And now: An Introduction to A Complete Guide to MAC Eyeshadows.
I want to start this video off by saying something many of you already know: I don’t work for MAC, I’ve never worked for MAC, I have no immediate plans to work for MAC. I also don’t work WITH MAC; I’ve never been on their press list for promotional product or even information about new collections - not for lack of trying though, trust me! They’ve just never been interested. Therefor: All the products in this video were purchased by me - over a long period of time.
Other disclaimers and bits of information for those of you who enjoy reading:
When I say “every MAC eyeshadow” I am referring to MAC's classic eyeshadows that are available in a black pot or a Pro Pan Refill AND currently in production at the time of filming. These are the same ones MAC has been producing since longer than I can remember, and if you’re watching this you probably already know them well!
What about limited edition and discontinued shadows?! I used the US website as a guide for what’s currently available because it’s what I have the easiest access to myself. If the website listed a product as limited edition or it was nowhere to be found on the site, I removed it from my palette (just for this video, silly) and didn’t include it. Product lines change constantly; new shadows launch, old ones are discontinued - but even I was surprised how many seem to have been removed from production over the last year or so (almost all their purples are gone along with my favorite: Silver Ring). Always check with your local MAC store/counter before you start hunting things down on EBay though, if you think I missed something that’s still available, it's possible that either MAC’s website was incorrect at the time of filming or that they've brought it back since.
Thank you and enjoy!
Dustin

Oh my god! Someone is actually making a video about MAC shadows! I thought that we had all forgotten about those things! I still have a bunch but they are in the old school solid black plastic palettes without the window in them. I should dig those out again. I used to be a huge fan of vapour and dazzlelight.
faeriesmak Haha! This was the reaction I was wondering if I’d get from this haha! xoxo
Yay! I totally win! One of my favorite videos that you have made is the one where you showed how you used MAC strobe lotion, I think, in the woods. I was just thinking about that..and that I found you when your Chicken at MAC video popped up in my side bar. You have always been my go to for anything MAC related.
It was HUGELY informative, knowing what works and what doesn’t is massively helpful. I took screenshots of the swatches that you so kindly labeled and classified.
It’s always a pleasure watching you. Especially when you crack up, it’s contagious and makes me happy. Love and hugs!! And thank you.
I don’t even use MAC...I just came here for your voice ❤️❤️
Rosanna Wissman Haha Thanks! 🤗
Years ago all I used on my eyes were 2 MAC shadows, Shroom on the lid and Satin Taupe in my crease... oh and on fancy days I added a little bit of Club. Things were a lot easier back then 🤔☺️
matter_and_form Ha simpler times...
Hope this is the start of more to come. This beauty community needs you.
This is one of the best eyeshadow videos I have ever seen because if it’s simplicity and clarity, thank you.
Fran Campbell Thank you very much! I’m glad it’s helpful!
Dustin Hunter it will certainly help me when buying and it has gone straight into my favourites 👍🏽
Hey Fran! Nice to meet you. We have the same last name. We could be long lost cousins!
Welcome BACK!!!! I missed you Dustin
This is such a great video 💕 I love that you haven’t left MAC by the wayside like most makeup channels...their eyeshadows are fantastic for the most part! I’m so glad they re-released Tete-a-Tint & Kid, and released Uninterrupted in pro-pan size...I totally agree about the wet/dry thing, using a wet brush directly on the pan is risky & will cause *severe* hard-pan with a lot of their shadows...could listen to you talk about makeup all day, your voice is so relaxing 😌
Christen Cloar Thank you! I filmed a “pre-video” days before this one but in watching it back I realized it was just full of stuff I needed to say for myself more than anything - so I didn’t edit or upload it. In that video I actually talked about making THIS one as a sort of “test subject” - because MAC doesn’t get a lot of attention and I really don’t know how popular it is anymore!
I think there’s just SO much out there and SO many “influencers” are delivering the sales pitch for brands in a panicked way, its hard to see the truth... the waters are too murky! At any rate, I’m curious to see how helpful people find this or if MAC is just too outside the popularity loop nowadays.
holy crap, thanks for the tip off, somehow I missed that they brough tete-a-tint, kid, and uninterrupted back!
