If you're confused about any titles not being on the list: I am not including any projects I have personal stakes in because that would be a conflict of interest, and I am excluding games that seem to have fairly stalled development. Ideally the titles here will all be playable soon!
>goes to ask >makes sure I am not breaking the rules after seeing rules y no Sanctuary ? ...To explain. It's a spiritual successor to Supreme Commander and Planetary Annihilation.
#GiantGrantEthics I came to the comments because I was shocked that a certain other RTS I'm following didn't make the list, but your decision makes perfect sense. Either way, can't wait for it to come out, and I'm sure we'll see it featured here (with self-interest disclosed, of course) when it arrives!
Hey Granny Manny Shmanny my UA-cam icon allstar and fren from Altalantis. Have you ever heared of Godsworn, its a Warcraft III/ AOE 2 like medival strategy game in development, it looks really good.
Grant, have you ever considered making a video covering Grey Goo? I think it'd make an interesting video, talking about what it did right or wrong although it ultimately flopped.

Hi, this is Team Ranger making Outpost: Infinity Siege. Thank you for the coverage! We've released brand new trailer with more game-play show and the exact launch date. Coming soon on March 26!! Hope you'll enjoy the game!!!
Thank you for the coverage! We plan on releasing some more videos showing off some new features relatively soon, since we've got a bit more of the Factorio-like logistics gameplay locked in, and we just added a prototype for a new dynamic lighting system, which allows the game to have fully 3D lighting and shadowing, despite everything being 2D sprites. Also btw, we are no longer just a 2-man team; we picked up a third developer late last year.
cant wait for the double pump crack that I craved when 2 of my favorite game combined to 1 looking forward your future endeavors and release date on your game devs
Tempest Rising getting Frank Klepacki to do the soundtrack is the smartest thing I can think of if they want to capture that CnC feel. He's the John Williams to Spielberg here. The music for Red Alert 2 is still on my playlist a quarter century later.
I'm just popping in to reinforce that Frostpunk is an absolutely incredible gaming experience and that Frostpunk 2 is definitely my most anticipated game of the year. Something I notice is that a lot of people have games in their library that seemingly exist just to proverbially stress them out for extended periods of time, yet they'll find it enjoyable or even relaxing. Frostpunk is one of my personal favorites because you're just stunlocked in an evil video game Sisyphean loop of "Okay we were struggling, but I think our city is back on tra--" before the game throws the 47th consecutive steel chair at you, and I love every second of it. The City Must Survive.
You're missing the biggest one... Beyond All Reason! It's an open source Total Annihilation / Supreme Commander style RTS in a modern engine that handles way more units and players. 8v8 is the standard match size and I have seen replays of 25 vs 25 players. It has 2 complete factions, at least one more in the works, and in it's current unoptimized state can handle 4000 to 5000 units without lag. It's exactly what it says on the tin: Beyond All Reason
Thanks for the coverage! We're thrilled to see Cataclismo among such incredible games. Also, we're super happy that you enjoyed the demo and our approach to the brick-by-brick building mechanics. Hope you like the full version as well ^^
I didnt know at all this game before this video! Im definetly gonna wishlist it Edit : You made a demo you goats! This is the kind of things that i love to see in the videogames industry. I ll be playing cataclismo this afternoon ❤
Damn, this video aged like milk, a 1/3 didn't come out this year, and 1/2 were a disappointment, only 2 were really good and 1 of them was a remake.Let us hope 2025 will bring us what we crave.
Sanctuary will absolutely be on the list for next year! But the odds that we're going to get out hands on it in 2024 seems very low so I decided to save it.
With regard to the small dev team on DORF, ill say this: one of my favorite games of all time, Starsector, also is an indie game, and has 4 developers. When I got it it was a bit small, had its rough corners but also some really cool concepts. Now? It is an expansive, moddable universe with huge player freedom that feels smooth to play and is my all time favorite game. That took 10 years. So. The small dev team will definitely mean DORF takes time to come into its own, but I hope that it too can become something absolutely amazing
Falling Frontier is another indie Space RTS which for much of it's development cycle was the work of one man. The game has had many delays but the developer was able to secure a sponsor and the game play looks amazing. So many video games suck because the Developers cut corners, make promises that they can't keep and then don't spend enough time perfecting the gameplay and ironing out all the bugs before bringing their game to market. So if you have a game being made by a small number of people who are proud of their creation and aren't bound to some mega corporation then you can actually get a decent game that surpasses all expectations and actually lives up to the hype. True Works of Art can't be rushed and are well worth the wait.
