I'm 51 years old and I've been a musician for 38years now. IMO this version of Sound of Silence is probably the most powerful song that I've ever experienced. Even after hearing this version hundreds of times over the past several years I feel the emotional power and connection of it every single time.
In watching the video, their cover and images seem to center upon music. Do you feel from your perspective as a professional musician that they ('Disturbed' and perhaps Paul Simon) are saying something specific about the music industry itself? Or is music simply a metaphor?
@@rc3394Don't blame UA-cam, it's the people or the corporations that own the copyrights that force UA-cam to block certain videos. Some copyright holders don't mind others using their content and some even encourages it while others won't allow it, even if it's broken up with pauses. What I've noticed is most musical artists that own their own content usually don't mind it and it's mainly when big corporations own the content that they don't allow it.
These lyrics has been waiting for 51 years to find a voice that could give it true meaning... This is it🙏 This version has become very important to me in the world we live in today...
Experienced. That is the only word to describe hearing this song. You don’t “listen” to it. You don’t dance to it. You EXPERIENCE it. S&G gave us the poetry, David Draiman gave us the warning
Yes!! It is an experience. I differ slightly in the last part, in that, S&G gave us the warning, and David is now scolding us for not heading S&G's original warning. One last chance, basically. But of course, just my opinion. Most powerful song/message/experience combo I've ever come across.
I'm 68, my niece is 37. We both LOVE this incredibly moving version of the song. The lead's amazing range and interpretation of the lyrics makes me play it over & over.....
David Draiman...one of the best male vocalist's on the planet! Can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor to awesome rasp and grit and back again on a dime!! Amazing voice control and so soulful and powerful ! His range is also to die for! He's got it ALL !!
Still the best cover I've ever heard. I love watching the reactions to this song. It's brilliant to see their faces when the line "And the people bowed and prayed" comes is priceless. Thank you also for not pausing the song.
I was riveted by his face. He was clearly gripped by something powerful. You know when someone is completely absorbed in something because the tongue starts to wonder. But seriously I watched his face especially his eyes as much as listened.
Your expression strait off, the look in your eyes proved to me you’d never heard this version of this song. Pretty damned excellent wasn’t it? David’s voice is SO underrated and deserves to be commended!
I first heard this when I was hard at work, and it came over the radio in the back-round. i am tone deaf, and cant sing a note, but I know, and appreciate people who can SING. Only wish I was graced with that gift. When I heard it, I stopped in my tracks. The hairs on my neck bristled, and my heart missed a beat or two. My soul was opened bare. It was like I was being admonished by an Angel. One of the most beautiful and meaningful songs I had ever heard. To me that is, but that's what its all about, isn't it?
If you liked it, you should definitely react to their live version from the Conan O'Brien show. Despite being sick that day, lead singer David Draiman delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. Conan celebrated the video of their performance as it was the first video from his show to get 100 million views.
Great reaction, once again! Best comment I've read about this version of the song was that Simon & Garfunkel gave the warning of where our society was going, and Disturbed's version was anger that we've ignored that warning...I quite literally grew up with the original song, and loved it, but, always felt - like many others - that the music was almost "too soft" for those amazing lyrics. Disturbed's version - and David Draiman's incredible voice! - had as much power as the lyrics...and, this is now my favorite version of the song.
Yes, your response was mine --- 100%...I just heard this song for the first time last week, and I'm obsessed. I can't stop listening to it, singing it, and watching reaction videos to it. Amazing. I knew the original S&G version, and it was good, but this one is GREAT. Perfection. Inspiring. Yes.
Everything about this song moves me. The instruments building up in intensity, the visuals of the storyline, even the play of light on David Draiman's face draw your attention to the brilliant lyrics written by Paul Simon. David Draiman's vocal performance was nothing short of brilliant. The way he interpreted the song and his vocal capabilities seals the performance. It is like listening to an angel and a demon contemporaneously. It's become of my favourite songs.
I've heard this song many, many times and cried each time. To me, the most beautiful part is the very end. The boat of people crossing the water to rescue the silent ones is absolutely bone-chilling. It says "Hope" in a way my very soul hears. David, you must have heard this a million times, but thank you. I have a place to go now when the world is too broken for me to bear.
If you want inspirational and emotional, listen to Hold on to your memories by disturbed. I am a terminal patient and chose this for my funeral...it is surreal to plan your own...
David has such a powerful voice. Trained as a cantor, he’s got such a clear, beautiful tone that is such a complement to the grit and growl in the harder edges.
I have ALWAYS loved this song, but I always felt that, given the message, it lacked gravitas - and David KILLED THIS! Even Paul Simon said that this song basically belonged to Disturbed now. No better compliment. First time to your channel - great reaction, my friend. I WILL be back!
