I like the karma idea for valentine. Although the gang's trouble started in Blackwater, it would appear that it got much worse once they entered Valentine, with no gang member left untouched by the end of the series. Every plan they came up with once entering Valentine would hit a snare, even getting Cornwall involved when they became more active in Valentine. The only ones that weren't very affected by the curse were those who either weren't active in crimes at valentine (Sadie, the priest, Mary Beth) while others that showed compassion while commiting crimes in Valentine also seemed to get it easier like Charles. Great vid, thanks for making me think about this in more depth than I had with the previous curse video, glad you re-visited it.
Hmmm now that I think about it. Everytime they try to do a robbery or something in Valentine. They almost all get killed and the Pinkertons catch up with them after getting in Valentine a few days later. I dont think its a coincidence.

I think the curse is definitely an aspect of the town that is cool but the native american ghosts and the "piercing screams in the night" could be a way to cover up, or give a sense of comfort to the townsfolk, the many serial killers and outlaw that murder people around the town. Myths, legends, and superstitions have often been used like that irl as well.

Nah I agree. It feels like a real town. Idk the shrubby outdoors, the charming little church, the banging from the blacksmith / ferrier, and even one of the only doctors in the game to sell tonics to for easy money.
I get the same vibe as Armadillo in RDR (not RDR2 tho). The first time you visit Armadillo it feels like it's pulled straight out of a spaghetti western. Valentine is the perfect evolution of the "first backwater town you visit in the game" vibe, only with more mud lol.
I think the screams are the victims of that creepy serial killer's victims whose dungeon is just outside Valentine. They'd easily travel on a quiet night. Anyway I enjoy the atmosphere and character of Valentine, much more character than the under explored Rhodes.
@@Dallop-ru2 after you’ve found the 3 serial killer clues it will appear on your map just off the path if you’re riding from Valentine to Strawberry, it’s on the same path going to the Downes ranch just b4 it. There’s a cellar door that opens into the killers underground lair.
@jonathanking8429 I think I know what you mean! While I was playing online mode, I found something along that path that I thought was just the place were Arthur gets kidnapped by the O’Driscals. But then I remembered how Arthur runs away and the two locations couldn’t be the same!
The cause of the curse of Valentine is cut content. Theres a hide map that was to be found in parts around town that was based on the Sandy Creek massacre. The map is identical to a real life painting, and probably why it was cut. UA-camr alcomahol was able to add the map peices and the artifacts back in to the game. His videos are very informative on cut and beta content.
The eagle thing has nothing to do with foreshadowing Arthur's death. The artifact mask you find says "Where the eagle lands". the original side quest you had to follow and eagle to where it landed to finish the end of the mission.
when I started playing RDR2, i thought of it as a cool and realistic game, but as I started exploring the Murfree brood territory AT NIGHT, and the dam swamp AT NIGHT, i started to realise just how creepy it is. Especially going into random cabins and discovering the disturbing things that went down in them. RDR2 is one heck of a game
One of my favourite parts of red dead is how theirs so many layers to connect to, but they’re not pushed into your face. Anyone who plays the game comes across clear scenes of racist history represented, but i feel like where as in other media a lot of people have this gut reaction to things like this, feelings it’s shoved in, i feel like in red dead nobody complains because it’s so weaved into the landscape of the world as it is in real life , there’s not some big pause to show it, it’s everywhere but along with everything else.
This game really helped me in a tough time and so did you videos I’ll always be grateful for this game it got me through a heart break just for me to be even more heartbroken after Arthur’s death 😂😭

I always found it interesting that you can interact (go into) just about every building in Valentine... except the church. Everything else is coincidence and meant to entertain the player. EVERY TOWN in this game is shady. I always thought Strawberry held the most secrets with it's weird Mayor, and night activities.
At night and even in online mode I play in. The town has that very creepy vibe going on. Im not kidding one time I heard a man cough right behind me in Online mode and I turn around and nobodys thier. Its not just me I red some comments about Valentine on another video and reports are coming out of strange noise out near the Auction yard area.