Hi Grant! Commenting again because I am unsure if the last one was eaten by UA-cam. Thanks for featuring Outpost: Infinity Siege, I am a moderator over there on their Discord, so if you want to get some more information on the game I can patch you through to the community manager if you haven't already!
Hi, can you link the discord here? I know I can probably just search it up but it would be more convenient for other comments to join up if they see it here.
The return of RTS games is a fantastic turn of events for those of us who grew up in the late 90s and 00s during the genre's golden age. Am excited to see what titles will see in the coming years.
Yeah, But I want them on a DVD disk. And I want to play them on a computer that is not connected to the Internet. And I want to install them offline. So if I need to log in to Steam to play my game, then I will not pay more, than 10 USD for it. Buying it on Steam is not owning it, as if Steam goes down you can not play it...
u do know u can play games offline on steam right? i understand the whole ownership thing but this is just how the times are now. Steam is not EA or Ubisoft or BS like that. Also there is pretty much no way that steam is going to die entirely as a service, its too big to fail. @@h2835
Bro im born in 2000 and i love rts more than anything there is huge number of players starving for good stratgey and rts but greedy AAA and AA left us for no reason glad to see we are saved by indies and true gamers
@@h2835bro take it easy some you can get it dvd but not all those are very few devs with very low budget dvds cost money so by time maybe and when did steam ever shutdown more than an hour i mean its an hour not the end if the life
The RTS revival is like a nostalgic dream come true. I’m particularly stoked about upcoming titles like Gates of Pyre. It looks like it’s going to bring some fresh dynamics to the genre while honoring the classic elements we love.
Play Age of Empires III: DE and you will be so addicted to it! Amazing Graphics and gameplay and mechanics! Probably the best RTS I've played since forever.
DORF looks awesome, kinda reminds me of Red Alert's mods. Silly, not balanced, tons of fun! Who needs balanced game when you can have more fun with the broken units. Hope we'll see "Kirov" and units that being announced globally when being built xD
Grant when presenting ZeroSpace: I can't talk about other RTS much, since i'm involved with one and we'll be competing. Also Grant: Generously applies (healthy) criticism to upcoming strategy games.
The thing about Stormgates scope is that most of it can be achieved by just not being greedy. The whole custom game part is covered by shipping the dev tools that they use to make the game with the game. Adding a menu to load custom game data created with those dev tools (a custom game launcher) is about half a days work for a developer who is arguing online about how terran is OP at the same time. The scope really isn't that big if they don't have to control every little thing players/modders can do to sell more horse armor.
i have a lot of faith they'll be able to pull it off- because they have in the past. these guys working on stormgate have an amazing track record, and it does them wonders in building good faith for stormgate.
I cant wait to see someone play dorf to see more of the gameplay. As how it looks like now it really gives me red alert 2 vibes just ticked up to 15 on crazy units. I do hope that it feels as good to play as how fun the units look right now in it.
there hasn't been a good RTS since SC2, except beyond all reason which is so niche it makes supcom approachable. at least supcom had a pretty well-made and lengthy campaign for the gamerdads to 10 APM their way through. idiots have been making videos like this one for a decade right here on youtube. "my list of 20 upcoming RTS that are coming up soon totally going to be awesome" and then they all turn out not to release or to be crap. this one is no different, except that it's smart enough not to pretend that RTS are back but that "strategy" (real-time not necessarily included) is, uhhhh, well the games are making him excited to play them! sure, sure. remember GREY GOO? remember ashes of the singularity? spellforce 3? ancestor legacy? starship troopers terran command? that one just came out with massive franchise recognition and it still barely blipped on the radar. also it sucked ass, making even C&C4 look deep, and completely failed to deliver on its aesthetic, by underplaying it instead of hamming it up like they should've. but I digress. the list goes on and on and on and they're all, at best, the definition of "mid", not an original thought or exceptionally executed mechanic to make them noteworthy among them. and all of them are only ever mentioned in lists like this video's pre-release, completely forgotten about as soon as they come out. SupCom released in 2007. It was the last time RTS tried to do something exciting, expanding its scale. Beyond all reason is just supcom but more refined. Starcraft 2 released in 2010, which was the last time a RTS came out that was remotely mainstream. And then they stopped making them. All these shitty newer games just look like games from the year 2000 but worse than the releases back then. Good on the solo developers and other indies for releasing these projects, but as a consumer it's absolute fucking drek and not "looking up" at all.
