- NWA World Wide Wrestling 1979 1/5
From a 1979 episode of NWA World Wide Wrestling from WRAL-TV Studios in Raleigh, NC. Rich Landrum is the host:
A brief interview with NWA World Tag Team Champions, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka and Paul Orndorff. - Спорт
The most popular line in wrestling history: "Let me tell you something, brother."
Rumor has it that after 10 years, Hogan's brother is still waiting for the Hulkster to tell him.
Rest In Peace Mr Wonderful Paul Orndorff, he passed away this morning.
Paul Orndorff and Jimmy Snuka partners? I never knew that. UA-cam keeps churning up more and more surprises.
Did you know Jimmy beat his girlfriend to death in a motel room and went to work like nothing happened
Mid Atlantic was the best bar none back in that era
They were a great tag team! If memory serves they lost the belts to Baron Von Raschky and Paul Jones, and in losing they lost it and beat the hell out of Jones and the Baron.
As a young wrestling fan, I just discovered that this tag team existed. 2 of my favorites of all time. I need to see them in a match.
Wow, two of my favorites before the juice.
Notice how back then the best promos were almost always cut by the heels? You sympathized with the babyface, and at the same time the heels were what you wanted to be, but you hated them because you weren't like them. The greatness that is PRO WRESTLING
LOVE THESE PROMOS!!! The greatest memories of my childhood took place right there in the WRAL studios attending the tv tapings *sigh*
Wow, Orndorff all nice and proper and Snuka actually made some sense :)
Yeah Paul is laid back here what happened in the 80s
HAHA
@@dailmcdavid5883 Cocaine happened...
That's before the coconut to the head I believe.
Weird seeing Paul so proper and polite knowing what he’d become as Mr. Wonderful and flying of the hingeless whenever somebody called him ‘Paula’. Lol! Snuka and Paul were physical marvels and unequaled in ring talent
Met Snuka during a photo signing gig just out of Sacramento. Nicest guy, wanted to know about us and what kind of wrestling we (my brother and I) liked. Just a genuine nice guy. You’d never even think he was a murderer 🤷♂️
I think he was set up by the System
Orndorff and Snuka were a great team. The Crocketts signed so much talent.
Kudos to whoever designed Orndorff's wrasslin' tights. VERY creative!
Wow! I've NEVER seen this!!! Incredible! These 2 had a Tag Team title!! Unbelievable!
Wow i remember this. Funny how the announcer sound like he said Superfly Paul Orndorff. It has a nice ring to it. Jimmy Snuka wow RIP
Before his WWF debut, Orndorff wrestled as a face in the NWA and Georgia Championship Wrestling.
Hard to believe six years later these two would be on the opposite side of the ring in the WWE(F)…
I remember this like a hour ago just saying lol man what good old days
just saying.
6 years later.. they both headlined WrestleMania...
wow.. classic... thanks 4 uploadin this...
It wasn’t just Orndorff and Snuka who took a lot more steroids than they were using here, wrestling belts would juice up too.
Its obvious here they didn't starting juicing until the middle 1980s
@@KA-te7xk WOW....not to bright eh? haha. You don't think Snuka was using in 79? You think he did his bodybuilding shows clean? You think PAUL ORNDORFF wasn't using here? YIKES... you're one of those armchair pundits who hasn't worked out or done anything athletic in your life, and you think because they don't look as ripped or quite as big here, they're not using haha! Sad.
@@smartasianfriend9940 lol. You beat me to it. He also thinks you can tell by just looking! Like when McEnroe or stick man petr Korda were using? Been lots of the smaller guys in wrestling using to… different steroids, different genetics, different training affects the guys very differently. Now granted, orndorff and Snuka were no lance Armstrong size here… rofl!
@@datacipher steroids?? What steroids? (Patera was honest and openly admitted using them in the Olympics after seeing what the Russians were doing)

Snuka sounds like Eli Wallach as Tuco, from The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.
He should have said...Heeeyyyy Blooondie....yooooouuuu know know what you are...just a dirty son of a ahhahhhahhhhhh
Wrestling Legends
Snuka looks so small here compared to what he would look like later.
Growing up in Chester County PA, we had no cable TV. The only wrestling we had was WWWF,.
THANKS
AWESOME THANKS
Yep. And as unimpressive as they were during promos, they really were quite a really solid tag team.
Age of legends
love it
Snuka said the line that Hulk Hogan made famous when talking to Mean Gene Okerlund, "Well let me tell you something brother"
RIP SUPERFLY!!!!!
Superfly and Mr Wonderful 2 OGs
Sunka was never the same after Piper clocked him with that coconut...
