Hello there, I'm George the game designer behind Carbonflesh.
I would like thank you so much for your time, your effort to research the game more than just playing the demo, and also your precise feedback- which at this stage of development is extremely important!
Greatly appreciated! Also the last minute of the video is by far the best compliment a game dev can wish for his game!
Cheers and again, thank you!
Your game is very weird. Looks awesome!
I will say that the hints of a deeper lore are intriguing. I hope that this is a universe that you won't stop exploring by the time this game is finished.
looks bloody great !
What a breath of fresh air. love the fact you have done something different here.
Something very different - awesome idea, the story telling is great I hope it's more of that during the game. Besides some quality of life things, everything seems amazing.
This is a rare game where I'm 100% on board entirely due to the vibes. It feels like a genuine attempt at Art from the devs, not just content. Thanks, Splat!
Yooooo wait!! This game was made by a Greek videogame related youtuber called Zok (George Zokas). He's been making it for the last 6 to 7 years and he's been on UA-cam for a very long time, even before that. It looks exactly like the type of game that he would enjoy. I'm so glad to see that it's getting recognition outside of Greece!
EDIT: Apparently other people that are involved in the Greek youtube space have worked on the game as well. For example, Levon Avakian and Thanasis Naskaris who did the 3D art
We gaining Brouzouf up in here.
@@amergingiles wtf is a brouzouf lmao
@@elaremalaka_ brouzouf is the name of currency in the game EYE divine cybermancy. It’s a very strange game with a well deserved reputation as a cult classic.
Ahh that's why there are drachmas. Thanks for the info!
@zombiefolklore Oh good to know! I still don't get the reference tho 🤔
Cartomancy is divination using cards (like Tarot reading), which is how you start in the game. And this, this does look interesting! Little details like the eyehole lock spawning in the fridge because you're using The System's food printer to make it, you not flinching when you put it in because your Anubis-headed "friend" has switched your pain receptors off so you don't collapse screaming from your injuries. The constant need to click "AMEN" instead of "OK". The fact that the prison is called a "Temple". I want the book, I want the film, I want the TV series of this Carbonflesh stuff!
(Carbonflesh game dev here)- Thank you so much for the kind words and appreciate your attention to detail! Most players don't notice all the little touches, good eye!
@@Zok This seems like the perfect setting for short stories and/or novels. Is there any written material from this setting? Would be really fun to explore to the stories of other characters in this world, from different strata of society as well as the different sides.
@@Gangdyret Well...Yes and No..
I've written the world building when the script was being worked on, and made sure it felt alive- you can catch glimpses of it in some parts of the game (like the library and contracts), but it was really important for me to create a personal story about the protagonist.
I believe that the setting that can be explored and expanded on (and I would love to do so), but only so if I do justice to Jack's story first.
Thank you so much for the kind words! It really means alot!
@@Zok Really, your work is inspiring. It's got such a wonderful blend of technology, religion and mysticism and the mix is done in such a way as to make it really stand out, even from this short demo, it's super impressive and there is plenty to love about it. I look forward to seeing more. You've earned yourself a subscriber, even though I don't speak a much Greek and I didn't see any subtitles in your videos, you so absolutely deserve the exposure and appreciation. Thank you for sharing these wonderful ideas with the world!
This game is exceptionally 90s sci-fi. In terms of production value/direction it feels like the game equivalent of Hardware (1990 film), all the ingredients for a great game, but not hitting it. Still, I admire it for what it's trying to do. It's eccentric enough to be a cult classic, I'm just not sure it'll quite tick the right boxes.
Bruh this game is tickling the place in my brain where I keep "i have no mouth and i must scream"
I really like almost everything about the aesthetics here; Caleb's bane impression, that bad ass tarot deck. Meter maid your way through the allied mastercomputer, cybernetic acid Anubis, the train control metatron.
felt the same way.. until they busted out another fucking card game. that shit is lame AFUK
Shoutout to the 'Anubis' voice actor, he is surprisingly good.
Agreed! I'm playing My Time at Sandrock and recognized his voice as Miguel! He's got that deep, suave touch.
Sounds like a mix of Patrick Stewart and Morgan Freeman
Forget this game, I want to watch this movie! What an opening..
The dialogue was straight from fanfiction circa 1999. Just about any cliche and trope you can think of. Every line in the opening was either something I've read, or incredibly close.
@@nomindseyeYuup. And it's sick as hell!
That was the most eyerollingly bad dialogue I've heard in my entire life. Like it was put together by a lobotomized chatgpt. So bad it wasn't even funny.
What a wonderful ambiance, in a big part thanks to the voice acting. I will check this one out for sure.