Paul Simon never said that. It's an internet myth circulating UA-cam comments. All Paul Simon said is that he enjoyed the performance. You are conflating it with Hurt by Johnny Cash in which the original singer did say that to him.
Loved your reaction! Middle aged woman here closer to 60 than 50. Grew up loving S&G but also fell in love with this version and then went down a Disturbed trip. I've never been into heavy metal, but I now have a number of their songs on my playlist. You must hear "Down With the Sickness" since that is Disturbed's signature song. I went through a depressed period and would play "The Light" on loop sobbing as I drove to work each day, with hope I would get back to light eventually. I did and then looped Are You Ready (Sam de Jong Remix) as I found my strength again. There are some who argue over the Sound of Silence versions by Simon and Garfunkel, Disturbed and Pentatonix. I love them all for difference reasons and moods.
When the original artists give praise to your version and they tell you it moved them, that's a good cover. This song, despite being out in this form long before the current events, really fits and is truly a moving masterpiece. Not a fan of the original and was hesitant to listen to this one but am glad I did and have hundreds of times since and still feel an emotional, visceral response every single time.
I salute you for doing a reaction video in the correct way. Too many reaction videos think that they need to pause and give idiotic comments. I've seen other reactions to this video that were paused so they could make stupid comments about his facial expressions, piercings, and such. Breaking the flow of the song because reactionaries believe they need to interject pisses me off. You, my friend- have the correct approach: let the song play, and the look on your face says a thousand words. Bravo!
Did you notice on the ending that the boat was full of instruments going to the people with the music on the land. Such deep meaning there. No one does this song better than David. Chills every time I hear it. I loved your reaction and like others, thank you for not pausing!! If you are not familiar with Disturbed, listen to Down with the Sickness, totally different sound.
Yes I saw it. People typically close their eyes at this point because of the crescendo of the music but to me, this is the most important part. They bring hope, joy and music to the world of Silence. Awesome.
Disturbed is a truly great band ,many of their songs deal with depression , addiction and loosing those around us . David's voice brings the anger of things being over looked.......please try Into the Fire.....just know some of their videos bring a lot of feelings.
It’s hard to explain why this song gets to you,, isn’t it? But it does, it really does. I’ve watched the original and Conan versions over 100 times, and I still get goosebumps and chills every time. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Loved your reaction to this song. I must have watched just about every reaction video to this song. You are in my top five. One you did not pause, listening in one go is a must to get to get the full feeling of it. I watch faces, the omg that's a deep voice, to the omg of the ending and all the reactions I between. will definitely be watching more of you in the future.
A really good Disturbed song is Hold on to the Memories! It’s about Dia de los Muertos...as long as your loved ones are remembered, their souls remain intact in the afterlife. It’s so well done, I know you would love it. It’s more like this song you just reviewed, not so heavy metal like the majority of their catalog.
How absolutely perfect for you to be silent through the Sound of Silence. So much you said silently with your reactions. It takes a rather gallant character to see another. Very beautiful! 😊 Thank you Nigel.
What I love about this whole thing is how it all stacks. For example, at the beginning of the song he mentions 10,000 people maybe more. People talking without speaking. People hearing without listening. If you want to take this literal, it's talks about everything from politics to the way we are on social media. We throw out opinions but we don't state what we mean anymore. We just keep throwing out facts real quick and fast, but we no longer take the time to actually enunciate what are actual thoughts are. We tell people we hear them but we don't really take anything in. Honestly in this video, The sound of silence probably isn't quiet it's probably just noise. As the video goes on as they pick up each instrument you hear the instrument come into the song. And it's like actual music piercing through the noise something worth hearing as opposed to just 10,000 people speaking but not saying anything.
I agree. Those are, maybe, my favorite lyrics. I'm more towards the almost literal meaning of them. That we speak with no real meaning behind what we say, almost like we blurt out whatever is in our minds at the time, but we don't TALK about what we should be, and we almost 'pretend' to listen to other people, just waiting for our turn to speak again. We TALK, but we don't SPEAK. We HEAR, others are talking but we don't LISTEN to what they're saying. We could also argue 'the neon gods we made' as talking about our phones. We basically can't exist without them anymore. (Nothing against tech, by the way. It just seems to control us at this point.) I know this song came out before cellphones were a thing, but SO much of this song translates almost PERFECTLY to modern times.
That is my #1 of Disturbed. My other 2 is Prayer and The Light. When I first heard "The Sound Of Silence" I got choked up because it was when I was going through a hard time. I am so so so happy you did a reaction to this!! This is why you are my favorite reactor. ❤❤❤❤❤
For a Disturbed song that really got me, Reason to Fight. Saw it live and DAMN. I never thought a metal concert would make me cry, but they found a way!
Love how you reacted to this masterpiece. No stopping, just your expressions. This song condemns out times, the neon God we created are the phones, the social media, we don't talk anymore. We don't listen anymore. The funny thing is that the song was written by Simon in the 60's. Thank you for your respect.
