I dual wield the Uchigatana with the Hoarfrost Stomp (can use on groups and through walls) and the Nagakiba with Unsheathe (having longer reach is nice) both with the cold affinity. So now they both do Physical and Magic damage with Frost and Blood loss passive Effects. With them both ungraded to +14 so far two hits pops cold and three pops blood usually.
I think that everybody is overlooking Warrior jar talisman. Test how much it will increase skill dmg. Seems around 20-25% for me and it works with Moonveil. Very very strong
the imp heads you show all have different stat increases (int, end, faith), and only by 2. i would rather go with either of the glintstone crowns for int in that case

Of all the guides I've seen on this game yours is the best. You not only go into true detail in the build but you also offer other opportunities for builds someone might think of doing like the duel wield tips. You cover all the bases and make it clear. I love it.
As a die hard Souls fan, I love how they've put in a lot of weapons from previous games. The Moonlight blade is basically the Katana that drops from Darkeater Midir. They even have the Whirlygig Saw from Bloodborne..
Same. Feels like they always wanted to add Eastern styles to their games, but had already solidified Dark Souls as a very European style world. Then they experimented with different styles, with Bloodborne feeling very English and Sekiro being VERY Japanese. And now we have this complete world, stood on it's own without having to rely on the Lore of the others, but bringing parts from every game together.

@@storky3846 I am level 100ish using a moonveil + uchigatana build and it is extremely strong, a heavy weapon art attack+ L2 combo kills most enemies outright even late game.
I am starting to play this tonight with my wife, we decided were starting a samurai character first - were pretty overwhelmed as we have never played a souls game - - thanks for the videos

@@GravityDAD it took me a while to "git gud" tried bloodborne first because it was free on ps plus, and I gave up a couple times before I learn how the game works. You really need to level your character everytime you have runes/echoes/souls avaliable, before you lose them. Farm some, get stronger, and learn how to fight and dodge, then the game starts to become easier and very fun to play. Now dying doesn't feel frustrating, every time I die I learn a new Startegy to try next time. Everytime I quited bloodborne something inside of me kept telling me to go back, because its not like anything I played before, and I used to hate playing games in hard mode, but these games make you feel like you're actually achieving something everytime you succeed. If you get the chance give it another shot ;)
im playing co-op with a friend and we both said we would complete the game blind before checking out guides for high tier builds. We took a break for a day or so and when we came back he had all this crazy gear, dude was almost 1 shotting bosses and im like "lol how? im still on the +2 estoc". He swears he found it randomly, every item in this guide is identical to his current build even down to spells. All this time he was desperate to find a Larval Tear and now i know why.... ahaha smile for the camera mate
Just for information: On +10 (maxed out) it´s DEX scaling changes from C to B - unfortunately that upgrade is not so easy to get - but it´s a very nice boost on the high end of the weapon.
This has been the build I’ve been rocking, so fun. Wouldn’t mind seeing the progression for the dual greatswords build as that’s my second favorite class you’ve made :)
@@JohnB-ws4ge spamming the weapon art a lot really destroys bosses since you stagger the heck out of them, I’d say it’s better than average but not super op tbh. I think the black flame build is stronger.
Love these builds, but at the same time, seeing how cool something can be used like this makes me want to suddenly change playstyles. I love this game that it has so much replay value. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time I guess. Anyway can't wait to actually see how the blood build damage will be compared to this. My samurai is a mix of everything at this point and not sure in which direction to push him
can totally relate, did a samurai now im trying double uchikatana, upgraded both +2 did the first boss easily, but im missing the quick draw option a little bit, idk maybe a bow/katana build are best, do you know by any chance how i can wield the katana with both hands or am i just an idiot lmao
@@hoodrich511 in the menu after hitting start you hover over your Pouch and should me able to hit Y or ∆ in order to switch what it there into the whistle.
I'm level 58 with mine and have my Uchi to +13 thinking it would be like the old games and be S tier. I am slightly disappointed with my career choice at the moment.
Thank you for making a stat video that actual shows some numbers you put in. 99% of the videos I’ve watched about stats are just telling me what the stats do, but don’t suggest what kind of distributions might work etc for different builds
Finally been waiting for this for awhile since the last video! I keep checking the channel to see if I miss something with my Moonveil build! Currently at Level 151 with 70 INT.
@@DthScythe01 This build is incredibly overpowered. especially when you reach level 200. Transient Moonlight does almost 2K damage, and that's not even the best part.
The thing about Elden Ring...you can literaly "build" anything you want...not saying it will be "efficient/ good" but you CAN! Thats amazing... you can have this one gimmick/ spell/ skill that you focux on or you can go full average in 3-4 things and still its playable..... this variaty (sorry my english bad) is something I was missing from games the past 10 years... its always Mage = this one spell that kill everything, Warior = this one sword that kill everything, anything other is useless.... but in Elden Ring, I can build any BS i want, be it OP AF or just fun and weak but I have the oportunity to do it.... I drop a tear from my stone cold dead herat just a moment ago.... thank you Fromsoft and thank you Fextralife.
These build videos are very helpful. There are so many weapons and talismans to use. I feel like I just end up using random stuff. Seeing so many ways to use the various unique weapons and abilities really adds to my enjoyment of the game. Keep it up! Also, I vote for dual blood blade next. I started a new character after that video came out as I liked it so much.
I love combining the mooveil with a frost wakizashi. You get the benefit of powerstancing without the weight commitment, plus you can forego a shield if you still want to parry because you can slot an Ash of War to it. Getting frost and bleed off on a tankie boss is a death sentence for them.
Once you're lategame, this idea works very well if you're running an Int/Dex hybrid with a staff, because you can have your staff in one hand, use Adula's Moonblade, then switch into your 2ndary sword and go crazy on the enemy with dual bleed/frost stacking

