Good video, I've been taking care of my yard for over 35 years, and all of your statements were right on. I would also recommend against relying on Scott's Bonus s Weed and Feeed. It doesn't work and it's expensive. Years ago it did, but they keep weakening the fertilizer and weakening the weed killer. And so you have to use twice as much but not all at once or it'll kill the grass
This is my second year taking care of my lawn. I was not comfortable even trying the liquid products before, but I think I'm ready to try them this season. I've gained quite a bit of confidence in the last 2 years. Great community. Great video Ron.
That’s awesome GirLzLawn. Incorporating liquid products into your program definitely gives you more options when it comes to getting the most out of your lawn. Once you get used to measuring and your walking pace, it’s not too bad. Let me know if I can help with anything.

It's a great product Sunny. It provides good value for money. There are better products out there (Prodamine and Dimension) but they're far, far more expensive. Spectracide gets the job done at a reasonable price.

Thanks sir! It's so cool that you on the other side of the world you guys are using similar grasses. Do you access to the same products that we have in the US? (Milorganite, etc) or are there Australian alternatives that are more common?
Very informative video for a DIY like me. I the flow of your message so I can take notes. Thanks for also letting us know where to get the products from. You provided the pros and cons of using these products so as to minimize lawn or turf damage. Excellent !! Great job. God bless !!!

Ron your videos are super informative. I'm in Georgia with about 9ksqft of Bermuda. About a month ago, I treat my completely dormant Bermuda with Prodamine and Image. Used a sprayer, followed your recommendations. ** Now , the thing is, there was Poa already hanging out in my lawn...so I'm sure the Prodamine soaked in but that stubborn grown tall PoAnna, just "ate it" ( ate that Image-I feel like, smh)** So last week I cut my lawn to down about 1 inch. I have thatch issues too, but that's another story ( smh)...I "Chopped them Po-Heads, right off!" But, guess what - they're back....waving Hi to me every time I step outside. I've read that Negate is a good herbicide for Po. I purchased the 1.5 oz bottle. I mixed it following the instructions from the manufacturer (Poored entire bottle into gallon of water for base. And I am set to mix 3 ounces of that per gallon per 1k..Cool) Now, my grass is still in dormant mode on many sections, except for Po-- he's fully grown and alive. There are some green bermuda patches here and there n my lawn... My question, should I wait until after full green up before hitting Po with that heavy Negate spot treatment and just keep on cutting lawn down to 1" every week? Or should I just hit the Po now even in this transition, spring up?
Hi Art. I would wait until the lawn is greened up before applying the Negate. Be sure to also use a surfactant with it for best results. If you apply it now, you're likely to slow green up. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
@@RonHenry ok thank you. I will let you know. And do you think that I am ok with cutting down and bagging my bermuda ( with the pesky PoAnna) to that 1" mark, weekly, until green up?
@@willznc I think mowing at 1" is a good idea Art. You might be able to get away with weekly now, but once summer heat arrives you'll likely need to increase that to twice per week.
Another great video Ron. Your recommendations regarding selective and non-selective herbicides are great. I see some of the questions and responses you're getting are specific to different geographical areas. Perhaps helpful to recommend to the audience to contact their local ag extension office for help in identifying proper timing of when to apply specific products. I've found the local Master Gardeners on staff are very helpful and can also make product recommendations for my area.
Great point Blake. Quite often the recommendations are on the product labels but I can definitely see how local knowledge would help you make more effective herbicide applications. Thanks for pointing it out.
The granular with pre-emergent in it? I'd wait 4 months for the best possible result Kevin. You can try before then, but don't be surprised if you don't get great germination.
Thank you for this video! Sorry if you already answered this but when do you suggest using the hand weeding tool? Would that just be for weeds in flower beds that are too close to the plants to be sprayed?
No problem at all. Glad you found it useful.I recently released a new one discussing a liquid Spectracide product in case you're interested in other options: ua-cam.com/video/nzkpNlsKIro/v-deo.html Thanks again for watching.
Depends on which one you're referring to. The liquid, yes as long as you wait a 2 - 3 weeks before overseeding. The granular, "No" because it contains pre-emergent.
This is great!! I just moved into a fixer upper and just recently tilled my lawn and re-seeded it and all the grass is growing but so are the weeds and its nowhere near long enough to mow the lawn yet, I wanted a way to kill the weeds endnote kill the grass thank you.
So happy that you found it useful Owens Home. What you experienced is pretty common. Bare soil mixed with sunlight is great for growing grass but unfortunately also great for weeds. You can spot treat them while you wait for the lawn to get fully established. I'd go light on any herbicides until you're confident the grass is in great shape. Let me know if I can help with anything else. I also have a recent video covering another herbicide option: ua-cam.com/video/nzkpNlsKIro/v-deo.html Appreciate you watching sir.
Hey Ron, I am not suggesting it for others, however I have used roundup on the tougher grassy weeds while my Bermuda was dormant. It did not harm my grass at all. The areas it was used in green up fine with the rest of my lawn. I will do the same this winter to see if I had a false positive. Awesome video by the way.
I'm glad you had a good experience with Roundup Maurice. Do you remember which one you used? I suppose if you're very, very, careful you could use it on weeds within your lawn. I've just seen too many situations where people didn't have the experience you did. Glad you're getting good results man. Anything to keep those weeds at bay! 😎👍
Ron Henry it was the grass and weed kill. I tried while the grass was growing one year and was completely upset all year long. However this pass winter, I used it while everything was completely brown except poa and other grassy weeds. I killed it all before bringing my grass out of dormancy. Like I said I just hope I have as good of a result next year👍
I think we should all be aware of what roundup is and how it flows through our environment, effecting our children, animals, water and food supply. Their are other ways to kill weeds naturally without killing ourselves.

