Multiple animation pros have said "it's all in the eyes" so this is a big deal I studied this fucker hard solely because of how GOOD he looked in the original. Peach having magic isn't anything new though, it's outright stated to be the reason Bowser kidnaps Peach in the original Super Mario Bros. It just doesn't show up too often because it doesn't really have a reason to.
"On October 1, 2019, AlphaDream declared bankruptcy, citing sluggish revenues and high development costs, and being unable to keep up with growing debt" - Wikipedia Saddest news ever.
Nowonder they remastered this game. They run out of money so they just think "Hey let's remake our highest sold unit game people might buy it so we can get back money". Well that didn't work well
Alphadream made the dumbest decision ever remaking Bowser's Inside Story. I consider that and Dream Team to be near perfect RPGs. Partners in Time was the game that should've been remade. It's the weakest in the series with it never taking its elements to the fullest potential.
@@Dorian_Scott I disagree. Paper jam is by far the weakest. The story is worse, there's no unique characters, the funny interactions aren't nearly as plentiful and the whole game just felt like it was missing alot of that mario and luigi charm. Pit should have gotten the remake but it is not the weakest.
To be honest I kind of liked how similar they looked. Maybe just because that was one of the games that introduced me to Baby Bowser. My theory is that Baby Bowser is a bit older in the games where he looks like Bowser Jr, and was more of a newborn in the games where he looked different. Also, Partners In Time gave him a different bandanna than the one that Bowser Jr wears.
Honestly the Dark Star and fawful are my favorite Mario antagonist in the entire franchise because they both play off each other so well Dark Star is an ancient evil made to take seriously he's a threat through and through and he just screams intimidation whenever you see him which makes him a great contrast to fawful who was Goofy and pretty comedic throughout the game but can also be terrifying just as well and they both play off each other so well because of it
As someone who’s only heard of the game up until now, I thought they were being poetic like they were gonna take a journey into Bowser’s psychology and who he is and what built him to be this great villain but also a loving father. I mean yeah we got that but I didn’t know they were being literally about it being a story…..inside bowser
It's REALLY tragic how AlphaDream went bankrupt... ... but at the same time, they chose to release an Inside Story remake when one, you could already play BiS on the 3DS, and two, the 3DS was dying at the time
oh hello again time lord of youtube. but yeah a PIT remake would've sold better, as even though the 3DS was dying it still had a lot of people buying it, and if they bought it for the game the 3DS might still be alive today
Those chose BiS cause it sold better, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have a choice on what console it was on. If they remastered PiT they would most likely get less money than they did with this.
I think the scariest thing about Alpha dream going bankrupt and Nintendo still owning the franchise is the fact that if a sequel ever comes, we will not only never be able to see those three original looking minions from Bomser, but neither any original looking character ever, look at what they said in that interview about The Origami King!
@@pizzamaster355 Ok, I will recommend you in video to watch for that, or you could read it on the media. Do you know Arlo? Well, he talked about in his channel, not only his review upon Origami King but also what the creator of the game mentioned
I‘m pretty sure that’s just a Paper Mario thing. The mobile version of Dr Mario has a „Dr Goomba Tower“ for Christ‘s sake. Plus the BIS remake actually had completely original villains for Bowser Jr’s Journey even after Paper Jam dropped, so that mandate about not being allowed to make up any new species either definitely didn’t affect Mario&Luigi even though it clearly affected Paper Mario at the time.
my personal favorite parts of the video: "uh oh now bowser got fat" 4:58 "Luigi gets fat" 10:58 "while outside bowser gets to deal with-" 5:28 "bowser gets big" 12:51 bowsers oh no part 1 5:51 bowsers oh no part 2 21:56
Bowser Jr's Journey has an incredible story, with a lot of character interactions between Junior, Kamek, and the koopalings. You get to learn so much about them, and Junior has a complete character arc through the whole story. I would definitely recommend watching a video that's just the cutscenes to experience that story and see either Junior or your favorite koopaling under a new light.
