    Im so glad I wasn’t alone in HATING the new compacts for the mineralize skinfinishes. They are so heavy, clunky and just too much packaging. I also agree that I hate that you can’t see the colours. Made my life so much more difficult doing jobs because I have every shade and sometimes doubles of my favourites like give me sun, so I have to open or look at the bottoms of every single one till I find the one I need!

      Aw thanks! I always enjoy hearing that from MAC employees! I try to provide one person's candid thoughts on EVERYTHING in a range of products! And I try to not pay too much attention to how the products are promoted, it's more about how I have personally found them to work.

      Well now I'm conflicted - I DEFINITELY would love and appreciate a new MAC foundation guide, but the old one seems special and basically vintage at this point. Maybe a new one 1x/yr talking through new releases & updated formulas?

    I have super oily skin, I love studio fix for the summer. I use it with a damp beauty blender and it gives me a few extra hours before I need to touch up. I also love that I never need to worry about getting hard pan when I do used my beauty blender, it never changes the texture. I also have the mineralized loose foundation powder, I've never really liked it, but now I'm going to try it wet and mixed with moisturizer and see if that's better.

    Yessss a new video on my birthday! I love that you mentioned the beauty powders! I'm NC20 with dry skin in winter, and normal to dry skin in summer. I have the shade Alpha Girl (from MAC is Beauty collection). I bought it because the sales assistant told me that the Beauty Powders have more product than a MAC Powder Blush, and the Alpha Girl was a perfect blush shade for me.
    I didn't know what to do with it in the first place, since it is a peachy pink sheer powder, and I found out two main uses:
    1) As a blush, and I take a dense kabuki brush to swirl on the powder a few times and deposit on my cheeks, gives a super natural flush and very blendable even with a lot of product.
    2) Blending with another blush. Sometimes I might have a deep/sharp colour (e.g. theBalm Swiss Dot) that lacks pink tones or too deep, I use Beauty Powder after I apply my first blush and just use a blush brush to apply the Beauty Powder to blend with it, works really well.

    This was amazingly helpful. I recently started working at MAC after desperately wanting to for a decade but being too self conscious to apply. Now that I'm in, I've been terrified to do applications because I was not sure what each product is supposed to do, is best suited to which skin type, etc. I've been a customer at MAC for many, many years.. but mostly my love has been the coloured products like lipsticks and eyeshadows. Hence why I'm sitting here on my personal time doing product research on powders and foundations.. :P I took notes from your video. I think they will serve me well!

    Thank you!! This was really helpful and awesome. I really, really like MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, (I'm either Light or Light Plus depending on season etc) because it's quite neutral in undertone and I find it neutralises my foundation really well. I'm warm toned but I lean slightly neutral, and have neutral/cool coloured eyes and hair. It's insanely hard to find a foundation that matches my undertones, so I find sheer/colourless powder doesn't look right on me (or rather doesn't alter my foundation shade enough). MSFN also mattifies my normal to combination/oily skin well, without looking flat or velvety fake, and breaks down and wears nicely - it doesn't go patchy or dry or disappear unevenly. I rarely touch up, but I do find I can do it once and have it look nice, but more than one touch up does tend to cake. I also use the MSFN in Give Me Sun! which is really nice for imitating the warmth my neck and shoulders gain in summer. I'm now really interested in the Bronzing Powder in Golden though...!

    It is so nice to hear someone else hates and thinks the Select Powders and stupid and horrible powders. I couldn't agree more with the fact that they are too hard and no powder is picked up on a brush and that oils deposit into the powder from a brush and create a film. I love your review of this powder and wish it wasn't in production anymore either!

    Thank was awesome. I have been overwhelmed with MACs powders for a long time. i don't live near a counter and their website frankly sucks. I love MAC so thanks for helping a girl figure out what powder is what. I do use Studiofix a lot as a foundation and a powder. I have pretty normal skin now that I have figured out a good moisturizing regime but normally I tend to be on the dry side. Love you.

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  8 років тому

      WHY?! Why does their website suck SO much?!! It's horrible isn't it?! They redesigned that thing like a year ago and it still doesn't work! Editing - or even viewing - your shopping cart rarely works, products so up and then disappear constantly, it's just a piece of crap. Blerg!

    • @daneekaplan4284
      @daneekaplan4284 8 років тому

      +Dustin Hunter Before they redid it I couldn't even see the freaking products on the black background. But that as the only thing that improved. Now you go to the New products dropdown nightmare and it keeps clicking on one of them and then you can only get to the beginning again by clicking "new products" at the top. Idk...in the social medial beauty age they are going to have to step up and improve their online presence because we don't all have access to a counter. I used to at my sisters but since my daughter came out she isn't talking to me....WTF is that? I am not sure it is true but it seems to be a weird coincidence...

      It's my go-to pressed powder. What are your favorites? I wonder if that would make an interesting video... favorite setting powders... too boring? LoL

    • @RebeccaShores
      @RebeccaShores 8 років тому

      The pressed powder I am currently using is the NYX Transparent Blotting Powder for when I want a more satin/matte look, and when I am going for a clean skin look I opt for the NARS Light Reflecting powder. I haven't found a pressed one I am totally in love with. I use the Ethereal Light Ambient lighting Powder by Hourglass, and it's is lovely, but it works better as a finishing powder than a setting powder, so I don't reach for it for touch ups. For general setting and not pressed the RCMA No color Powder has been my go to for years, but it's not handbag friendly.
      I would watch a video on setting powders! Any video comparing products is so useful.