The atmosphere sounds like a lunch cafeteria.
@BlackDynamiteNYC this was during a time before wrestlers were truly polished when it came to the interview. Sure there were some naturals at shit talking but as the mid 80's and 90s rolled around, mic skills became just as important as ring presence and thats when wrestlers really started honing their verbal arsenal.
The humble Paul Orndorff???
Classic babyface promo love it
When billy d williams wasnt doing movies he was interviewing wrestling
when are people going to realize that the Vince McMahon wasn't the see all and be all of wrestling until the mid to later 80's. Wrestlers moved around and did tours of the WWF but it was the NWA that had the most talent...ummmm one reason why Ole is pissed with Vince Jr is because they sent Georgia wrestlers to the WWF to keep them afloat from time to time. Promoters let wrestlers be more of a free agent. Sure some areas had guys that stayed in that one area but talent moved around. At one time Dusty Rhodes was working WWF...NWA...and AWA all at once. The territory system was better for keeping things more interesting and things from getting stale...now....well if you want a hamburger you can only go to McMahon's....(add canned laughter here)...LOL
MrDock i couldn't agree with you more on that.
MrDock very very well said bro. I stop watching wrestling now . Only youtub old maches.
Vince Jr. ruined wrestling for everyone but himself by destroying the territories and Kayfabe.
Love Snuka's Pork Chop Bones Necklace
Superfly ! You will be missed .
Before they both started cycling.
I thought that was Mean Gene at first! 😂
Whaaaaa......Paul Orndorff a face?
Never knew,,,,
Jimmy Snuka & Paul Orndorff before they roided up to the gills in the wwf 1984-85
love the comments
Mean Gene was in the AWA at the time
I think Snuka is wearing a swimsuit because I had one of those striped ones when I was a kid back in the 70s.
Best part of the video starts at :50 when Paul Orndorff rubs his leg and then tries to sneak in a wedgie pick. We saw you though, Paul! :)
😊
Well you know something Mean Gene had hair! I did not know that!
Mean Gene was in the AWA at the time. He was bald already.
Is that Mean Gene Okerland?
Interviewer was Rich Landrum.
night worrier your comments made me laugh the hardest in iam still laughing
Yea they were rewarded with 5x the money and fame
Sooooo green.
when Mean Gene had more hair & height...........
that it not mean gene
his name is rich landrum
The ignorance of some of the commenters here is amazing. Must be teenagers who know nothing but WWE and nothing about good wrestling.
Lol couldn't agree with you more. These punk kids missed out when it was WORTH watching wrestling not like the circus it has become now
Snuka off cycle
I was not born in 1979
@BlackDynamiteNYC Totally agree. Flair, Piper and definitely Dusty Rhodes. I grew up in Greenville, SC the heart of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling as a kid in the 80s and wouldn't take anything for it. Every Monday night me and my dad would go to the matches. I only knew of WWF happenings from Pro Wrestling Illustrated. I don't recall any WWF wrestlers with great mic skills during that time, only the managers, i.e. Blassie, Albano, Grand Wizard, etc.
Peter Maivia jumps to mind. "The Rock's" Grandfather gave him quite a verbal legacy. "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd and Dusty Rhodes both appeared in the Northeast from time to time. As did Bostonian Kevin Sullivan. Larry Zbyszko once he betrayed the most popular and accomplished guy the company had known before some guy from Venice Beach.😏💪 And the now late great "Superstar" Billy Graham who was very influential and as adept on a live Mic as his Manager Ernie "The Grand Wizard" Roth.🤔😉🎤💪🤼♂️B.W.
omg!!!!!! mean gene had hair!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!
That's not Mean Gene dumbass
and both would eventually move onto the WWF where they would both spend several of their best years, and were rewarded by not winning...... a... single...WWF...belt.........
But they got sweet payoffs
Are those toy belts?
I don't know if Paul ever did steroids, but this certainly looks like Jimmy pre-roids
This is when wrestling was wrestling. now it crap
So damn obvious they both didn't start juicing hard until they got to the WWF..
Snuka before 'roids
4 years before Jimmy beat his girlfriend to death in a motel room in Allentown pa and went to work like nothing happened
DOA your are absolutely right Vince is just as big of an asshole and just as guilty
This promo was straight and simple, no music, non scripted by professional writers, and short and sweet. But nonetheless, I love the hell out of this, oh, if only we could bring back these days. Mcmahon sucks for how he destroyed wrestling.
I feel sorry for Paul orndorf guys (snuka) horrible on the mic
this might be when vince sent few guys to wrestle in nwa.
So Snuka was always incoherent
Before steroids
Mean Gene with hair