The game is full of things like this. There's a hanging in Rhodes (idk if it can happen elsewhere) that the Sheriff says, while not verbatim but akin to, "This man thought he could leave his outlaw life in the past and live a happy life with a family..." which is essentially what John (and even Arthur) tried to do but it caught up with him.
The Van Der Linde gang does deserve their downfall, at the end of the day. They're outlaws. Criminals. Despite Dutch's attempt to romanticize their lives, Kieran was right. They're brutal thieves and killers just like the O'Driscolls and just like the other gangs. It takes nearly twenty years of kowtowing to Dutch's schemes, but Arthur finally realizes this, albeit too late to save himself. He redeems himself by laying down his own life to save his friends, by absolving Strauss' debts and putting an end to his usury by kicking him out of camp, and by just in general doing the right thing regardless of how much everyone else chastises him. RDR as a series is all about the concept of good within evil and evil within good. The protagonists are all anti-heroes, doing bad things for what they believe to be good reasons but eventually becoming disillusioned with crime and wanting to do better. The antagonists are all anti-villains, forces of good who ultimately seek to accomplish their goals by utilizing tactics one could call dishonorable at best, or abhorrent at worst. Milton and Ross are great examples of that, especially Ross. From the point of view of John, Ross seems like the bad guy because John wanted to leave his old life behind and be normal, his chances of re-offending were low. From the perspective of Ross, and likely society as a whole, they have a former outlaw living a fly's dick away from Blackwater, a former outlaw who is known for being highly skilled with a firearm and extremely dangerous. His chances of re-offending are high because once you're an outlaw you're always an outlaw, and it would likely be better for society if he were gone. Nobody is the good guy here, the world is a bottomless pit of assholes and you have to decide which one you hate the least, just like real life. Honestly it's impressive how well crafted the characters and their backstories are, and how everything weaves together like an intricate spider web. Ever since I realized that, I've been modifying my dual revolvers in RDR2 to be black with silver or gold engraving and a pearl grip, and silver with black engraving and ebony grip, kinda like yin and yang.
The whole mention of it been infested with crime, I find it funny it's one of the main fighting areas in Rdo, the amount of shootouts I've been in, in Valentine is crazy
I love the way they stuck so close to the truth when it comes to the history. Not just of America, but how native Americans and African Americans were treated back than. Showing how my ancestors were forced off our homelands and put into small reserves. Like the one I’m living in rn. This game has so much depth, and I love watching videos like this. I too have experienced this curse... I was heading to Valentine to get a haircut and perhaps play some poker. I was riding too fast on my horse. Accidentally ran over a fella. Skip ahead around five minutes, suddenly I've got a dead horse, no horse reviver, and a $120 bounty. Cursed indeed.

4:21 The painting is definitely Valentine; you have the cliffs to the left, similar to the one that you kill or rescue Jimmy Brooks. The road going north, the main enterance into town, with a turn off going east, main street. Then there's the forest and mountains in the background, that being the grizzlies and the Cumberland forest.
Also, It being named Valentine is Ironic when St. Valentine is the Patron Saint of mental illness, epilepsy, fainting, happy marriages, love, plague, travellers, and young people. In Valentine, you have rampant affaires, Mental Illness (Serial Killers), Fainting (Drunkards, You and Lenny, Angry Tommy), You (A traveller), Not one young person in sight, hate, etc. Valentine is the Antithesis of it's namesake.
Waipiti was pushed back more and more by the army so they may have been located in valentine at one time. Also Karen says and eagle or and owl. I think she's talking about eagle flies. Also it could be psychological, so only people who were involved in the massacre see things because of the guilt.
There is so much you can completely miss in this game. I always felt looking at the world map makes it seem pretty contained but there's something tucked into every corner
I love the world of RDR2 so much, but I think Valentine more than any other town really encompasses the image of an old west town to me, maybe even more so than Blackwater or Armadillo. The layout of the town with the major shops across from each other, the residentials scattered around and strolling into the saloon, it evokes a feeling of Old West Nostalgia, from my youth watching spaghetti westerns with my pop on the weekends.
I enjoy valentine. Its the perfect mix between a bigger town and a small community type feel. Valentine and strawberry are my most frequented hubs for horses and having a drink.
Honestly if the sounds only come out on windy nights is it possible that it could be animals or other sounds being carried in the wind. Maybe a woman being murdered and screaming or animals fighting etc
The real curse of Valentine is me when I dress up as close to a Predator/Alien hunter, or Wendigo as I can with the Ram skull mask and terrorize the NPCs.