Watching the emotions on ur face was unbelievable while song is being played. Iv listened to this song hundreds of times and never get sick of listening to it.
Best cover of any song ever. And there have been many. People get so emotional when they first hear it. I get emotional after my 10,000th listen. The best.
my reaction was the same as yours, this song is so full of emotion, after hearing disturbed sound of silence i am a fan of all of their music, David Draiman is my all time favorite singer, x
So glad you reacted to this--I grew up listening to (and loving) the original version. Then I heard this version, and was blown away. Then I heard PTX and loved that version too. All different, but so very powerful. Disturbed sang this song live on Conan's show; you should check it out, either as a reaction or at least privately--they are incredible live: ua-cam.com/video/Bk7RVw3I8eg/v-deo.html. Thanks again--your reactions brighten my day xoxo
Watching people react to this song has become a hobby of mine. Doesn't matter if it's the official music video or the live on Conan. I will say watching you react to the various parts of the song was great and really displayed your emotion to the emotion in the song. Great video.
Disturbed nailed this one, check their remake of If I ever lose my faith in you, The Light is harder rock but inspirational, Hold onto memories and A Reason to Fight, all excellent.
This is probably my favorite cover ever 🖤 This is far removed from their usual sound. If you want to check out their most popular song it’s probably Down With the Sickness. They also do a wonderful cover of Sting’s If I Ever Lose My Faith In You. If you can, could you please react to Falling In Reverse - Popular Monster? 🖤
The visual video is amazing. All the instruments are are one side and the sheet music is on the other side. Music unites us we can all relate through it
Your facial reactions say it all !!! This is an amazing cover of a brilliant song, 1st done by Simon & Garfunkel warning us, if we don't change our ways we are headed for destruction, and Disturbs version is angry, because we didn’t listen to the warnings... 😌 I always feel this song is like a rollercoaster ride, slowly brings you to the top, then crashing to the bottom.....Great reaction, & I still get goosebumps, & I have listened to this song, at least a hundred times!!!
Awesome reaction. As a Disturbed fan long before they did this cover, I knew David would knock it out of the park, but I had my jaw on the floor like you did when I listened the first time. Listen to Down With the Sickness (must chose the explicit lyric version) and you would never guess the same group. Again, fantastic reaction.
Every time I listen to this song it makes me cry. David's voice takes you on a journey throughout this song. If you're on a cover kick, might I suggest Paranoid by Type O Negative, and In The Air Tonight by In This Moment.
Seconding Type O Negative's cover of Paranoid. Peter Steele's voice just shapes it perfectly. It's like not even the same song when you compare it to the original Black Sabbath's!
@@gloria7324 The first time I heard it I didn't even realize it was a cover. Then I was like, wait a minute, that sounds familiar lol. With his voice and the slowed tempo it completely changes the mood of the song. Definitely one of my faves.
@@RoseRed77 Exactly! It had been a while since I'd heard the original so when I listened to it then saw the word "cover" on the title, I was like "Sabbath who??" Completely different feel and honestly probably my favorite version now.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your facial expressions during your reaction to the song. I am sure you had goosebumps at some point. It is an amazing cover. It is my favourite song of all time... this rendition to me is better than the original.
Seeing your genuine reaction is exactly why I watch these reaction videos! To see someone feel the way I did when I first heard them. Since I can never hear it again for the first time I live vicariously through reactions… thank you!

It’s hard to explain why this song gets to you,, isn’t it? But it does, it really does. I’ve watched the original and Conan versions over 100 times, and I still get goosebumps and chills every time. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
POWERFUL!!!
Every time I hear this edition of Sound of Silence I am completely surrounded by the voice of David!
That we speak with no real meaning behind what we say, almost like we blurt out whatever is in our minds at the time, but we don't TALK about what we should be,
and we almost 'pretend' to listen to other people, just waiting for our turn to speak again.
We TALK, but we don't SPEAK.
We HEAR, others are talking but we don't LISTEN to what they're saying.
We could also argue 'the neon gods we made' as talking about our phones. We basically can't exist without them anymore. (Nothing against tech, by the way. It just seems to control us at this point.)
I know this song came out before cellphones were a thing, but SO much of this song translates almost PERFECTLY to modern times.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is my #1 of Disturbed. My other 2 is Prayer and The Light. When I first heard "The Sound Of Silence" I got choked up because it was when I was going through a hard time. I am so so so happy you did a reaction to this!! This is why you are my favorite reactor. ❤❤❤❤❤
I hope you are doing better. Use your gifts. Know that you were made well, that you are Loved. Go forth, and be mighty. And tip your servers.
Thank you for your respect.
ty for watching!
The Light by Disturbed with the official video fills your heart.
