In the emerald victory road one trainer has a muk with acid amour and minimize, playing on set my 1st turn I switched to my aggron to earthquake (I did not have a psychic type to attack poison) so it gets a free minimize. I missed earthquake, it then uses acid amour to buff its defense. Switching between minimize and acid amour I either couldn’t hit the thing or did barely any damage. I eventually had to struggle kill it as muk had only sludge(which doesn’t touch aggron) and screech as it’s other moves. That’s 35 mins I’m never getting back and now muk is one of my most hated Pokémon for that reason
I can relate.I ran into a biker with a grimer that knows minimize on my first time playing fire red and it was awful Edit : I forgot to mention koga’s muk

The fact that double teams accuracy affects work while Kingdra is LITERALLY ASLEEP AND NOT MOVING is something that I forced down into the deepest parts of my memories
Chansey in RBY & FRLG: Extremely rare, found in only 1 area, 1% encounter, with a high chance to run, and being unable to be weakend Chanset in LGPE: "Bonjour"
I remember my first Nuzlocke was in the original Gold version. I ended up catching Sandshrew just before my battle with Miltank. I had no idea at the time that Sandshrew was about to obliterate Miltank and save my entire team with a single move, Dig. Yep I was terrified of Miltank only to discover that Sandshrew with Dig was about to throw sand in her face as it dug holes all over her stupid Gym. Sandshrew went on to being an MVP my entire run and I made it a regular on all my teams when I had the chance.
My First-ever Shiny was a Shiny Galarian Yamask in Pokèmon Sword during my First-ever Nuzlocke, but I unfortunately lost the Nuzlocke and, therefore, the Shiny.
Many years have passed since this day, but alas is still ingrained in my memory. Ultra Sun. I had just completed the ghost trial and beat the totem. While walking out, apparently there were wild pokemon, and after going through the mazenof the grocery store, I was literally three steps away when a golbat came up and bothered me. I must've been distracted because I never saw star sparkles at all, but saw the green and purple golbatnin front of me. I'll never forget what I said; "I'll try to catch it, but won't be upset if I don't catch it." Worst mistake of my life. Threw a quick ball, and as you'd expect, it broke out and I gave up and ran. I don't know when I learned about shinies, but I definitely remember trying to scan all of the shiny qr codes for that game. It hurts my soul to this day knowing that I found a shiny and didn't catch it, and adding that it was full odds. I've failed four more Pokémon afterwards, all of which were from Pokémon Go, and three of the four from comm days, excluding a sableye, which was during a Go Fest. Luckily, I found a shiny zubat in PoGo and transferred it into Pokemon Home and evolved it and whatnot, but losing my first ever shiny gets to you.
Yeah I have a similar horror story with not knowing about shiny Pokémon. Back in 2011 on Christmas I got Pokémon black and it was my very first Pokémon game and I went to choose my starter. I chose Snivy and got a cool bluegreen Snivy that sparkled. I didn’t think anything of it because maybe because I’m the main character I got a different color Snivy (I was 8 years old). After a few hours of the play through and completing the first gym I went out to go visit my other family for Christmas and turned off my game. Mind you this was my first Pokémon game and didn’t know I needed to save. When I got home I went to go play Black and realized I didn’t save. I wasn’t too upset because all I had was a Snivy and Panpour and wasn’t too far in the game so I go to boot it up and go back to pick Snivy again. This time though it was the lime green Snivy that was all over the commercials and I was very confused because I liked the blue green version better. I asked my mom if I could use her phone to look up blue green Snivy and that’s when I found out that the Snivy I had originally gotten was a 1/8192 chance and a very rare thing. It still hurts to this day 10 years later😐
I’ve only ran into a small handful of shinies and luckily I haven’t lost any of them. However, what is really weird is this…. In Sun, I caught a shiny pelipper. In ultra Moon, I got shiny wingull. And then in shield, I got a shiny pelipper. Again. ALLL these Pokémon and I know have three Random shinies I caught in the wild from the same family
@Robin- FakeASMR Must Be Stopped The fact you need some specific-ish strategy, and the luck dependent fight is the reason why that Miltank is so annoying (unless you're overleveled that's a different story)
Meditite (and Torterra kind of). Years ago, when Platinum was the hot new game, I remember going through Mt. Coronet when I encountered my first ever shiny -- a Meditite. I didn't know what shinies were at the time so you could imagine that it caught me off guard when I saw a red-orange Meditite. I wanted to catch this thing so bad, but when I opened my bag, I did not have a single poké ball. Very upset, I ran away. Later on, I check my party to see that, for some reason, I had put a heal ball on my Torterra at some point that could've been used to catch that Meditite. Ever since then, Meditite, Torterra, and my 7 year-old ape brain were all pokemon that wronged me.