Hey Ron, first I want to say great channel!! Perfect information for lawn care rookies like myself! I have a question, I planted blackjack bermuda seed late March, its coming in decent but I have a lot of weeds. What is your opinion on getting rid of weeds in the lawn for new grass? Will it damage immature bermuda?
Heya Julian. Given that you've recently made the investment in planting new Bermuda, I'd do my best to keep herbicides off the turf. Once the new grass is fully established, you can use Spectracide but until then, I'd just weed manually. I know it's a huge pain, but it's the safest option for the turf. It's what I did for my lawn when I overseeded. Assuming you don't already have one, grab one of those weeding tools from your local Home Depot or on Amazon: amzn.to/3fdeCqG Thanks so much for the kind words about the channel. Thank you Ron for a very informative video! I wished I would've watched this before applying Spectracide weed stop granules. The bag itself does not instruct recommended temperatures for when to apply and I applied it when it was 99 degrees Fahrenheit. O'well, I guess I have to wait for result to see if I have to re spread on better temperatures.

I’ve always had a yard to be proud of until purchasing a pre owned home in central Texas. My lawn is St Augustine with some Bermuda. The lawn is more with Dallisgrass than actual grass. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please help!
Hi kkdor6. Unfortunately, there's not really a selective herbicide that will kill Dallisgrass that's labeled for use on residential lawns. Your best bet is to physically remove it by digging it out. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your reply. There is so much it would be impossible to dig up. Would killing the entire lawn with a product like roundup then laying new sod work?

Hi Mgz_ Once you kill the weeds, just start mowing your lawn regularly. That will get rid of the dead weeds and also stimulate new growth in the grass. Hi Ron. I laid down a couple bags of spectracide Recently in my lawn to help with a crabgrass problem. The bag mentioned not being able to lay grass seed for 10 weeks. How soon have you tried to plant grass seed after using Spectracide. Your videos are really helpful. Thanks a lot!
Heya Ryan. I would really wait the 10 weeks on the grass seed. Depending on which type of grass seed you're putting down it probably represents several hundred dollars. If you spread it before the 10 weeks is up, you'll likely get some germination but not as good as if you'd waited. If you want to still give it a go, I'd recommend doing a really good aeration of the lawn prior to spreading the seed. This will damage the pre-emergent barrier making it less effective against preventing germination. Does that make sense?
That does make sense. I bought some Arden 15 seeds that I hoped to plant this year but I think 10 weeks probably takes me completely out of season for growing new grass. Is there anything that you recommend that I can do in the meantime that might be helpful for growing new grass using seed next year?
Hi Ryan, I'd work on getting the soil as healthy as possible. So do a soil test assuming you haven't as yet and make the amendments to get the soil into primo shape. www.mysoiltesting.com/shop?aff=11 Again, you *can* overseed this year but I'd be sure to aerate heavily before doing so in order to make the pre emergent less effective. 👍😎

