The tactical advantage bar is extra pooled AP that is not resereved to a specific character.
So at the end there you had an extra 100AP that was unspent.
Couldn't help but notice that your "tactical advantage" was glowing whenever you exceeded your AP for the turn, signaling how much of it you gonna spend after 0 AP is reached. So it's just an extra AP bar for your entire team. I like this concept.
I can't believe Splat is reviewing False Prophet! We're closely following all of the feedback to 'polish' the game
you are working on it?
@@diamend85 Yeah, the whole team is closely following all of the feedback
This looks promising!
Polish the game? Well my mam you need to put more vodka on it 😂...
I well exit now
That's a nice change. I always care more about the games when the devs show their faces on these videos. (not literally show their faces but commenting and interacting on the video I mean)
Wow, this looks like it could become a hit! Definitely wishlisting this one!!! I do hope there's a setting to make the movement grid visible though.
Hello, I'm one of developers :) In False Prophet there is no such a thing like a movement grid :>
@@MSgenro it will be possible to make enemies move in masses?
Yep, working on it :)@@kurrwa
@@MSgenro Hey! You guys are doing a fantastic job!
Like Holy moly I can't wait!
This looks awesome, like something I would like. I'm surprised I haven't seen it before. That's why you're the best, Splatt! Thanks again.
The thing that makes Xcom so good is the big maps. You can go multiple ways every mission.
So far I've not seen xcom like games that do that.
Troubleshooter : Abandoned Children does that.
@@ilovebiscuits7771 Dear Developers, unless you're part of established brand 20 characters per title is more than enough.
Edit: I was wrong about Phoenix Point using small maps. I think @max-ts4wv was right that they were about the same size as XCom. There are many TBS games demos that use small maps. Most likely as a design choice. There are several TBS game demos out right now that use small maps. I think Every Day We Fight is a good example.
Original:
I had hoped that Phoenix Point would have had bigger maps as well. The devs said the smaller maps were implemented because they wanted to keep the battle time down.
I'm with you. I loved the fact that there was so much room to be tactical on XCom. This standard of small maps feels more like the player is running down a corridor like a rail shooter.
Maybe that's why XCom's double move fits in better there. When I play JA3 I find myself calculating the AP even though there are good indicators already. Basically minor player load.
Dang it. Now I'm sad that there isn't XCom3. Curse you Midnight Suns!
Phoenix point? It has wayyy bigger maps than X com
@@Max-ts4wvThanks for correcting me. Fixed that.
Not just snow and bandits... something evil is around too......love the look and feel of this
Looks super cool so far. I like a lot of what’s happening. The tone, the hybrid gameplay of over-world map strategy and combat tactics. Writing seems solid enough.
The game does look really good.
As you say, the aim chance will be polarizing. As a player, I don't want to have to remember if character X has a more accurate weapon than player Y. And that Player Y has more aiming skill than player Z on the same weapon. There is quite a bit of difference between a 60% chance to hit and 80%. (20%. Saved you a comment ;) )
I did like how Phoenix point's aiming system would show a circle with the approximate shot area. I thought it was a good compromise.
The character should have at least a general idea of the chance of of hitting something at a certain range.
I want to play a game, not memorize stats of each character for each range and weapon type.
I just saw what you mean. JA2 was an honest circle. 1.13 fan patch made it percentage of the honest circle.
This game seems like its that same honest circle but ive seen games where the circle means nothing. I wonder if you can target body parts or if they are all aimed centre mass.
It did seem to have a 'tightness' to the shot in the ap cost tick over. I believe that is what the red circle is supposed to represent. Ig it visualizes the act of taking a quick and not well aimed or brace shot to spending a sec to brace and tighten up the shot grouping.
I believe phoenix point had a 'physical' projectile system though. As in the projectiles ACTUALLY travelled in the game space. So it would hit stuff not intended or possible not hit the aimed for enemy or spot. Like og XCom.
Though the aiming seems to actually be better than 100(95)% or pointless to shoot. Like plasma shotgun couldn't hit the same DIRECTION of the broadside of a barn... from feet away, by highly trained 'spec ops' soldiers, and using advanced cybernetics and technology.
Honestly THIS style of 'xcom' tactical strategy game NEEDS to be what is taken instead of the shitty modern xcom nonsense. More interesting and less infuriating. Also not so stupid and nonsensical in how it interacts with terrain. Literally have to just relearn how to take cover as the system was 100% shielded... though even then at times, and wide open. WHY have terrain and objects if you refuse to make it make sense or be vaguely consistent.
For anyone looking for the demo download button, it's on the right-hand side of the Steam page.
you are short of breath after you read the title XD. made my day. Love such your commnet Splat. Thanks for all this formidable review and content you put out !