@@coolcyan9772 HWMF didn't pull a pokrbsll on their torterra instead gave it as an item(like you with leftovers or a berry) "put it on" is a simple way of saying gave it to them(in pokemon)
‘Hmm, are there any past events that could’ve led to your sprained wrist?’ ‘Ummmmm…..’ ‘Can you think of any?’ ‘I uhh… I spent hours mashing a button on a handheld device to get a special form of a monster from a children’s game.’
Regarding the Helioptile, I made a similar mistake in Sun with a Salandit. I spent hours grinding one only to find out that only FEMALE Salandit can evolve.
I love how shinies can either make people love or hate a certain Pokémon. The Totodile line is one of my favorite lines because my Totodile in the Gen 2 VC was shiny, but Fearow is my least favorite Pokémon because a shiny Fearow ran away from me in Let’s Go.
I have a similar story with your Helioptile. I was playing original Ruby with my Gloom and I was at level 45 and I started to get irritated when it wasn't evolving. Then I looked it up and felt stupid when it just needed a leaf stone!
The very first Pokémon version I played was Yellow when I was 7. I’m 28 now, and not only did a particular line of Pokémon wrong me but a certain character that haunts me to this very day: Sabrina! Even Abra was a pain when it decided to spam flash and by the time I reached Kadabra, my Pokémon’s accuracy was worse than a Storm trooper.
That story about the Helioptile reminded me of how when I played Sun I decided not to look everything up ahead of time and I had a male Salandit on my team. I was like "OK how does this thing evolve? Cuz Ive been leveling it up a bunch and I guess its not a level up evo?" Lol you can imagine how I felt when I looked it up.
Stuff like this is why it does pay to at least have a basic knowledge of mechanics, even if you'd like to play the story blind. I've seen one Nuzlocke of Pokémon X which very nearly failed because the person didn't know Mr. Mime was a Fairy type.
I got a Miltank story for ya, Michael. I'm doing a SoulSilver Nuzlocke, and after some work, I eventually get to Whitney's Gym. I don't have a Fighting type, so I come up with a strategy to specifically deal with her Miltank. I would start with my starter, Mango the Bayleaf, and have him use Reflect to reduce physical damage. I would then switch to Falcon the Pidgeotto and begin lowering its Accuracy with Sand Attack, switching between the two to refresh Reflect and to clear Attract, healing when necessary. I'm doing this strategy, and it's working wonders, and soon I get the Miltank to -6 accuracy. Then... the stupid thing outspeeds me and lands a crit Stomp, killing Falcon. At -6 accuracy and its attack lowered from Reflect! It then crits Mango, dropping him down to 1 hp. All the sand in its eyes must have pissed it off, because that stupid cow kept landing crits on me, and Whitney healed it up four times before Mango finally landed a crit Magical Leaf and killed it. I hate that dumb cow so much... P.S. I had switched to Burrow the Onix at some point in the battle, hoping to tank a couple hits with her high defense while I healed Mango, and the Miltank almost one-shot Burrow. This slab of hamburger killed my bird, and almost killed two more of my team. The rage is real.
Wait, you're telling me you only used 3 pokemon for that fight? Also can't you get a guaranteed geodude encounter and just spam rollout on clefairy which would power up on the miltank? I'm not sure about this.
My first ever shiny was shiny nosepass in black 2. Because I hadn’t encountered many before I assumed nosepass had different colours, like different colours of stone. When I discovered what a shiny was I noticed this nosepass must have been shiny.
My first shiny was a fail, a Grimer. My second shiny was a Zigzagoon, which was my first successful catch. Grimer was in Sapphire, while Zigzagoon was in Ruby.
I haven't gotten to the ad part, but I remember we got grunty boy in the shower that one time... I wonder what thirst tra- funny bit grunty boy will do this time.