Thank you so much for this! I still love all of my MAC shadows, but no one ever talks about them anymore. Your channel will always be one of my favorites.
richardjsbabygirl Thank you!
Ahhhh you are such a pleasure to watch. This is why I love you. You don’t jump to trends you concentrate on your favorites.
Anguska “Trends are designed for the anxious.” 😑🤗
I love, love your videos! In a day and age where makeup looks are close to looking “drag”, I like the fact that you review things in a more every-day, understated way. I wished I’d see more of your contributions in my feed. ❤️
I totally get that about pigment...especially with blush. People go crazy over pigmented blush and I'm like gimme something buildable! Lovely soothing voice.👍
grey rinnon Thank you! And I agree with you on the blush! It’s SO hard to work with blushes that are too soft or pigmented - especially if you’re fair skinned! You can go over the top really easily! Haha!
I have missed you, always great to get a notification from you, thank you for the great content you create 😘
darklausal23 Thank you!
I didn’t realise how much I missed you until you popped up in my subs. So glad to see you 💕💕💕
I’m late on commenting, but I love that you’re talking about Mac. I’m embarrassed to say how old my Mac shadows are, but I still love them and use them all the time. I’m not a fan of the loosely packed shadows that are so popular today. My two fave shadows of all time are still Woodwinked and Patina. Thanks for the video!
You are spot on about MAC Carbon. It gets a lot of crap for not being super pigmented. I personally like Carbon bc it's easier to use and build up. I personally don't get why you'd want a super matte black as things could get very messy and difficult to use but oh well
watertownnative Exactly! I think it’s much easier to use a black cream product and “set” it with a shadow like Carbon if you want DARK black than it is to try to use a rich, dark, soft black shadow and not get any all over your face! Haha! Thank you!
I think many youtubers live in this bubble of "it looks good for swatches" but neglect if it is actually easy to use and work with. A product may be more pigmented but more difficult to work. Great for photos maybe but a pain to use in reality. A product also may not swatch well but work better. Black shadow is not something I want super pigmented. I want to build it up and I do want to avoid it falling all over my face lol
I love watching your guide to MAC makeup! I’m watching this tomorrow morning cause it’s currently 1am here 😫 so excited and happy to watch your new vid. ☺️
My warm MAC palette is the only one palette I own besides the lorac unzipped and a couple of quads. More than enough and I really enjoy them💕
When I saw a video from you pop up I was sure it was going to be about the new Bronze Goddess collection. I'm glad you talked about the MAC shadows because they are sooooo underrated. I still love mine because I'm tired of gimmicky palettes from which I only use half the shades. Let's bring MAC shadows back to the forefront!!
Susanne - RangerMommy Haha I was JUST talking about palettes in response to a comment earlier! I agree fully with this!
And no... no Bronze Goddess video plans this year. I did my last one last year and when I make a decision about something I usually stick to it! I’ll need to see a little more effort and creativity and possibly a personal apology from them for that Bronze Goddess Eau de Parfum stink in a bottle! LOL!!!! 🤣😉🤗
Yes, yes, I know what you said about Bronze Goddess last year but you know, time heals all wounds and I thought maybe you had gotten over the searing of your nostril membranes by now. Apparently not :(
Susanne - RangerMommy Haha nope. In all seriousness though, setting aside the whole fragrance fiasco entirely (it’s just perfume and makeup after all) I took a look at this year’s collection but wasn’t “wowed” by anything - certainly not enough to warrant buying online without seeing it in person. The last several years worth of BG collections have been unimpressive and at some point I have to say, “I’m not getting this anymore because it keeps disappointing me and costing me money.”
I love how professional and Informative your videos are! ❤️
klaudia hennessy Thank you very much! 🤗✨
It’s so good to have you back. Kisses from Croatia.
Ahhhhh I’ve missed your face! Bless you and your vast collection. My MAC store is so far away so I always buy online and it’s difficult to discern whether I’d wear it or not especially since their descriptions on their website is usually lacking.
Shelby M. Thank you! I hope this helps! I wanted to swatch them next to each other instead of individually because I figured even if you can’t completely trust the screen you’re watching these on, you might have some of these and can use them to compare with the shadows around them. I hope this is helpful!
