You know the juice you were talking about are actually toads energy. Meaning the boss was drinking toads to power up the shroobs ship. Literally this game kills toads for fuel
Man it was disturbing to kid me in the fact is that after every few levels, a secondary character gets "killed" like damn that's dark for a Mario game. But I feel the dark tone gave the game it's own personality, like BIS with its writing and DT with its gameplay.
Thats really weird, I'm still very very young, but since PiT was my first ever Mario & Luigi game and one of the first games I've ever played, I guess I either didn't understand it, or the dark themes helped me grow up in some ways. I feel like Nintendo has definitely helped other kids grow up and be more mature with games like PiT without forcing too much darkness, thus making it lose that Nintendo touch.
If Antdude paid attention E Gadd stats the *chemicals* in baby tears were the weakness and key to killing the Shroobs and their influences on the world. So he build a machine with that chemical dosage in the water pumps.

Partners in Time was actually the first Mario & Luigi game I played, so from that perspective, I mainly have positive feelings with this game. When not compared as a sequel, I think it's just a solid and creative game! I remember being excited for boss fights and being excited to see what would happen to certain characters throughout the game. But the plot does raise a few questions, namely... am I to believe that if time travel never existed, the Mario Bros. would have died as babies? Either way, thanks for giving the game a look, AntDude! You're right; this game IS often overlooked, so it's nice to see more people talking about it. =)