Loving all the build guide! For someone like me who can't decide what to play, it's helpful to have things like this to have a route of progression. On another note, have you thought about doing something like an arcane-based necromancer build yet? It sounds really cool and it seems the death magic spells all use arcane.
This is the build im playing right now. Is soooo good! Using bastard star's as my secondary weapon and the meteorite staff for spell casting. I feel like I made a good choice out of the gate going this route. This game is so awesome.
@@yeastbread9891 yes its very good. I finished the game with the build. Eventually switched to queen renalas staff. Im loving my bleed build for ng+ even more though. Can't go wrong with that build though. You can basically pump int, dex and vigor. And be doing major damage end game
@@lewis9767 the red-branch short bow scales with DEX. I forgot where exactly you get it but I’ve gotten a few somewhere in Altus Plateau. It works well if you want to shed some weight since it’s almost 1/2 the weight of the Horn Bow

@@dylan-sk8mt I actually learned last night about that, didn’t realize I had to push it up but it’s been going pretty well, was using super upgraded scimitars but jus switched to those dual blood daggers from an invasion, my only issue is it seems restartitis is getting to me and don’t know if I should restart with a different character
@@Goob2003 i’m using bandit curved swords and have blood slash on both weapons, the arcane scaling make it so you do more bleed damage rn they’re both at 100 bleed damage with 50 arcane and +16 weapons

8:10 is what I've been waiting to hear for so long. 100% gonna do a hybrid moonveil/bleed build, with the moonveil and a bleed ashes of war on the uchigatana, or maybe the meteorite katana. Dual wielding all the way babyyyyy!

Gonna need 18 intelligence to use the Meteorite Katana (the first Katana you will find & only one I've found. I'm lvl 60). Faith Samurai sucks due to weapon requirements messing up the build. It is my Main Character unfortunately lol.
You could use some holy or lightning infusion ash of war with that on an uchi and perhaps use the dragon lightning incantations, otherwhise i dont think the playstyle would be too different from this
AFAIK there isn't too much in the way of "deep" synergy for Faith and Katana, however you can always go for a sanctified Whetblade to give faith scaling to a Katana when you give it an ashes of war that you like. Can go for Sacred Blade even without the Whetblade and put faith scaling on a normal Katana. Some options for incantations are Bloodflame or Lightning blade, even Black Flame Blade, all great for using faith and keeping the swordfighting flavor. Lots of good options.
Great video, I started off as a hero class but when I saw the moonveil blade and how good blood build up is I started transitioning to a dual wield build with the moonveil and the meteorite blade. Currently level 70 and been considering going staff/ moonveil instead of duel wielding. This might be the video to push me towards that.
Started as str dex samurai. Respeced to this build at around level 55 and it rocks! Spells much more useful than bow so not gonna miss it. Also goot hybrid sheild (for pescy fast enemies).
I too was using a strength double colossal sword Berserker build it was working okay but I switched to this build he put out today and I'm blowing things away
the antlers (deer boss 2nd i think) is also a pretty good talisman since it gives FP per kill, so not the best on bosses but for exploring the world it's amazing, you kill easy mobs without FP and can spam it on more painful ones

Getting confused with how the moonveil works, since it has INT/DEX/STR scaling at the same time. I am wondering: 1. Does a level up in INT increase the damage of a normal swing? (hitting the enemy with the weapon itself) 2. Does a level up in DEX increase the damage of the ash of war - Transient Moonlight? 3. Does the Talisman "Redagon Icon" reduce the casting speed of Transient Moonlight, just like any other magic spells?
@@TheLaurenssssssexcuse my Bad english but becouse dex and strenght are for physical damage and int and faith are for magic and holy The weapon does physical and magic damage so it scales its damage with dex strenght and int but the weapon Art of this weapon is only magic as far as i know so it only scales with strenght and dex And then you Look at the scalings itself and notice that strenght isnt dooing much on this weapon and nearly only Uses dex instat of strenght

I got my moonveil at +9 it staggers bosses so fast with its special unsheathe ability. Got dex at 45, int 24, mind 19, endurance 20, vigor at 30 and strength at 20

I just started elden ring and just wanted to watch videos of it because I couldn't open it for whatever reason, and seeing videos like this amaze me how cool the build is, but I don't understand a single thing, and when I think I understand how to get something he mentions these "talismans" that seem really rare and hard to get