Dustin Hunter Yes, it’s extremely helpful, thank you! Categorizing them by finish was the best way to go about it I think. Now I can use my own as reference to see what the colors and finishes look like on the skin. Thank you so much for your content-you’re truly a gem and I appreciate all the work you put in to help all of us. 💖
Hey you! welcome back, I’ve missed your warm and funny videos. 👍😊❤️ With all the amazing brands getting pushed these days my go to, I know it’s gonna work for me look is still Mac, and mostly matte. ( I’m getting older) ha It’s blanc type, malt, quarry and either smut or mystery over the liner and outer v. Always the smoky eye, whether it’s lunch or diner or that walk or shame.
BellaSC Haha! I love all of this! xo
I'm so happy to see a new video from you, Dustin!
satinboys Thank you darlin!
Always a pleasure to get a video from you!!!
Thanks for sharing! Ugh, I totally agree with the comments on pigmentation. Sometimes you want something sheer and buildable. I use carbon often, especially when working on clients since it's so nice to be able to build up shadows. I am waiting for the day someone comes out with satin buildable brights.
Rebecca Shores I like that idea! I like buildable shadows for adding hints of color or altering a shade slightly. They’re handy but definitely not trendy at the moment.
So glad to see you back!!! Missed you so much!
Good to see you again Dustin
Thank you for this video it’s so informative and also entertaining, I love MAC eyeshadows because they were my first high quality product and nowadays everyone it’s only speaking about overhyped brands
Maga Zitro Thanks! I was thinking about this over the last couple weeks - I know MAC isn’t as trendy as they used to be (in some ways for good reason IMO, they repeatedly launched crap collections and I think people were tired of it and moved on), but what IS the trendy brand nowadays? I couldn’t think of it. It seems that what’s popular is anything new from any brand - as long as the most popular “influencers” are telling you they’re “shook” and you NEED to buy it.
Very helpful.I m Brazilian and these informations will help me a lot.Thank u very much
Wow, you've done it again! Another timeless review! I appreciate every video you put out! I hope you're well :)
Your videos are the best. Been watching you for so many years. I appreciate all you do. Thank you 😊
Great to have you back! I love your great informative and honest reviews in these crazy, mostly freebie beauty guru times. Looking forward to hearing your soothing voice more often!
I don't like the lustres except for Tempting or Retrospect. I'm running out of MAC eyeshadows to get. I love them so much!
watertownnative Haha I know that feeling!
yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great to have another video from you
Thank you for the information, very thorough, I will defently write colours when I go shopping from your review.
Missed you!!!! Very informative and of course love your voice!
Welcome back! You've been missed!
great video! I miss back in 07-08 when MAC was everything to the people on YT, haha! Anyway I wish Trax was a different formula.... I have this old small 6 pan MAC palette that had Trax in it and it is really nice - pigmented and the shimmer actually shows up!
This was brilliant. Really loved it and so informative. Thanks!
LOVED this! Im a huge fan of Mac shadows (in general)
This was super helpful! Thank you!
God, I’ve missed you. Your attitude and candor always makes me laugh. Thank you for another great video.
Gosh I missed your soothing voice and informative KNOWLEDGE Dustin!
I think of you every time I go to a
mac counter! Good to see your face 😊
Hi Dustin, I loved this, fully agree on the Carbon comment, I'd rather use brushes that allow me precise control than strongly pigmented shadows :) Wonderful informative video... thank you!
Sonia G. Awesome! Thank you!!
thanks for this video - i am starting to fall back in love with Mac so this was very useful!!
Helen Harrow Thank you! I wasn’t sure how this would go because nobody talks much about MAC at the moment - I don’t know how well they sell anymore.
Ahhh, so nice to see you! Hope you have an amazing day 🌸
honeycutt04 Thank you!!! Back atcha!
Thanks very much, I know waaay late to this party, but so helpful!
Gayle Morgan Never too late to comment! Thank you! I’m glad you liked this!
Guide to Mac lipstick finishes? Love your videos! Used to watch all the way back when you made these types of videos 😊
I'd love a series of these for MAC blushes too !! :))) great video, ty!
ndorm21 I’m planning on that one! Thank you!
I love your MAC videos
THANK YOU!!! You're doing the lord's work here
Dulce Ximena LOL!!