If anything, this is the one that needs the remake the most. If they can fixed alot of the problems; while also keeping some things good about it, than it could be an whole lot better. I still enjoyed this one into some extent. But it definitely needs alot more improvement here & there.
in regards to the story, it was probably destiny or something like that for mario and luigi to go back in time and defeat the shroobs, otherwise the future would be all shrooby. it's a stable time loop
Landis. But think about it. If the Shroobs from the past somehow killed the baby Mario Bros. & other young characters from the past, shouldn't the adult versions in the future not been around? Because that was my first gripe with the story is that & I think it would've been better if they it the opposite.
This was my 1st Mario & Luigi game. My Mother got this for me on my birthday cause u know it got mario on it lol. Video is quite fitting considering she put me on this series.
Shout out to those that still own a copy of this game. I remember playing this game again several years ago and the final boss theme still brings a chill down my spine.
It's amazing how the time-traveling aspect is completely wasted in this game. The present is nothing more than a hub world and you can't even go outside the castle. There's a bit in Star Hill where you fight a mimic enemy that straights up turns into Bowser, as in modern-day Bowser with no explanation.
What if a potential remake were to have a "part 2" where the Shroob Princess survives and escapes to the present, and begins trying to corrupt other characters with the Mushrooms? The fight with the possessed Bowser could come at the end of that part rather than right after the final battle in the past. I'm not entirely sure how that would end up working, but it's an idea that popped into my mind.
this game got me through a lot of tough times in my life. This and Paper Mario the Thousand year door came into my life during a few surgeries, a 2nd degree burn and parents losing their jobs. It was dark but these games made me really happy.
I remember thinking all Mario and Luigi's after Partners in Time would bring back the babies and disappointed when they never returned. Partners in Time is the only game in the series I replay because I miss the babies.
You dare to diss partners in time? You have a deathwish my friend. Nah but seriously, as much as I absolutely adore the game, I’m certainly not blind to its faults. Great video man.
As much as an underrated gem (especially by TheTopTens) as Partners in Time is, the only real fault it has is that while it does have a story so amazingly atmospheric all hell broke loose, some characters can be out of character. Princess Peach (both the adult and baby versions) were annoying because they were damsels in distress and even Adult Luigi, one of my favourite characters in the franchise had his out of character moments here like when he scared the Mario Bros. by raging at them when they (along with Adult Mario) landed down the Gritzy Caverns (Gritzy is part of why PIT deserves much better). I know it’s once in a while and made for comedy, but still!
R.I.P alphadream It was really fun playing through the M&L games and discovering secrets in those games I really miss them And the saddest part is that we won’t be able to play a remaster version of this game which is really sad because I really liked those games
Healmore The saddest part is we’ll never get a Mario & Luigi game with Wario and his Wario Land context sensitive invulnerability powers like being set on fire and burning everything he runs into, getting a head so swollen from bee sting allergies that it freaking floats above the stage until it hits the ceiling and leaks out air, becoming a *FREAKING* *ZOMBIE* being flattened like a pancake allowing him to slowly flutter down long crevices with tiny openings into caves, etc., etc. They could have even added Waluigi and given him sports attacks, maybe even have him face off against one of Wario Land’s few reoccurring bosses, the sports rabbit.
the real saddest part is that one of their best games never left Japan...Tomato Adventure was a fun & hilarious RPG that actually led to them making Superstar Saga, and the only way to play it outside Japan is either track down an import copy or download the ROM for a GBA emulator :/ also why did we get a crossover with Paper Mario ( which from what I've been hearing shares some of the same story & character issues that the awful last 2 Paper Mario games have ) and a random remake of Bowser's Inside Story that feels more like a slightly better looking remaster than a remake instead of another 4 character entry with the other 2 being either Wario & Waluigi or Peach & Daisy? Both of those ideas had so much potential.... :/
Paper Jam is one of my favorites in terms of gameplay. My only real problem with it was I thought the story didn't utilize the concept to its full potential. I wish we had gotten more Paper Mario characters and bosses to give it even more of a crossover feel. I love all of the games, but I personally think Superstar Saga is the "weakest" just because I feel that the others built upon it. Dream Team is probably my favorite overall I think, but I feel like the quality of the series is fairly consistent for the most part.
Paper Jam is a god awful game with little charm, and so many glitches that it would make Sonic Boom surprised. PiT is definitely not the worst. and... ngl, Dream Team was just.. something. The art style change really hurt the charm the series had because you can't percieve their actions when talking better.
also Paper Jam came out not long after the abortion that is Sticker Star, you know, the game that killed the Paper Mario franchise. Yeah... Paper Jam was just a lame attempt to revive its lost relevance by having a game collab with it..
Partners in time or the first one is probably my favourite game in the series. I liked the baby brothers, and using the four buttons for special attacks and such. The partner attacks felt pretty good too nail. I also enjoyed the Princess Shroob as a villain. The first one was just a really fresh game with some great writing and characters. The bean kingdom made for a good setting.
Oh man, way to miss the single most interesting thing about this game: it supports the DS rumble pak. If you want to talk about Alpha Dream forcing in DS special features... Rumble support is THE pinnacle on the console.
antdude, I think that the reason why the game feel ''under cook'' is because alphadream had not the nintendo ds dev kits and were obligated to make one with 2 gba screens and a super nintendo controller, so they could not integrate too many thing that really use the ds. You talked about the fact that we use the touch screen only one time in the game and I think that it is beacause near the end, they had some dev kits ^^''. That could maybe not be the real reason why it is like that, but I think that a good answer :D
I think i read somewhere they added that touchscreen part to avoid emulation, as emulators at that time didn't have touchscreen functionalities. Also i mean, the touchscreen wouldn't have really been useful
God I played this game so much on my totally legal R4 card when I was a kid. Bowser's Inside Story is still the best in my opinion, but this one is a close second
That's how I experienced most of my childhood, on three different R4 carts (lost the first two, third one I formatted for my tablet) . My sister had some as well. Her last one is currently in my possession, but it isn't compatible with my 2DS. Still gonna keep it in case some day I get a regular DS just for this cart.
A Baby Bowser subplot could've been pretty cool Thought there's a lack of notable bowser aligned characters at that time period (it's just baby bowser and kamek)
It’s actually interesting to know that we continue the Mario and Luigi Series from Baby Mario and Luigi’s perspectives you find this out in Bowsers Inside Story when entering The freezer in Bowser’s Castle in which you find the Shroobs again.
I don't really think the hidden Shroob fight properly indicated that the Mario Bros in BiS are the baby bros from PiT. I think it was more so referring to when the adult bros teamed up with their younger selves to combat the Shroobs. In other words, the Mario Bros in later games were not the babies continuing the series.
Hollijolli Village, the Vim Factory, and Yoob's Belly were genuinely nightmare fuel for me as a kid. I also struggled pretty hard with Princess Shroob's castle because as a kid I didn't really understand how leveling up worked. But I eventually beat the game after many many hours, and it's been one of my favorite games since it came out
Oh boy...this game is soooo a big part of my childhood, I played it so much! I don't know if its nostalgia but for me, the Mario & Luigi series is one of the best I ever seen! I love also the episode with Bowser (Fawful is a good antagonist !).
I’m indifferent to Stuffwell. He’s not as bad as people say. But Starlow was 50 TIMES WORSE! Starlow interrupts you so many times every 10 seconds over things she already told you. I know it's minority opinion but I enjoyed it slightly more than Superstar Saga or even the original Mario RPG, and it's DEFINITELY better than the last 2 Paper Mario games for example.
There's 2 reasons why I love this game so much: it was my first Mario and Luigi game, and the humor is just spot on. I don't think I laughed harder at any other game when I was 13 than this one. And the babies are just too cute for words
Partners in Time is great, but it’s so short. When I replayed it recently, I was surprised how soon it ended. It’s also the most linear Mario & Luigi game. But I think it does really well at puzzles and battling, even though it lacks a BP system.
Nah it was skipped due to poor sales and AlphaDream was going bankrupt, so they remade BIS for the money due to the higher sales but even then, the 3DS was dying so AlphaDream went bankrupt sadly