@@MrCattlehunterFinally a good comment. RTS is so underdeveloped it is criminal. I blame the low IQ of audiences and developers alike. SupCom (1) and SC2 were the last great games in the genre. Beyond All reason had some potential but then they designed the games as a playmobile with hideous zoomer-fortnite-vomit-colours and only 2 (same playing) factions. The only hope is sanctuary: Shattered sun - even though it is just the actual SupCom 2.
@@MrCattlehunter Christ alive, they didn't ham it up enough in Terran Command? wtf are you on about? The game wasn't deep, but it added enough mechanics level-to-level to keep pretty engaging, and they hammed it up so fucking much. How about Diplomacy Is Not An Option? Or is something not being a multi-billion dollar e-sports fuckfest enough to disqualify it from all popularity, despite selling 150-250k copies How about Battlefleet Gothic? Or does that not count because it's not a "real rts", despite selling 750,000 copies Halo Wars 2? Not my cup of tea, but it's had a pretty loyal playerbase for a while They are Billions sold more than 1.5 million copies, or is that not an RTS because it's not multiplayer? Sins of a Solar Empire? Northgard? Honorable mention: Dawn of War: Ultimate Apocalypse Dude, you're either just a massive snob, extremely exclusionary on what an "RTS" is, or genuinely blind. Just because something isn't as popular as SC, doesn't mean it failed, or that it was tiny. RTS' were just fucking massive back in the day, able to launch whole franchises, they've gone from industry shaking behemoths to just another genre.
I left rts for years but Beyond All Reason (BAR) brought me back in 2023, a free sequel to total annihilation and supreme commander from dedicated devs with a working online lobby system. I wanted to recommend it here, because it offers PVE and PVP and I'm in love with the game design and the fact that it's easily playabe and completly free. I like some games listed in the video, but it's a huge relief to see my favorite rts design alive and well and despite beeing around for a while and feeling complete, BAR will get a lot more updates.
Another game I've got my eye on is Industrial Annihilation, an RTS where you also build a Satisfactory level faktory to power your industry, while you play the game and mikro your units (don't think its koming out in 2024 however)
As an avid Satisfactory and C&C fan, this sounds very promising. You also should check out Mindustry, a small indie game with a similar promise: mainly factory and tower defense game with solid RTS mechanics.
With Tempest Rising I think my biggest gripe is the terrible visual design, where every unit just blends in with every other. Your blob of units becomes just that, a blob of units, as opposed to any Starcraft, Warcraft, or C&C game where every unit has its own unique, distinct design and silhouette that can instantly be picked out from a crowd. It also speaks to just how uninteresting most of the units look, they look like an amateur designer's first generic work on a mod for another game, not something that came off the desk of a professional artist.
industrial annihilation looks really neat, it’s basically supreme commander factorio beyond all reason has a fun alpha, it’s very similar to supreme commander as well
IA is more like PA + factorio PA wanted to be more like TA, low key achieved a lot of similarities and feels, but only halfway through. Sup Com is far better spiritual successor to TA than PA or IA. BAR is lowkey TA remake, which is why it feels so similar to Sup Com, as Sup Com was the first de-facto spiritual successor to TA. Also
@@Thadeas Nothing lowkey about BAR, it's so very much alike TA and it's awesome! :D I really need a Supreme Commander 3 (Or spiritual successor) that follows the recipe that Forged Alliance Forever community has now built!
@@PluvioZA In case you hadn't heard of it since the comment, check out Sanctuary Shattered Sun, it might be hitting that Supreme Commander niche pretty damn well.
The future of RTS games looks promising. We're seeing great innovation and creativity in the genre. Even upcoming games like Immortal Gates of Pyre are adding fresh dynamics, making the future of RTS something to look forward to.
Holy! Cataclismo looks like the improved old "Castle story" which had a great concept and was special in it's way, but devs failed to finished it. I'm so hyped to play it! Thx.