SUPER HELPFUL VIDEO!! Thank you soooo much!!!
Erica Sapienza Yay! You’re most welcome!
Cool, nice to see your face (and thanks for the swatches)!
That veluxe pallette! Lol! So cute :)
You are wonderful. Thank you!
Your voice is so soothing!
^_^
I am repeating myself here but i missed that soothing voice of yours hehe. I would not say : please film more often (though a selfish part of me would want to), because i have been loving that you are filming without forcing it. It is a joy to watch a person genuinely enjoying the process. Love ya!
secretlyultimate Thank you! I have already filmed another one that I’ll be editing and uploading soon (it’s just a chatty, GRWM kind of video - very informal and filmed on my phone).
Over the years I have often had this nagging thought of, “you should upload more!” But even when I look back at my videos from 6 or 7 or 8 years ago... I rarely uploaded weekly unless I was doing some kind of a theme/group like Halloween videos. Typically I notice that I always uploaded about once a month.
That’s just an observation Haha It really has nothing to do with anything. LOL But thank you! Hugs!!!
Dustin Hunter then i will be wishing for a monthly fix hehe. Much love from Paris ^_^ (am in good mood. FINALLY it is getting warmer hhh)
secretlyultimate Yay! Spring is here as well. We have had a couple really beautiful days but the weather is still very unpredictable (springtime). Summer is my favorite season so I’m just excited to see the leaves coming out and hear the birds singing again.
Summer sounds like LIFE to me! Give me a nice, warm, looooong when you can hear the trees, bugs wizzing around and birds singing.
secretlyultimate Long DAYS! DAYS! Haha! Not nice loooooong whatever... LOL!
Dustin Hunter hhh got that. I am the queen of forgetting words hehe. 😙
Dustin! I got “Chicken at MAC” in my head as soon as I saw the thumbnail and title. 😂
Steph Likes Makeup and Stuff Hahah! One day I should release a vinyl addition of that with dance remixes LOL
Thank you for this video!
You back!
Sarah A I am! ... wait, from where?
I love you and I missed you!!
Thanks it helped a lot
I friggin love this! It's like the old days - It was a mac pigments video that brought me to you many moons ago.
Sushi Flower was always a favourite of mine. I need to get a new Stars 'n Rockets at some point (one of my first!)
To this day, "Bisque" is the only eyeshadow I've actually completely finished - it was a proud moment, haha (I guess transition shades I use more of than anything else)
loopyfrog Haha Thank you! This felt very “old school” to film LOL Do you have Pink Pearl Pigment? It’s like Stars N Rockets AMPED up and in loose powder form. SO PRETTY!
oooh no, that sounds great! *makes a note, hehe
Thank you for this video! If you'd ever want to make another one on this topic, would love to watch you show how to apply each one and point out the differences. Your video was super clear. I swatched the ones I have but still it's not easy for me to get it.
mirpaterska That’s an interesting idea. Thanks for the suggestion 😊
Dustin you are genius.. we love u
Yosra Ryan Hehe thank you x
You’re delightful to listen to.
L B That is so sweet! Thank you!
Great video!! Love how informative you are. What do you think of the new synthetic brushes?
Thank you! I haven’t really tried them... just the 109 which is a face brush and not an eye brush so I don’t know how helpful that opinion would be. I talked about it in a recent get ready with me (GRWM) video though. The brush is in the title so it’s easy to find if you want to check it out.
Are those new glasses? You are looking positively marvellous!
Mary Gaudet Thank you! They are the same old glasses actually 🤓 I’ve had these for four years now I think? It’s time for new ones and this time I may switch them up. I have a pair of wire-framed “dad glasses” that I really like haha! They are about 4 prescriptions ago though so I don’t wear them often but I like them and I have been thinking I might switch out of the old dark plastic frames next time x
I love you!! I’m sure it’s been 10 years of this love lolx
Thanks for the thorough walk though of the different shadows. The swatches really helped me.
Here's a question. How to disguise melasma (upper lip and cheek) without looking cakey.