@Shroomie lemon I had the best luck. My starter Pokemon was female so she wasn't attracted to any female Pokemon. Yumi as well. She was my only hope against Whitney.
One of the few sponsorships I don’t skip. He’s actually creative with them instead of just reading off a script card. And there is a running gag for entertainment. He’s taking some really good notes from successful advertising through the years and doing it HIMSELF. Which is pretty cool! Love the effort! I’m a girl, so I’m not purchasing men’s soap, but if I wanted to smell like aftershave, I’d get some.
Speaking of Shiny Pokémon that bring you pain in some way, I randomly found a full-odds (so no Shiny Charm, and I wasn't hunting for a Shiny) Shiny Yellow Flower Flabébé in my Pokémon X copy, but unfortunately, I noticed that Bubbles (my Frogadier) was way too high level to get the Flabébé to low health without her fainting. I went to my Bag to use some Poké Balls to try and catch her, but I didn't have any Poké Balls except one, which she broke out of. I was forced to either run away or have Bubbles faint Flabébé. Either way, I would lose the only random Shiny Pokémon that I've ever found. I ordered Bubbles to faint the Flabébé, and he did so. I never found another random Shiny on that save file, my current save file, or in any other game since, and that Flabébé encounter has stuck with me since, practically burned into my mind at this point.
Now that you mention Helioptile I do think it's actually ridiculous that they never explain in game how Pokemon evolve. It was probably to drive sales for the guides back in the day, but the devs should really put that kind of info in the Pokedex
Anyone who has any exposure to Greek mythology or knows the etymology of elements on the periodic table has a leg up in this category. It's definitely dumb that it isn't mentioned in-game, though
There's actually a feature in B2W2, where you can phone Professor Juniper and ask how your Pokémon evolve. This should be a standard thing in every Pokémon game, not some one-off deal from nearly ten years ago.
Really relate to the Kingdra part of the vid, one time I did a playthrough of Emerald on an emulator on my laptop and finally stepped into the Sootopolis Gym, Juan's Kingdra demolished three of my Pokemon and then I was forced to use my Altaria to whittle its HP down to red and paralyze it with Dragonbreath. As soon as I saw "Kingdra Used Rest!", I was so mad I shut my laptop down and didn't touch it for a week. :)
My friend had a similar situation to you with the Helioptile. He was trying to evolve machoke, and he thought it evolved somewhere in the 80's, and when it got to level 90 he finally looked it up. You can image how pissed he was
Mine was a graveller when I played pokemon red. Got him to level 60's until my cousin told me that I need to trade ,internet walkthrough was not a thing back then.
Everytime I hear this man talk about how he was troubled by Whitney's Miltank, I feel so guilty for no reason, because I have never had any trouble with taking out her team. My issue was always with Morty
Yeah I never had any trouble with Whitney’s miltank but for some reason it took me 5 attempts to beat Bugsy even though I chose cinderquill as my starter ._.
My issue was Clair...not because of her team, but because of her Gym Puzzle, and young me was too dumb to realize the rocks reset every time you left when I screwed it up the first time so I was just stuck for like a week.
This reminds me of the time where Chuggaaconroy shared the story of his friend finding a shiny graveler and it using self destruct turn 1, only for another to appearance immediately afterward and do the same.
I'm not supposed to laugh when he got the shiny Kabuto since he went through months of agony just to do it and then was physically injured. But dude, his reaction is so priceless that I cannot help it. 😂😂
Probably because it’s a perfectly cut scream, along with the camera shaking when he pushes himself back and the way he spread his arms and legs before the pterodactyl victory scream 😂
8:50 Grunty Boi apparently possesses a level of magic we are unaware he had 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gotta love that Mikey does full blown commercials for his sponsorships.👏🏽
I relate to the wrist problems. I've been diagnosed with hyper mobility, which means my joints are a little looser. This is a bit different than what you have, but pretty similar. I've had many times where my wrists and hands would be hurting after decent game sessions. Cramps, joints locking up, etc. It absolutely sucks, especially if all you're doing is mashing 1-3 buttons. Also, I failed my first shiny too. It was a blue ponyta in diamond/pearl/platinum. I don't remember what caused me to fail it, but I distinctly remember encountering it and not ending up capturing it. To this day, I try to get a shiny ponyta in each pokemon game I play. It looked better in gen 4 tho 😅
Shinies are generally rarer than most OSRS pets, tbf. Most pets in OSRS have like a 1/1500 or below drop rate if they're boss pets, and skilling pets are almost all AFK.