I am having a hard time putting all the pieces together. My new home basically has a weed lawn. After this step, I hand pull weeds, right? Then in general, what do I do? Lay fertilizer then lay grass seed? What should the time line look like? I am in Lexington, KY and my front gets full sun in the afternoons.
I would read this Satin. It gives good options depending on your grass type. golfcourselawn.store/blogs/diy-lawn-care/best-products-for-killing-weeds-without-killing-grass You shouldn't have to pull the weeds after they're already dead.
I appreciate the link. Now I finally think I have found a window of rain then no rain starting tomorrow, but as I read the instructions on the labeling for Spectracide, it says to not sow seed for 10 weeks after (sheesh!). It also says that this could be used the 3rd mowing after sowing seeds. I am positive that nothing but weeds exists on this lawn. So should I put seed down first then use this or should I go ahead and spread it and wait 10 weeks?
Hi Ron. This is the second video that I'm watching. I gave a thumbs up and hit the subscribe button from the first video. Great content and love the delivery. I'm in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the weeds were out in force this year. I like the information you provided and for full on lawn care and tackling the weeds, I'm going to try the third product you recommended. I'll see if I can get it from Home Depot first and if not, then Amazon. I was thinking to apply it in the spring; which the time they recommend putting down fertilizer. We do have fertilizer that is laid in the fall so to nourish the lawn through the winter and then early spring we fertilize again. So, what do you think? Thanks again and take care.
Hi Stacey. You should hopefully be able to find the products shown at your local Home Depot. They're fairly common. Something else you may want to consider is pre-emergent. It's a special herbicide that's applied twice per year (spring and fall) that prevents the weeds from germinating in the first place. I have a video here that talks about different options and how to use it. ua-cam.com/video/p1sazlEXAXc/v-deo.html Hope this helps. Really appreciate you watching. Thanks for watching the support.
Ok Ron I’m sorry if you read my other comment and you have perhaps commented on it. I am binge watching your videos and I may have answered my own questions on “Do you have a video on weeds and what you use?” I’m happy to see that it’s products that I can go down to Home Depot and pickup if I want to without waiting for it from Amazon. I think I will just leave this as a comment and not a question because the next video may have my answers. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and I’m going to do my best to follow it so my turf can look as pretty as my flowers and shrubs. New sub indeed!!!!
Ron, Are you for virtual hire? Love your videos and could use some advice. I’m in Long Island/N.Y. and my landscaper put seed down earlier this year and I basically have a patchy/bald lawn with more weeds than grass. Thanks, Dan
Great video, Ron. Quick question: I noticed that Spectracide Weedstop has a concentrated liquid formula as well as a hose sprayer version. Are these acceptable alternatives like the granular version, or do they have the same downsides as the liquid agents you discuss?
Hi Arie. Yes, the liquid concentrates work well while not having to apply to wet grass like the granular. If getting rid of existing weeds is your main goal, I'd go with liquid vs granular. An alternative to Spectracide that's professional strength is this product: golfcourselawn.store/products/broadleaf-weed-control-triad-select-3-way-herbicide Hope this helps.
Hi Ron, There are so many products being discussed, not sure where to begin. We live in Florida, we have floritam grass, overall looks good, however, I'm noticing clover and crabgrass in many areas, what do I start with to kill the unwanted weeds and what do I maintain it with to keep it healthy and weeds out. Thank you.
Hi Bryan. I don’t believe it’s for sale in Texas. Are you trying to use it as a pre-emergent or to kill existing weeds? If existing weeds, which ones? Once I know what you’re trying to do, I can give you some other options.
Great info! My yard is 80% weeds there’s some grass on the right side of my lawn so I have a lot of work. But how should I get rid of my weeds and then replant seeds?
Thanks for this informational video! It is appreciated! Btw. Beautiful lawn!! P.S. I have an huge area on my driveway in the backyard that has been taken over by all different types of weeds (even those prickly ones) after the tree next door at a rental until has been cut down last year. This year the weeds have spread almost the entire width and I am about to use a weed puller and dig them up completely. I was gonna use a weed killer that last up to a year, but I don't want birds and squirrels to become sick and die from coming in contact with the area, so I was thinking of going the homemade vinegar and soap method and then pin down a heavy duty landscape weed barrier to hopefully help keep them from regrowing. Any tips at how to kill these off permanently? Or do you think because the tree stump is still there, the weeds will just continue to return every season?
Great video. We just moved to Kentucky, and i have two acres plus. I just got a pull behind spreader 150 pounds. I am going to start this process. Any recommendations?
Great video, Ron! I’ve recently used Image on my lawn as I’m just getting a good Bermuda lawn established. I’ve noticed some discoloration as you noted in the video. I’m curious how long this discoloration will last? Is this something I can mitigate with proper fertilization? Thanks. Take care!
Heya Bailey. It will last about 1 week assuming that your turf is healthy. I hate that particular side effect of Image but the product really does work great against nutsedge. The big thing is to not over apply the product. Literally all you need is one pass over the nutsedge. No need to soak the area. Using a liquid fertilizer will probably help the lawn recover a bit faster. Granular takes longer to break down so by the time it starts working your turf will like have recovered anyways. A good liquid option is this: amzn.to/2WRaPrI It's very similar to Brandt Supreme Green product I apply in this video: ua-cam.com/video/uedc-v-lnbY/v-deo.html Let me know if I can help with anything else! 😎👍