@@prisonmike4749 I'm glad I'm not alone on this, as I'm one of the few people that actually liked Bowser Jr's journey (I even enjoyed it more than the main game as it was a new experience and was actually difficult since I'm of the stance that BIS is too easy) I thought the story was really interesting albeit simple (though it's a Mario game so not expecting much there) and the gameplay was surprisingly fun (since I saw all the negative reviews for it beforehand I went in with low expectations) Overall the mini-campaign was a fun, pleasant surprise.
@@prisonmike4749 I think Bowser Jr's Journey gets slept on, and the remake certainly looks good. I don't fault anyone for preferring it. But I do have to give props to the original for having some of the best sprite art in a Nintendo game. I also appreciate that it had more varied, less generic designs for Toads and such.
Micah TV Gameplay Lol... I mean you aren't wrong, he sucks at being a villain because he always seems to have the same plot of kidnapping the princess! 😂😂😂
Something interesting about the remake is that some of the endgame fights have different music with them. Dark Star got it's own unique theme, and when you fight Fawful as Bowser it's a slowed down version of Cackletta's Theme which is a really nice touch!
Dark Star Battle in particular is an amazingly good listen. That said, I really don't want to talk too bad about Yoko but... That remade soundtrack is not as good. It's not the fact that it's synthesized because Dream Team and Paper Jam have beautiful music, especially Dream Team. But BiS+BM had... Some downgrades in soundtrack imo. It's not that the tracks themselves are bad, but they don't have... Good mixing? Toad Town and the Boss Theme are the two best examples, wind instruments sound way too flat but the melody itself isn't too bad. Idk it leaves me really mixed since the original stuff is amazing (bowser jr. Journey's battle and boss battle themes are freaking amazing, same joes to Bowser's Minions as well)
@@reydesonic Honestly, it depends on the track whether it sounds better or worse than the ds version. Deep Castle, the giant, and Capri Cape sound great on the 3DS while stuff like Deep Castle(Inside Bowser), the boss theme, and even In the Final in a way have a sort of uncanny quality to them which is a shame since I thought the og tracks knocked out of the park.
Bowser's Inside Story stands today as my favorite game of all time. When I was a young laddy with my DS, this game taught me what video games could really be, and that's before I knew about how it was essentially a finale to the Fawful saga, and a perfect one at that. I've beaten it so many times dude, it's just perfection, and the title theme never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Hell, a tear was shed as I'm typing this because it brought back the memories of a simpler time.
Especially since there are already some other changes to the style. Like how the bros are drawn without irises in their eyes. I don't get it. Do they think these slight differences would hurt their brand or something? Or would make the Mario bros less recognizable? It's honestly baffling.
Zanytiger6 No i meant YOU are making a big deal out of it. It’s one sock. Yeah i like Luigi’s stripped socks too, but why make such a big deal over it? It’s so small that it really doesn’t matter
15:15 I should've known Yoko Shimomura made the soundtrack. This game's soundtrack along with the Kingdom Hearts series' soundtracks are definitely some of her best music.
@@jjc4924 I used to hate the carrot, but I always hated the Wiggler boss more. Making Bowser sneeze is way harder because the touch controls aren’t responsive enough in the original game.
This game is actually kind of replayable in my eyes. I started playing this game again recently and mind you when I first played this it was when it first came out for DS. Playing it again I forgot a lot of the quirky fun moments in the game as well as the amazing fight near the end. I got to re-live learning about this game and I'm happy I did.
not to me. The gimmick mini games are a crazy difficulty spike which ruins any interest in me playing it again. Which is shame since the core gameplay is great. Just all the other stuff is terrible.
When they were making Partners in time, before the console was even announced I think, they didn't know about there being touchscreen controls. Info on the DS was being kept secret, so they knew they could use 2 screens, but not a touchscreen until very late in development.
This game is my favorite one in the Mario and Luigi series because it introduced my favorite Mario and Luigi series-exclusive characters: Starlow and Fawful. Oh, and the gameplay and music are really good too, I guess.