Huge potential here, love this
Reminds me so much of wasteland 3 I will be watching this one closely. Thanks for this one Splatty
This looks like my jam, thanks splat
Very interesting, wishlisting it. Thanks Splatty!
I wish some games have kind of "moral" system. Like here: bandits lost all but one guy and he still went for it. I'd like to see that one guy give up maybe or try to run.
Change the shotty to a pump or semi-auto, and the Sentry loadout is probably the one you'd want in an actual survival situation. Shotguns are the most versatile guns, and you get a knife. The Scout would probably be second because M4s can switch calibers by swapping uppers and maybe (it depends) magazines. Peacekeeper and Rationer are probably the worst. Revolvers are short-range, limited capacity and slow to load (though they do have some reliability advantages); and AKs use ammo that isn't particularly common in the many countries, including the US.
Splat, your characters intelligence is higher than his strength
Really psyched for this one. Looks good.
Really nice graphics, and interesting gameplay!
The limited AP regeneration can be considered a stamina mechanic. Pieces can save up some energy to go hard for a short time.
I'll give this a go, I like the title of this video, both my favorite games in one place. Thanks Splat for sharing o/
very interested! nice timing on the drop too as the jagged alliance 3 players are at that point where mods vs game updates are buggering up their playthroughs and this indeeeeed looks promising! hopefully the first step into taking a cool frost-punk genre into a well written fleshed out lore ridden title! plus i like the search by house map....really cool....really COLD!
GGs and thanks for the video!
A very interesting combination in a game, I'll wait to see the full game.
Cheers.
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
Initial impression
2:38 - LOVE this loading screen.. cool graphic!!
one for the wish list, definitely need more games like this kind of thing, non-fantasy setting turn-based style games
Man, Frostpunk+Xcom is something I'd never consider being decent if you pitched it as an idea, interesting to see how well it was executed, at least from the video.
Checks safe, finds medicine and a turtleneck.
Yeah this needs some diversified loot lists.
Digging most of the systems and implementation.
Thank you for sharing your game play.
I think the LOS is clear enough, with the reticle icon next to the enemy names.
siiiiiiick..... just downloaded the demo thanks splatt
Damn, that is a lot of enemies for a first fight ! I like it.
I love that voice worked tutorial, it reminds of older games. I wonder if that morale system will lead to anything more in depth.
Funny how we get used to different stuff depending on where we live. Anything over 75F is horrible to me and I regularly ride my bike to work at -10/15F :P
Oh, and game looks cool. Gives me real xcom vibes, definitely watching this one.
This looks really cool
Reminds me of Wasteland 3. Snowy environment and XCOM-like combat.
This combat system looks like a hybrid of jagged alliance and phoenix point. It might actually be exactly what i like. Added the game to wishlist gonna check it out. It Looks really promising.
The quality and care in design of this game is surprising. I will definately note the name of this studio (Spacewalkers) and Wishlist this game.
Yeah, was planning on testing it out tonight.
Hey Splat! I always enjoy your videos and I had a question! Will you be taking a look at Last Train Home?
Looks fire I will pick it up
ThankYou SirSpla77
2 necessary components of turn based games like this. 1: good over watch system. 2: good cover system.
splatty getting excited about dakka will never stop being funny to me XD
EDIT: "there's no talking with these people" and start shooting before even saying hello is a very american thing XD
looks like a gem !!!
I got a very strange feeling about this one... A very great one actually! From this little demo it feels like something Wasteland 3 was supposed to be but never even went near. If they manage to fix all the bugs, polish up and I guess finish the story (didn't actually read current stage of this project but I assume they didn't finish it yet) this could easily become another humongous tactical RPG hit! Kudos to Splatty for uncovering this game for us, if it wasn't for you it would most definitely passed under my radar and it would've been a disaster. :) This game has a potential to become a true gem this year.
yep, i grew up in San Jose, and i remember that snow storm very well.. also the giant earthquake we had at around that time.. Go Quakes
Splattercat is the true prophet! He speaks and developers tremble!
Definitely has that Wasteland 3 vibe. Let's see if this is anywhere close that classic.
The name Marcus is derived from the Latin word for a border or a mark on the ground, so the name was originally intended to suggest that a person named Marcus is someone whom an authority figure can trust to watch over and maintain control of a critical boundary or chokepoint. Moreover, in this game, when the player chooses where to move the character Marcus, then -- like the other characters -- marks and lines appear to show the proposed path. I think that it is funny.
Yeah you right, looks very promising. liked that one a lot.