Will definitely be keeping an eye on Cataclismo, and i had no idea it existed before this video! I love They are Billions to death and it is legitimately one of my favorite RTSs ever due to the solely PvE aspect, addictive gameplay loop and steampunk aesthetic. If it's anything like it, and holds up just as well? I like forward to sinking just as many hours into this as well! AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR DORF I WANT TO PLAY IT AAAAAA
@@DigitalSunGames Just installed it and plan on trying it soon, and wow I wasn't expecting to get a comment from the devs! Thanks for the encouragement, and definitely looking forward to seeing where you guys take this game!
i love your Age of Mythology video have watched it at least 3 times already loved the game growing up and agree with that video we will have to see how these games go have already had a lot of fun watching Pravus play "Last Train Home" the name made me think it was some sort of Frostpunk mod or expansion, but this game was still very fun to watch
Thanks for the list, I hadn't heard about a few of these and I'm excited for cataclismo! Also heard your commentary on AGDQ It was cool to hear a live cast from ya, good work!
Last Train Home and Cataclismo are 2 games I didn't know I wanted. I have been looking forward to Frostpunk 2 and Homeworld 3 for years now. Also, you gotta Play Homeworld and Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.
I never promote my stuff but since I'm a huge fan Grant what's the harm in a shameless plug... I made a free Dune2/C&C inspired tiny RTS called Eudora a few years back and have been working on a major sequel but it's on the backburner r/n. Very interested in Tempest Rising obviously no matter how creatively bankrupt it may seem on the surface (guilty of doing this myself) it's like they know exactly what we want. As an aside I'm often mystified that Petroglyph keeps making RTS games as well, they're going to be releasing a sequel to 8-Bit armies soon which should have been an honorable mention on this list! Also DORF looks astounding, like KKND and RA2 smashed together!
DORF looks so. freekin. AWESOME. Super glad to have watched this and have something rts I'm actually excited about. (okay AOM remade is also exciting, but I long for that feel C&C gave)
2:31 that's all you had to say, i will try that game out now. My personal issue with RTS is how hard it is for a casual player to get into the game, you star and there are just so many numbers and things happening at the same time that it's easy to just get lost. Starcraft campaign have a bit of that but it's way more tame compared to some games on this list tho, still, i'm curious to see and try some of those games. I will get Frostpunk 2 because i loved the first one, even if the second game seems to add way more numbers tho, and i might try the DORF one, who knows, it might be nice.
Actually... It's not true. MOBA games requires a lot, a lot more knowledge to get you going and you can end up with needing to know 9 new units after first game, and then again similar experience... And yet genre became quite popular. RTS was most popular genre on PC for a while and while obviously nowadays it's not even close to that status it says enough about hard hard is to get into a genre that was the most popular one. Which means, it's not that hard at all.
I will say, if you ever do a Command & Conquer retrospective, I have some stories to tell about tiberian sun lan parties. Me & friends did it for years, having spam fights, overbuilt base defenses and territories, recoveries, stalemates, turtling to victory, etc. Tiberian Sun wasn't very competitive, and it was so unbalanced that it self-corrects in a war of attrition, but man, TibSun was so much fun. Even the standalone mod Twisted Insurrection was equally fun. Under the right mindset, friendships can be put to the test with that game.
Heya, i have a friend that had the opportunity of playing 2 of the closed betas for Outpost Infinity Siege, the devs said multiple times the main gameplay loop will be solo and it was confirmed in the tests, when you are exploring and gathering ressources, you are by yourself. However, you can call friends on the final extraction day where the big base defence phase happen during wich the most ressources you decide to take, the more difficult and long that defence will be so a little help is always appreciated. Let me be clear, this is an FPS Tower defense game with extraction shooter elements that also combines RTS, Mech piloting, base building and some roguelike elements (when your character die, if it's not the main character that litteraly has a plot armor bc of story, they are permanently lost and so is the equipement you had and the ressources you gathered in that expedition). Truly my most anticipated game for 2024 and i'm so glad the devs are beeing both ambitious and yet still responsive to the testers reports when it comes to the gameplay loop. I won't say anything else because.... you know.... NDA but i strongly believe i'm gonna be spending hours on this game when it's out.
Im not sure if your aware but if you want another full on '' weve drank their blood and DNA '' game like DORF, Dying Breed might be up your alley, except instead of RA 2 this one leans more towards Tiberium 1
Ah, yes, Frostpunk... among other games this one gave me the most anxiety. Not because it's a bad game or anything, I was not prepared and too immersed I just could't handle the pressure of choosing between the lives of a group of sick children or my hunters T.T
Very nice video, lots of folks don't really have the experience to put in a list like this but yours is a lot better. I don't care about homeworld and some of the other semi rts games but most of your list was very well put together and reaches out to true rts fans.