Awesome information. I made a Flame and Night build and followed Fex’s guide on the game then slowly started moving to a Moonveil build because N&F was honestly pretty boring. I have had so much fun.
Also to be noted : Transient Moonlight verti-slash does its max stagger damage at close range when both the blade and mana wave hit the enemy. Tested it on the carriage trolls previously. At my level close range TM slash takes 1 hit to stagger while long range takes 3 hits. Poke at enemies form mid range only if you feel close range is risky, otherwise use it at close range for max stagger damage to save mana and look more badass.
Great point! I've found for me you don't want to be too close though as I think they won't get hit by the wave. As long as they get hit by both you're good. This is why I also think dual wielding isn't a bad option for this build either. 2 Handing excels at staggering enemies, but you already get that plenty with this weapon's weapon art. Dual wielding on the other hand excels in pure dps and comes in handy in certain situations where you want conserve FP or just go ham. Enemies without shields are especially good with the dual katanas. The bleed you get from both katana's is another factor of it's high DPS. The dodge roll attack and the running attack are just beastly using the dual weilding action (L1). Plus most importantly it's just really fun to do.
Yep - especially for bosses you still want to get close to get the full damage potential. Still a very effective move - you just should not get toooo compfortable with the Range of the magic wave.
This looks great! Been loving the Magus gameplay so far but this seems more in line with what I wanted for a Battlemage character, thanks again for pumping these out! ... Going at such a rate that I'm actually a bit worried about you guys, wow
If you pump a little more strength into this build, stop at 16, you’ll be able to use the Dark Moon sword as well, which only scales with intelligence but requires 16 strength to wield. This way you’re not limiting your character to just a katana, and can use two extremely strong weapons. It’s only 4 more levels anyway and there’s no point in doing another intelligence build just for the Dark Moon when Moonveil build is practically the same.

If you want to talk about “role playing”, a true samurai would never wield a Moonveil, because it’s a honor-less magical sword that would break their code unless all of their opponents were also wielding a Moonveil. Who wants to put over 200 hours into two different INT builds that are only different by 4 point allocations? I guess you do presumably because you’re one of those dudes that sits around all day doing something that is really, really pointless. You’re really gonna make two characters that are the same? Lmao. Moonveil is so good. I was going full magic and was struggling on Melenia but someone suggested this katana as well as a mimic +10 and I got her third try. Now I haven’t taken Moonveil off.

Every time I wish there was more about one particular build, I remember this game has only been out a few days, and they already have so many different builds, reaching up into the 50th levels. The fextra team must be chugging those energy drinks right now.
Me and my buddy did spellblade builds and ended up going in this exact direction same weapon and similar stat spreads. Only real difference is you did it with samurai and we did it with prisoner class. Cool how you can end up going into pretty much any build regardless of starting classes
Moonveil build carried me through my 1st playtrough. Faith samurai with moonveil and Zeus lightning is what I’m working on for 2nd play through. Lvl 100+ needed for effective build though

If u have been to the carian manor there is a Ash of war near the lake there hoarfrost stomp which is broken and works insanely well with dual gs. It cause a lot of damage and applies freeze so u can rush and jump attack with gs and dodge out. The double gs build was getting a little underwhelming for me but that Ash of war made it really fun again
i got a hot take on stats here and im currently level 100, started from prisoner, went carian knight build and evolved into this. i have 30 vig cuz health gud. 21 mind cuz its the cut off point for headless summon and magic gud. but heres were the take gets hot. i have 30 in stam. im rocking moonveil and magic katana, and i have a staff in the right hand and carian shield in the left, so 4 weaps all together, and i have banished knights helm, cleanrot chest, crucible knight arms and raya lucarien grieves (grieves has good stats and keeps the brass look going strong) plus stamina is good and the resistance increase. then from there i have min strength for sword, 30 dex for raw damage and casting speed (hot take) and 40+ int and dumping all points into int moving forward. its pretty cracked right now. i rock all the carian sword spells, the bow spell, glintstone pebble, gravity pull, shield buff and glintstone arc. the build is popping, very greedy on equip load but i feel strong for everything
@Fextralife The Samurai is split in three different directions. Pure DEX with bows. DEX/INT with sorceries and INT scaling katanas/swords. DEX/FAITH with Bloodflame Blade and bleeding katanas.
I prefer Horn Bow over a staff on this build the recipe for Magic Arrows can be found in Raya Lucaria Academy (it's the Glintstone [5] one). You consume less FP for the Heavy Draw and the Damage is huge and it has better range.
Now that I've finally gotten a grasp of how this game works I started a new Samurai character. I remembered the cross naginata. Got stuck in gael tunnel because I kept getting rolled over by mobs.LOL I was level 30 something but I finally figured it out got the cross naginata and ran away to level up some more health points before I get the moonveil but I'm unsure if I want to go that route. Cross naginata is good enough for now I love this thing.
This is what my astrologer turned into. Was gonna do a spell sword but once I got moonveil that ash of war was just too strong not to use constantly. Beat the game with it
Might want to check glintblade phalanx on rogier's rapier. That weapon art is insta stagger too but lower dmg and lower fp cost. It puts the original sorcery into shame
Good build, though my main concern is that between this, the Enchanted Knight, and the Magus builds, the stat spread is ultimately quite similar with really only the playstyle differing. Still good to know the differences between the three. It seems like you can sort of mix and match your favorite aspects of each build to make the Magic Warrior of your choosing. Personally, I kinna wish the Moonveil wasn't so good cause it kind of clashes with the European style of mage knight I was going for, but... if it's good, it good.
It's funny, I was playing the game blind and built an almost similar build with differences in Talismans and a bit more leaning into magic. But the Moonveil weapon art is just amazing
I basically running this build with a few differences, namely the turtle shell shield and cross guard Naginata for defense. The barricade and low investment for the shield with the range of the Naginata allow for effective counterplay as well as a well invested magic Naginata will have excellent split scaling for dex and intelligent to lean into the strengths of the build. Great vid
I'm loving this playstyle! The one frustrating part is that it's pretty inconsistent whether the game decides I get a critical hit or not. Half of the time I stagger someone and instead of getting a critical hit I just swipe them with an R1 attack ☹
I had this problem in the early game, can try to help you. 1- when you get a stagger, disable to lock on target. Every time I try to critical hit an enemy with the lock on I will hit them instead. 2- don't Just press the light attack button, but hold it. Many times the animation for the hit was canceled and transformed in a critical when the game undestand that I don't want to fast combo the enemy. Sorry for the poor grammar, english is a third language for me. Hope it helps you mate