MrEmichan Thanks! I’m sure there are a ton of tutorials on UA-cam and blog posts on the topic that would be helpful but I’ll throw in my own two cents as well :) I’ve tried “bleaching” creams on dark spots that I have and have seen little in the way of results (certainly not anything that warrants the irritation and sensitivity they can cause). A high coverage foundation would be my go-to. My personal favorite is Double Wear Max Cover from Estée Lauder - I like liquids and it’s a liquid (easier to blend if you’re between shades and most of us are). I don’t think it’s cakey looking at all and can camouflage just about anything! Another good one is It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye concealer - I just favor the Lauder one because it’s a little smoother IMO. Hope that helps!
I should say something intelligent but I’m too damn tired, so I’m going with a simple, YAY DUSTIN! Glad to see you and you’re welcome for reading.
De Ville Hahaha!!! Thank YOU!!!
You should talk about the new foundations!
yes, what you said about BEAUTY MARKED!!! >:( I don't even wear makeup much anymore, but I will listen to you talk about anything :D
This video tickled me pink (my favorite part of the video was when you said that!) I remember when you were bummed they switched the palette design, but I see you have switched over. What is your favorite eyeshadow formula nowadays?
Siobhanne73 I still like the classic MAC formula and I haven’t really tried the reformulated versions enough to know HOW different their permanent shades are (the ones in the spring kits are all new colors I believe). I just know how to work with them and find them reliable.
Aside from MAC I have really enjoyed the eyeshadows from Melt Cosmetics. I have three or four of their stacks - they are very pigmented so I don’t find them as versatile as MAC (one of the things I like about MAC shadows is that they are more buildable than most of the popular shadows out there right now) but I think they’re good quality and the colors are interesting.
I still like Inglot shadows as well. Usually when I am doing a drag look I’ll reach for my Inglot palette and my Melt stacks.
Hi Dustin, can you do a video about MACs mixing mediums and which ones are you fave? Do you use any other brands? I’m new to using them, I apologize if you’ve already done a video. ❤️😁
ItzMeMoni M No apology necessary! I haven’t done a video on them but it’s been on my list. I actually talked to a friend of mine who used to manage a MAC Pro store years and years ago and I’m seeing if I can get her help with it!
So glad I watched this. I just ordered goldbit online. Not even going to open it. I hate dry eyeshadows.
Lani A Glad this was helpful! MAC has been reformulating their eyeshadows apparently - I don’t know if Goldbit has changed, I haven’t tried it, it MAY be better than it was??? Or it may not. Just a heads up to let you know though! 🤗
Dustin Hunter oh ok. I will swatch goldbit at the store to see if it's improved. I don't have any lustre formulas but maybe goldbit will be my first. I'm also glad they brought back kid, uninterrupted and tete-a-tint. I didn't get to purchased them the first time they were around.
Lani A Those are all great colors. Surprised at the things they discontinue. Often they seem to be some of the best ones!
I would like to hear you opinion on juvias place pallets. I don’t know if you have any but if you please I would love a video. Also which foundation are you loving right now.
Nevaeh Rains Hi! I think I have three of their palettes and they are fine (one arrived broken but they shipped a replacement so it was taken care of). The pigmentation is outstanding if that’s what you need. I don’t use them often myself but it’s mostly because I don’t use pre-made palettes that much. I prefer pans that I can mix and match for whatever I’m doing (I sort by finish and then by color and it makes things easier.)
The problem I always run into with pre-made palettes is that I may just want one or two shadows in each one and I don’t have the room for 6 or more palettes just laying around on a table while I’m working! The colors vary and the finishes vary in a single palette and it just makes my life more complicated (it’s why you haven’t seen me do a lot of palette reviews on UA-cam, even though they are one of the biggest trends over the past few years).
Foundation lately? Totally unexciting! MAC’s Mineralize Loose Powder foundation. It’s quick and looks fine for what I need. It’s actually what I wore on my wedding day! I thought I’d be more fancy but nope... takes me all of 30 seconds to apply and I’m done LOL
So I started wearing makeup 15 years ago and of course it was MAC. And I didn’t know what I was doing back then so I just bought the colors I liked. So I of course I have all the ones you mentioned 😂 I used Beauty Marked on top of my eye liner all the time. Now I was 20 and it was a long time ago so what did I know. And I remember Trax being one of the first colors I ever bought. So I remember it and it as meaning to me, but yea, I don’t think it was favorite. And all those damn glittery shadows! They were so bad. The worst are Rose and Kitschmas pigments 😩 just fall out every where! But now I’m married with a baby and I literally can’t remember the last time I wore makeup let alone bought anything. I’m so out of touch with what’s new. It makes me so sad. I used to be so obsessed with it all. I love makeup so much 😊
Mostlysun Hahah! I FEEL your pain with Rose and UGH... Kitchmas pigment! So terrible!!!