Out of curiosity, have you heard of the game "Battle For Wesnoth"? its a free open source game on steam, and it has a similar style of gameplay to fire emblem or advance wars.
This is a neat list. It's cool to see so much variety in visuals and gameplay. I'm also struck by how many strategy games are being made by tiny teams. Manor Lords just came out on early access and that was made by one guy too.
Stormgate (aka SC2 reskin) third faction is almost certainly gonna be some sort of hyper-advanced alien race, possibly w/ a focus on psychic abilities.... cuz you know, protoss. Or maybe they will be angels... cuz also, protoss.
I totally agree with your top pick, I can't wait for DORF and I am so glad they decided to ignore multiplayer balance or Esports, which I feel are the bane of developers everywhere, as they gimp the rest of the game in order to try to reach that fabled Esport Nirvana, and simply end up destroying their product and work as a result. I don't want perfectly balanced units that make everything in a multiplayer matchup with guys with 600 APM viable ! I want giant, overpowered super units, flying tanks, guns the size of skyscrappers ! Give me the rule of cool damn it ! Also, interestingly enough, with DORF and Industrial Annihilation, there seems to be some interest in automation game and RTS hybrids, and I'm wondering what you think about that ? Because personally I absolutely LOVE the concept.
For Outpost Infinity Siege, it reminds me a little bit of the Savage: Battle for Newerth premise. Savage had two teams fighting each other, with a player from each time playing as the RTS Commander, and the rest as units. What a concept! I kinda wish Silverback were still trying to hone that, instead of going all-in on Heroes of Newerth.
@@sekh765 Yeah, me too. I'm rarely getting "cautiously optimistic" these days (I assume, often incorrectly, that most projects will be crap), but this one I really want to be good. It's being made by like one or two people, so while they have clarity of vision, I'm afraid of the amount of manpower required. We'll see.
Also, DORF is being made in the OpenRA engine, which is an indie open-source project that was used to recreate and re-balance the first 3 big westwood rts titles that us 90 kids remember: C&C Tib Dawn, Red Alert 1, and Dune 2000. An engine that already has been the foundation for several really cool fan projects, and adore for its nostalgia power, but it's ability to represent and play in a modern way. DORF is literally build on the backs of C&C fans.
Grant you should play Deserts of Kharak, it plays like the main series Homeworld games but with modern RTS quality of life features, its a great introduction to series. The campaign isn't too long so its not a big time commitment. Also it has the best sound design on any RTS I have ever played.
Looking forward to Frostpunk 2 for sure. Played the first one a lot this winter, all bundled up as the snow fell outside. Some of the most immersed I’ve ever felt in a game.
Yeah... about that. At release dimon has said that there will only be the empire (black and red industrial faction in trailers) that is available to play. He isin't against the idea of being able to play other factions, but it would be a lot of additional work apparently.
I have to thank you man DORF flew under my radar and it looks like a kick of nostalgia from the good old ra2 days. (Already had the rest on wishlist or in last train home owned lol)
I wasn't previously interested in D.O.R.F but actually you have convinced me, I'm looking forward to seeing more of it now. Age of Mythology retold, Stormgate and Tempest Rising look amazing!
Stormgate looks like starcraft from wish to be honest. I know that frost giant studios was created by former blizzard employees, but it looks like they are just trying to relive their former glory days and it's kinda sad.
Heres the answer to why rts is dying half of those "rts" games are horde defense or tower defense , And if its not it has aoe3 or starcraft2 graphics. Our only hope is homeworld 3
Because it's a very niche tactics game posing as a strategy one (like Wargame, Warno and World in conflict, for example) Also, because it has a very small fanbase, but they are very vocal about the range, and produce a lot of content for it, giving the impression that it is more successful than what it really is. (I'm not saying it's bad or whatever, only that is not well-known yet)
Although I disagree with the order, especially the number one, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I grew with RTS, from WC1 to 3, a bit of starcraft, plenty of AoE and AoM, even LOTR:TBFME, then I became an addict to the custom maps of Frozen Throne, which I assume we all RTS fans did, at least a little bit... It's been years since I found a new RTS that seemed to catch my interest, and this video has at least a coupe of them. I thank you for real, and let's hope most of these titles don't disapoint.