This is sort of where I went with prisoner but then I found myself mostly using moonveil or only casting. It feels like sorceries don't really synergize with a melee playstyle all that well (while requiring heavy stat investment), and just seem demonstrably worse than faith builds for that hybrid gameplay.
Yeah, even as a samurai I was dex/int and didn't really feel like it clicked, went mostly faith now with some str/Dex to hold strong weapons, and just buff myself and hit way harder but still have insane range dmg with incantations. As dex/int it was hard to justify using melee when I can just spam spells to dmg them easier.
Im 60 inteligence and moon blade is better than almost every spell. I use moon blade 80% of the time and then the spells fill in the rest. Its the perfect combo imo
Scholars Armament straight up buffs your weapon with magic damage, you can also buff shields, and Moonveil is an int melee weapon, plus the many melee spells, and dex speeds spell times. How is that not synergy?
Bruh I was stunned when I found this weapon. Magic gets so much love in this game.even blood and holy. So many builds I want to try, but for now I'm enjoying my int/dex build for now.
this is my build currently at 103. i have int 60, vigor and mind 30 dex20 and some endurance. the ability will get you past so many bosses. doing 500-1k dmg depending on your level. you can use the flask bubble and go in with this ability. if you get 2-3 hits off with the skill you can knock dragons/bosses out and get free crits as well. plus the bleed adds up it’s crazy strong worth noting the other katanas can be enhanced with frost/magic as well though and can be used with different weapon arts
With the hat from Rennala and the correct crystal in your flask you are able to reach the requirements for Azure Comet on a budget in this build. This gives int samurai the option to swap from Moonveil combat to Terra Magicus + Azure Comet with infinite FP flask buff. :) Good presentation of the moonveil style here. Glad to see a few talisman i can swap to when I am not able to hyperbeam.
The thing is that most midgame builds aren't very good. I find that they aren't very powerful and they don't offer that much variety in general. This build is still one of the best even after the nerf.
If you start as the samurai you can start the game by dual-wielding 2 uchigatana. Allowing you to use the unique moveset with L1. Were every attack strikes with both weapons. Providing a very strong bleed stacking build. Which is super effective against high health bosses.
I'm at somewhat early-mid game range, and my moonveil is at +5, and often killing enemie before they stagger for crit, making cerulean dagger pointless. I'm not sure if this is good or bad lol.
Curious about the blood blade. Still on the early days of my first playthrough with a quality build, so i can try a lot of stuff. Currently using a blood build myself, with the Bloodhound fang, morning star and the help of those little imp fellows...
I actually like dual wielding a lot because the blood loss build up is way faster and some bosses are resistant to Transient Moonlight's attribute which makes it really hard to do damage with.
As of patch 1.03, the stagger damage from the Moonveil weapon art has been nerfed by quite a lot. Not too sure how viable this build is anymore. I just finished the build today before I found out it got nerfed :(
The long range laser skill doesn't stagger, but if you're closer and the sword itself hits them it will still stagger. Still viable because no other katana has as long of a reach and it still hits hard. The int scaling works well if you're leaving toward the spell blade type build.
@@hasans7370 at the end it says "other weapon balance changes". But it has been confirmed that you can't stagger with the laser that shoots out using Transient Moonlight. You have to hit with the physical sword during the skill move.
@@airsicklowlandr I can't find it confirmed anywhere, but I've been using this weapon on my pure mage for weeks when things get to close and can't chug a pot.. and it never staggers anymore at range. I will have to test out the physical stagger.. but I don't like letting things get that close.. and I also heard that they possibly adjusted the animation to make it slower?
I'm interested in seeing more blood blade and advanced archer. I'm at SL 50 with archer and my +11 shortbow seems to suck so much that I just find myself using rapier + shield with block counters instead.

