    I live in Atlanta as well Ron. I hear what you’re saying about sun and water as far as Bermuda and Bermuda grass growing. The local sod provider sales Bermuda sod they swear is shade tolerant. Is there a hybrid version of Bermuda seed you feel like I might put down that follows their claims? What is happening in the neighborhood is that some of the smaller trees have gotten larger, spots in the Bermuda are starting to show

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Briwash4. That's pretty cool that you're starting over on your lawn from scratch. There are a lot of choices for Bermuda grass. The easiest way to get your lawn established is to use sod. This is going to require the least amount of work and will get the lawn looking good sooner than any other method.
      If you're going the seed route, I would choose one type and stick with it. So if you decide that you're going with Arden 15, I would stick to that grass seed on the lawn. It's already an excellent choice for Bermuda so if you're able to grow it from scratch, there'd be little reason to mix anything else with it. It does take A LOT of water to establish though. You literally have to keep your lawn moist for 3 weeks. This is going to mean watering 3 times per day. Just something to consider. Thanks for watching the content.

    • @briwash4
      @briwash4 3 роки тому +1

      @@RonHenry this is the issue, me and my wife are not on the same page. I believe we should establish with a regular seed, tifway 419 or something, then when its established we overseed with the hybrid for a few years. She wants to throw the arden15 at the yard and just go for broke. We are in the Lawrenceville area, we have red clay monster pit of a yard. I dont want to waste $500 on a bag of seed that might not take. We are at odds right now!! I know the sod would be easier but Im not willing to put a couple of grand into this either. I believe my yard is 7500sq ft

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +1

      @@briwash4 Here's the thing, $500 is just entry price tag. You're looking at very expensive water bill as part of the establishment process. Sod is literally several orders of magnitude easier to pull off than seed. It takes a lot of water. Bermuda will grow in pretty much anything but it wouldn't hurt to have a decent layer of soil before you throw a lot of seed and water at the project. Just so you know, Tifway 419 can look absolutely GORGEOUS if take care of. Alex's lawn is Tifway and looks great. Just something to consider.

    How soon after killing my common bermuda off can I reseed? Not sure if the chemical would delay or stop my seed from germinating.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Lincoln. If you glyphosate your lawn, I'd give it 3 weeks before seeding. By then the existing grass should be dead. In some cases you'll have to do another application to really knock the existing Bermuda back before seeding.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +1

      @@tjohnson1673 Heya Tim. Assuming they're getting enough sunlight, the thin areas will thicken up over time. Zoysia is just a very slow growing grass so depending on how big we're talking, it could be an entire growing season. You could try plugging the areas to accelerate the process. That would ensure no color differences as the spot fills in.

      Hi American Cutie. Bermuda loves heat. So as long as soil temps are above 65 degrees and you're able to keep it hydrated, it should germinate. Watering is super important. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks for watching the content.

    What's the point of having a hybrid if you are just going to overseed it with common? You should never have to overseed bermuda, npk+micros+ correct ph = beautiful lawn.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +2

      Reason why I did it Bryan is because I had sod replaced in a few areas and it never matched properly. If I had to do it all over, I would probably have plugged the areas instead of having new sod installed. Overseeding was a way of getting more even color throughout the entire lawn. It's been a lot of work but I like how it looks now. You'll note I spent the first half of the video explaining why it's not easy or an especially great idea. 😂 Thanks for watching sir.