You just don't do a bad reaction, do ya? I love your courage, emotions and honesty, things 2020 has sucked out of the world, it seems. Love to ya!
so sweet to read, thanks for watching this with me :)
Man! It was the best reaction on any song ever! We can feel your emotion! I got goosebump!
Watching the emotions on ur face was unbelievable while song is being played. Iv listened to this song hundreds of times and never get sick of listening to it.
ty for watching with me!
Best reaction yet! Thanks for not pausing this masterpiece!
Epic reaction! Watched hundreds by now but still get goosebumps every single time!
thanks so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed!
Thank you for not pausing! I absolutely love this version.
Thanks again--your reactions brighten my day xoxo
awe thank you for sharing this and for watching!!
The moment you hear this version you are entranced from the 1st key to the last and not once but everytime you hear it. Wow love it.
thank you for watching with me!
Music unites us we can all relate through it
thanks so much for watching with me!
Your face went from "wow this guy can really sing" to "I just saw the face of God". pretty amazing to watch.
YUP!
Amazing how your eyes got so huge when you listened to this song! It's my favorite songs of all time.
thanks so much for watching with me!
David Draiman sings this song on the Conan O'Brien Show. You have to check it out. He was sick with the flu, but he SO nailed it!
@@RissaFirecat its posted on my channel❤️❤️
Your facial reactions say it all !!! This is an amazing cover of a brilliant song, 1st done by Simon & Garfunkel warning us, if we don't change our ways we are headed for destruction, and Disturbs version is angry, because we didn’t listen to the warnings... 😌 I always feel this song is like a rollercoaster ride, slowly brings you to the top, then crashing to the bottom.....Great reaction, & I still get goosebumps, & I have listened to this song, at least a hundred times!!!
It's also talking about the political happenings in their day... segregation, marches and demonstrations
Every time you closed your eyes, you had a change of expression that was almost angelic. This was first time I"ve seen this video. Wow!
Awesome reaction. As a Disturbed fan long before they did this cover, I knew David would knock it out of the park, but I had my jaw on the floor like you did when I listened the first time. Listen to Down With the Sickness (must chose the explicit lyric version) and you would never guess the same group. Again, fantastic reaction.
thank you for watching with me!
I am wiping tears. Thank you.
I SO thought you were gonna cry!! IF you love this one you HAVE to see the live version on the Conan show!!!🌟💝💋✌
This song has been at the top of my play list for four years how , don't think its going anywhere soon !
David's voice is epic !
Every time I listen to this song it makes me cry. David's voice takes you on a journey throughout this song. If you're on a cover kick, might I suggest Paranoid by Type O Negative, and In The Air Tonight by In This Moment.
can't wait to hear these!! thanks so much for watching with me!
That's how you listen to and experience a song!
thanks for watching with me!! ❤️❤️
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your facial expressions during your reaction to the song. I am sure you had goosebumps at some point. It is an amazing cover. It is my favourite song of all time... this rendition to me is better than the original.
I heard it back in 2017/18 I was mind blown. Every time I hear it blows me away. So so powerful
Thanks so much for watching with me!
Seeing your genuine reaction is exactly why I watch these reaction videos! To see someone feel the way I did when I first heard them. Since I can never hear it again for the first time I live vicariously through reactions… thank you!

New subscriber here. Great reaction! Love this song.
Curious if you have done, or will check out some Pentatonix stuff. They will amaze you. Hallelujah and their Daft Punk Medley are a couple of my favorites.
Absolutely love him and his voice is amazing. A
very meaningful song with a singer who will bring tears to your eyes. He gave me chills!
First off...only posting when you’re cute? Ahh, so THATS why you post every day 😏😝
David’s voice has been so underrated until this came out. Super happy he’s being appreciated now, especially as his sound has matured over the years.
Never stop feeling music the way you do. It’s heartwarming and touching, and makes me feel a little less alone, crying my damn eyes out at shit like this 😬😂
JUST realized; have a feeling you’d absolutely LOVE Corey Taylor - Snuff. There’s an acoustic video that’s a pretty popular reaction these days. But mostly: the song will mother. Fucking. SPEAK to you.
ooo cant wait to hear cory!! lol sometimes I feel cute on the inside only so I post lol I’m so glad you feel music the way I do too, Its hella comforting to me too!!
It’s hard to describe exactly how I felt the first time I heard this song. I was captivated from the first note and could only sit in stunned silence.
thanks so much for watching with me!
Please check out A reason to fight by disturbed! It’s also emotional and beautiful
omg cant wait!!
just watching your facial reaction was worth the time!
The live version on the Conan show is even better! Check it out
I love.watching people have a physical reaction to this song. I have seen it 100s of times. It still makes my heart beat harder. Gives me goose bumps and I seem to always have my hand on my heart at the end....