As a die hard Souls fan, I love how they've put in a lot of weapons from previous games. The Moonlight blade is basically the Katana that drops from Darkeater Midir. They even have the Whirlygig Saw from Bloodborne..
Same. Feels like they always wanted to add Eastern styles to their games, but had already solidified Dark Souls as a very European style world. Then they experimented with different styles, with Bloodborne feeling very English and Sekiro being VERY Japanese. And now we have this complete world, stood on it's own without having to rely on the Lore of the others, but bringing parts from every game together.

@@storky3846 I am level 100ish using a moonveil + uchigatana build and it is extremely strong, a heavy weapon art attack+ L2 combo kills most enemies outright even late game.

@@GravityDAD it took me a while to "git gud" tried bloodborne first because it was free on ps plus, and I gave up a couple times before I learn how the game works. You really need to level your character everytime you have runes/echoes/souls avaliable, before you lose them. Farm some, get stronger, and learn how to fight and dodge, then the game starts to become easier and very fun to play. Now dying doesn't feel frustrating, every time I die I learn a new Startegy to try next time. Everytime I quited bloodborne something inside of me kept telling me to go back, because its not like anything I played before, and I used to hate playing games in hard mode, but these games make you feel like you're actually achieving something everytime you succeed. If you get the chance give it another shot ;)
im playing co-op with a friend and we both said we would complete the game blind before checking out guides for high tier builds. We took a break for a day or so and when we came back he had all this crazy gear, dude was almost 1 shotting bosses and im like "lol how? im still on the +2 estoc". He swears he found it randomly, every item in this guide is identical to his current build even down to spells. All this time he was desperate to find a Larval Tear and now i know why....

Just for information: On +10 (maxed out) it´s DEX scaling changes from C to B - unfortunately that upgrade is not so easy to get - but it´s a very nice boost on the high end of the weapon.
It makes B int scaling just about at +9, I haven't found the fancy +10 stone yet but have ECB scaling - moonveil this is

@@JohnB-ws4ge spamming the weapon art a lot really destroys bosses since you stagger the heck out of them, I’d say it’s better than average but not super op tbh. I think the black flame build is stronger.
Love these builds, but at the same time, seeing how cool something can be used like this makes me want to suddenly change playstyles. I love this game that it has so much replay value. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time I guess. Anyway can't wait to actually see how the blood build damage will be compared to this. My samurai is a mix of everything at this point and not sure in which direction to push him
can totally relate, did a samurai now im trying double uchikatana, upgraded both +2 did the first boss easily, but im missing the quick draw option a little bit, idk maybe a bow/katana build are best, do you know by any chance how i can wield the katana with both hands or am i just an idiot lmao

@@hoodrich511 Triangle + R1 will let you two hand the right hand weapon, while triangle + L1 is for two handing the left weapon

Thank you for making a stat video that actual shows some numbers you put in. 99% of the videos I’ve watched about stats are just telling me what the stats do, but don’t suggest what kind of distributions might work etc for different builds
Finally been waiting for this for awhile since the last video! I keep checking the channel to see if I miss something with my Moonveil build! Currently at Level 151 with 70 INT.

@@DthScythe01 This build is incredibly overpowered. especially when you reach level 200. Transient Moonlight does almost 2K damage, and that's not even the best part.
The thing about Elden Ring...you can literaly "build" anything you want...not saying it will be "efficient/ good" but you CAN!
Thats amazing... you can have this one gimmick/ spell/ skill that you focux on or you can go full average in 3-4 things and still its playable..... this variaty (sorry my english bad) is something I was missing from games the past 10 years... its always Mage = this one spell that kill everything, Warior = this one sword that kill everything, anything other is useless.... but in Elden Ring, I can build any BS i want, be it OP AF or just fun and weak but I have the oportunity to do it....

These build videos are very helpful. There are so many weapons and talismans to use. I feel like I just end up using random stuff. Seeing so many ways to use the various unique weapons and abilities really adds to my enjoyment of the game. Keep it up!
Also, I vote for dual blood blade next. I started a new character after that video came out as I liked it so much.

I love combining the mooveil with a frost wakizashi. You get the benefit of powerstancing without the weight commitment, plus you can forego a shield if you still want to parry because you can slot an Ash of War to it. Getting frost and bleed off on a tankie boss is a death sentence for them.
Once you're lategame, this idea works very well if you're running an Int/Dex hybrid with a staff, because you can have your staff in one hand, use Adula's Moonblade, then switch into your 2ndary sword and go crazy on the enemy with dual bleed/frost stacking
@@Ouroboros542 there are whetblades you can pick up that allows you to set the ash of war independently of the damage type, so you can mix and match

Loving all the build guide! For someone like me who can't decide what to play, it's helpful to have things like this to have a route of progression. On another note, have you thought about doing something like an arcane-based necromancer build yet? It sounds really cool and it seems the death magic spells all use arcane.

