I'm so glad I found your channel Kelli! All of your videos are so helpful ^^ Now I can attempt to fix my nail instead of cutting them all. Not only that but before I started watching your tutorials I couldn't even paint my nails without getting polish all over my cuticles. Now I can properly paint my nails AND make them look adorable. I just wanted to say Thank you for teaching and inspiring me with your nail art and tips!
Kristen is right. You’re absolutely amazing Kelli. Thank you so much for the awesome & helpful videos. 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️ Sending lots of love from Switzerland Barbara 🥰🥰🤗🤗
I am a qualified beautician and when I did my training over 30 years ago we were taught to rip the tissue to avoid hard defining edges. Also you should allow enough tissue to put over the edge of the nail and gently ease it over the edge and glue it in place. This strengthens the tip too. Also it will be invisible if done correctly.
Long time since you commented sorry, but would tea bag be hard to rip? Would you use facial tissue or toilet paper? Also I feel like normally I wouldn't use a square nearly as big as Kelli did here... because I am avoiding using too much glue too far up the nail. Do you think she could have gone smaller? Thanks
+eabnailart I'm so glad I could help! You should try using a strengthening base coat - apply it every other day and your nails will grow stronger and faster!
Did this ( but used cuccio base coat under and over it to lock it on) and it worked100% and even when I took off polish the patch stayed on and I repainted base color and cuccio topcoat and it is holding like a charm, I did not even file but that is because the cuccio high gloss topcoat hides so much!!! Tks for the tips
I've done patches before and I used super glue. It worked just fine. Thing to note, super glue can be removed with acetone. My nail broke very far down into my nail bed and had I ripped it off it would have been a bloody mess. Didn't have nail glue and I didn't want to risk my break catching on something and ripping my nail fully off.
Thanks for the great tips, Kelli! Just wanted to mention that if the broken piece is too big and relatively hard, the nail polish alone with the tea bag piece won't keep it in place. (been there-done that) :P So nail glue saves the day!
You can use nail glue and a pinch of baking soda. There is a chemical reaction that makes the baking soda get hard. Use a light layer of glue a pinch of baking soda. It will dry almost instantly. Lightly file/buff and repeat. After that you can apply base coat and polish as you normally would. It will eventually grow out. Just keep filing and shaping as it grows. You only have to buff the top once when you apply it the first time.
I used to work at a hardware store and I had a bad break and I went around the paint section and asked around for glue and my now boyfriend happened to have this glue for holding nuts and screws in place called Loctite Threadlocker Red 271. This glue seamed the break and permanently fixed my nail until it grew out. I was able to paint over my nail several times until I filed it away. We discovered it by accident but it really works.
Kelli Marissa Hmm... I'm not really sure. The break happened on the length of the nail far enough to avoid the glue getting on my skin. The glue doesn't smell as bad as nail lacquer is as much as I can say.
SGonzalez loctite threadlocker is a great idea - it is a bit flexible in my experience so might well be good for a nail. As to toxicity the Loctite threadlocker data sheet says it may cause allergic skin reaction / skin irrication but then nail glue might too - it contains cyanoacrylate which is in super glue too. If you look up the ingredients of most nail stuff (even the 3-5 free stuff) they are not the nicest bunch but in small doses in ventilated areas, it should be OK. I am definitely going to try it when I get my next tear!
Hi!! Is this still how you repair your nails? I tried doing this yesterday for my mum, but I think the rip was too great as the tea bag ended up ripping later? I think maybe the nail got caught on sth and it bent and therefore ripped it? Maybe I didn't use enough glue... But just in case I am looking into maybe getting the Orly Nail Rescue Set, are you familair with it at all?
so I totally tried this today, have been working on squaring my nails and they seem to break just at the nail bed more frequently (have gotten a nail hardener!) so went and bought nail glue and got out tea and clipped a little bit. I could NOT get that little bugger to stay on my nail! it went everywhere but there! got nail glue on several fingers. Needless to say I need more practice 😂 but will just use glue and hardener for now. Love your channel!!!
+Chelsea Mason hahaha Chelsea! I guess those little tea bags can be finicky! I'm sorry it didn't work for you haha but maybe you can try to place the paper with the nail glue brush and just kinda push it down??
+EisTigerchen hahah I am glad it's a reputable brand, I just bought the cheapest one :P And thank you so much! I love having a funky color in my hair - you should totally do it!
I patch with just a base coat, and I wrap the edge of the tea bag over the tip (or under the side if that's where the break is) and I push it down and smooth it out - you can't see it at all. I do a pretty thick layer of base coat, then do 2 layers of top coat. It holds really well and it's super fast and cheap, since you likely already have that stuff laying around!
Kelli Marissa I have a 16 year old and a 6 year old- I have found a lot of tricks to do things (not just nails!) quickly and effectively! I will say that I'm constantly doing dishes and laundry, and these patches stay solid! I honestly never even thought to use nail glue!
+Alucard Peach haha, I'll bet! They must be a handful. I'm lucky in that I really only have to take care of myself, but I will say that kitchen gloves during dish washing is a lifesaver!
i have a bad habit of chipping my nails (hence why i started painting them in the first place) and i genuinely wish id known this years ago thank u i owe u my life
Great video . Do you have a video on doing your cuticles? Like how to remove the dead skin. You make doing nails look so easy. My nails are thin & weak without polish so I try to make sure I do do my nails once a week. The problem is I get busy doing other things then I get lazy especially at night and then when the polish is chipped they start to break like my right thumb nail.
+MaryAnn Rossetti hey MaryAnn! I don't really do much to remove my cuticles, I do I frequently use Blue across Cuticle Remover and just sort of wipe off any dead skin, I show that in my "salon manicure at home" video but I don't think it's good for your cuticles to cut them off! And I know what you mean haha, you should try to use longer lasting polishes so that your manicure lasts until you're ready to paint them again!!
I use super glue to fix my broken nails lmao. usually the only fix I have to do is glue down a peel/chip that's forming until it grows enough to file it down. works like a charm
I wonder if coffee filters would work? I've only used tea bags also, but it doesn't feel that different than coffee filters, and those wouldn't be messy (no product spillage)
Your amazing :) And really inspiring :) I love nail youtubers like you & simply nailogical! I'm terrible at nails but i love looking at all the amazing designs and polishes!
oh... :( what would you do with a broken nail from its root? One of my nails is forever and ever damage. I can't grow it because it splits in two. What would you suggest? please... :((((
It really depends on how rough you are with your nails! This lasted me about 4 days because I am super rough on mine haha but you can do it again once it starts to fall off!
Fuerte Abrazo ☺☺☺☺☺😍😍😍😍😍😍
What can you do to a nail that has been destroyed. Accidentally using kitchen device cut off pad of thumb and 45 degree angle of nail. 2 years later i have a nail but it wont attach to the rim of skin. It continually cracks half way down so I cut it at the 45 degree angle so it doesnt split further is there something I can do