@Big Butter Building Even if Tanabe's not even trying to play around those mandates like Alphadream did with the remakes (Beanerang Bro, anyone?), at least he confirmed something people have suspected for quite a while.
Everything inflation. Bowser gets fat, Luigi gets fat, Mario has been getting fat for 3 games despite the star door saying that "Eating pasta with sauce is not good for his body".
We do not discuss this, or that one dragon from paper Mario with the “foot thing”. It is forbidden and furthermore I don’t know what any of those words mean, I have never been on the internet, and all of you are guilty of Crimes.
One of my all time favourite games. The sheer amount of nostalgic memories I have with this game is astounding. I grew up with the game. And let me tell you, I spent AGES on the final boss just because I wasn't very good at sucking things in. I remember nearly beating him but I had to go to bed, so I shut my DS so I could finish him tomorrow. Well f*ck me the game froze and I had to do it all again. But let me tell you, the final boss theme. Hot damn it's still one of my all time favourite pieces of music. I liked that they remixed it a little in the remake, I really do, but you can't make something better that's already perfect. Overall, I love both the original and the remake. Both have their fair share of pros and cons. I could go on and on about how good the bosses are, or how much I liked the giant fights. But that would take ages. So for closure, to everyone reading this that hasn't played the game yet, what you waiting for? Go get it, it's definitely worth it.
This is honestly my favorite game of all time. The gameplay blends elements of platformers and RPGs seamlessly, the music is great and almost always fits the mood (except the boss theme, which can get unfitting during the endgame boss battles), and the story is well-written, engaging, and never gets too dark or too lighthearted. My only problem with this game is that it's a bit too easy without the Challenge Medal.
I hope he knows stuffwell did get to be on the box art they just took him off. He was supposed to be under baby Bowser, he was also dropping items and gear. Clumbsy dude.
I remember playing this game throughout my childhood. It was one of the first video games I owned personally. I hit many roadblocks in the game and restarted it a couple of times but I finished it eventually. I sadly had to get the 3DS remaster as my DS cartridge was getting old and doing weird stuff to my 3DS. I hope Nintendo makes another Mario and Luigi game eventually...
Another Mario and Luigi game would be nice, but what would be even nicer is another game where Bowser is the main playable protagonist. I love Mario and Luigi as much as the next Nintendo freak, but Bowser was such a damn delight to play in this that now all I want is a stand-alone Bowser game.
I never got the Bowser's Inside Story remake, and a part of me still wants to, just because it still looks like a solid time. But I can't deny it seriously lacks the charm of the original. I've been replaying the games this year (outside Partners in Time, since I wasn't feeling like it, honestly) and the original still holds up fantastic. The only issue I had with Inside Story on my playthrough this year was the timing for the battles just felt off compared to Dream Team and Paper Jam, which is a fault of mine entirely, but I just never could get back into the groove of the attacks completely. Like, anyone will say AlphaDream's bankruptcy wasn't a complete shock given the choices they made in their final years, but it still sucks because say what you will about some of the later games (namely the last three 3DS titles) but they always managed to turn out fun games, even if they weren't truly revolutionary, which was a welcome breath of fresh air compared to the former sibling RPG Paper Mario being unable to stop experimenting in ways that baffled fans. And now we have no Mario RPGs and I'm sad.
ChefUTG3 I mean, that's fine, but Nintendo have said in interviews they view Origami King and Color Splash as adventure games, not RPGs. What I said isn't to disparage Origami King, I plan to get it eventually, but it IS considered an adventure game above anything else by the creators.
@@soilthestillborn4949 Final Fantasy II and Chrono Cross are RPGs. They also have no experience points. Believe it or not, whenever there's a game with a character with an assigned role on a campaign o defeat a bad guy terrorizing the land with other characters with different roles, confronting enemies via decisions-based combat, equipping weapons that better suit the situation at hand, accruing resources by defeating enemies in order to progress through the game more expediently, and getting stronger as the journey progresses, you don't need experience points to then decide "Oh hey, this is an RPG now, lol".

