I am slightly too obsessed with vintage everything...so your channel is literally the best thing since sliced bread! And you are so fun to watch!
haha thank you! I'm glad you are enjoying it! :)
She is a pure joy to watch isn't she? I am soo addicted to her channel, I wait every week for new content! And being how Christmas is my favorite time of the year, it just makes these videos extra special for me.
@@TheStoneWhisperer I agree with all of this! Christmas...vintage...and some sage lilleyman! Check, check, and check!
@@SageLilleyman you are so welcome!
I found it interesting that you added the lights at the end of decorating your tree. I always do it first.
I only just found out that putting the lights on first is the correct method! 😂
No worries!! The joy of decorating your tree is that it is all the beauty of the one who is decorating the tree. You get to do all different next time. Wishing you a JOYOUS CHRISTMAS 🎄!!
We always do lights last, I don't think it matters.
@@SageLilleyman I'm middle aged and our family never did it first lol. It probably doesn't matter 😁🌟❤️
We always did lights first but I love how it looked with the lights on last
You are an artist! You pay attention to all the little details. Your videography, script, editing, music choice, your voice and style....wow. Charming. You are so refreshing. You make the world beautiful, as it should be. Thank-you.
Wow that means so much, thank you! xx
Agreed!!
PS: the next time you make egg nog, temper your eggs before adding them to the pot so that you don’t have curdles. To do this, ladle a little milk at a time into your eggs and whip it with a whisk; do this three or four times until you have a smooth custard going, then whip it into your warm milk.
That will work much better!🌲
Definitely this, egg nog recipes always leave that out!
Unfortunately the tempering doesn't always work. I temper my eggs and still get curdles. But I pass mine through a fine meshed seive before putting it back into the pot.
Would adding them with an electric whip blend them quickly so no clumping?
I definitely want to try making a string of dried oranges now. So cute! 🍊🎄
joo, me too
Yes I do to. And it will make the house smell goo
I want to do that too . Slightly worried it might attract ants or bugs?
I love how tastefully you use tinsel. Growing up, my mom was OBSESSED with tinsel. She would buy several packets and we'd use so much that the branches were barely visible
Hahaha 😂
I have vintage ornaments from my grandma. It’s really nice to have especially since I was never able to meet her😌
Recently came upon your channel from the video of you being a 1950’s house wife for a week. I instantly subscribed, your personality is so bubbly and fun. I have Really have enjoyed your videos 😊 sending a hello from a new subbie here in the states.
Beat regards and Merry Christmas ,

Thank you so much for subscribing! xx Merry Christmas!
I don’t know why you were in my recommendations but I’m glad I clicked. You’re adorable!! 💜
Thanks so much 🥰
Intelligent, independent, personable, charming with an internal compass that guides your actions. The people that you share life with are fortunate indeed!
I love the wreath. For next year, you might want to add some of your dried orange slices and natural cranberries to it. Would really compliment the grapevines.
I'm planning a winter solstice wreath and I'm stealing this idea, thanks Stephanie :)
Vintage Christmas is my favorite Christmas
Being from the southern US, we don’t really get cold, white Christmases either. But we also don’t have all the beautiful things blooming 😕 Love your flowers!!
summer Christmas is trippy!
But we also don’t have summer weather in Florida like they do. It won’t be 90 degrees for Christmas
This is off the topic, but you have a beautiful garden.
haha I love my little garden, so thank you! x
You made me laugh! What 40’s or 50’s housewife wouldn’t have wiped that ledge!!!! I was taught by the best and that is just what would have been done! Your house is so nice and festive! The orange garland is just beautiful. 🎄😆
I love how this Christmas video has an old-timely vibe❤️❤️❤️
charming video and lovely channel
Thank you very much! I love your channel! 💞
Such a beautiful glimpse into yesteryear. I love it. Also, I always forget seasonally, that Australia and the States are opposite. Such a lovely video. Thank you! 💕
Nothing beats the smell of a live pine tree. Dural in Sydney have so many Christmas tree farms around. It makes Christmas just that little bit more special + no plastic.🌲
❤️🎄 all the vintage Christmas vibes. Honestly, your dedication to the aesthetic is what does it for me. Love your channel.