This is the build im playing right now. Is soooo good! Using bastard star's as my secondary weapon and the meteorite staff for spell casting. I feel like I made a good choice out of the gate going this route. This game is so awesome.

@@yeastbread9891 yes its very good. I finished the game with the build. Eventually switched to queen renalas staff. Im loving my bleed build for ng+ even more though. Can't go wrong with that build though. You can basically pump int, dex and vigor. And be doing major damage end game

@@lewis9767 the red-branch short bow scales with DEX. I forgot where exactly you get it but I’ve gotten a few somewhere in Altus Plateau. It works well if you want to shed some weight since it’s almost 1/2 the weight of the Horn Bow

@@dylan-sk8mt I actually learned last night about that, didn’t realize I had to push it up but it’s been going pretty well, was using super upgraded scimitars but jus switched to those dual blood daggers from an invasion, my only issue is it seems restartitis is getting to me and don’t know if I should restart with a different character
@@Goob2003 i’m using bandit curved swords and have blood slash on both weapons, the arcane scaling make it so you do more bleed damage rn they’re both at 100 bleed damage with 50 arcane and +16 weapons

Gonna need 18 intelligence to use the Meteorite Katana (the first Katana you will find & only one I've found. I'm lvl 60). Faith Samurai sucks due to weapon requirements messing up the build. It is my Main Character unfortunately lol.

You could use some holy or lightning infusion ash of war with that on an uchi and perhaps use the dragon lightning incantations, otherwhise i dont think the playstyle would be too different from this
AFAIK there isn't too much in the way of "deep" synergy for Faith and Katana, however you can always go for a sanctified Whetblade to give faith scaling to a Katana when you give it an ashes of war that you like. Can go for Sacred Blade even without the Whetblade and put faith scaling on a normal Katana. Some options for incantations are Bloodflame or Lightning blade, even Black Flame Blade, all great for using faith and keeping the swordfighting flavor. Lots of good options.
Great video, I started off as a hero class but when I saw the moonveil blade and how good blood build up is I started transitioning to a dual wield build with the moonveil and the meteorite blade. Currently level 70 and been considering going staff/ moonveil instead of duel wielding. This might be the video to push me towards that.

Started as str dex samurai. Respeced to this build at around level 55 and it rocks! Spells much more useful than bow so not gonna miss it. Also goot hybrid sheild (for pescy fast enemies).

I too was using a strength double colossal sword Berserker build it was working okay but I switched to this build he put out today and I'm blowing things away
Yes! It's fantastic for the early game and basically forces you to get good at dodging, rolling, and timing because you can't crutch with a shield.

the antlers (deer boss 2nd i think) is also a pretty good talisman since it gives FP per kill, so not the best on bosses but for exploring the world it's amazing, you kill easy mobs without FP and can spam it on more painful ones

Getting confused with how the moonveil works, since it has INT/DEX/STR scaling at the same time. I am wondering:
1. Does a level up in INT increase the damage of a normal swing? (hitting the enemy with the weapon itself)
2. Does a level up in DEX increase the damage of the ash of war - Transient Moonlight?
3. Does the Talisman "Redagon Icon" reduce the casting speed of Transient Moonlight, just like any other magic spells?

The weapon does physical and magic damage so it scales its damage with dex strenght and int but the weapon Art of this weapon is only magic as far as i know so it only scales with strenght and dex
And then you Look at the scalings itself and notice that strenght isnt dooing much on this weapon and nearly only Uses dex instat of strenght
I am more of a pure Sorc but Moonveil is hands done AMAZING. The stagger on the weapon art is so good. Staggering most bosses in 2 to 3 hits.,
Been using this build on my character and I love it!! The stagger with the quick draw R2 is insane and really helps with certain enemies and bosses. Thanks so much!

I got my moonveil at +9 it staggers bosses so fast with its special unsheathe ability. Got dex at 45, int 24, mind 19, endurance 20, vigor at 30 and strength at 20

I just started elden ring and just wanted to watch videos of it because I couldn't open it for whatever reason, and seeing videos like this amaze me how cool the build is, but I don't understand a single thing, and when I think I understand how to get something he mentions these "talismans" that seem really rare and hard to get

Awesome information. I made a Flame and Night build and followed Fex’s guide on the game then slowly started moving to a Moonveil build because N&F was honestly pretty boring. I have had so much fun.
Also to be noted :
Transient Moonlight verti-slash does its max stagger damage at close range when both the blade and mana wave hit the enemy.
Tested it on the carriage trolls previously.
At my level close range TM slash takes 1 hit to stagger while long range takes 3 hits.
Poke at enemies form mid range only if you feel close range is risky, otherwise use it at close range for max stagger damage to save mana and look more badass.
Great point! I've found for me you don't want to be too close though as I think they won't get hit by the wave. As long as they get hit by both you're good. This is why I also think dual wielding isn't a bad option for this build either. 2 Handing excels at staggering enemies, but you already get that plenty with this weapon's weapon art. Dual wielding on the other hand excels in pure dps and comes in handy in certain situations where you want conserve FP or just go ham. Enemies without shields are especially good with the dual katanas. The bleed you get from both katana's is another factor of it's high DPS. The dodge roll attack and the running attack are just beastly using the dual weilding action (L1). Plus most importantly it's just really fun to do.
Yep - especially for bosses you still want to get close to get the full damage potential. Still a very effective move - you just should not get toooo compfortable with the Range of the magic wave.

