what matters the most. Inside at the crime scene.
Okay so how did it get there then?
Where is the DNA under fingernails? His car? His apartment? They admitted there were defensive wounds. You would have more than a sheath if he was there, blood soaked and drove off. Fibers and hair and skin would be connected to anyone who has defensive wounds. And he would absolutely have transferred SOMETHING between four people in his car. Or like you said, a massive clean up, which would be required, would be beyond obvious.
"yeah swab my cheek, whatever"...😯😵💫😷😇😂
Needs to be tested
Literally means nothing due to the fact there is video of his car circling the home that night along with the fact he bought the same knife sheath on Amazon. If it was ONLY DNA evidence, there would be an issue, unfortunately for the defense that is not the case
gods, he bought the sheath on amazon, are you kidding me? thats the first ive heard that, if thats true and this guy gets away im going to be livid
There is no actual proof of either of your claims. Hearsay isn't fact.
@@user-km2mm6en6uIt's rumored, but I wouldn't be surprised if he bought the Kabar from Amazon and the Prosecution has the receipt..
literally everything you stated have been proven false an year ago LOL
@@user-km2mm6en6u There's no proof that what he's stating is untrue either.
Why don’t they also do the genetic on the three unknowns, because if anyone had a child that dshs paid for they always get the dna ..and maybe you’ll find the trail back to the unknowns?
Because they want the public to believe they got the right guy even if they didnt
@@offensiveparlanceThey do have the right guy. Way too many circumstances that happened for it to be anyone but Kohberger. If he's innocent, he's the unluckiest person on the planet.
@@samspade8830Im not convinced.
@@offensiveparlance That's your right to be wrong.
Why does she keep laughing about it
Bryan Kohberger is being framed that sheath was placed and planted at the crime scene by someone else that sheath is too clean there is no blood on the sheath if Bryan Kohberger did it then the dog would bark alerting the 2 survivors that there is a intruder in the house
Of course there's DNA everywhere, it was a party house. But how many different DNA strands were on the knife sheath...