I completely agree! Let's not forget to mention how she looks like she stepped out of McCall's Sewing Pattern! Gorgeous!
Thank you so much!!
awh! You are so sweet!
When I was a little girl, that drippy stuff that we put on our Christmas tree was actually made out of LEAD! Now it is made of shiny strips of plastic, which is much better. Our tree used to look so lovely with the baubles and tin flowers in many colours. We have an angel on our tree top, too. Your video is so charming! Thanks for sharing! Stay safe, Sage! ~Janet in Canada
Thank you so much! 😊💕 Wow, lead on the Christmas tree! ahhh 😱
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁✨
Sale of lead tinsel was outlawed is the states in 1972. Probably banned in Canada and other places then too? If you are able to see old photos, it looked a little different because of the weight of the lead material made them hang straight down in a more dramatic way. Lovely, but not worth the danger. The other potentially dangerous Christmas decor was angel hair! Spun fiberglass in a package ready to spread around the house. So itchy if you got it on you, or forbid, in your eyes! Not as bad as lead poisoning, but not one of the vintage traditions I would want to bring back. They have non-glass based angel hair for "snow" now.
You brought back such happy holiday memories from my childhood! I love how you're making a home and not just a place that holds stuff ❤🎄
We always had an angel on top of our tree too ❤
THANK YOU for your lovely program! We are really needing this warm happy sentiment right now!😍
Awh! Thank you so so much! 🥰
I LOVE THE TREE!!! It reminds me of the trees and Christmases of my youth. To make life easier on yourself in the future, put your lights on first. They're easier to put on the tree when it's bare, it's easier to hid the cords, and you don't risk knocking your ornaments out of your tree 🌲🌲🌲
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how many camera angles you work to provide? Closeups, far away, It literally feels like we are right there with you as you decorate, craft, bake, run errands with you, etc. it really makes your channel unique and so memorable in addition to your sparkle & personality!
Ps. I love the orange garland! And the foxgloves in your garden! And the music you had in the background makes my soul feel so warm!
Aw!! Your lovely comments warm my heart!! Thank you so much for watching my videos! 💞❤️🎄🎁
I adore your Christmas tree! Makes me nostalgic for my grandmother’s homemade garland. She would put slices of orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit in the dehydrator and make the most colorful strands, along with dried cranberries, popcorn, and pine cones. I loved helping her decorate the tree. We kept it very simple, just the natural garland, some white lights, golden lacy bows of ribbon, and an angel on top.
Would love to experience just one xmas with all the summer weather! How different and I know my spirit would be flying high with such beautiful weather!
I know we are going into spring after snow here in England, but I just had to see your decor for Christmas. Was not disappointed, you are such a lovely lady and your voice is soo calming. Your garden is beautiful. Xxx
We always had an angel as well never had a star I never even thought about that after my husband died as I said in my last comment I'm disabled I lost my home of 33 years I could have sent you the most beautiful vintage things I had to let go of so many again this video is warming my heart and bringing back so many memories 💕🎄💕
Awh! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 😊 Sending so much love to you! 💞❤️
Sonni Hill, I'm sorry to hear about you losing your home and so many of your beautiful vintage things...You wishing you could have shared your treasures shows that you are very special soul.🥰...I love knowing kind people with generous hearts like yours still exist in this world...I know this video was from Christmas 2020 and it is now Sept 2021 but I do hope you see my reply...If so, please post your address here, as I would love to add you to my Christmas card list this year and send you a bit of holiday CHEER! 🎄...I will never give up the time honored tradition of sending Christmas cards...I was raised by my Granny & Granpa and adore all things vintage...May you continue to be warmed by your heartfelt memories...Sending best wishes and HUGS from my ❤ to your ❤.
Your voice is so soothing! I loved the video! I forget that not every country is cold during Christmas season, so the flowers and warm weather threw me off 😂 Merry Christmas!🎄
Thank you, that is so sweet of you!
Everything looked really nice I'm so jealous that it's warm for you for Christmas and it's cold here for us
hey i'm a siedl too! g'day from Australia!!