Kitchmas was one that always seemed to turn up in holiday collections - for years it seemed!
I’ll tell you how I finally learned to live with those (because it took some time to figure it out):
Mixed with body lotion. That’s the ONLY way I think they are worth anything. A little Kitchmas mixed with body lotion gives skin a pretty, shimmery finish for special occasions or for when you want to look like a Twilight vampire on summer vacation. 🤣🤗
Dustin Hunter ha! Yes me too! I used a lot of shades mixed with body lotions. I always loved glitter and glowing. It’s so funny now to see all this body shimmer stuff now, like I’ve been doing this for year! And I got dirty looks and told I look like a disco ball 😂
Old skool MAC yeauh !
Thank you for this!! Would you recommend using the same ideology for their blushes?
mzebony You’re welcome and thank you and yes! I actually have most of MACs blushes (I think I am missing 5 or 6 of them) and it was a tossup for me on which video to do - obviously I settled on shadows instead but I would like to do a video like this with their blushes as well (I also use their blushes as eyeshadows if I want to - MAC won’t tell you they are tested for use in the eye area though, so that’s entirely a personal choice).
yes yes , i love how to the point you are!. Dustin, I was wondering for a bold like indian bridal eye.. what shadows would you gravitate towards? (just seeking some guidance lol, i hate what i have been googling so far).
Livelyy B It would depend on the colors and effect I wanted - I tend to work with creams and powders a lot for bolder looks. What have you found so far that you aren’t liking?
Just very yellow/greenish gold &black/cold toned brown and thick black eyeliner. Seems that everything is super shiny and not cohesive or maybe that is because there´s no dimension in the bolder looks. .
I´m all for some glitter and glam, but would like warmer tones (reds, browns) and a true gold shadow. As a non Indian, I am very picky with my bridal look...terrified to have it done in a way that wont suit me! lol
Livelyy B I would suggest just playing around with different “inspired by” looks - think about what you like about Indian bridal looks when you picture them in your head or see them online and make a list of those likes so that you can see it all in front of you - breaking it down may help clarify what you want and help you prioritize (it will also help your makeup artist if you’re working with one).
When I got married last year I had this whole thing about my hair - I like to change my hair a lot but I also didn’t want to do something that didn’t look like ME and then look back at the pictures and go, “What was I thinking?!” I ended up going completely natural with a very “normal” haircut and - even though the week after the wedding I grabbed the bleach and some orange hair color - I am still happy about my decision because when I look at the photos I look like my most vulnerable self - with my husband and my dog hehe and my closest family and friends - and it makes the day seem even more special to me because of it.
As an aside: My favorite gold is actually from MAC but it’s one of their pigments. It’s called Rose Gold and it’s what I think of when I picture the color gold in my head: warm and rich and luxe looking. It was recommended to me by a friend of mine years ago after I was complaining about MAC’s Gold pigment and how green it is (it’s an ugly sort of “raw” looking greenish yellow gold that’s not warm and pretty). I haven’t searched for it but if they still make Rose Gold pigment it’s well worth picking up if you want to experiment with golden tones.
Dustin Hunter thank you SOOOOO much! For an in depth reply and with your story. I appreciate the time you have taken, and your consideration to give your full opinion on my concern. I will be checking out your suggestion and will keep playing around with makeup!. Maybe I will send you the pic of my wedding makeup 😂 . Again, thank you so much !!chao!
🤗
Livelyy B You’re welcome! I would love to see your wedding makeup! You can always DM me on Instagram @thedustinhunter OR just email me at dusty@dustinhunter.com.
I still love my MAC eyeshadows and couldn't manage to part from them (well, beside the shitty ones) when I did a huge decluttering following my forced no-makeup period (I had a bad psychosomatic eczema which made impossible to wear anything on my eyes without looking like a reptile). If that's being old, well I AM!