If you pump a little more strength into this build, stop at 16, you’ll be able to use the Dark Moon sword as well, which only scales with intelligence but requires 16 strength to wield. This way you’re not limiting your character to just a katana, and can use two extremely strong weapons. It’s only 4 more levels anyway and there’s no point in doing another intelligence build just for the Dark Moon when Moonveil build is practically the same.
the only sword a true samurai will wield are KATANAs
@@Rkralv Don’t be a cringe lord. If you want to talk about “role playing”, a true samurai would never wield a Moonveil, because it’s a honor-less magical sword that would break their code unless all of their opponents were also wielding a Moonveil.
Who wants to put over 200 hours into two different INT builds that are only different by 4 point allocations? I guess you do presumably because you’re one of those dudes that sits around all day doing something that is really, really pointless. You’re really gonna make two characters that are the same? Lmao. Go ahead I guess, it’s your time. I’ll be enjoying a much more useful character that isn’t limited.
16 Strength also lets you use the Brass Shield, which lets you block incoming attacks while still letting you use Transient Moonlight.

Moonveil is so good. I was going full magic and was struggling on Melenia but someone suggested this katana as well as a mimic +10 and I got her third try. Now I haven’t taken Moonveil off.
Dual wielding moon blade and uchikana with mimic +10 on an int build is just gross. Absolutely melts every single boss.

Every time I wish there was more about one particular build, I remember this game has only been out a few days, and they already have so many different builds, reaching up into the 50th levels.

Me and my buddy did spellblade builds and ended up going in this exact direction same weapon and similar stat spreads. Only real difference is you did it with samurai and we did it with prisoner class. Cool how you can end up going into pretty much any build regardless of starting classes

Use katanas. They hit harder but still fast enough that you get consistent hits.

Moonveil build carried me through my 1st playtrough. Faith samurai with moonveil and Zeus lightning is what I’m working on for 2nd play through. Lvl 100+ needed for effective build though

If u have been to the carian manor there is a Ash of war near the lake there hoarfrost stomp which is broken and works insanely well with dual gs. It cause a lot of damage and applies freeze so u can rush and jump attack with gs and dodge out. The double gs build was getting a little underwhelming for me but that Ash of war made it really fun again

i got a hot take on stats here and im currently level 100, started from prisoner, went carian knight build and evolved into this. i have 30 vig cuz health gud. 21 mind cuz its the cut off point for headless summon and magic gud. but heres were the take gets hot. i have 30 in stam. im rocking moonveil and magic katana, and i have a staff in the right hand and carian shield in the left, so 4 weaps all together, and i have banished knights helm, cleanrot chest, crucible knight arms and raya lucarien grieves (grieves has good stats and keeps the brass look going strong) plus stamina is good and the resistance increase. then from there i have min strength for sword, 30 dex for raw damage and casting speed (hot take) and 40+ int and dumping all points into int moving forward. its pretty cracked right now.
i rock all the carian sword spells, the bow spell, glintstone pebble, gravity pull, shield buff and glintstone arc. the build is popping, very greedy on equip load but i feel strong for everything
@Fextralife The Samurai is split in three different directions.
Pure DEX with bows.
DEX/INT with sorceries and INT scaling katanas/swords.
DEX/FAITH with Bloodflame Blade and bleeding katanas.
I prefer Horn Bow over a staff on this build the recipe for Magic Arrows can be found in Raya Lucaria Academy (it's the Glintstone [5] one). You consume less FP for the Heavy Draw and the Damage is huge and it has better range.
Now that I've finally gotten a grasp of how this game works I started a new Samurai character. I remembered the cross naginata. Got stuck in gael tunnel because I kept getting rolled over by mobs.LOL I was level 30 something but I finally figured it out got the cross naginata and ran away to level up some more health points before I get the moonveil but I'm unsure if I want to go that route. Cross naginata is good enough for now I love this thing.
This is what my astrologer turned into. Was gonna do a spell sword but once I got moonveil that ash of war was just too strong not to use constantly. Beat the game with it

Might want to check glintblade phalanx on rogier's rapier. That weapon art is insta stagger too but lower dmg and lower fp cost. It puts the original sorcery into shame

Good build, though my main concern is that between this, the Enchanted Knight, and the Magus builds, the stat spread is ultimately quite similar with really only the playstyle differing. Still good to know the differences between the three. It seems like you can sort of mix and match your favorite aspects of each build to make the Magic Warrior of your choosing.
Personally, I kinna wish the Moonveil wasn't so good cause it kind of clashes with the European style of mage knight I was going for, but... if it's good, it good.
That's the beauty of this stats distribution. You can easily change a few items and completely change the playstyle in the process.