It’s snowing in Denmark right now, so I got in a Christmas mood. This video helped the urge to do something Christmas-like. Thanks for a great video 😃🎄🎅🏻🧑🏻🎄🤶🏻
Thank you for watching! :)
Vintage colored light bulbs on an electric wire garland were each large, as long (if not as wide) as an egg. Tiny bulbs and flashing, blinking were invented later.
I am absolutely in Love with watching your videos. It must be wonderful to live in Australia. I follow Birds of Australia and am always fascinated. Your Garden is exquisite !!!!! 💜💜
Thanks so much, yes Australia is a lovely place! 😊
Everytime I click on your channel you’re gaining! I’m so happy for you!!! I was here since 6k. 💞
Yes. Her description from a few days and says 16k and she’s already nearly 23k! So happy for her
We use a mercury glass spike for our tree top. My parents have had it since the 60s. Lovely tree. 💕🎄
First of I have strong feelings about doing the lights on the tree first. Second we’ve always used a ribbon wreath on top of the tree.
Me too! I also use A LOT of lights! 😀
Thoroughly enjoyed this, your tree and garland are both lovely! The gold 'tinsel' strands are called 'lametta' here in the UK. I love lametta on my Christmas tree along with plenty of vintage baubles and decorations that my sons made when they were small (now 24 and 22 !). Wishing you and yours a lovely, safe festive season. X
Thank you so much! 😊💕 Merry Christmas to you also! 🎄🎁
I always put tinsel in my tree. We did when I was little and now I do it for my littles. It’s just not the same without tinsel. :) Merry Christmas to all!
My mother never liked tinsel. Probably too messy. For me, it’s tinsel garland!
@@carolynworthington8996 great alternative! Growing up we did tinsel 1 year...ONE YEAR , it was EVERYWHERE 😆
Hello, darling! I have to tell you, I've been watching your videos all evening and you are simply adorable, charming, talented, and just lovely for putting these together during quarantine. Thank you for spreading Christmas cheer, giving folks ideas, and finding ways to remain happy and creative when there's not much else any of us can do. Keep it up! :D
I really love how you share not only your successes but fails as well. Stuff like that always happens to me and nice to know it even happens to you, even though you are very put together.
It’s so funny that so many of you wish to have lived in that time period. I’m old so let’s just get that out-of-the-way. I lived in that time and have wonderful memories. But ladies, you would not enjoy the day to day existence of a woman in the 50s. Most families had one car, if they even had a car. It wasn’t until people started moving out in the suburbs that they had a car. Up until then if you lived in the city as most people did on the east coast of America you took the trolley. My mother had a wringer washer. That meant that the cycle stopped before the spin and women had to manually put the clothes through the ringer and hand crank to get the excess moisture out before they hung the clothes on the clothesline. Nope, no dryer. You did the dishes in the sink, new dishwasher. And you cook dinner every single night. People didn’t go out to dinner or have fast food or carry out. You ate according to the seasons. Produce didn’t come in from other countries like it does now. Girls didn’t wear pants to school. It didn’t matter how cold it was you had your bear little legs exposed to the elements, unless you had a respite with kneesocks or a pair of tights. There weren’t consistent television shows. You may watch dingdong school and winky dink and the Arthur Godfrey show and then television with shut down until later in the afternoon and then again in the evening. Captain kangaroo and romper room weren’t even on the horizon. Women wore house stresses. People didn’t take showers every day. You didn’t wash your hair every day. Women would wash their hair once a week and have a day in pincurls..... That was usually a Friday so that their hair would look nice for the weekend. People didn’t have multiples of shoes and clothing. As kids you had school shoes, play shoes and a pair of church shoes. Ditto for mom. Compared to today it was a time of less but we never felt like we didn’t have. The quality of items surpasses anything you can buy today. My mother sewed so most of my clothing came from her singer treadle sewing machine. Stores were closed on Sundays, Saturday nights and we’re only open on Wednesday nights during the week. This 24 seven 365 existence we have today simply didn’t exist. Oh my gosh I’m making myself homesick. But I would still want my washer dryer and dishwasher.....oh....and AC!
I agree, i would hate to be without my dryer, washing machine, dishwasher and AC (a must). Think i could live without a dishwasher but i choose not too
That's why modern vintage living is awesome. But, I do miss how well things used to be made, the ability to repair things, and stores being closed on Sunday...
