I'm not much of an alcohol guy so fireball is all I drink if I'm drinking lmao. Beer tastes like ass, vodka and tequila taste like ass, fireball tastes bad but everything else tastes like shit 🤣
This is the first time I've heard 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 notes explained in a way that makes sense to me. I recently found a small tom tom at goodwill, and i bought a snare from Ye Olde Amazon. I've been practicing paradiddles, then got side tracked when I heard some guest musicians come to my school and play djembes and tubanos. I put the drums aside for a bit to play around with some hand drums....I really have a focus problem. But anywho, thank you for helping me get this sorted in my head!
duuuuuuuuude i need more videos like this one BUT FROM YOU!!! since i discovered your channel i want to start drumming at my 40s!! is never too late to drum
I’m 51 never played the drums in my life, but always wanted to. He makes me want to play more and more. He is a great teacher. I’m going to buy one of the cheap electric kits and DO IT!
I really like this channel. I tap in everyday before I got to work, puts a smile on my face and I learn something too. I just want to share something with everyone. Trilok Gurtu - John McLaughlin - Kai Eckhardt Karpeh (1989) Yes, he's sitting on the floor.
Hi Samus, I absolutely love your videos and your channel I've been subscribed to your channel for four years now soon to be five years. The same goes for me being a drummer as well. As always keep grooving my dude, oh yuuuur 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🖤🖤🖤🖤
Thank you. My friend plays drums. This sounds really good immediately. I wish this was around when I was obsessing over bands. I learned guitar back then but this looks just as fun.
I use these beats a majority of the time and the best part about them is the versatility with these beats. You can easily make up your own fills, add extra notes to the beat, or if your feeling really saucy, add paradiddles to the disco flipped beat. I tell anyone looking to learn drums to master these beats first, as they are great openers to learning more advanced riffs, one must learn to walk before he can fly. 👍
(Required amount of Fireball consumed while learning drums may vary, drink responsibly.) As a drum instructor out here in the trenches, thanks for including notation and, most importantly, counting! I've done the research in lessons, everyone who counts has a higher success rate.
I love that, even though you're so skilled and at times snarky, you never talk down to the beginner/viewer--I felt super encouraged the whole time ☆ I've learned that first beat and am excited to try beats 2 and 3!
this reminds of the time when I played drums at school, I kept messing up. I kept hit the bass drum at the same time as someone was hitting the snare, believe it or not, my teacher kept calling me out in of the whole class... lol
I didn't have any lessons when I had my drum set and the first was super easy for me to pick up and picking up the double time on the high hat came just as quickly.
i had a resaultion. just started 4 weeks ago. i can do a paradiddle now... lol learning enter sandman. i want to do master of pupets but it's too fast.
This time it was a beginner's version, but intermediate level Please release video content for advanced users in the future. I don't mind the practice you've done to be as good as you are
Great lesson. One thing about the 'one-ee-and-da' 16th notes verbalization: For decades eight notes were taught '1 and 2 and 3 and 4' just like in this lesson. Sixteenth notes were taught simply by using the letters of the word AND - i.e 'one eh en dee, 2 eh end dee, etc. and written 1-a-n-d 2-a-n-d and so forth. Seems like about 15 years ago this 'ee-and-da' thing started and I think it's just a mistaken interpretation or '1-a-n-d'. Anyway, try it out - it makes sense, certainly when written and trying to explain to a kind.
To be honest, I have the dexterity of a ham sandwich, on fire. I'd love to be able to play the drums however I would undoubtedly sound something along the lines of someone falling down a flight of stairs, carrying approximately 100 rubber dog turds. I applaud anybody who manages to successfully play the drums, go forth fine fellows and make wonderful music. 😀
My first lesson from Gandolf and my drumming is pure wizardry...and I havent even had second breakfast yet. My new band, Blackened Shire, is playing at the Prancing Pony next Sæternesdæg. I hear theyre now serving pints and the wenches have arse for days.
When I was learning guitar from magazines… I didn’t like like counting #7 because sev-en (2 syllables unlike the other 7 counts).. so I would say it as “sept” As in the French 7 😅
im not a drummer, but I really want an acoustic set. where do I start? I like a lot of metal like Disturbed, Gojira, and Pantera, and I do want to get a double kick. I'm a bassist primarily, and I think that drums are my second favourite instrument. Thanks for everything you make my day 10 times better. Ohhh Yurrrr!!
I played drums a little bit. I’m definitely an extreme newbie. But for me, I have a hard time trying to play and count. Not for the simple beats like this but harder beats playing while counting is nearly impossible for me much better if I just play by ear/ feel the groove and I can stay in time better. Is that weird or is it because I played guitar for 25 years? And learned to play that myself by ear lol.
I want to see if you can do this on a practice pad: ⤵️ First play 16th Notes at 100BPM. Then play: Right Left Right. Right Left Right Right RightLeft. *Repeat* *Group of Three:* For this one, call in two fellow drummers, and the three of you can practice this on three practice pads. And now speed up the BPM 132BPM Left and Right drummers Mirror each other. Right Left Both. *Hit middle pad for both with both sticks* Right Left, Right Left. *Right Left drummer hits middle pad with their drumsticks individually on “Right Left”* *Repeat* Middle: Right Left Arms Up. Right Left, Right Left. *Repeat for 28 seconds* Finale: Left and Right hits both their drums and the middle drum three times. And the middle drummer hit his/her pad three times. On the last hit, all three drummers raise both arms up. Once you got this down, you can replace the practice pads with three 16” Floor Toms.
Hi, i started drumming around year ago and still dont have drum set (i played on buckets and finger drumming) do you think i can play metal on set witb 3 toms, 1 snare, 1 kick and 3 cymbals? (Alesis kit) or is there any cheap e-kits for metal?
Í've started drumming again after 20+ years and bought a Roland TD25. Any tips to get my left wrist a bit more loose so to speak ? My guess is rudiments till i get sick of them but maybe you got some other tips ?

I believe it's also known as a 4/4 common rock beat?
The fireball in the background is a staple in the drummers' community.
I don’t get it, fireball tast like and is weak as shit
just like my left foot 🥲@@deadpool102192
@@deadpool102192 Samus gauged how many shots of Fireball he can have before he can't play Painkiller. 22 shots.

You are an EXCELLENT teacher
I’ve been drumming for about a year but I still like to watch these types of videos to see if there is anything else I should learn.👍
I loved my drum teacher in the late 90s but imagine being young again now and learning from Samus 😅
Dude that snare reverb is sick AF! It reminds me of the reverb in No excuses by AIC✊️
Exactly what I was thinking!!!
Yeah that snare sound is amazing
Same though
As a non drummer, this is very helpful also for creating my own patterns on my computer.
Im a drummer. You have inspired me to learn so many new thing. Thank you Samus❤
I've been playing music since I was 14. Hearing 1-e-&-a still cracks me up a little bit even after 16 years, lol

This brought me back to middle school band, so simple and yet so beautiful.

I’ll always enjoy the jokey content he does but the educational/instructional stuff is just as great, definitely helpful to a lot of people
I learned the beats from the carmine appice book in the early 80’s. I met him at his clinic in 85.
You explain this so clearly Samus, I only wish I had a drum kit to try it out on!!

Great video! Can you make an easy guide on how to make snare and tom fills? An advanced version would be cool too. Thanks and keep up the good work! 🤘
Great intro video! The Melodics program looks pretty fun too! All of these are definitely wonderful beginner beats 🙂

Okay, but what about the 7 Eggs? You only mentioned them once in the whole tutorial. I went and got 7 eggs, but I don't know what to do with them.

Put a gated verb on the snare and its the snare sound from Dream Theater Awake
Love it great setup great sound and also awesome lesson can you do a cover of the way of the fist by ffdp
Clever of you to sneak the Ants Marching beat in there as a lil easter egg
must've been by accident hahaha
I see you drinking FIREBALL cause I see it behind you
Great intro video! Snare drum sounds nice. Does anyone know what brand it is?
another bit of topic just saw this search UA-cam Process of Making Drum Set From Used Goods
OHHHHH YUUUUUR
Live. Awesome. You know it sounds like Michael jacksons beat it.
MJ uses 8th note hihat pattern, not quarters.
That sounded like MJ Beat it, slowed down a bit. 16ths INXS - Need You Tonight ;D

I knew drums would be hard but now that I gotta learn how to count all the way to 4 I'm giving up.
you can play in 2/4 time and you’re set
Ohhh yuuurrrr
It put a smile on my face when Samus got excited about Tom Petty ❤
l wonder if every rock band drummer is doing the numbers, I am going think about forever now. I need a drumset.
thanks teacher samus😂😅
Not anyone, Samus.
I can't, for I don't have any drums.
My whole percussion section are my farts.
Guess I'm a bahee.
Funny how that is exactly the first thing I teach someone that asks me to teach them how to play.
I tried counting along, but for some reason I just kept counting 2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2
hahahaha
That’s the correct way to count
I want to see if you can do this on a practice pad: ⤵️
First play 16th Notes at 100BPM. Then play: Right Left Right. Right Left Right Right RightLeft.
*Repeat*
*Group of Three:*
For this one, call in two fellow drummers, and the three of you can practice this on three practice pads. And now speed up the BPM 132BPM
Left and Right drummers Mirror each other.
Right Left Both. *Hit middle pad for both with both sticks* Right Left, Right Left. *Right Left drummer hits middle pad with their drumsticks individually on “Right Left”*
*Repeat*
Middle: Right Left Arms Up. Right Left, Right Left.
*Repeat for 28 seconds*
Finale: Left and Right hits both their drums and the middle drum three times. And the middle drummer hit his/her pad three times. On the last hit, all three drummers raise both arms up. Once you got this down, you can replace the practice pads with three 16” Floor Toms.
Which alsis kit would you consider is the best for advanced drummers that need to play quietly because of neighbors? thanks
And a drummer was born...
I graduated, woo hop 🎉

All I can hear in your snare drum is "No Excuses" by AiC..... so I keep waiting for the complexity to start