I wish Bowser Jr’s Journey didn’t have the same gameplay that Minion Quest had, because the story is really good, and if it had better gameplay, I might be bothered to actually finish it.
They would’ve been better off making a remake of Partners in Time for the 3DS where they could’ve improved upon the usage of the touch screen and added the option to get to the places quicker from Toad Town. Saving Bowser’s Inside Story for the Switch would’ve saved the company. Not by a lot, just to keep them on hold for a few years for them to come back in 2026.
I'm just commenting here because I got to watch this before it got privated. Edit: So to give an actual comment. I haven't played a M&L game before, but given the option between these two versions of Bowser's Inside Story, the clip at 21:50 definitely would've cemented the original DS version being my choice because OOF that doesn't look good for the 3DS one.
Yeah, but he'll most likely like it. So I'm actually more excited to see what he thinks about Paper Jam, the kind of average one. I think Paper Jam has the best gameplay in the series, but the story is so bare-bones that I don't even know what the point of bringing Paper Mario was.

She does it in Dream Team before the final battle though

it's her wish power from pm. and it was used in dreamteam as mario and luigi has continuity.
Peach having magic isn't anything new though, it's outright stated to be the reason Bowser kidnaps Peach in the original Super Mario Bros. It just doesn't show up too often because it doesn't really have a reason to.

wow that was 2 days before my birthday :(
Nowonder they remastered this game.
AethernalVoid and Bowser Jr’s Journey
Honestly the Dark Star and fawful are my favorite Mario antagonist in the entire franchise because they both play off each other so well
Dark Star is an ancient evil made to take seriously he's a threat through and through and he just screams intimidation whenever you see him which makes him a great contrast to fawful who was Goofy and pretty comedic throughout the game but can also be terrifying just as well and they both play off each other so well because of it
I love this game, but I wouldn't be lying if I thought the title of the game made me think Bowser was writing a personal biography of his life.
Ha! I see what you mean.
Would you not read that though?
i legitimately want that so bad
As someone who’s only heard of the game up until now, I thought they were being poetic like they were gonna take a journey into Bowser’s psychology and who he is and what built him to be this great villain but also a loving father. I mean yeah we got that but I didn’t know they were being literally about it being a story…..inside bowser
Thats literally why I bought the game! I thought I was Bowsers backstory
Dear Christopher Moon, ua-cam.com/video/qs5n4OA50eg/v-deo.html
Those chose BiS cause it sold better, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have a choice on what console it was on. If they remastered PiT they would most likely get less money than they did with this.
The most likey possibility was they couldn't afford to develop for the Switch so they basically had no choice.
A Random Pokemon Fan no
I think the scariest thing about Alpha dream going bankrupt and Nintendo still owning the franchise is the fact that if a sequel ever comes, we will not only never be able to see those three original looking minions from Bomser, but neither any original looking character ever, look at what they said in that interview about The Origami King!
What interview?
@@pizzamaster355 Ok, I will recommend you in video to watch for that, or you could read it on the media. Do you know Arlo? Well, he talked about in his channel, not only his review upon Origami King but also what the creator of the game mentioned
This already happened with paper jam.
Edwin Uriel Velasquez Rivas I think that only applies for Paper Mario. All the other Mario games can have original characters.

Bowser Jr's Journey has an incredible story, with a lot of character interactions between Junior, Kamek, and the koopalings. I would definitely recommend watching a video that's just the cutscenes to experience that story and see either Junior or your favorite koopaling under a new light.

I hate to admit it, i perfer the remake. It looks better, and I liked Bowser Jr's Journey
I mean... Reggie is sorta right. He's a villain that's not all that threatening, much like Dr. Eggman.
Something interesting about the remake is that some of the endgame fights have different music with them. Dark Star got it's own unique theme, and when you fight Fawful as Bowser it's a slowed down version of Cackletta's Theme which is a really nice touch!
Never played the remake, hold on gotta go listen to this.

Same
Antdude: I want my own clump of Goombas.
Waddle Dee clumps from Star Allies: Am I a joke to you?
To be fair, this clump came first.
Yea
Ok, and?
(Are *WE* )
Gods this game is so nostalgic for me. Even the music gives me goosebumps. I loved this game as a kid, like dang I’d play it for hours on end.
Can’t wait for him to talk about Dream Team, that one was my favorite
Same!
Yeah, but he'll most likely like it.
So I'm actually more excited to see what he thinks about Paper Jam, the kind of average one.
I think Paper Jam has the best gameplay in the series, but the story is so bare-bones that I don't even know what the point of bringing Paper Mario was.
That was the first Mario game I got
That’s the worse game in the series
It was my FIRST mario RPG game I ever got
I love this game so much. I played inside story on my DS lite as a kid and got the 3DS version last christmas. I definitely prefer the 2D animation, though the 3D is still enjoyable
One minor change in the remakes that I absolutely love is the addition of new battle themes for the Dark Star and Dark Fawful.
Wait, this was already available a bit ago? The early ants get the worm, I guess.
there was an error in the og upload I believe
BurntKrisp Yea I watched it when it first had the error lmao
@@rosedotmov what was the error
"Look at that title, 3 exclamation points" was a black screen
Aden There was just a black screen when something was supposed to show up there. It was when he was talking about the Japanese title of the game