Just watch the big Lebowski yesterday and that reference to the rug at the beginning 😂
That was a great intro to the game. Philosophical while adding plot and setting.
Jeez, finally something new. Love the mashup of different genres.
(Not just another base builder or tower defense with a different texture set but copy paste mechanics.)
The demo of the game was f*cking great, lets support this project.
The story here sounds really fascinating! I don't know why more games aren't willing to push boundaries like in the past, but this game really reminds me of some of the better written games from like the PS2 generation. That writing and style really seems to compliment the game as it stands now. Cyberpunk stories need to hit the sweet spot between futuristic but relatable, and I think this game is doing that really well.
Some of the Tier 1 hacking jobs include solving a murder and rescuing someone's kidnapped daughter. Those are the TIER 1 jobs. How can they possibly have 5 levels of escalation above that?
"20 dollars to the first guy to activate the nuclear launch codes."
What about "Help me fight a lawsuit from Nintendo"?
I m totally adding this to the game, its hilarious!
It is an incremental game so I imagine its going to get crazy. But also yea that means tier 1 should be more mundane for sure
Having played through the demo, I'm not sure I'm digging the game itself. It seems to be a clicker/resource management game.
...
But man the voice acting and the *vibe*.
For people who want to know:
The Demo runs through the timer you see in Splat's video. You have until you reach the temple to [required] hack the train, and [optional] make as much adaptation and drachma as you can for the next stage.
The reason Splat seems to get significantly better mileage out of early clicks is an advantage you buy to increase your passive hacking speed (+10% of the base speed each time). You can also get additional seconds for each click (I got up to 12.5 sec, 5 for a min in my run). After the first stage there's other things you can buy, so maybe it gets more complicated?
I hope so.
I really like the whole look and feel of this game, and it seems like an interesting concept. This goes on my wishlist.
Any game that starts with a Big Lebowski reference instead of Monty Python is a breath of fresh air
I have no idea wtf is happening...ive never wanted a game more.
Casually sitting there and chatting with half a dozen swords sticking through him. Man's got spleen; probably punctured spleen, but spleen none-the-less.
He definitely has some exspleeining to do
Oh the music!, 80's style electronica, reminds me of Tangerine Dream. What a weird game...
This might be the first game where I buy the OST
Oh fuck this feels like some awesome eurojank, thanks for the weird recommendations splat ^^
As sleeping takes by far the longest, tea is very OP.
This game was made by a streamer and there is a Hygene mechanic, yup that checks out. Do you get an achievement if you get 0.1 hygiene, the asmon achievement.
Oh man, they're diving into something very cool aesthetically right here.
I feel like a need a deep dive into the lore of this game. There's so much going on here that we don't even know about. It's weird and interesting. Kudos to the dev for making such a unique game!
This looks really as interesting as you said.
You really need to balance food buffs vs the actual activity.
Keep them coming! :D
Awesome review to a very promising game! Man this looks good. I played it and I honestly can't wait for the full game. I've followed it since dev was announced and it really seems like the devs poured their heart and soul into it.
Let's gooo
11:10 Dude it says in the background (inside the red ring) what the click gives you. On this one it looks like only 1 sec pr click. Classic splat.
I don't think this game is for me but I hope the people it is for find it and it is successful, because they're at least trying something new and interesting.
Well I'm not quite sure what I just watched but any cyberpunk game that you can drink tea in gets a pass.
Reminds me alot of Cultist Simulator! And it looks like more of what I wished CS was, where it missed the oppurtunity to shamelessly lean into its incremental trappings.
That sense of turning a blank canvas into a mechanic laden madmans pinboard is such a fun exploratory part of incremental games and I see that here but in 3D!
If I were getting lobotomised in 5 days unless I do a job, I would not take a 40 minute shower.
I think it's generally bathroom. You spent 30-40 minutes per day in bath room I think he is releasing stuff too😅
@@nicolasangelnah9112 "Press B to Contemplate Sins" :D
Typical gamer!
Indigiestion is a common symtom related to consuming exclusively synth fruit, bags of tea and bottles of water over the course of several hours.
I totally would watch this as a movie
I love the demoscene style!
I loved the demo, thanks for the recommendation!
It felt like a quirky Orb Of Creation to me, but different enough.
It does look intriguing
Wow the intro!! 90s r back!! Ty splat!
This game has a funky 90s vibe. It reminds me of an old school movie. The Lawnmower Man 2.
Through the whole intro I was waiting for a gravely monotone robot voice say “Syndicate”
Intro is amazing
Weird and unique. I dig it! Thanks, Splat!
Looks quite interesting except that my interest in clicking lasted about 3 minutes into cookie clicker.
9:14 Starts at 1.07 am, finishes slightly before 2.24 am, so the 48 min job took 77 min with clicking. What?
Minutes are really long in the future.
Carbonflesh game designer here! You are right! While you hack, your performance goes down so hacks take longer unless you take a break and eat/rest.
I need to communicate this better, thank you for the suggestion!
It's a cute touch how your l33t mercenary hacker went bargain hunting for legitimate keys in order to fulfill the 'crack' request; because he may be a lot of things but he's not a pirate.
Has that euro flair - love what I'm seeing.
Game looks great! Lets go Zok!
9:41 I don't know why but I just burst out laughing 😂
I like that intro with the train and music. I felt like I was young again watching some 80-90's sci fi movie. Also, wish I could hear better but being impaired is horrendous...I barely understand what the voice actors are saying let alone the music and sound effects. Thankfully I can still understand you enough to follow along with what you're thinking or doing.
It's an entire game built on cryochamber's cyberpunk 24/7 music train...
This is cool. Thanks for covering it.
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
"seven entire dollars" 😆
Very very interesting concept!
Should check out this indie autobattler called Hero's Warband
They got Patrick Stewart to do the VA, very impressive
This is fascinating.
Bioforge (1995) vibes!
7:43 - he does not feel pain. Or at least not to the full extent.
Caleb sounds like a guy doing an impression of Morgan Freeman. It's all I can hear.
I heard Jeremy Irons.
Sounded to me like Patrick Stewart
So would mods to this game be... "Altered Carbonflesh" 😆(I'll see myself out...)
Wishlisted 😁
Music reminds me of ShadowRun on genesis.
looks intresting
A game to make E.Y.E. make sense!..
excellent!
is that ki picards voice? i like ki picard
Nice
Is this as far as the demo lets you progress, or just cut off there for video lenght?
Is it me or is Caleb voiced by Peter Serafinowicz?
Umm, is this a movie or a game? 😳😀 Either way I like it.
Thanks a lot for this review. Truly an interesting title. Still wrapping my head around it. Could be one of those games with a good story, but terrible gameplay mechanics.
brutal
Whatever happened to Gladiator Guild Manager I thought there was an update?
Interesting..
The needs system is a bit strange I think. For example, it's a bit weird that drinking water raises your hygiene level. Logically everything you drink or eat should increase the need for hygiene (i.e. going to the loo). Also how can you "level up" activities like sleeping and exercise so they go faster? I get that time is the essential currency of the game and needs to be taken into account, I just think this system is weird (unless I missed some in-game exposition on that).
🖤
Hell yes!
yo
ol boy hasn't even finished watching the video
If only it wasn't a clicker.
Let's see if it's fun with an auto clicker set at my usual 7 CPS.
Noice and woke free.
who takes 30 minutes to shower?
Non Military with lots of time on their hands.
It's easy, just do other things other than getting clean.
People
Normal people
its easy just stand there and disassociate until the water goes cold and snaps you out of it.
Wow, this one was ROUGH. Feel like an attempt of junior art designer to create a game without the basics for what constitutes good gameplay or game design.
this is new to me, i normally only dislike the mecha games genre splat showcase, but this game looks super weird, trashy? ill pass on this one, thx splat ;P
Awful graphics, unreadable font with ugly incorrect shadowing, vomitable color scheme of the interface, immediate turn-off. The main developer of this ... should have his vision checked by a good specialist.
To Splattercat, I'm sorry that some of your videos I don't watch completely, because I've heard that longer watchtimes the algorithm likes and ultra short watchtimes the algotithm sees as "bad video". All this while videos like this are still good and informative and meant to be just picked with one eye and go on.
It's clearly a purposeful choice. Can't say I'm a huge fan of it either, but I respect fully committing to a weird art style. There are already thousands of games with cookie cutter candy graphics. Besides this game looks vanilla compared to Cruelty Squad, that game is like acid fever dream.
@@suakeli I don't require candy shiny graphics, but a readable text in a video game is a must. That chromatic aberration is also something that makes you want to check your own vision.
@@phillgizmo8934 Fair point, maybe they went too far and put unique style over functionality. Especially the Tarot cards are almost impossible to read.
I don't think I have ever seen a game more boring than this.
I dont think i have ever seen a more boring comment than this. I will not elaborate either since you think it’s not needed
@@liandel Elaborate what? F. off, who are you, the developer?
oh maaan... i was all excited- then another goddamn card game.. devs need to end this nonsense. If i wanna play cards ill break out UNO or some shit, i prefer video games over cards for a reason
hey hey! It's not a card game- it starts with a tarot reading to hint a bit about the characters back story, but there are clicker mechanics, so make what you will of it :)