Beautiful.. you just need a tree skirt to cover your tree stand and you might find it easier to put on your tree lights first so that you can hide the light wires deeper in the tree branches & won't have to worry about the wires knocking or pushing into your ornaments as you're stringing the lights up. 🙂
Just a hint for next year.....the lights go on more easily if you do them first before any other decorations. Commonly hand-made decorations from the era were candy canes made from twisted pipe cleaners and they never got sticky
Thank you for the tip! I didn’t actually know they went on first! 😊🎄
One of my favorite childhood memories was doing a vintage tree. No lights. Old ornaments. As a family we made garlands of cranberry and popcorn. We daredeviled and lived dangerously in the 80s and did clipped candles that we only lit once, but I really wouldn't recommend that today. It was the most beautiful tree we ever had.
Your decorations & tree looks simply lovely. The garland above the door just sings Merry Christmas to all who enters. Sage, you have such a endearing personality to handle most tasks & James adds to your smiles. Please tell James he is a very lucky man to have such a Darling as you to complete his life. I'm very grateful that you are kind enough to invite us into your life and share your experiences of life in the 1950's. Your home decor & beautiful flowers are a testimony to your inner heart . Yes, snow is very beautiful we are to receive 12-18 in tomorrow so I'll share some Snow & you can send us some Beautiful Australian Sun. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you & yours...please do keep making those neat crafts & sharing your instructural finds so we to can add some glitter & style to our lives. Cheers ❤🎁🎄 🎉🎆🥂❄☃️
Your comment means so much! Thank you!! ❤️💗Merry Christmas! 🎁🎄✨
From one old movie aficionado to another, thanks for living your best life in the 50's and God bless James for being so accommodating!!! Egg nog is the best! In the US we sometimes add a bit of brandy with egg nog and nutmeg over ice. It's delicious! Just an fyi, but one is enough!!! Merry Christmas! Your tree and garland are beautiful!
Love stepping back in time with your lovely videos. I shut the door to depressing present and relax. Thank you.
Love all the vintage.
Hint: if you don't want to keep purchasing candy canes yearly. Get individually wrapped ones. Then leave them in the wrapping. That's what we did.
I love your Christmas 🎄. ❤❤
Sometimes.. especially when it is warm… even individually wrapped candy canes melt and get sticky .. I have to pretty much get new ones each year 🫤
BEAUTIFUL🌲 we in America put our lights on 1st it hides the cord. The Bows are Darling! I love all kinds of garland. 👍🏻💅🏻
This video makes me happy. I love Christmas and decorating and baking during that time. Your decorations are gorgeous!
You could make pipe cleaner and beads candy canes! Pinterest! Problem solved. Love your channel. 🤗 Also, it's always warm here in Fl. for the Holidays. It really takes that magical feeling out of everything.
That's a great idea!! Thanks so much for watching
My style of Christmas decorating. Classic, yet very magical.
I loved this!! It makes me so excited for Christmas. xxx
Aw thanks Lil! xx Christmas is really just the best occasion of the year hehe :)
I love that orange garland idea!❤️ Plus your hair was so beautiful in that bun!😊
LITTLE LADY.......YOU are a CUTIE PIE.......I ABSOLUTELY LOVED your TREE.....I can’t tell that all of my life I have wanted a WARM CHRISTMAS.....To wake up and have things blooming and not all dead......I have wished right after Christmas would be spring again....This year is so much HARDER I lost my BEAUTIFUL DAD on SEPT 16th and this year my family is broken....We will get through but it will never be the same.....I just LOVE your videos again YOU are a DOLL....
Thank you so much! I’m sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing 💗
There are still 4 months and 4 days till Christmas, yet this video makes me wish it were the Christmas days. Merry early Christmas:))
Love you coat!! ❤️🙋🏻♀️
Thank you! xx
Since no one actually EATS candy canes... it makes sense to make candy canes out of red and white clay, and a lacquer finish to use again and again. Might be a fun, crafty video, too!