@@SeriousDragonify Micah he was really probably the only one on board to massacre people, and Heckin Dutch went with it, and Arthur questioned it too late, well can’t blame em Dutch did raise him, I mean atleast in some of the endings he gets the merciful one because he got sick and Micah and Dutch let him die out, then again there’s another ending where Micah just shoots Arthur in the head.
@@Èèĕě-m1f I believe Dutch went insane since Anabelle was killed by Odriscolls. He fell apart from that point till Micah. Arthur however wasnt a good man. He admitted himself. He redeemed himself when he got sickness. Probably was once good when he had family but after that he didnt care for John during Prologue. If it wasnt for Abigail convincing him, probably wouldnt search for him. Dutch didnt care anymore when he recruited Micah. All those years was wasted with revolutions and didnt get awarded for it. The whole part he wanted to speed things up with BW part to everyone retire. Everyone was clouded with his ideology.
I like the idea that the curse is more just karma. I think a more supernatural curse is a bit over the top, but I like the subtlety in this one. It sounds like a curse that a real Native American would put upon someone. Besides, we already have the Armadillo curse that’s supernatural so having two is a bit much
i absolutely think karma is the curse of valentine and i don’t think any of it is coincidence. valentines acts as a harbinger character of sorts imo, similar to the horror trope of a decrepit old person warning the protagonists of danger ahead. especially in a game like this, i believe nothing is coincidence
I found it interesting that there is a random encounter where a guy mentions the whole Native American curse paintings. Talks about the murders and how the painting was torn to pieces
7:16 While we're discussing the valentine sherrif; He had a man killed for no reason in my playthrough. I killed some O' Driscolls outside the bar and looted a corpse, some guy saw it and didn't stop running so I followed him into the sherrif's office. he ratted me out to the sherrif and then the Deputy pulled out a revolver and fanned his ass for no reason. and then the sherrif walked up to the doorway and told me to move along like nothing happened.
there is even more cut content. like when you use mods to load ymaps, then you can find artifacts. like one will spawn on the counter of the gunsmith. a mask which you can inspect. so probably more of those were around
You know in Valentine you can here in NPC near the train station sometimes say something along the lines of “you hear about that feller that tried selling a human hide at the butcher yesterday” to another npc
YO.SO.WEIRD. Im sitting here playing my 3rd storymode playthrough, while also reading comments. Dude I read your comment, think to myself "Shit, never heard any NPC say that." Bro im in chapter 2, chillin in Strawberry, not 5 mins after i read your comment I go back to playing and this NPC standing in front of the saloon in Strawberry says that about the human hide. So basically, we are in a simulation
That makes sense why my poker hands are always shit, but in Blackwater and Saint Denis I clear the table I do love this little laugh laugh from a cowboy, just this melodic "he-heee"
I was aware of all this but I did thinking and digging and I came up with a few theories, the easiest to explain is that maybe Arthur wasn't the only gang member to get cursed but the gang getting cursed and when they left horseshoe overlook they the curse with them which let to the gang's demise with only the most honourable ones, for example Charles and Sadie surviving.
This game is absolutely incredible in every single way and from what i understand they even tried to add more to this game but they ran out of time and had to cut it because of the deadline of trying to get the game out on time you have to give props to Rockstar and the team who worked on this game
I'm not sure how the newspapers work in this game, but I got the article about "spectral canoes" after the mission where you rescue Eagle Flies from the army fort And in that mission, you do escape on canoes, which made me chuckle when I read it, 'cause I thought thr "spectral canoes" weee the nod to the escape, which happens on the same river, if I am not mistaken

That grave is Arthur's so by that point eagle flies was already dead and the attack happened on the oil fields

The Van Der Linde gang does deserve their downfall, at the end of the day. They're outlaws. Criminals. Despite Dutch's attempt to romanticize their lives, Kieran was right. They're brutal thieves and killers just like the O'Driscolls and just like the other gangs. It takes nearly twenty years of kowtowing to Dutch's schemes, but Arthur finally realizes this, albeit too late to save himself. He redeems himself by laying down his own life to save his friends, by absolving Strauss' debts and putting an end to his usury by kicking him out of camp, and by just in general doing the right thing regardless of how much everyone else chastises him.
RDR as a series is all about the concept of good within evil and evil within good. The protagonists are all anti-heroes, doing bad things for what they believe to be good reasons but eventually becoming disillusioned with crime and wanting to do better. The antagonists are all anti-villains, forces of good who ultimately seek to accomplish their goals by utilizing tactics one could call dishonorable at best, or abhorrent at worst. Milton and Ross are great examples of that, especially Ross. From the point of view of John, Ross seems like the bad guy because John wanted to leave his old life behind and be normal, his chances of re-offending were low. From the perspective of Ross, and likely society as a whole, they have a former outlaw living a fly's dick away from Blackwater, a former outlaw who is known for being highly skilled with a firearm and extremely dangerous. His chances of re-offending are high because once you're an outlaw you're always an outlaw, and it would likely be better for society if he were gone. Nobody is the good guy here, the world is a bottomless pit of assholes and you have to decide which one you hate the least, just like real life.
Honestly it's impressive how well crafted the characters and their backstories are, and how everything weaves together like an intricate spider web. Ever since I realized that, I've been modifying my dual revolvers in RDR2 to be black with silver or gold engraving and a pearl grip, and silver with black engraving and ebony grip, kinda like yin and yang.
Came for a spooky theory video, and instead got an insightful thematic analysis of the game’s subtle foreshadowing. No complaints here.

