      DD DRUMS hey wanted to reply on this thread before I get attacked again by some YT troller haha
      But yeah I’ve been making a lot of progress, all Beats 1, 2, and 3 you showed have helped me a lot and thanks for breaking it down
      Don’t want ya to think I was being a smart ass about asking about d beat, when I heard Josie by Blink it kinda sounded like the D Beat pattern does so that’s why I asked
      Check out Discharge or Varukers (early UK hardcore punk bands) and Skitsystem (Swedish d beat punk)
      But yeah I practice your tutorial everyday so thanks again pal!!

      @@unknownanimation9904 good point. Although from a different perspective electric gives you more creative freedom. I love being able to connect mine right to midi and I have an unlimited number of sounds I can assign to each pad. I can also stay up all night playing while my gf is sleeping. But from a true drummer’s standpoint I fully agree with you. It feels so good to play an acoustic. Every drummer should experience it.

    I started learning to play like this by reversing my arms and legs in a sense. I started by playing 8th note beats leading with my hand on the high hat and 1/4 notes on the kick drum. Later i somehow figured out how to switch that and play 8th notes on the kick drum and 1/4 notes on the high hat. I think that's a good way to think about it. I believe that playing 1/4 notes on the high hat is the whole idea to achieve that punk speed. Its a way to play fast without killing your arm trying to play 8th notes at super high speed.

    How do you get such a punchy bass drum? I usually play jazz so I have my whole kit adjusted for it and I’m not sure what to do for the bass drum.

    • @rockyvsrambo82
      @rockyvsrambo82  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Bob...
      Hope your doin well man...
      Okay, here are some factors that I use to get a punchy bass drum sound...
      1) The skin I use is an Evans Emad 2...
      2) Tune it pretty deep. Not trying to tighten the bass skin much at all, rather keep it fairly loose... But still try and get each lug even tension. And enough tension that there are no 'wrinkles' in the skin.
      3) Put pillow in drum.
      4) When I mic up the bass drum drum, the mic is inside the drum close to and facing the point of attack.
      5) I play heel up, thus getting more volume and attack.
      6) Post recording, I use eq and compression on the bass drum too...
      Good Luck and Keep up the Great work Bob

    What could you do to building up speed on the last drum beat pattern?

    • @rockyvsrambo82
      @rockyvsrambo82  4 роки тому

      Hey there... I have a lesson that helps build technique, control and speed for the bass drum...
      ua-cam.com/video/19uvDUvCciE/v-deo.html
      Also, I would use the metronome on this beat... Start slowly... Spend 2-3 minutes on each tempo... Speed the tempo up 5-10 bpm... You will eventually reach a ceiling, where you cant go any faster as things start to fall apart... Practice a little slower than this tempo... Spend a fair bit of time there at this tempo... Eventually, your ceiling will get higher...

    I'm absolutely not a drummer. I have been playing for a couple of years because I love it and it allows me to do my own demos, but it definitely isn't my main instrument. I can play stuff that is way more complex (well nothing too great either :p) than that last punk rock beat. However, I have a hard time playing that specific beat at let's say 150 and just gradually augmenting the tempo is not really working. Would you have any advice whether it's on video form or just a message or whatever? I'd appreciate so much. Thanks for your videos!

    • @rockyvsrambo82
      @rockyvsrambo82  2 роки тому +1

      Its probably got to do with the bass drum technique... Practise your bass drum technique... I have done a video for this... ua-cam.com/video/19uvDUvCciE/v-deo.html
      All the best!

  • @Tilly1770
    @Tilly1770 2 роки тому

    I don’t understand how you make it faster, do you still do the 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and count just as fast as you can?

    • @rockyvsrambo82
      @rockyvsrambo82  2 роки тому

      Hello... The counting is something I would do when learning the beat and playing it slow... A bit like training wheels on a bike for beginners... But as your muscle memory kicks in you can let go of the counting... I especially like to use the metronome to keep track of the speed changes I am making. If I can do 80 bpm okay, next step will be 90 bpm, then 100, then 110 and so on. One mistake us drummers can make is to go from 80 to 180. Hope this helps.