Sage… Quick suggestion… your tree looks great by the way. But I’m surprised you don’t put your lights on first before the garland and the baubles. I have a good friend whose tree always looks great because she makes sure she puts lights not just on the ends of the branches but also in the center of the tree so that the interior of the tree is also illuminated. It takes a bit of extra time but it’s well worth it. Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎁🎄
Every time I watch one of your Videos you have so many new subscribers! It makes me genuinely Happy to see how your Channel is growing
Thank you so much! ❤️💕
Love this!! I definitely don't mind the vintage look 😇
I grew in Los Angeles and had warm sunny Christmas’s too. I moved up north to Portland, or and have a white Christmas every other year. It’s so nice.
I've never seen anyone put the lights up last. I've always put them on first. But everyone is different. Merry Christmas!! 🎅🤶🎄☃️ Looks gorgeous.! ❤️
Thank you! 😊 I didn’t even know there was a method until now! 😂 xx
Merry Christmas too! 🎄🎁✨
The orange slice garland idea is so clever! Popcorn garlands also work well too!
I have actually just started making a popcorn garland for the tree now!
We typically don't have White Christmases here in the southern US states, especially in Alabama where I live. It can get a bit chilly during the winter, but we rarely get snow. Mostly icy roads after a cold rain. Black ice is no fun especially at night. We make Christmas as fun as we can get it to be.
We stayed in Australia for Christmas and New Year visiting our friends who emigrated to the Gold Coast. It was a surreal experience to have a BBQ by a lake, swimming, lolling about. I was surprised that turkey wasn’t featured much but gammon/ham was everywhere. We enjoyed our month stay and are going back next year. Now back to the video!
I make tatted lace (with a shuttle) ornaments. They remind me of my Nana's tree. She had so many pretty ball ornaments with tatted lace and snowflakes. It's actually quite easy to shuttle tatt. You should look into it.
I was born in the 90s so I don't really know wot it was like in the 50s an 60s but my mummy use ho wear this skirts and ruffled blouses and heels and pin curls as I was growing up she still had her blonde hair like that and red 💄 lipstick, now I love fashion an vintage things😘
Sage this is a sweet and lovely Christmas 🎄 video❤️👏🏻🤗I absolutely love the orange garland. A new Christmas project for me!!! I am so happy I found you in YT 👏🏻💛🎶☕️🤗it is always hot here in Florida too around the holidays❤️❤️❤️❤️
I don’t think I could ever live in Australia, with cold summers and no Christmas, and hot winters with Christmas! 😂
Love the vintage Christmas vibes! 💕🎄
My Mimi (grandmother) always had an Angel atop her Christmas tree, too!❤❤❤
Angels just light up the tree and give it that old time feel! xx
You are the absolute cutest! I just subscribed! I love your sense of humor and being from America, I love hearing how you do Christmas in Australia!
Thanks for subscribing! 😊🎄🎁✨
Oh my!! I love your foxgloves!
Hehe thanks! 😊
Love the little calendar is adorable!!
Sage, I was feeling a bit low with it today, and I decided to Bing watch some of your videos. It really did brighten my day, and I was able to get some lovely vintage ideas for the upcoming holidays. Thank you 💐
Thank you for this!! Loved it👏🏻. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Just found your channel the other day and I'm so glad I did! You are a breath of fresh air and a joy to watch. Keep up the great work! Merry Christmas
Awh 🥰 thank you so much! 💋 Merry Christmas to you also! 🎄🎁✨
My Mom strictly enforced only 1 or 2 strands of tinsel per branch. Being kids we always tried to finish faster and had to redo it. Lol One of the little things I'll never forget. Charming video.
I am so glad that i came across this vblogs coz it really give calm and remembering how sweet and relaxing years. Love it so much
I love this video, so very Christmassy and festive......I have had a busy weekend performing a Nativity Play and this is just the thing to watch to calm down and start thinking of gifts!
Awh! I’m glad you enjoyed the video 💞🎁🎄
Beautiful vintage but also environmentally friendly Xmas decorations 🎄
Love the vibe of this video! Can't wait for Christmas and the calm days it brings along. You are delightful 😊
My mum and dad, newly weds in 1949, still had some of their tinsel strands when I was growing up - they called it 'lametta', and we put it on the tree just as you did.