My first shiny was a metapod in heartgold, immediately after I caught it, my game froze. Also suprised Mikey didn't mention the metronome battle he did with Pokemen7, with John's MIltank dodging the explosion.
I did beat Juan's Kingdra by using a Slaking that has Aerial Ace to get around Double Team Edit: Wow! 130 likes! I've never had this much likes before!
Slaking is really fun for in-game teams. I used one in Emerald and could one-shot so many pokemon even while underleveled after teaching it hyper beam tm
I love how its canon that grunty boy just uses mikeys shower bc he has good soap. like it's been mentioned like 4-5 times by now, I think. meaning its not just once, he just does this semi-regularly.
You forgot to mention Cow (TheAuraGuardian's Miltank From The MBF S1) in your talking about Miltank, not gonna lie, that was rather entertaining to see Cow just kick everyone's asses up and down the sidewalk, especially when it came back from a 1 V 5 battle
He’s done it with the same region pokemon, but he hasn’t done it with changing gens around. I think grapploct to would work well with Chuck because Cianwood is a coastal area and his gym literally HAS A WATERFALL in it!
I don't know why, but whenever I watch your videos at night, I fall asleep. Even when you're complaining about something. Your voice is really soothing.
Mikey, you should get your editor to make a quiz about guessing the shiny pokemon but the shiny pokemon is one of those pokemon that barely changes colors...
Battling Whitney in Pokémon Silver wasn’t that big of a challenge when I first played it. I lost the first try but then I had a easy strategy to use Croconaw and the move rage which helped a lot.
It took me four resets catching Regirock in Emerald because it wouldn't stay in the Ball despite being on red HP and ended up killing itself repeatedly with Struggle. I named it Buttface as revenge, despite the fact it doesn't even really have a face.
Fun story: In my platinum playthrough I was about to beat fantina but then that mismagius destroyed me. Next time I barely won. So far this is my only loss

Here are some of the Shinies that I found, and I did catch them. First up, I have to say I'm very sorry for your troubles, Mikey. And yes, that Miltank is indeed infuriating! -- A Shiny Geodude that randomly showed up inside the Rock Maniac's Cave on Route 214 in my Pearl version. It was the very first Shiny I ever encountered, and thus the first one I caught. I immediately threw a Great Ball at it without whittling down its HP, since I was scared of it just blowing itself up with Self-destruct or Explosion. I caught it first try, and trained it to become Graveler. I was stuck with it being a Graveler for some time, since it's a Trade Evo; but then I remembered that my younger brother had SoulSilver. So I asked him if I could borrow his game, and he told me I could do with it whatever I wanted since he doesn't play it anymore at all. So I traded some Pokémon from Pearl to SoulSilver (I also had a Kadabra, which also evolves via trading), and after my Shiny Graveler had FINALLY become a Golem, I traded it back to Pearl. This caused it to not gain extra EXP anymore, but that wasn't a problem for me. -- Next are some Pokémon GO Shinies, specifically Houndour, Darumaka,, Snivy, Buizel and a COUPLE of Oshawotts that I caught during an Oshawott outbreak period. That Darumaka appeared as I was walking in Sittard with my grandma, and I eventually caught it! The Shiny Houndour, I found and caught during a trip to the dunes I live nearby. The Shiny Snivy... I guess it was also an Outbreak one? -- Finally, a Shiny Flygon, which I caught as a randomly appearing Shiny Trapinch at the Badlands near the Power Plant in my copy of X version, after it sprung out of the reddish ground it was moving around in on the overworld. I am very proud of it, and I trained it all the way up until it evolved into the Shiny blue-green colored dragonfly Dragon/Ground type it is today.
@@-dodup-5970 I am not really into Go, so pardon me if I get some of the names wrong. 😉 Though I noticed I have started to like it a little more than a couple months ago, I guess. Do you play Pokémon Go too?
The first gym I ever lost to was jasmine in heartgold. To be fair I did choose the water starter, was only using not very effective moves (didn’t know the type chart) and chose to pretty much only use my starter (I WAS a kid at the time). Whitney was pretty easy tho because I tend to grind beforehand in preparation (even back then).
