    Thank you for including the real history of Spectacle Island and George's story. As someone not from the US, when playing FO4 for the first time I was vaguely aware that the Railroad faction was supposed to mirror the real-life counterpart, and it got me into reading about the history of the Underground Railroad.
    I hope no one thinks I'm trivialising it, but now when building settlements that involve escaped/freed synths, I add other nods to it. A bar called The Drinkin' Gourd, a hotel called the Waystation Inn etc... It may seem silly but whenever I see those signs it prods me to be reminded of the deeper history. Now when I build on Spectacle Island, I'll build something as a nod to George, so I'll remember his story each time, too.

    Imagine the POV of a character who is trapped on the island during the events of fallout 4, after years of isolation you see a mirelurk queen (possibly the one you drove from the island) rise from the sea and attack the castle. Then a few days later you see a blimp fly over Boston and dock at the airport, and finally you must be going crazy because you see a 200 foot tall robot walk across the city and launch nuclear bombs like a football.

    The small problem with a lot of media is the first time experiencing it is always the best experience and after that, it doesn't have to get boring but, it usually doesn't get better...
    UA-cam doesn't really have that problem because every few months the algorithm blesses you with a totally different person and content style for you to go "Oh, this actually genuinely entertaining and interesting." allowing you to feel that best experience all over again! I've really loved this series! As someone who makes games as a hobby it's cool to see how in-depth (or lacking) locations can be in different RPG games. Do you think it's good design to have a location you could just play the entire game on as a serious playthrough or challenge mode?

    • @Joov
      @Joov  Рік тому +51

      That's tough to answer. I don't know much about "game design" per se, but what I love about certain open world games is when they prioritize the story that the player is trying to tell, rather than the story the game is trying to tell the player (think minecraft, skyrim, FO4 etc.) That's not to say one is better than the other, just my personal preference.

    • @derflerp538
      @derflerp538 Рік тому +3

      I think having a place like that is best when it's incidental, rather than a deliberate choice. If your game is content-rich and polished enough, there's a decent chance you'll end up with an area or two like that just as a by-product of developing the game as a whole.
      That said, I'm only just recently involved in any kind of game design, and just the art side of things so far, so consider that an unprofessional opinion. You know your games better than anyone else, and at the end of the day, your judgement is best.

  • @MadGameBoy
    @MadGameBoy Рік тому +3

    If I remember correctly only metal boxes & tool cabinets made by the player can have loot pools, everything else is treated as a player stash
    This is entirely accidental mind you, as ALL player created stashes are supposed to have zero loot pools, as the function for them is that players would use them to stash their own loot at their player created bases.
    Loot pools delete items that were left inside looted or unlooted chests, as when it respawns it essentially replaces the existing list of items inside with a new randomly generated list of items
    So you can see how players would be pissed off if you placed your loot in a chest and then have it all vanish to be replaced by some glue & a desk fan a few days later. That's why players are reccomended to delete existing chests and replace them with your own.
    For some god damn reason, they didnt apply this to player created metal crates or tool cabinets (wall or floor mounted)
    That's why your coolers, wooden boxes & red tool boxes wouldnt spawn anything but the others did. They werent meant to
    This small oversight is a bane to most players who mistakingly use these items in their bases, but in your case, it is helpful to make your own loot pools

      Thanks for the kind words. It wasn't an easy subject to cover given the material being dark, but when I started finding nationally archived documents corroborating the entire story I felt compelled to tell as much as I could as best as I could. It's certainly something I'm not too used to, but I took great joy in sharing an important piece of Boston/American history.

    You should try giving yourself 1-2 hours in the main game before locking yourself up somewhere in one of these challenges to help with the grinding a little bit and add another level of planning and panic :))
    Also, love the history lesson, this was a really really cool video! Next time I visit boston in fallout 4 and irl I'll have to check out this island :)

      Normally I would agree with you, but I think Joov has proven himself more than capable of handling/outsmarting level 40 creatures at level 1. (And the panicky flailing is sort of the fun part anyway lol)
      And I think being able to go shopping ahead of time sort of defeats the purpose of the challenge, really, which is to make use of only the items available in that one location.

    Just want to let it be known. You are one of my absolute favorite creators on ANY platform! Your videos always manage to lighten my worst of days & put a smile on my face. So I really hope you are doing well & enjoy making content as much as I enjoy consuming! (If that's possible lol) I couldn't tell you how many times I've gone back and re-watched all your videos. A lot of times I get in a playlist with all your vids and listen throughout my day, sometimes while I sleep.😅So I truly hope the stresses of life don't get you down, or at least I hope you have a creator that can brighten your day as much as you do mine! I'm confident I'll stick around for any content you release. Be it Bethesda related or not! Though I would love to see some Starfield content or Es6 whenever either of those release. (Assuming they don't suck 😬) So I ask you keep up the amazing work & of course keep improving all you can! I know you have what it takes to make it big.
    Continue being beautiful Joov!

    As a person of color, I really appreciate you sharing that story of George at the end. I've done a rather great deal of learning on slavery but I was mostly concerned with the "Why?" and the "How did people rationalize enslaving their fellow human beings?" so even I had never heard that story. Thank you for shedding light on this (as far as I know) rather unknown tale of a man's courage and the impact he had in history.