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  8 років тому

      +RebeccaShoresMUA Interesting! It also brings up a topic that could be fun as well and that's "set" powders vs "finish" powders. I tend to use them interchangeably on myself but my skin is so dry it doesn't notice LoL! I use the Hourglass Ambient powders as setting powders on me for example... well sort of LoL I rarely powder my face because anyway because it always seems that most foundations turn matte on their own after a couple minutes on my skin Haha

    Careblend is my favourite (even though i have combination skin)! MSF used to break me out in tiny little bumps every single time I used it (must be the ISOPROPYL PALMITATE that's in it because that ingredient is often listed as comedogenic).
    I also love the macigally cool loose powder in the summer but that's easy to overapply because of the nice fresh feeling when you're using it so I use the 187 stippling brush and I TRY to be careful and mindful, ha ha!

    Great video as usual! Studio fix is one of my staples as powder foundation. I would love a video comparing different powder foundations. I've tried a few, but so far nothing beats mac. I would love to hear your thoughts and maybe try something new. Thanks!

      I have a very old video comparing all of MACs different foundations but many of those are discontinued and new ones are available that aren't in the video. I love doing videos like that - I'm a foundation junkie - but they are so often discontinued that it's hard to do an overview without it being irrelevant within a week or two of uploading! LoL!

      Thank you! Is it actually still being made tho? MAC is always ambiguous about these things... stores may still be getting stock burnt might be gone, it might not. Awhile back they took Vellum eyeshadow off the site but it's still in Pro stores. Doesn't make any sense - I think it's just a mistake they haven't fixed yet. How's Orlando? ❤️

    After the first time I watched your video, I got the close to nothing powde, and tried it out for like 2 months: I love it. I took the dark tone to warm up my face as a contour and bronzer. I love it! I have a yellow undertone. I am coming back to your video because I need a powder to set my under eyes, and I am thinking of getting the close to nothing one to set my under eyes. But I am afraid that it wouldn't match my skin tone since they don't have a wide variety of shades in this one. I don't like translucent setting powders because even the yellow ones become greyish on me. What do you think I should get ? I wear an NC42 in Mac studio fluid, and a C5 in face and body fluid. I don't want to highlight my undereyes, hate that look (also because no one needs to highlight eye bags). I just want a powder that adds a little bit of coverage under my eyes, sets the concealer in place, and matches my skin tone to perfection.

    Great video. But i still don't know what to buy. I have an oily t zone and i want a natural finish powder( doesn't matter if it's colored or translucent) to control my oils. I want a matt, but not drying product. Can you help me choose one?

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  7 років тому

      Special K 30 I've never tried that one so I can't say but MAC really only makes one or two powder foundations. Most of these are setting powders and won't give any real coverage over bare skin.

    I have never payed attention to MAC powders! I think I never even tried any of them, except for the MSF in soft and gentle, because after reading lots of raving reviews on it I ended up getting it, and I haven't used it (only swatched) because I find the shimmer/glitter particles are too noticeable. Overall I have about 6 highlighters (let's see...MSF in soft&gentle, Benefit high beam, burberry fresh glow?, lush feeling younger, Nars albatross, a MAC cream color base and Kevin Aucoin candlelight) and I think soft&gentle is the one I like the least. I have dry and fair skin, and I seek a glow-from-within effect to use in my everyday day-time look, and out of these what I really enjoy using is the KA highlighter

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  8 років тому

      The MAC MSF powders are currently the closest thing they have to everyone else's powder highlighters - I've seen images surfacing online if a new product launching from them tho - I don't know if it will be permanent but it's a powder highlighter. I have zero information on it but it exists! LoL! I have fair and dry skin as well and because of that I prefer to highlight with a cream or liquid product that has a lot of clear glossiness to it. Powders just look blah on me. A few drops of oil rubbed into my palms and pressed into the high points of the face does he trick!

    I wish they would give the compact powders new limited edition designs. I love the black plain compact but switch it up, I would also make some glitter compacts as well. Try something new and fantastic. I love the Blot pressed Powder & Careblend pressed powder.

      Ugh! FINE! LoL! I actually thought about it but this video in particular was flipping me shit and I had to upload it three times before it worked so by the time it did go live I didn't want to look at it anymore and I was just hoping nobody would ask. Haha! I'll take a look at it and see if I can add a list with time stamps. I prefer it that way myself... I just wanted to be lazy 😂😉

    Does the MSF Natural leave a satin or pearlescent finish? I'm looking for a non-matte finishing powder because I find it makes my face look dead...
    Also, while Studio Fix has really amazing instant coverage, it's almost impossible to find a shade which works with my medium tone, yellow undertone shades, as the Studio Fixes have a red undertone.
    And all these powders are still available :)

    • @MissJadeGreen
      @MissJadeGreen 7 років тому

      I find that MSF Natural leaves a really nice almost-matte-but-not-quite finish, when I use other powders I get annoyed that they look flat and powdery, or super velvety (and fake) whereas MSFN just pulls my complexion together without looking too "done".

      Amy Oram I would think Light would work best. You can also chat with a MAC consultant on their website and ask them just to verify but I would recommend Light over Light Plus.

    Thanks for this video. Does the mac prep n prime translucent powder work well on darker skin?

    • @DustinHunter
      @DustinHunter  8 років тому

      On darker skin tones it's possible to get a "cloudy" appearance with the Translucent Powder if you use a fair amount (I've never found a translucent powder that doesn't do this if you use too much - some worse than others). The deeper Blot Powders or MSF Powders are both good alternatives.