Cool thing about Homeworld is that it uses 3 dimensions. You can command your fast ships to go under enemy capital ship to attack its weak point. It's really cool that they double down on use of environment. It was in the original game but not to core mechanic extent.
My only problem with Frostpunk 2 is that the world is so cool, I would have loved another style of game to experience it in. I'm not big on survival crafters, but I would drop all my money to play as a group of Scouts or Hunters. Or something in Tesla City before it falls. Or a stealth game creeping about the remains of a city while outsiders try to occupy it and loot it for parts. Regardless, I'm a massive fan of 11bit pushing their world forward. They weren't interested in a new coat of paint and pumping out the same thing, these are guys who have so much love and passion for this series, and respect for the fans. They've got my money as soon as they enable preorders.
It's funny you mention Battlezone. God playing that on the family CPU as a kid, one of my fav game memories and experiences. Looking forward to Outpost to capture that magic.
I like the strategic implications of recovering scrap metal from battlefields. It gives another value to battles outside the area of fortified bases.
When I heard the first report that Frostpunk 2 would come up, I wasn't too hyped about it. I thought the first title worked super well as a self-contained experience. But I absolutely love the focus of part 2. Going from the small to the big makes so much sense. It's not just a "the same but slightly different" like for example Subnautica Below Zero, but a true "sequel" that so far seems to have a great combination of carrying over with the lore, style and atmosphere while going for just the right evolution for its gameplay.
Thank you for this superb video! I'm going to put a lot of them on my wishlist! I've also heard about Crown Wars, by the way, it looks great, it's set in the medieval period, it should be out soon I think.
great video Grant and with that, I shall watch the age of mythology video again because for some reason, listening to your videos while trying to sleep is like a cheat-code for me getting easy, good sleep, some people have thunderstorms before bed, some listen to music but I listen to Grant :^) (make more Starcraft 2 challenge videos I can only relisten to them so many times)
Age of Mythology has to be one of the best RTS games made....and i was so excited to hear the AoM: Retold announcment. The fact you mentioned this made my heart jump
A game concept I've recently been interested in but never seen realised is an RTS where you design you own unit pre-sets in a space engineers style, with PCU being similar to supply, complete with having your own miners or harvesters and even scraping ships to fuel the economy, while you build up your own custom designed fleet. Biggest problem I would anticipate is the resource intensity to run it and actually being able to control the ships effectively while still having the design be important to the outcome. Just a curious and not at all thought through idea
Would love to see more videos like your Age of Myth one! It was so good and got an instant follow from me. Maybe cover some other classics like AoE II, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, or Battle for Middle Earth :)
If you're confused about any titles not being on the list: I am not including any projects I have personal stakes in because that would be a conflict of interest, and I am excluding games that seem to have fairly stalled development. Ideally the titles here will all be playable soon!
I mean, I still see AoM there

...To explain. It's a spiritual successor to Supreme Commander and Planetary Annihilation.

Thank you for the coverage! Tempest Rising getting Frank Klepacki to do the soundtrack is the smartest thing I can think of if they want to capture that CnC feel. He's the John Williams to Spielberg here. The music for Red Alert 2 is still on my playlist a quarter century later.
Might have to port the music into dorf as well

I just recently got into Frostpunk after sleeping on it for years. And i loved it ever since.
also your videos are great.
nice to see you here
is frostpunk an RTS? it's a city builder isn't it
Nice to see you back Mr. Funface
@@frozenfeet4534 It's pretty much a pausable RTS, as if you want to win, you need to be smart and strategic
It's exactly what it says on the tin:
Beyond All Reason
This!
This is the game you think of, when you say RTS!
Thank you for bringing BAR up!
Hope GGG will pick up on us :D
@BeyondAllReason its a matter of time
omg just looked it up is looks way too amazing to be real XD
Thanks for the coverage! We're thrilled to see Cataclismo among such incredible games. Also, we're super happy that you enjoyed the demo and our approach to the brick-by-brick building mechanics. Hope you like the full version as well ^^

Your game looks fantastic. I think it might patch a Castle Story shaped hole in my heart.
love your game!
Damn, this video aged like milk, a 1/3 didn't come out this year, and 1/2 were a disappointment, only 2 were really good and 1 of them was a remake.Let us hope 2025 will bring us what we crave.