Loved this video. Your over the door garland turned out cute. Loved the gold tree tinsel too. It is easier to put lights on first and hides the wires better. One more tip just because I’m a Capricorn and can’t help myself; is to cut ribbons at an angle or if straight edge do a v notch to give pretty tail. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks for the tips :) I never thought to cut Christmas ribbons in that way! I always do that for my hair ribbbons :) Thank you! xx
I love your videos. You give a whole different perspective on life; it really is refreshing. Happy Holidays!
Aw, thank you! I’m so glad you enjoy my videos! Xx Happy Holidays also 💞🎄🎁✨
Lovely Just Lovely!!.... There's a better way to do the eggnog pastuerizing part. You put some of the Hot Milk mixture gently to thebeaten eggs.... AS YOU WHISK IT.... It's called tempering the eggs... Then you pour the eggs into the warm milk mixture and whisk the entire time as the egg flows in a slim stream into the hot milk...... then it gets mixed and thickens and all that without separating and all that.
It's the same method I use to make Tapioca and eggnog here in Northern Northern California.
I love your videos! There's so warm and lovely!
Everything looks amazing you did a fabulous job
Loved this video. I am completely obsessed with your channel. I have always said I was born 3 decades to late. I always wanted to be June Cleaver! Merry Christmas!
haha! Thank you very much!
Then you must watch her I Lived a Week Like a 50s Housewife, if you haven’t yet.
@@carolynworthington8996 Yes, I did! It is the video that got me hooked!❤👗👜
I loved the Cleavers as well. I learned later that the actress who played June wore the heels to add to her height to help the boys look younger than the actors that played them were. The pearl necklace was to hide a surgical scar on her neck. I think Sage got it right that a lady would change clothes for dinner but may have dressed differently while cleaning. The shoes they wore all day cleaning house were probably cute, but they also probably didn't have as much height to the heal as June Cleaver's did.
@@l.trees.e2053 Thank you for these fun facts! How cool!👗👠
What is interesting to me is if I say to anyone I dreamed of being Jine Cleaver I am met with, "reallly"? You want to serve your family and be stuck at home? Don't you have any dreams or goals for yourself? 🙄🤷♀️
Love your countdown to Christmas girl calendar thing! I will have to look for one of those! We always do a paper chain and pull off a chain loop each day.
i love your orange garland! Everything looks so pretty, vintage and festive! Merry Christmas!!
Thank you 😊 Merry Christmas to you also! 🎄🎁✨
I loved the garland! I'm going to try that on mine next year!
I love your channel. My daughter & I are enjoying seeing the vintage theme videos.
Thank you so much to you both for watching! ❤️ Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁✨
Loving your homemade decor. Dehydrated citrus are so beautiful when hung up. That eggnog looked so good. It's so good seeing someone else from Aus as well, Spotlight and Bunnings are great for Christmas projects. Thanks for taking us along, and enjoy the rest of December.
Thank you so much for watching! 💞 I agree they are great places to shop for DIY projects and Christmas things. Wishing you a Merry Christmas! 🎁🎄✨
@@SageLilleyman Merry Christmas to you too!
Tinsel! my mom used to use it all the time when I was young, till one of my cats decided to eat it and ended up at the vet with a blockage. The cat was fine but that was the end of the tinsel. Mom would also spend a really long time picking all the tinsel off the tree after Christmas every year, before she shoved the tree back into the box. I would help with the removal of the stuff but get board pretty quickly. Your tree looks cute.
You forgot the rum with the egg nog lol. Not really I actually rarely drink it with rum, but that was the only way my uncle would serve it even as a kid there would be a little splash (barley cover the bottom of the glass) that used to make me feel like an adult.
haha thanks for sharing! Oh no, that sounded terrible about your poor cat!! Yes, I agree the tinsel is definitely a mess to put away each year!
That was my first thought when I saw all that tinsel... So gorgeous, but such a dangerous temptation for my two kitties! I'm glad your cat was all right. 💛
My mom would also use tinsel. I think the cat got it as well. She would find tinsel under the furniture in July. LoL. Eventually she stopped using it.
You can get a tacky glue or double sided tape on the ones that aren't sticky anymore. I love your videos!
I just found your channel & it’s such a gem! Going back and watching your vids. Happy Holidays to you guys🎄
Thank you so much! 😊 Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁✨
