Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

I was fortunate to be a part of this magical time period. And having the best stereo system and speakers were so important, almost a measure of social status, because great music was simply That important. An essential priority.
The kegs of Heineken, candles lit, parents out for the night, and great friends all gathered, all school classmates, - we accomplished something very coo listening to Led Zepplin at these House Parties: we made the whole house shake, - or vibrate. A brick house with plaster walls and a sound system turned up to the max.
We laughed together, talked about interesting things, we read books and traveled, we went to movie theaters, and outdoor theaters, canoed, hiked and swam in days of freedom and happiness, - we lived a true life, magical. Talking about the new albums that came out, and going to these concerts were an integral part of our days. It was a period of innumerable great bands coming out, that has never been repeated and will never happen again.
And there were no Smart Phones, and not even cell phones yet. We spent real time together, and this music was a part of our everyday lives.
And this time period will be indelibly preserved by these brilliant concerts.
This is another outstanding concert by Led Zeppelin, that is absolutely exciting to watch.

This is perhaps the earliest complete professionally recorded live performance of Led Zeppelin in great quality. The concert happened on January 9, 1970. At the point when this concert took place, the group had no more than a year and few months of existence, since it was founded on the second half of 1968. There are very few live recordings of the group of their 68/69 era (aside from unofficial live “bootlegs”) and the only ones available are sourced from Radio or TV shows. As far as I know, prior to this recording, there are no more of its kind from the early days of Led Zeppelin.

@@louislaz Yes, I know it. The point is that this show was taped with 8 multitracks (which was the standard for professional studio recordings) and filmed with 16mm cinematic cameras; not so common traits for live recordings in those days. The Who’s Live at Leeds was recorded with the same technology aforementioned above, albeit with no video. The Denmark show was recorded using broadcast technology (mono audio and black/white picture), which was the standard for TV media back in those days. I’m not talking about the highlights of the performance, but the quality of the recording itself.

These four guys made something exceptional, incredible. They were just 4 young men, each of them was the best in his part of the band, who tried to create legendary music. They made it. Simply the best of the (hard) rock, emulated by so many other bands. But they are in the Olimpo of rock, at the first place.

The magic of Zeppelin can never be overstated. 2 session musicians who were making an absolute killing working on just about every great English rock record of the 1960's decide to start a band to finish out a contractual obligation for a Scandanavian tour with a band that's completely dissolved, get turned on to a complete nobody singer and drummer who have the literal talent of the rock gods, meet each other at Jimmy Page's house in a room which is cramped wall-to-wall with amplifiers, and from their very first get-together they hit a groove that produces some of the most remarkable achievements in rock in the ensuing decade, almost immediately becoming the biggest band of the 70's, retaining nearly complete creative control over their output, and laying the foundation for what nearly every rock band since has wanted to be. The amount of luck and coincidence which brought these four guys together and gave them the right circumstances to thrive beyond all imagination, breaking ticket sales and attendance records at their concerts that The Beatles themselves set, not to mention being worth every single penny to see them perform live. They're at the height of what a rock band can ever hope to become, and no shortage of destiny and fate and luck and above all magic played such a pivotal role in their legacy.

This song came out in October and this gig happened a couple months later in January. Can you imagine being there and hearing this song for the very first time? Id bet to a lot if not most of the people in the audience that this was the most heavy goddamn shit they had ever heard. Probably blew their minds.