I think we should include Sanctuary: Shattered Sun. Spiritual successor to Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander
Sanctuary sadly will not be coming out this year.
Sanctuary will absolutely be on the list for next year! But the odds that we're going to get out hands on it in 2024 seems very low so I decided to save it.
Completely agree on this. It’s the game I’m most looking forward to besides Zerospace
@@bill_the_butcher Or go download Beyond All Reason and play a current day Total Annihilation right now.
@@bill_the_butcher We already had one actual successor and it wasn't great. I'm keeping my expectation low for IA until it comes out.
@@iRradiantRayne Hi Rayne, sadly I can't link to it due to comment restrictions, but you'll find the link on the steam store page!
8:44 Battlezone was freaking great! I wish there were more games like it.

Yeah, it's just the original Starcraft model but for a new era.
i have a lot of faith they'll be able to pull it off- because they have in the past. these guys working on stormgate have an amazing track record, and it does them wonders in building good faith for stormgate.
Great video Giant, the last train home can be very good, after updates for fps and bugs. Finally something about history of my country.
I cant wait to see someone play dorf to see more of the gameplay. As how it looks like now it really gives me red alert 2 vibes just ticked up to 15 on crazy units.
I do hope that it feels as good to play as how fun the units look right now in it.
I'm honestly looking forward to the future of RTS as far as I can see things are looking up
Homies got the smite jorm card art
there hasn't been a good RTS since SC2, except beyond all reason which is so niche it makes supcom approachable. at least supcom had a pretty well-made and lengthy campaign for the gamerdads to 10 APM their way through.
idiots have been making videos like this one for a decade right here on youtube.
@@MrCattlehunter Age of empires 4 dude, that is litteraly in the top 3 rtses of all time.
Or is something not being a multi-billion dollar e-sports fuckfest enough to disqualify it from all popularity, despite selling 150-250k copies
How about Battlefleet Gothic? Or does that not count because it's not a "real rts", despite selling 750,000 copies
Halo Wars 2? Not my cup of tea, but it's had a pretty loyal playerbase for a while
They are Billions sold more than 1.5 million copies, or is that not an RTS because it's not multiplayer?
Sins of a Solar Empire?
Northgard?
Honorable mention: Dawn of War: Ultimate Apocalypse
Dude, you're either just a massive snob, extremely exclusionary on what an "RTS" is, or genuinely blind.
Thank you ♥!
It also speaks to just how uninteresting most of the units look, they look like an amateur designer's first generic work on a mod for another game, not something that came off the desk of a professional artist.
industrial annihilation looks really neat, it’s basically supreme commander factorio
beyond all reason has a fun alpha, it’s very similar to supreme commander as well
IA is more like PA + factorio
PA wanted to be more like TA, low key achieved a lot of similarities and feels, but only halfway through.

Am i the only RTS fan that is not hyped for stormgate?
Same. It's too cartoony.
A lot of what makes RTS hard to get into is stuff that translates well from one game to another. More RTS games means more people understanding RTS
@@andrzejnadgirl2029 i didn't say RTS was the most difficult thing to start, i said it was hard for a casual like me to start, that's all
I will say, if you ever do a Command & Conquer retrospective, I have some stories to tell about tiberian sun lan parties.
Awesome! Didn't even know about the Last Train Home.
And I was born in Czechoslovakia. :D
Just putting it out there that I'd happily watch you play Homeworld. Either as an hour+ main channel thing or as a archive series.
How is Homeworld Semi RTS?
SOASE 2 looking super slick , I'm very excited .
I have high hopes for yet another game: Falling Frontier. Looks incredible and very complex. Although I don't know if we can expect it in 2024
Really hoping Falling Frontier meets expectation, cause damn it looks nice.
We'll see.
Me too
Can’t wait for Frostpunk 2 most likely coming early this year but this is just my assumption as the last game came out in April
Grant continues to be a real one for videos like these. I for one am looking forwards to the RTS revival!
Love love love deserts.
Everyone's gangsta until the sands start dooting.
Looking forward to Frostpunk 2 for sure. Played the first one a lot this winter, all bundled up as the snow fell outside. Some of the most immersed I’ve ever felt in a game.
I'm now looking forward to Dust Front well do to if I can play as the huge worms and stuff like that.
I think that was a goal stated... Somewhere?