Keep these awesome videos coming, love how you present the info in an easy to understand straight forward manner. Even my wife finds it interesting. Keep it up!!!
Thanks so much putman201.I'm glad that you and the Mrs are finding the content useful and entertaining. There's nothing like seeing the benefits of your hard work. Glad that your lawn is doing well. Appreciate you watching the content. 😎👍
Appreciate you chiming in Kathy. Thanks for the feedback.

Ron your videos are super informative. I'm in Georgia with about 9ksqft of Bermuda. About a month ago, I treat my completely dormant Bermuda with Prodamine and Image. Used a sprayer, followed your recommendations. ** Now , the thing is, there was Poa already hanging out in my lawn...so I'm sure the Prodamine soaked in but that stubborn grown tall PoAnna, just "ate it" ( ate that Image-I feel like, smh)**
So last week I cut my lawn to down about 1 inch.
And I am set to mix 3 ounces of that per gallon per 1k..Cool)
Now, my grass is still in dormant mode on many sections, except for Po-- he's fully grown and alive.

First time watching your video so , so helpful. Thank you much. I have a Zoyisa lawn and it's very much picky.

Love the video! How soon can you put down grass seed after applying Weed Stop?
The granular with pre-emergent in it? I'd wait 4 months for the best possible result Kevin. You can try before then, but don't be surprised if you don't get great germination.
Thank you for this video! Sorry if you already answered this but when do you suggest using the hand weeding tool? Would that just be for weeds in flower beds that are too close to the plants to be sprayed?
Yep. If you have a small number of weeds or if they're growing near plants you don't want to risk injurin with herbicides.
Thanks for the quick reply! I really appreciate your videos and I’ve subscribed 😊
@SarahThacker anytime! Happy to help
Great video btw. Very very informative.
No problem at all. Glad you found it useful.I recently released a new one discussing a liquid Spectracide product in case you're interested in other options: ua-cam.com/video/nzkpNlsKIro/v-deo.html Thanks again for watching.
Can I over seed and use this product?
Depends on which one you're referring to. The liquid, yes as long as you wait a 2 - 3 weeks before overseeding. The granular, "No" because it contains pre-emergent.
@RonHenry Thanks for the response. I have roundup weed killer. It says safe on lawns on the bottle.

Hi Lauren. Unfortunately, I can't tell you have to grow clover. It's tough to pick the weeds you grow in your lawn. The issue you'll run into is any herbicide that will be effective against the other weeds is likely to also harm clover too. I appreciate you watching. Let me know if I can help with anything.