I recently finished an Emerald Nuzlocke with a friend, and I totally understand that Kingdra. Kingra is my 2nd favorite Pokemon behind Luxray, but man Juan's Kingdra is obnoxious lol. My friend's team almost got completely wiped, he only had 1 Pokemon left after he beat Juan because of Kingdra. It only took out 1 of mine thankfully, but it was painful watching my friend almost wipe lol.
“... it wasn’t a satisfying win since I felt like I cheated.” No, Mikey. Miltank is the cheater. You just tried, desperately, like everyone else, to level the playing field. Versus Miltank, even having level 100+ using [Break his legs] is a viable strategy
I actually never had a problem with Mailtank mostly because I have almost always had a female starter Pokemon. Not to mention I was almost always over leveled and that was just by mistake because I don't run from wild Pokemon or use repels I take no prisoners
Shiny Abra. Back when shinies first started being a thing, before quick balls existed, the only way to catch an Abra was by outspeeding with Mean Look or getting stupidly lucky with a pokeball throw. My first ever shiny was Abra. Pokeball throw failed. It, of course, teleported away. Child me was _devastated_
The only Pokémon I have a bad experience with is with Pidgey. I was playing Leaf Green and was doing the first part of the game where you have to deliver a parsol to the first towns Poke Mart and came across a Shiny Pidgey and was so heartbroken. I still am to this day.
When he was talking about that last Pokémon, the same thing happened to me in Pokémon Y with my Lampent, I didn’t even realize that something was up until he hit level 64 and wasn’t fully evolved that I realized something was wrong
Thank you Mikey for making me feel validated and less stupid- In my first ever Pokémon play through, in Pokémon X, I was training up my Pokémon on random encounters. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was SHINY CHAINING, and found a sparkly patch of grass. There I found a shiny Weepinbell. I didn’t even know shiny Pokémon were a thing at that time, but I caught it anyways. Later, after I beat the champion I did the trade with Shauna to get a version of the starter she picked. …I gave her the shiny Weepinbell. I’ve had a resentment towards Weepinbell ever since, but that’s fine cause in my mind it is inferior to my favorite Pokémon, Vileplume.
Wild geodude in gen 4. This is mainly because I had to go back and train up a Raichu and a Tropius to help deal with crasher Wake. I also had to do this with other Pokémon but focus on these two. To get maximum out of these Pokémon I bred them first hatched them. then just went through the various routes leveling them up as we went. And then we got to I think the 20s where I I encountered the Geodude. The reason why these things have scarred me is because they have self destruct and forced me to continuously go to the Pokémon center back-and-forth back-and-forth.
I have a story. I was just running to Petalburg to do the Wally thing, and on the way I encountered a Ralts. I just thought, "Oh, I've never seen this before." not knowing about the four percent encounter rate. I caught it, thought it was kind of cool, and added it to my team. I later taught it Shock Wave. Then on the route with the ashes on the way to Fallarbor, I wanted some of the flutes. So I bought a bunch of Super Repels and went to run through the grass. I already had a Spinda and Slugma, but then I found a Skarmory, and as you probably know, Skarmory has Swift. I actually to this day don't know what the encounter rate for Skarmory is, but when I saw Juan's Kingdra use double team later in the game, I used Shock Wave until Calamity (the Gardevoir) went down. Then I swapped in Knight and used Swift until the Kingdra went down. It actually never used Rest and I don't know why. Also I liked how Mikey just casually picks up Mjolnir.
Skarmory is pretty fun to pick up in the Gen 3 games, because I always choose Mudkip and this Steel/Flying combo pairs up incredibly well with Swampert's Water/Ground typing.
