When I was an 8 year old kid living in Roanoke VA, Paul Jones was my favorite wrestler. The matches he had w/Black Jack Mulligan over the the U.S. Title were clasic.

He did very well for himself, whether as a Rule breaker, or as a Fan Favorite. That dreaded Claw was definitely something that you didn't want to get caught in. If you did, it was "Lights out"!

i am glad that the baron went back into the awa as a good guy towards the end of his career. I saw some good matches in person, and me and 2 of my friends even talked with baron a little outside the denver arena once. he was a nice guy, him and rick martel, where together both nice guys.

Notice that the Baron did wrestle outside the AWA and WWA during his illustrious career. In addition to the Mid-Atlantic, he wrestled in Georgia, the WWWF with Fred Blassie, and I believe St. Louis. He wrestled as the German Heavyweight Champion in the WWWF. I’m not sure whether he ever teamed with Baron Scicluna.

He made several tours of NWA's Central States as well - including one wild feud with Harley Race.

#1 Paul Jones was a very good worker. I believe he was better as a babyface than heel.He wrestled Dory Jr, Harley Race, Jack Brisco & Terry Funk when they were NWA World Champions. His best matches were vs Briscoe, they had many 60 min. broadways and a few 90 min. also. You have to a athelete and a very good worker to do long broadways. However IMO I thought Jones was a lousy manager. His promos were so-so. I have a ton of respect for #1 as a WRESTLER.

In 1979, a new pro wrestling publication hit newsstands and magazines racks across the nation. It was Pro Wrestling Illustrated. When the first issue went to press, Paul Jones was ranked at #3 in the Most Hated Wrestler category. He and Baron Von Raschke were also ranked at #2 in the Tag Team Rankings.

This is the year that I got my start, in watching Wrestling. The Mid-Atlantic area was definitely an exciting area of Wrestling to watch. The NWA was in full swing back then. Too bad that, by 2001, long after some of the area that had been under the NWA Banner, had been changed over to WCW, and then had gone out of business, having been bought by Mr. Greedy himself, Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

I respectfully disagree on Paul's work in the ring. He was certainly better than "ok". And while his managerial interviews were not good, his stuff with the Baron was classic.

    • @franksullivan7110

Chris Bryant yeah from the Mid Atlantic stuff I seen od Paul Jones on you tube from the 70s I didn't think he was too bad as a wrestler. Didn't Paul Jones have some good feuds with Rick Steamboat? They were a few of the top guys for Crockett back then. I discovered Mid Atlantic Wrestleimg in 84 when I found it on a station in Philadelphia. I enjoyed it so much and thought Paul Jones was pretty good. I won't say he was a Bobby Heenan but he entertained me and I thought he held his own and entertained me. PIP WEASEL number 2 number 1

I think it was Raschke, he took a head of cabbage and ran it back and forth on chain link during a promo saying he was going to make slaw out of his opponent
What fire does not destroy it hardens, that's a nice little bit.

Paul Jones had a successful career in the NWA. But I'm not quite sure why. He was only an ok worker in the ring. He wasn't the most athletic man to look at. And he was awful on the mic. I'll give him credit for one thing, he definantly made the most of the limited ability that he had.