The whole mention of it been infested with crime, I find it funny it's one of the main fighting areas in Rdo, the amount of shootouts I've been in, in Valentine is crazy
I love the way they stuck so close to the truth when it comes to the history. Not just of America, but how native Americans and African Americans were treated back than. Showing how my ancestors were forced off our homelands and put into small reserves. Like the one I’m living in rn. This game has so much depth, and I love watching videos like this. The road going north, the main enterance into town, with a turn off going east, main street. Then there's the forest and mountains in the background, that being the grizzlies and the Cumberland forest.
Also, It being named Valentine is Ironic when St. Valentine is the Patron Saint of mental illness, epilepsy, fainting, happy marriages, love, plague, travellers, and young people.
In Valentine, you have rampant affaires, Mental Illness (Serial Killers), Fainting (Drunkards, You and Lenny, Angry Tommy), You (A traveller), Not one young person in sight, hate, etc.
Valentine is the Antithesis of it's namesake.
the real curse is the online mode on the Stalingrad scale shootouts that happen.

Waipiti was pushed back more and more by the army so they may have been located in valentine at one time. Also Karen says and eagle or and owl. I think she's talking about eagle flies. Also it could be psychological, so only people who were involved in the massacre see things because of the guilt.
Of course it all used to be Wapiti territory. You can even find dreamcatchers in a tree not too far from the town.

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the ghost canoe and midnight screams are in the game but just haven’t been found yet.
There is so much you can completely miss in this game. I always felt looking at the world map makes it seem pretty contained but there's something tucked into every corner
I love the world of RDR2 so much, but I think Valentine more than any other town really encompasses the image of an old west town to me, maybe even more so than Blackwater or Armadillo. The layout of the town with the major shops across from each other, the residentials scattered around and strolling into the saloon, it evokes a feeling of Old West Nostalgia, from my youth watching spaghetti westerns with my pop on the weekends.

Honestly if the sounds only come out on windy nights is it possible that it could be animals or other sounds being carried in the wind. Maybe a woman being murdered and screaming or animals fighting etc
The real curse of Valentine is me when I dress up as close to a Predator/Alien hunter, or Wendigo as I can with the Ram skull mask and terrorize the NPCs.

The real curse was tossed when Dutch accepted Micah.
@@SeriousDragonify Micah he was really probably the only one on board to massacre people, and Heckin Dutch went with it, and Arthur questioned it too late, well can’t blame em Dutch did raise him, I mean atleast in some of the endings he gets the merciful one because he got sick and Micah and Dutch let him die out, then again there’s another ending where Micah just shoots Arthur in the head.

I like the idea that the curse is more just karma. I think a more supernatural curse is a bit over the top, but I like the subtlety in this one. It sounds like a curse that a real Native American would put upon someone.
Besides, we already have the Armadillo curse that’s supernatural so having two is a bit much

i absolutely think karma is the curse of valentine and i don’t think any of it is coincidence. valentines acts as a harbinger character of sorts imo, similar to the horror trope of a decrepit old person warning the protagonists of danger ahead. especially in a game like this, i believe nothing is coincidence

While we're discussing the valentine sherrif; He had a man killed for no reason in my playthrough.
I killed some O' Driscolls outside the bar and looted a corpse, some guy saw it and didn't stop running so I followed him into the sherrif's office.
he ratted me out to the sherrif and then the Deputy pulled out a revolver and fanned his ass for no reason.
and then the sherrif walked up to the doorway and told me to move along like nothing happened.

I think fizhy is pretty close to hearing the half million lines of dialogue they recorded.
I was aware of all this but I did thinking and digging and I came up with a few theories, the easiest to explain is that maybe Arthur wasn't the only gang member to get cursed but the gang getting cursed and when they left horseshoe overlook they the curse with them which let to the gang's demise with only the most honourable ones, for example Charles and Sadie surviving.

This game is absolutely incredible in every single way and from what i understand they even tried to add more to this game but they ran out of time and had to cut it because of the deadline of trying to get the game out on time you have to give props to Rockstar and the team who worked on this game

I'm not sure how the newspapers work in this game, but I got the article about "spectral canoes" after the mission where you rescue Eagle Flies from the army fort
And in that mission, you do escape on canoes, which made me chuckle when I read it, 'cause I thought thr "spectral canoes" weee the nod to the escape, which happens on the same river, if I am not mistaken