I basically running this build with a few differences, namely the turtle shell shield and cross guard Naginata for defense. The barricade and low investment for the shield with the range of the Naginata allow for effective counterplay as well as a well invested magic Naginata will have excellent split scaling for dex and intelligent to lean into the strengths of the build. I'm loving this playstyle! The one frustrating part is that it's pretty inconsistent whether the game decides I get a critical hit or not. Half of the time I stagger someone and instead of getting a critical hit I just swipe them with an R1 attack ☹
Yeah that’s starting to get a bit over the top how often that happens
I had this problem in the early game, can try to help you.
1- when you get a stagger, disable to lock on target. Every time I try to critical hit an enemy with the lock on I will hit them instead.
2- don't Just press the light attack button, but hold it. Many times the animation for the hit was canceled and transformed in a critical when the game undestand that I don't want to fast combo the enemy.

This is one of the best builds to start with !!
This is sort of where I went with prisoner but then I found myself mostly using moonveil or only casting. It feels like sorceries don't really synergize with a melee playstyle all that well (while requiring heavy stat investment), and just seem demonstrably worse than faith builds for that hybrid gameplay.
Yeah, even as a samurai I was dex/int and didn't really feel like it clicked, went mostly faith now with some str/Dex to hold strong weapons, and just buff myself and hit way harder but still have insane range dmg with incantations. As dex/int it was hard to justify using melee when I can just spam spells to dmg them easier.
Im 60 inteligence and moon blade is better than almost every spell. I use moon blade 80% of the time and then the spells fill in the rest. Its the perfect combo imo
Scholars Armament straight up buffs your weapon with magic damage, you can also buff shields, and Moonveil is an int melee weapon, plus the many melee spells, and dex speeds spell times. How is that not synergy?
Bruh I was stunned when I found this weapon. Magic gets so much love in this game.even blood and holy. So many builds I want to try, but for now I'm enjoying my int/dex build for now.
this is my build currently at 103. i have int 60, vigor and mind 30 dex20 and some endurance. the ability will get you past so many bosses. doing 500-1k dmg depending on your level. you can use the flask bubble and go in with this ability. if you get 2-3 hits off with the skill you can knock dragons/bosses out and get free crits as well. plus the bleed adds up it’s crazy strong
worth noting the other katanas can be enhanced with frost/magic as well though and can be used with different weapon arts
what class did you start with?
With the hat from Rennala and the correct crystal in your flask you are able to reach the requirements for Azure Comet on a budget in this build.
This gives int samurai the option to swap from Moonveil combat to Terra Magicus + Azure Comet with infinite FP flask buff. :)
Good presentation of the moonveil style here. Glad to see a few talisman i can swap to when I am not able to hyperbeam.

Still a great weapon, tho I just use it mostly as a side arm if enemies get to close
The thing is that most midgame builds aren't very good. I find that they aren't very powerful and they don't offer that much variety in general. This build is still one of the best even after the nerf.

Ive been using the moon veil as my main for awhile now. Such a great op weapon
If you start as the samurai you can start the game by dual-wielding 2 uchigatana. Allowing you to use the unique moveset with L1. Were every attack strikes with both weapons. Providing a very strong bleed stacking build. Which is super effective against high health bosses.
There is still so much to discover in this game it's crazy.
I'm at somewhat early-mid game range, and my moonveil is at +5, and often killing enemie before they stagger for crit, making cerulean dagger pointless. I'm not sure if this is good or bad lol.

Curious about the blood blade. Still on the early days of my first playthrough with a quality build, so i can try a lot of stuff. Currently using a blood build myself, with the Bloodhound fang, morning star and the help of those little imp fellows...
Doing a faith build currently definitely interested in a blood build for a future playthrough

I actually like dual wielding a lot because the blood loss build up is way faster and some bosses are resistant to Transient Moonlight's attribute which makes it really hard to do damage with.
As of patch 1.03, the stagger damage from the Moonveil weapon art has been nerfed by quite a lot. Not too sure how viable this build is anymore.
I just finished the build today before I found out it got nerfed :(
The long range laser skill doesn't stagger, but if you're closer and the sword itself hits them it will still stagger. Still viable because no other katana has as long of a reach and it still hits hard. The int scaling works well if you're leaving toward the spell blade type build.

@@hasans7370 at the end it says "other weapon balance changes". But it has been confirmed that you can't stagger with the laser that shoots out using Transient Moonlight. You have to hit with the physical sword during the skill move.
@@airsicklowlandr I can't find it confirmed anywhere, but I've been using this weapon on my pure mage for weeks when things get to close and can't chug a pot.. and it never staggers anymore at range. I will have to test out the physical stagger.. but I don't like letting things get that close.. and I also heard that they possibly adjusted the animation to make it slower?

I'm interested in seeing more blood blade and advanced archer. I'm at SL 50 with archer and my +11 shortbow seems to suck so much that I just find myself using rapier + shield with block counters instead.
