I love your 50’s housewife videos! I never understand why people look down on the role of a housewife as degrading. You gave us a great perspective on life back then. It takes a lot of work to keep a household together and stay at home wives/mothers have so much responsibility! I’m a full-time working wife/mother and I honestly think my days off at home with the kids are even harder than my days at work.

My husband runs a business and he has to take over on days when I have had seizures or get sick and he told me he didn't know how much it took to actually do what I do to run the house and that he would help out more. And he has since he told me that 🥰

I love the 1950's as well and I too don't understand why women look down on the role of a housewife. I would love to go back in time and live that life again. I think it was such a beautiful time. I am a housewife now & I love what I do by taking care of my kids and husband and my dogs. I think of myself as a regular Donna Reed. :) Thank you Sage for your awesome videos I love them all. :). ox

Oh Sage. Please don’t listen to that woman who made a comment about being a stay at home mother or wife or woman. Those types of comments come from women who do not understand what the women’s movement was all about and they’ve added an extra rule. The women’s movement was just about choice. A choice whether we wanted to stay at home or go out and getting a paid job. We have that choice now. I love being at home and cooking and cleaning. I love it!And nobody has the right to tell me that my choice is wrong. That just makes them wrong. I love your channel and what you were doing to bring back femininity.

There have always been people that didn't want children, women now just have more of a choice about whether they have them or not. It's far better now where only people who want to have children have them. The choice really has nothing to do with anyone else and how they feel about it.

I know this is an old video, but like many, I’ve been binge-watching your channel recently after having a 2yo need a hospital stay and being pinned down while she slept. Thank you for doing “day” and “week in the life” type videos. My grandmother was a post-war bride, and she always said her stay-at-home days raising kids were her happiest. (She worked and was single during the war). So many women DID find fulfillment at home and wouldn’t have chosen it any other way. She is my inspiration to be a home maker myself (going on 6 years now with 4 great kids and hard-working husband - who, like many men of the 40’s, doesn’t love his career but loves his family and works for our benefit). And doing those videos I think gives more insights than just reading about it through modern critical lenses.
Thanks for such an inspiring channel… I can’t wait to use so many of your tipd.

Another lovely insight into your life, loved the bloopers at the end ! I like the fact that you don't push 'true vintage' as the only way forward. Very few of us can afford the price of 'true vintage' unless we are lucky enough to find something in a charity shop. Many, more modern items (which are plentiful in charity shops) can be made to look as though they are from older eras. I love James Stewart too ! X

I know it's been awhile since you posted this video but wanted to say my mom was a sophomore in highschool in 1937. She taught herself to sew and in her sophomore year the home economics teacher in her very small home town could not sew. My mom at 16 taught the sewing segment that year. They made a house coat, aprons and a pair of shorts. She was an awesome seamstress and while I was growing up she sewed for the public. I was the best dressed girl in school and all my friends wanted my clothes. She made all my ball gowns too. I sew too but always judge my skills by my moms... and I never measure up! I've always had the fantasy that I could be a housewife since I Love homemaking, but I've always had the feeling that I'm not allowed to ssy that out loud, especially here in Finlabd where equality is a huge subject. But as I've got More years and especially getting married reacently I've been thinking that how Come I'm shamed to have these dreams. How Can it be, that in these times when women Can do anything it's a bad thing to wish to be a housewife. I Can understand if there are negative sides to it, such as domestic abuse or the "White pride" ideology, those are never ok.

My favourite era is the 1920s! Ever since I saw the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, I was hooked! My next fave era is the 1940s, because that's when my Mom was growing up. She has told me so many stories about when the war was going on, and how her life was during the dirty thirties, and the 1940s. In Canada we have college where you get a diploma, is more experience and skill oriented.Things like graphic design or art for business/advertisement, therapy, ems, hair dressing and hands on type things.University is for a degree and is more information based learning (recently they've tried to incorporate more experience, but this and past year everything's been online). Things like the bachelor of fine art,law school, certain versions of engineering etc. Both have architecture, nursing usually starts in college 2 years, finishes 2 in university,or does all 4 university. So a little bit of an idea 😉.In the U.S.A.-they have community college and state colleges/university.Community versions usually function to help get into further state version stepping block, aren't job accredited for many purposes, and things like regular nursing might for example, could get u a bit of a job locally in your state depending on what they recognize but to be fully accredited u definitely need to go on to a state recognized university, especially for Registered Nursing (office paperwork.I don't know if you call that R.N. where u are?).
I happen to think the 'engagement dress'from a scene in high society, played by Grace Kelly would make for an attractive modern interpretation.
I really think women in the 50's had a lot of leeway, were active in meetings for charity, which is easy to not have time for when everybody works the office job.Forcing women out of the home when it's not their choice of preference really takes away their rights. So if it works in your favor (and your family 😊), good for you!! more power to ya.

Most of my cloths are from the 70's but some are 70's inspired. I am into more of a formal look/ over 30 looks, from these eras. I don't like hippie cloth. It is all over the place gives off an air that you don't give a toss. I also had decorations my house with a mid century modern look. Over time I plan on renovating it and putting back some of the late 60's look that it would have. The previous owners have given it a late 90s early 2000s look.

I have people say the same thing to me about my accent haha! I grew up in Australia until I was 19 and have lived in the UK for the past 2 & a half years, plus my husband is English. So my accent is a very soft Australian with a hint of Southern English. 😂 But I also think most people outside Australia expect us to sound like Steve Irwin or have a really heavy, broad accent and don't realise there are a few subtle dialects.

I love watching all you young ladies videos about vintage fashion , hair and makeup but honestly I realize some things might look silly on me . Thanks for letting me know about Nikki Redcliff !! I just found her on Instagram. Does she have a UA-cam channel to ?

First off, I want to say that I just found your channel a few days ago and have been devouring it when I have a spare moment. I am a woman that is half way a walking anachronism. My mind is on other eras most of the time.
I had a thought, I think you did fantastic job with being a 50s housewife for a week.
I am probably a little older than most of your viewers. I am in my mid 50s. I had parents that had a large age gap between them and oddly enough, my late husband and I had a wide age gap. The cool thing with these facts is that I had unique windows into the past.
What I am leading up to here is that I think your sister was mistaken in the message that your videos might send. I think there are a lot stereotypes of women in the 50s and what was expected that are a bit off in the modern imagination than they really were. As, women having no choices and having to obey their husband's in everything is less true than most think, and some women did work. In fact, I fell heir to my grandmother's keepsake box and there was a paper for people whom were considering wedlock from the 1930s, that encouraged women to help out with household finances by getting a gob. My great aunt was a nurse and married to the head engineer of General Motors. She definitely didn't have to work. But she pursued her career and raised a family.
However, when the Great Depression hit, here in America, married women were not allowed to work and take jobs from men who were considered the obligatory provider. However, just a few years later, women were again encouraged women to get back in the workforce during WW II on the other hand. one could really tell how exhausted you were when you were living for a week as a 50s housewife. Thank goodness we have so many modern conveniences that make life a little but easier. I really miss the values that people had then. It seems that in a lot of ways the moral fiber was stronger because parents were more there for their kids. My husband was raised that you sit down to eat and leave distractions behind and be present with family. I am so glad that we brought our kids up that way. I think that is something that really deserves to make a comeback. I think families would be stronger.
I cant wait to watch the rest of your videos and look forward to any new videos you make.

I'm newer to your channel, and I love your videos so much more than a few others I follow. Please keep making your videos, and I would love some cooking/recipe videos as well. I love the education of how people lived in the 50's. I have always been such a fan of the past. There is something very soothing and calming of how they lived. My parents were born before the 50's in Europe, and cooking bread and all the meals and desserts by scratch is what my mother specialized in. BTW, love your Australian accent. Much love from American.