Yeah... about that. At release dimon has said that there will only be the empire (black and red industrial faction in trailers) that is available to play. He isin't against the idea of being able to play other factions, but it would be a lot of additional work apparently.
Great, very excited about Frostpunk's politics. Really loved the "Is iT wOrTH iT?“ at the end of the first one.
Frostpunk is one of the best RTS games I've ever played. Super excited for 2.
Last Train Home I purchased two weeks ago but hadn't time to play yet.
Heres the answer to why rts is dying half of those "rts" games are horde defense or tower defense ,
And if its not it has aoe3 or starcraft2 graphics.
Our only hope is homeworld 3
It was a pleasant surprise to hear your voice during the SC speedrun at AGDQ this year =D
How is Broken Arrow not on this list??
Because Warno is better
Because it's a very niche tactics game posing as a strategy one (like Wargame, Warno and World in conflict, for example)
Also, because it has a very small fanbase, but they are very vocal about the range, and produce a lot of content for it, giving the impression that it is more successful than what it really is.
(I'm not saying it's bad or whatever, only that is not well-known yet)
@matchlockashigaru9755 In my opinion wargame is better.
I thank you for real, and let's hope most of these titles don't disapoint.
all I see is a bunch of unfinished crap , and games that look like lesser versions of games made 20 yrs ago
this tbh
Cool thing about Homeworld is that it uses 3 dimensions. You can command your fast ships to go under enemy capital ship to attack its weak point.
It's really cool that they double down on use of environment. It was in the original game but not to core mechanic extent.
Having huge wrecks was planned for HW1, but the tech didn't allow for it at the time. Some concept art can still be seen in the credits.
Sadly RTS game are a dead categories hard to attract new player base .
THIS looks so damn cool. I’ve been itching for a new rts. Also the fact that AOM is coming back..
I'm excited for tempest rising too! Only thing I can complain about is the unit cap, I despise those with a passion.
Not a single title lacking. What a good time to be an RTS fan. A lot of great games to come, I'm really hyped about them
I've been really into Silica recently and wondered why it wasn't in this list since it's growing in popularity despite it's early access status.
@@Mr_Buckets thank you for the recommendation! There were a lot of great games on the list, maybe for part 2? One man can dream
@@BattlewarPenguin no prob! Right.. It might not fit "the rules" tho and it's still very early access. Idk
Falling Frontier, can't believe you missed this one
Got delayed to 2025 probably :/
It's funny you mention Battlezone. God playing that on the family CPU as a kid, one of my fav game memories and experiences. Looking forward to Outpost to capture that magic.
DORF looks absolutely batshit and amazing, hadn’t come come across that at all. Thanks!
Wow, so many games I didn't know existed and I am now absolutely hyped for their release!
I will add Fata Deum and Manor Lords to the list. this 2 looks pretty amazing.
It's not just a "the same but slightly different" like for example Subnautica Below Zero, but a true "sequel" that so far seems to have a great combination of carrying over with the lore, style and atmosphere while going for just the right evolution for its gameplay.
man.....was kinda sad to see supreme commander forged alliance wasnt mentioned.....but with this video ive learned of sum new strategy games!
Might want to take a look at Falling Frontier. Although its release date is somewhere in 2025.
Age of Mythology has to be one of the best RTS games made....and i was so excited to hear the AoM: Retold announcment. The fact you mentioned this made my heart jump
Me: *looking @ thumbnail*
Also me: man that robot in the upper right looking like an ADVENT MEC
Ahh frostpunk. The game that asked the question "What if a city builder had boss music?". So good.
Great vid!
What funny to me is that the 2 spiritual successors of C&C in the list both feature giant hamster balls of doom. Hahaha!
Amazing timestamps in the description.. legit made me subscribe. 😂
In my head your Voice is now forever connected to Age of Mythology. And I am not complaining
Glad I stumbled upon your channel, enjoyed the watch & subscribed! Thank you UA-cam
Rule of cool! Heck yeah! DORF looks awesome thanks for putting it on my radar
Would love to see more videos like your Age of Myth one! It was so good and got an instant follow from me. Maybe cover some other classics like AoE II, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, or Battle for Middle Earth :)
Dwarf looks like the most unhinged mad max type vehicles and I love it
oh you just reminded me the name of the game from my childhood that i had forgotten "Battlezone 2" Thank you