But partners in time was the one i would play multiple times over because of the reasons i mentioned before. That one was more memorable to me. This was before the remake's came. Meaby some nostalgia on my part but it is what it is. But which one is your favorite then?
Imagine if the baby Mario bros just straight up died or got brain damage or something, and the entire rest of the series the effects of what happened to the babies made things all crazy like some insane butterfly effect. I have know idea what made me think of this.

I've been nervous about going through Xenoblade because I'm intimadated by the battle system, but I'm hoping to give it another try soon. I hate missing out on good games just because I suck at them.
The gameplay criticisms are all very accurate, which I think adds to the story being what makes this game stand out. It's not a dark game overall. It's a silly game with a lot of surprisingly dark elements. It's still a funny Mario game with goofy enemies, but it also has you travel through multiple ghost towns where the toads were either killed or abducted to have their life force drained. That juxtaposition always made this game stand out for me.
Tommy Deonauth's Archives I got condemned for saying Partners in Time (and especially Superstar Saga) was a superior Mario & Luigi game to it’s successors, even when I said I liked BiS! But that’s not even the worst part of when it came to having opinions on the Mario RPGs! Something *much* worse is that I said that Paper Mario: Sticker Star was *nowhere* near as good as other Mario RPGs, especially the ones that came before it like SMRPG, the 2000s Paper Mario and Superstar Saga, and people made me look/sound like a bandwagoner for knowing it’s true that Sticker Star doesn’t even live up to previous (and to a lesser extent, later Mario RPGs) by even the very least bit.
8:40 it's even easier once you got your hand onto the trampoline and later the copy flower Both are technically infinite so if you don't fail everything can be killed in one turn
Superstars Saga was my first Mario game period, so I was glad to see it hold up so well when not looked at through nostalgia glasses. This however, hurt. My second Mario and Luigi game that I always wanted as a kid, but didn't play until a few years ago on virtual console. I love this game, but I have to agree with most of the criticism. It's darker, harder, and quiet memorable (to me at least), but it just doesn't hold up in retrospect (especially how dragged out a lot of it is).

If Antdude paid attention E Gadd stats the *chemicals* in baby tears were the weakness and key to killing the Shroobs and their influences on the world. So he build a machine with that chemical dosage in the water pumps.

like bro, did you even try to care about this game's lore?
literally some really cool stuff if you did.
Partners in Time will always be my personal favorite in the series. Love this game so much.
I totally agree. My brother and I would play the game together. He would do the boss fights and let me do the exploring. Its was fun😊
I just wanted to mention that I just made my own video about the Shroobs, and how they're the most evil villains in the entire Mario franchise. They do some truly horrific things and their fear and intimidation factor is probably the highest for any Mario villain too.
ua-cam.com/video/dZQY0XkW5lo/v-deo.html
Finally, some actual representation for Ed, Edd n Eddy The Mis-Edventures