I remember dealing with both Whitney's Miltank(Heart Gold) and Juan's Kingdra and I remembered vividly on how beat each of them. Anyone who wants to battle them again in case of replays or first timers (which I doubt cuz these games are kinda old), I guess you can applies these strats. What I did against the Miltank was I used Mareep and Onix. I used thunder wave twice to bypass the lum berry. Of course it still got free hits with stomp but I managed to get a paralysis on the cow then I spammed growl, then I spammed cotton spore just in case so if anything, my Mareep was meant to debuff only until it fainted then Onix comes and the fact that it had good defense already all I did was spam screech to max low defense while tanking Miltank's hits then it only needed one or two rock throws. Yes, both my pokemon got paralyzed and they were female as well but it worked without healing items since I forgot to purchase. Juan's Kingdra, well his entire team, I swept them with my Ninjask. You all know that his first pokemon to send out is Luvdisc, what I did was stall with Ninjask spamming double team, with speed boost as his ability then I spammed sword dance then started decimating his team with aerial ace and since aerial ace never misses unless protect or detect and it's a one shot due to sword dance boost, I never had problems with Kingdra's double team and rest combo. Both of these battles were first try but it was also my first time playing these respective games after getting into Pokemon again after awhile during junior high.
Juan’s kingdra is lucky that it doesn’t have to deal with anything past gen 3. I know most people point to the fairy type being something that could pose a threat to kingdra, but it would also suffer from freeze dry.
Freeze-Dry is lowkey _really_ damn good. Hitting combos like Water/Flying, Water/Ground, Water/Grass, and Water/Dragon for 4x damage, all in one moveslot...
@Robin- FakeASMR Must Be Stopped well,if you're not prepared for Whitney's miltank ,it could easily became a nightmare ,moreover there are times where luck doesn't be on your side. Also, looking back to pokemon metronome league ,mikey just doesn't have a good luck against miltanks.

This entire interaction is still one of the funniest Grunty Boi moments ever! (Especially with the “No, obviously I’m showering you buffoon!”)

I must've been distracted because I never saw star sparkles at all, but saw the green and purple golbatnin front of me. I'll never forget what I said;
"I'll try to catch it, but won't be upset if I don't catch it."
Worst mistake of my life.
Why does everyone I know find a full odds shiny zubat evolution line in an alola game? Seriously it’s happened like 8-9 times including myself
Me, knowing I have a shiny zubat in pokemon go:
Unlucky. When i found a shiny i masterballed it even though there was legendaries to be caught.

I knew immediately when Mikey got the "security alert" that Grunty Boi had broken into Mikey's shower for the sponsor of today's video, Dr.Squatch.

I had a shiny flabebe randomly spawn once in X. And I managed to catch it. Unfortunately I forgot and reset the game. Only to realise straight after.
Shiny Kabuto hurt him physically, but if you've seen his recent Randomizer Nuzlocke, Regular Kabuto hurt him in his soul.

When he was talking about that last Pokémon, the same thing happened to me in Pokémon Y with my Lampent, I didn’t even realize that something was up until he hit level 64 and wasn’t fully evolved that I realized something was wrong
Thank you Mikey for making me feel validated and less stupid-
In my first ever Pokémon play through, in Pokémon X, I was training up my Pokémon on random encounters.
The moment he said Juan's kingdra I started getting double team and rest flashbacks
It was easy for me
Because just training like crazy until you get to certain level you want
I had to resort to baton passing calm minds to my sealeo and still barely won
I did it and it spent me 2 hours and I just got lucky once I won
I love coming back to this video, cuz it taught me to pseudo reset until my starter is the same gender as miltanks
>Juan's Kingdra is brought up
>Me: "I ashamed that 11 year old me went into that fight with Rayquaza."
15:24 yeah, shiny hunting injures me when i punch myself in the stomach for accidentally killing a shiny
Wooooooooow
7:37 Grunty Boi is RIPPED! He must've went to Maylene and Brawly's gym...
Correct me if I’m wrong but it’s 4 times week to Freeze Dry right???
@@eli2210 yep, 4x times weak, would be really funny to watch him take a Freeze Dry xD
Freeze-Dry is lowkey _really_ damn good. Hitting combos like Water/Flying, Water/Ground, Water/Grass, and Water/Dragon for 4x damage, all in one moveslot...
Title:"Pokemon that have wronged me"
Miltank:"Never thought you of all people would summon me"
"The moment you want a shiny Chansey, she has had enough" -Me
I feel like it's hard for all these Pokemon to have wrong Mikey we all know that we should be blaming miltank.
Agreed
Yes
Perfect. Really
@@saysikenow3650 Poison strats, ghost pokemon with curse/hypnosis, the trade machop, geodude self-destruct with attack ev's, onix rock smash spam. These are all valid strats against Whitney, heck, get the dratini from the casino next door or heracross, and you can sweep with no difficulty lol.