I used this today! My nail broke all the way down and the amount of bleeding was awful. Now just waiting for the break to grow out so I can file it down
How to regrow your nails quick and easy? By the way I love your channel its really awesome I love doing nails but I don't know how to do it and I'm not so good at it ! Lol
I hate when my nails break. I have a thyroid dysfunction and it caused my nails to break easily and a little bit more hair to fall out than the normal amount of hair that we as humans lose on a daily basis. I talk hair, skin, and nails by the brand It Works to try and fix that situation. That's just me. Oh and if anyone is going through the same thing I hope this helps.
Interesting! I use a teeny tiny piece of sticky tape (the kind you can't easily peel off) and do my polish over the top. I even did it on my boyfriend when he stubbed his toe lol. Seems to work and last a long time.
Okay so at this point nail art isn't really much different than how my dad used to fix these fiberglass tanks. Just apply some epoxy resin, put fiberglass sheet over the damanged area, apply more resin and repeat until satisfied, then smooth it out and paint over it. Pretty fascinating.
Omg when I break a nail I just sit there and think, "damn it now Im gonna have to file ALL my nails down"🙀🙀🙀😂
+Zabel Cambero haha that's the worst feeling! Hopefully you won't have to do it anymore! 😅
Ikr😂
I just add a false nail until it grows out
Zabel Cambero omg i do the same thinh

Oh yay I'm so happy to hear it Amber!

+Moz'ART Designs I haven't, but I have a video on how to make your nails grow stronger and I mention strengtheners :)
This is a really nice trick😊😊 Thanks for sharing Kelli! I love your videos so much!😀
