Great ring psychology! Had the people in the palm of their hands…literally, lol. Listen that crowd go crazy and they only did 2 moves…and not 1 of em was a crazy backflip to 5.guys standing around outside the ring! 😉
These bring back great memories. It's to bad there isn't any footage of when Blackjack turned face. The incident involving Blackjack's 10 gallon hat and Ric Flairs $10,000 robe.
The Baron was a legit wrestler who successfully wrestled in the NCAA and at the World Games. Today's WWE acrobats (aka superstars) would be taken to the woodshed by Raschke in a shoot.
His son Karl was on my kid brother's 7th grade basketball team in Prior Lake, MN. I met The Baron at a couple of the games. He's super polite, very well spoken. Just a really nice guy.
elc1960 Well put!!! Not only that, but I suddenly remembered reading somewhere online ( sorry, I wish I could remember where..) where Raschke was interviewed a few years ago. One of the Interview questions - and responses - is still firmly etched in my mind: Q: What do you think of the the professional wrestling of nowadays [ 2000s ] A [Raschke]: YUCK!
Had this match taken place anytime post - kayfabe era, both men would have left the building with legitimate & possibly permanent knee, back, and neck injuries due to the high spots expected by wrestling bookers & fans today.
I saw this match at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton Virginia back in I believe 1978 or 1979 which the co-feature main event being Paul Jones Vs. Greg Valentine for the T.V. Title. It was promoted as a claw vs. claw match. I am not sure if this particular match is the exact one as I am sure they did matches together all over the region as there was a bounty on Mulligans head by Ric Flair during the famous hat & robe angle which was awesome.
Modern wrestling fans would call this boring . . . more's the pity. This is how you build the excitement in a match, old school style. Not one high spot followed by another and then another, or by heavily scripted promos full of catch phrases. You build through anticipation. Von Raschke wasn't ripped and didn't fly like a bird, but he knew how to use his abilities properly, and to use psychology. When Von Raschke posted Mulligan, the crowd was ready to tear the Baron apart.
Oh, my God, this is NAUSEATING... this makes me SO uncomfortable- but this was when wrestling was worth the electricity. And BLACKJACK got it! Either way it went, there was some SERIOUS suffering.
Victory ✌ and winner 🏆 Wow! What a win 🏆 👏 🙌 👌 Now, teach other wrestlers what to do, let BVR lose all the matches. I am very, very happy for you. 👍🕺😅🌟💛⚘🥳I hope he will be a LOSER from now on.👎👎😁😆😀
No apologies necessary, we just appreciate the footage that you graciously share with us
I see Tommy Young was the referee for this match between Blackjack Mulligan & Baron Von Raschke
Man, did Raschke have great facial expressions. Today's fans would find this dull, but these are two masters of ring psychology.
No worries on the video stamp, I appreciate the time you put into these vids and I know other old-school fans here do, too!

That and Ricky Steamboat knocking out Ric Flair on the interview area.
The ref sorta looks like one of the Von Erich boys. Could it be they brought in a claw expert for this claw vs. claw match?
That’s Tommy Young ..... the main NWA referee in the Kid Atlantic area at the time
THAT'S how you work a crowd!!!
The Baron could bring the heat as the crowd looked ready to rush the ring at the end.Great heel.

yep, i forget his real name but the guy can wrestle gonna have to look through my magazines and find the articles with him in it.

Mulligan was a babyface????? I didn't realize it throughout the video, but I found myself rooting for him about half way though.
Well done!!!!

Listen to that crowd. You never hear a genuine pop from a WWE crowd like that.
They were all stupid back then and thought it was real.
Couple in background at 3:39 : worst first date ever...
That, my friends, is what you call "heat"!
No steroids here. I grew up on the generation before this but its still a very good match.
Come on Mulligan, power and strength 💪 🙏 don't give in, come on.

Check out the Baron's Christmas special. It's available on UA-cam. Simply awesome.
Great claw holds
Is Blackjack Mulligan still living? I know Baron Von Raschke is still living
No.

What city was this?
Raschke was the claw king
Fritz von erich
No way
Two legends :-)
Damn u can put the claw hold on at the same time ! Who would have thought about it ?
The claw, the claw
70 's & 80's was more graphic & realer now it's soft & boring
5 minutes on one hold!
BVR, should not be allowed to wrestle, he is dangerous or what techniques he uses, should be stopped.
Oh, my God, this is NAUSEATING... this makes me SO uncomfortable- but this was when wrestling was worth the electricity. And BLACKJACK got it! Either way it went, there was some SERIOUS suffering.
The fan noise is canned. Nobody is moving or saying anything in the crowd.
YOWIE WOWIE
The ref is cute AF
That was b.s. windhams claw over the barons? GTFOH
NOBODY can win against the claw! Once the CLAW is used, it's ALL OVER! You can't stop THE CLAW. Don't even try!
Baron was better