Honestly, the four button mechanic is my favorite thing about this game.
I found it hard to memorized. Especially when doing puzzles and Bros. Attack stuff.
Oh yeah Handfake... that was weird
I wonder if they held back because honestly time travel mechanics get done to death in Nintendo's other games.
HeavyDonkeyKong I can see it happening since I’m BiS, Bowser still has the Shroobs frozen in ice

You dare to diss partners in time? You have a deathwish my friend.
Nah but seriously, as much as I absolutely adore the game, I’m certainly not blind to its faults. Great video man.
Deathwish, huh, kiddo?
@@GlisteningDes1ra3 Kiddo? I’m 19 dude 😞
Kieran. It's not just the character reaction at it's fault u know. There's couple more that could've benefit it alot better.
R.I.P alphadream
It was really fun playing through the M&L games and discovering secrets in those games I really miss them
And the saddest part is that we won’t be able to play a remaster version of this game which is really sad because I really liked those games
Cool but Celeste gang
Healmore The saddest part is we’ll never get a Mario & Luigi game with Wario and his Wario Land context sensitive invulnerability powers like being set on fire and burning everything he runs into, getting a head so swollen from bee sting allergies that it freaking floats above the stage until it hits the ceiling and leaks out air, becoming a *FREAKING* *ZOMBIE* being flattened like a pancake allowing him to slowly flutter down long crevices with tiny openings into caves, etc., etc. They could have even added Waluigi and given him sports attacks, maybe even have him face off against one of Wario Land’s few reoccurring bosses, the sports rabbit.
the real saddest part is that one of their best games never left Japan...Tomato Adventure was a fun & hilarious RPG that actually led to them making Superstar Saga, and the only way to play it outside Japan is either track down an import copy or download the ROM for a GBA emulator :/
also why did we get a crossover with Paper Mario ( which from what I've been hearing shares some of the same story & character issues that the awful last 2 Paper Mario games have ) and a random remake of Bowser's Inside Story that feels more like a slightly better looking remaster than a remake instead of another 4 character entry with the other 2 being either Wario & Waluigi or Peach & Daisy? Both of those ideas had so much potential.... :/
Brotherhood this November :)
Ok, this video cant get bett-
Dancing baby luigi: what did you say?
Is it REALLY considered the weakest in the series though? I usually hear people say that's Paper Jam (to which I would agree)
Well until Paper Jam came out atleast. Although I'd argue that I enjoyed Paper Jam more mechanically speaking but that's my opinion.
Paper Jam is straight up mediocre. Few M&L fans like it.
I really loved the character dynamics between the 4 bros. There's just something so heartwarming about their every scene.
This is so nostalgic for me. My very first RPG and my favorite in the series.
Oh man, way to miss the single most interesting thing about this game: it supports the DS rumble pak. If you want to talk about Alpha Dream forcing in DS special features... Rumble support is THE pinnacle on the console.
It was the first Mario and Luigi game i ever played. I think it had a lot of charm and it really deserves a remake. I will never forget this game
I don’t know who’s referencing who, but this game and double dash both have the babies riding on a chain chomp. That’s pretty cool, ngl
Unpopular opinion: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time > even the best Mario Kart games (Double Dash, DS and Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 & 2)
antdude, I think that the reason why the game feel ''under cook'' is because alphadream had not the nintendo ds dev kits and were obligated to make one with 2 gba screens and a super nintendo controller, so they could not integrate too many thing that really use the ds.
Still a great game despite its flaws! 😃
God I played this game so much on my totally legal R4 card when I was a kid. Bowser's Inside Story is still the best in my opinion, but this one is a close second

Didint have a remake called “Mario and Luigi Partners in Time + Baby Bowser’s Pilot?”
Walkman05 that’s a fan concept for a remake
A Baby Bowser subplot could've been pretty cool
Thought there's a lack of notable bowser aligned characters at that time period (it's just baby bowser and kamek)

Partners in Time will always be my favorite.
It's the only one that I replayed several times.
Knowing what I know about Miyamoto, I bet he's the one who established that quota of new form of bowser to fight.

Ah yes, the game that got shafted from a remake in the dead light of the 3DS.