"Maybe we can negotiate"
"Maybe you could shut the f()ing door. Where were you brought up? In a barn?"
splat makes the ice crack.
I think the combustible attribute of inventory items will have more to do with deciding what to burn in order to keep the fire going and not freeze to death.
For a demo, this look and feel amazing
This demo looks amazing...
WOW! Game is really cool! And combat is really great! Ilike this gradual system. And overworld is great! Sad that demo isn't available for me 0_O
demo download is just a tiny button on the right, where language info and stuff is, instead of the big one over the description :)
@@seeamoebe Thank you, man! I din;t notice it!
Looks pretty good
last train home has more frostpunk / xcom vibes imo you should cover it !
I would watch the hell out of a show called Louieville Samurai!
I really like the look of this game! Thanks for showcasing it, Splat, it's going straight onto the wishlist!
Yup, liking this.
Okay the title alone made me gush
8:04 She simply does not go where the blue outline was. That's a problem for me when a game deals with sightlines.
Part of why i love splat videos is the knowledge gained about random things.
You forgot the dry heave at the colon. It should be 'Interregnum Chronicles >hrk< False Prophets'
Oh dang, looks a lot like XCOM2, and I've been playing (and love-hating) Battle Brothers recently too
Honestly in a multi year off and relationship with it. When I’m in it’s the greatest strategy game ever made, and when I’m burned out it’s broken my heart to the core.
@@funkedup4620 XCOM or BB?
I'm guessing BB, I feel BB has more RNG bullshit overall 🤣
@@lazylonewolf battle brothers for sure. Xcom is a cakewalk compared the BB. Honestly so is xenonauts compared to BB if you play it fair on vanilla. God I love that game. I keep wishing they make a more fantasy version of it.
@@funkedup4620 BB is enjoyable so far, except when things go wrong...
I just wish it had some better permanent progression. XCOM and the like usually have research or something, but there's none for BB except maybe retinue and renown. So all the progression is mainly tied to the brothers, of which can die permanently and why its frustrating if RNGesus decides to be sadistic.
You had me at interrectum..
17:19 .. rad intro
John Carpenter's' THE THING
I Love It
So i'm just takin a minute after exploring some downed airline jet on my way to that house to find the brother, and i gotta say, this game fucking rocks!!!!
The biggest issue with "overwatch" style play is that 6 people will shoot at the person/alien, and the first kills it, then the rest just waste ammo
Pneumonia got me!
Wish we had a fantasy game on these type
Try Wartales, it's basically that (with a bit less inventory management)
well it's full of gunz so Splatty was gunna be in heaven
May give this a look if it gets over to GOG.
I wonder how long it will be in early access for?
Ah the new manga convention of naming.
Looks like
A great game
Perpetual cold would be the worst apocalypse ever! I'd take zombies over a new ice age any day.
Imagine a The Division game played like this.
This is a sequel to a walking simulator by the same company O_O
Wasteland 4 looking good.
kinda funny how "Frostpunk" is what people are seeking when we'll be in "desertpunk" mode by 2040 or sooner XD
Looks great but the voices 😂
Any configurable system options?
Reminds me of The Division before it came out
..if Frostpunk and XCOM came together.. ..
oh, you mean Wasteland 3.
Reminds me of Dead Of Winter boardgame
I am so glad they don't used square grid
The rise/fall intonation @1:01 - 1:06 was very Bernie. lol :) Now I kinda wanna hear a deep fake Sanders doing game reviews
What am I missing here? The link doesn't have a button to download the Demo.
Right-hand side of the Steam page.
@@Rinzler0001 Yeah i found it a short while ago. Every Steam game with a demo I ever saw had it big and green, right where the normal Play/Download button is. Never knew they could camouflage 'em like this lol
@@TheCrimsonRevenger Same. I randomly figured it out on a different demo, lol!
This game feels so much like wasteland. even with the AP mechanic
A lot of people in the comments seem to disagree about what makes X-Com "X-Com", myself included (although it really is a combination of all of these things). For me the thing that makes X-Com fun is the research. Reverse engineering alien technology that you have looted is the best part for me. This game doesn't seem to have any of that. I find simply surviving in a game like this with no advanced technology or weird powers to be extremely boring. I don't get excited at looting a modern day shotgun or a can of beans. This doesn't seem like the game for me. Thanks for covering it though.
Looks like a DEI version of Reverse Collapse
That is some seriously dramatic narration. Definitely a little over the top. Love the look of the gameplay though
Anyone notice this has the same name from a game in 2021, but instead of false prophet it was "Signal"
Yup! You can consider that one something of a prologue to False Prophet.
That's interesting, especially being completely different kinds of gameplay, it's ballsy. :)@@MkfShard