How to use shadows wet. Do we wet the brush in water and dip it in shadow. Pls explain.
Mayfower Lily Pretty much, yes! Not soaking wet though, just damp. Water works or any kind of liquid mixing medium (a lot of people use Fix+ by MAC but there are several).
I like my MAC single shadows (I only have a few so far) but recently I bought a 9-pan palette (LE) where the shadow size is smaller. It was expensive and I am just not happy with it...the colours fade and the shimmer ends up all over my face even though I use Painterly.
I wonder what your experience is with the small 9-pan palettes. Is this a one-off or should I stick to buying singles?
Also Is it ok if I say YOU ARE SO COOL!! Mellow, practical, funny with just that little bit of sarcasm...I could listen to you all day. 💖💕💜
Jenny M dunno about nowadays but back in ye Olde days they used to outsource a lot of LE products to companies they don't use for their main line of products. So that could be your problem.
I have Amber X 9 and do enjoy. I have 2 of their personality palettes and like them a lot but I have heard that many don't like their premade palettes such as those 9 pan palettes. It's always best to go for their permanent eyeshadow pans. Most w the exception of many of their lustres are phenomenonal!
Jenny M I’ve never tried the smaller, 9-pan palettes so I can’t speak to the quality. I do know MAC in particular has been lacking in quality control for their limited edition collections (including palettes) for years! Limited edition brushes in particular are completely unlike their full-sized, permanent counterparts. Different manufacturing plants from entirely different countries yield very different results. Limited edition collections and pre-packaged kits/palettes don’t seem to be developed with professionals (who demand consistency) in mind.
I have the burgundy x 9 palette and I do really like it, but I did notice that the shimmery shades in particular do have a lot of fallout. I still use it everyday though and I love it as a way to try 9 new shades without paying for full size pans. Since using the burgundy x 9 palette I've purchased 3 of the satin shades in pro pans because I like them so much, and I didn't see a noticeable difference in the performance of the smaller LE shadows vs the normal larger ones 😊
You're always pretty to look at xx
Mary Hitchins Aw! Thank you!
Please make more videos... I really miss your opinions and take on make up.
I am slowly building up the courage/discipline to stop purchasing more eyeshadows... so I have been rediscovering MAC eyeshadows again.
You would think MAC would have reformulated "Beauty Mark" ages ago. Especially with so many other completing brands poping up with better over all formulas.
kevseb66 Yes you’d think so!
LMAO@beauty marked comment, my thoughts exactly! it has to be the worst e/s in the history of terrible e/s. btw, you should film more often, we miss your pretty face :)
notyetanotheralias Girl I just uploaded five videos like a month ago! It ain’t my fault if they can’t even crack 500 views! LOL
For serious tho - If I don’t upload makeup videos people think I’m not around or something.
I also updated my website and have been writing weekly blog posts and sharing photos there instead of on Instagram or Facebook, etc. (I actually have a whole piece I wrote about Social Media and why I don’t use it much but that’s also... on the website) 😉
And yes Beauty Marked! WTF right?! So bad. I saw someone sing it’s praises once on YT and I was like, “One of us MUST be high right now because I know you’re not saying what I think you’re saying!”
I prefer to use Mac shadows because they are the only shadows that don’t make my eyes water I think that’s because they are tightly packed and the ones I use have minimal fall out I couldn’t live without omega and wedge
Alison Pollard Very good point! I have had the same experience with a lot of more loosely packed shadows myself.
Dustin Hunter Most days I just can’t be bothered to tap the hell out of a brush to get rid of the excess and pray as soon as I leave my house my makeup isn’t a mess as soon as I arrive at work
What is the difference between Deep Truth and In The Shadows, they both swatched like they're identical?
Leanne Craig They’re similar. I’ll tell you how MINE compare: In The Shadows is a much softer press, yielding greater initial color payoff (but also more fallout). It’s a bit brighter overall compared to Deep Truth which is a deeper blue (no pun intended).
With MAC’s recently alleged reformulation, I haven’t checked out the new Deep Truth so I don’t know if it’s different or not. IF they both had the same texture though, In The Shadows is still a brighter blue that looks more cobalt compared to Deep Truth which is more Navy.