Just found your channel today and so glad I did! Keep up the great work!
Awesome! Thank you!

Hi Ron,
There are so many products being discussed, not sure where to begin. We live in Florida, we have floritam grass, overall looks good, however, I'm noticing clover and crabgrass in many areas, what do I start with to kill the unwanted weeds and what do I maintain it with to keep it healthy and weeds out. Thank you.
What a great thorough video. Thanks Ron
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Ron I can’t find granular spectracide anywhere including Amazon, and it seems like it’s not sold dry in Texas. Is the liquid version the same?
Hi Bryan. I don’t believe it’s for sale in Texas. Are you trying to use it as a pre-emergent or to kill existing weeds? If existing weeds, which ones? Once I know what you’re trying to do, I can give you some other options.
Following, I have a variety of weeds and need HELP!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. We just moved to Kentucky, and i have two acres plus. I just got a pull behind spreader 150 pounds. I am going to start this process. Any recommendations?
Depends on which weeds you're trying to control. I wouldn't use big box store products to treat 2 acres. Wouldn't be cost effective.
@RonHenry ok thanks dandelion and clover mostly
@@jasonbrown5376 This should work for those: golfcourselawn.store/products/broadleaf-weed-control-triad-select-3-way-herbicide

This was good information. I have been not been able to getting any product(s) because I did not know what works. So many information! What's the best product to use...well, why not go with those who treat grass in golf course😅. Their grass is ALWAYS perfect!!!! Hopefully soon I'll purchase same specticide product at home depot.
We live in a area where it's very nice but grass is just horrible! What's the use of having a very good house but sh.itty grass and nasty weeds growing.
My extra type weed/plant..whatever it's called have those tiny thorns everywhere. No matter where you touch it it's going to pock you 😂. Mostly during winter they grow
For even more potent herbicides that will do a great job cleaning up the weeds in your lawn, check this out: golfcourselawn.store/blogs/diy-lawn-care/best-products-for-killing-weeds-without-killing-grass
Is Spectracide weed stop for lawns plus crabgrass preventer granules safe for Centipede and St Augustine grass
No. I would use the liquid product. It’s the purple bottle. This one: www.spectracide.com/Products/Weed-And-Grass-Killers/Lawn-Weed-Killers/Spectracide-Weed-Stop-For-Lawns-For-St-Augustine-Centipede-Lawns-Concentrate-Ready-to-Spray.aspx
Wow …. Classic….Excellent video!!!!!
Appreciate it Rico! Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching.
Hello I'm in East TN and have a yard FULL of weeds. I'd like to try the spectricide but does it work when your lawn is mostly weeds or do I need to do something else first? Can I start this treatment in the spring or only the fall?
Yep. It works when your lawn is mostly weeds. Just be sure to read the label to ensure the version of spectracide you're using is safe for your grass type.
Thanks Ron, new viewer, love your channel. Lots of great information to help people like me, you’re the best.
I appreciate it Tom. Thanks so much for watching.
What do you use on the grass behind you?
Hi F165. Mainly just pre-emergent in the spring and fall with frequent mowing. Prodiamine ron-henry.com/pre-emergent For post emergent, you can use Celcius on warm season grass if you want something stronger than what's listed in this video. ron-henry.com/celcius Hope this helps.
@@RonHenry Thank you. I bought my first house one year ago and I want a pretty lawn with the work done by me.
Thanks for the great video. I went out and bought the Spectracide and just applied it today.
That's awesome Amadeo. Hope you get a great result with it.
Should I apply to freshly cut grass or before cutting?
I would apply after mowing and then don’t mow for 2 days after application.
Great Video. My husband and I are going to try the last one you showed. Thanks for the advice
Sounds good Juliana. Let me know if I can help with anything else. 👍😎
Thanks for the lawn help. Just what I needed to know.
Glad it was useful M. Thanks for watching the content.
Does the Spectacide work on St. Augustine grass? If not, do you have any recommendations?
Yes it does: golfcourselawn.store/products/specticle-flo-pre-emergent-herbicide
Will the granules work… Or is the spray better? Would think the granules are more economical? And thanks for your help.
Thank you for the video...
Very welcome! Thanks for watching.