@@DustinHunter Thank you! Just found out they discontinued Deep truth and it looking for a dupe. I might give In the Shadows a try.
Leanne Craig So disappointing they got rid of another classic shadow that’s so good! They’re really trying to revamp their line to fall in line with what’s trending right now, which is whatever the biggest Instagram “influencer” says.
I love the idea of Beauty Marked but it is just absolutely shite to work with.
Neala Completely! I can believe they discontinued Copperplate and Silver Ring and kept that crap!
they discontinued Copperplate???
Lidalgirl Right?! Unless it’s just not on the website right now as a mistake, it’s gone.
Maybe Beauty Marked is to make beauty marks.
An updated foundation guide
Speaking of MAC: I'm utterly shocked about their new website. Why it's not black anymore. why!
(let's not even mention the fact that my all time favourites Freshwater and Satellite Dreams have been discontinued...)
Lidalgirl So many good ones are gone. They got rid of almost all of their purple shadows. I think there is maybe one now? LOL
what's their problem with purple, I wonder! what do they tell people with green eyes now to make them spend more money?
see you later
They recently reformulated their permanent line.
Fairskin Rebel Where did you read that? I require proof and links otherwise I say LIES! All LIES!!! LOL
Dustin Hunter um... go to any counter that sells MAC cosmetics. All the new products that are being reformulated will be out in May. Some are out now. The Patrick Star shadows are the new formula. The Extra Dimension shadows will stay the same.
Fairskin Rebel Oh I got it! I haven’t heard of any press releases on that yet so when you said “they recently reformulated” I took that to mean past tense so you had me confused (as if it was already done and everything in their permanent line had been relaunched already)!
Curious to see what people think of the new formulas when they completely relaunch their permanent line like you’re saying. I’ll have to go “um... ask any counter” and see what they know about the new formulas! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I wonder why the bigger bloggers aren’t talking about this yet? Not that I follow everyone of course but I tried to search the web for ANY info on it and came up with nothing! Probably as soon as I type this there will be a post on it though huh? I know MAC been behind consumer trends for awhile now but they must just be THAT unpopular nowadays that people don’t care anymore! Why do you think bloggers aren’t talking about something as big as a recent total reformulation of MACs permanent line?
Fairskin Rebel I was talking to Christine from Temptalia today about this because she reviewed the recent Starrr quads (for Spring/Summer 2018) and she did note the difference - not necessarily better or worse, just slightly different (ex: smoother but faded faster, etc). I think the first quads were the same but those quads all had permanent colors in them didn’t they? Mostly anyway. I donno. Who can say? Haha! MAC rarely says much and whenever I’ve asked MAC a question I get a totally different answer depending on who happens to answer the phone! I’ll keep an ear out for any official word from them on a change in ingredients. Wouldn’t surprise me - I mentioned it in a post about these (that it was past time for them to change) - hopefully it’s all for the better and not a decline in quality like their brushes have taken over the years.
Dustin Hunter For now the cool and warm palettes are the same. The x9 are changed. Blushes,:mineral and original are also changed. ( many are complaining that Warm Soul is not the same) They quietly, ( or the Mac artists did) announced around Christmas that the complete change was coming. The brushes are even worse now since going synthetic. The shadows that are staying the same, for now, are Bangin Brilliant and Extra Dimension. Pick up the new Kid, Uninterrupted etc.. this is the new formula.
i don't know too much matte on the eyelid makes the eye looks dull young or old
matte looks good in pictures or camera but in real life it is too dull ... my humble opinion
Moony Noony Things absolutely translate different in person vs on camera. It’s part of the reason why I cringe at beauty trends (you need perspective and to take these things into account)! Entirely flat, matte finishes can look lifeless in person (whether it’s on the lids, face, lips, a wall in your house or on a car LOL). On camera, however, they allow you to see color and dimension better where too much shine might just look like glare.
I have been ranting at the television for the past two seasons of Drag Race because so many of the queens are over-using the metallic highlighters that are so trendy. On camera it not only shows off every uneven bit of skin but it muddies up the look so you can’t appreciate the work that went into the makeup. It’s like watching people do fx makeup who just cover EVERYTHING in fake blood - you loose dimension and things start to look very one note.
