The ingredient you want to avoid using with glitters is 'Heptane'. The Orly one is good - it's the same as the Sally's one in this video but without the Heptane. Hope that helps anyone who come across this comment thread! 💕 (I've seen a lot of comments concerning this point, so I thought I'd just throw in up here in case it saves anyone some time!)
Thank you for talking about cleaning the bottlenecks!! It's so important to extending your polish life. I have polishes (I've hung onto for sentimental value) that are 20 years old and not clumpy at all.
@@JadenYukifan28 Usually, when exposed to water and chores, most non gel nail polishes start chipping within a week and need to positively be removed by the 7th or 8th day or even sooner depending on the brand, to avoid chipped nails looking tacky. But with thinned out nail polish, nails could turn yellow due to addition of thinner.
@@vidyaarvind4458 I've never had that problem at all, I once decided to not wear a Base Coat under my nail polish and my nails were stained yellow. It has to do with what you are wearing and what you aren't wearing.
That thinner can ruin glitter, Orly's thinner is better for glitter polishes. I just saw a girl post a glitter polish where the glitter melted because she used that brand of thinner.
+mandas677 oh that's interesting, I haven't heard that but I also never put it in glitter since I use a sponge to apply it. I'll have to do some research!
Thanks for this tip. I use the Sallys thinner on my glitters ( I never knew there were different formulas for different types of polishes), and when I come back to use that polish again, it's like Kelly's silver. I will try Orly's.
Jackie Rosenfeld that confused me because I was about to write a comment about how I used nail polish remover on my glitter polish and it ruined it completely.

amazing! I had a white polish that got a little thick, and my mom told me to try nail polish remover. it worked well, for that one day. next time I tried to use it, it was cracking in the bottle, it was sticky, the colour seemed to break apart. it was horrible. I don't understand how people still think it works. the thinner is so so so much better.
Try adding clear nail polish of the same brand and see if it fixes nail polish(use a cheap nail polish if you don't want to ruin a good nail polish if it doesn't end up working). I don't have the nail polish thinner so I'm wondering if this will work as a replacement for the nail polish thinner...
What's up, Kelli?! I'm so impressed with how you saved those polishes. Honestly, if I was your boss, I'd have just binned them! I use thinner, but on mildly gloopy polishes. I'd never let my polish end up like those! Great video, as usual xxx
Kelli.. thank you so much for making this. I destroyed so many polishes try to restore them with acetone. I just saved around 15 bottles of polish, averaging around $5 each. The thinner was about $5. I saved $75 restoring old goopy polishes. Including the price of thinner, I saved a total of around $70. I seriously owe you for helping me save them!!
+kimmi ann oh my gosh Kimmi this is awesome to hear!! Im SO glad you were able to save all those polishes (and all that money!) and get to use some loved colors again :)
Thank you for this video!! I have several good polishes that got so clumpy and thick, but I don't have the heart to throw out because they're like 8-11 bucks a bottle....I had no idea polish thinner existed, I'm so pumped!! :) Thank you Kelli!!
Since I was homeless for a few years my collection of polishes have been "winterized" in the freezing cold and heated up in the hot summers. I'm sure you can imagine what my once beautiful polishes look like now. My sister got on Amazon and purchased an enormous bottle of Karlash nail polish thinner. It also came with a smaller bottle with a dropper. I am going to clean the tops and then add the thinner. Thank you so much for the video, Kelli. I am sure with the directions you gave I will be able to make my polishes like new. 😊💅
Be careful by "hitting" the bottle in the palm of your hand. I always did that my whole life... up to that day where the bottle burst and the nail polish was all over the place. Unfortunately there was a big mess, the tiny glass pieces fell on the carpet (of course with color on it), on the sofa, on my clothes - just everywhere. I never did it again 😉. ... I almost forgot the incident till I saw it in the video!!
Been doing it all wrong! I just bought some of the polish thinner from Sally’s. So satisfying to restore old polishes. I knew I was hoarding them for a reason. :-) This is going to save me so much money. 👍🏼💅🏼
I love this video and so happy to find this information. I have always used nail polish remover, knowing I was damaging the polish in the process but trying to extend favourite colours. I was getting extensions for many years but just recently started doing my own nails again. Found one of my old Revlon formulas that I just LOVE, but it is thick and clumpy. I wrote to Revlon and the colour is discontinued. So sad...but now I know how to restore the little I have left. Thank you so much.
I don't usually leave comments, but I can tell ya your knowledgable in nail polish and most importantly, your acting makes the whole video super fun to watch!
Kelli, thank you! I have a favorite polish that I've been dreading throwing out bc it's beautiful... now I don't have to! They don't make it anymore so I'm very thankful 😁
I am SO glad you said using acetone is only going to ruin your polish as I was waiting for you to say that's what you use to thin it. Yes I confess I came here ready to thumbs down! In their defense, using acetone is ok for one last use when you don't have a thinner handy but you better be prepared to throw out the polish because it's ruined now, mate! Anyway, I hope your boss was thrilled and you can tell her that she's probably inspired a lot of people to get that silver polish! P.S. I have 4 different thinners since nothing is ever simple any more. T_T
+Kalleesto hahaha I appreciate your honesty! I'm definitely sick of people saying that acetone works as a long term solution, so I understand your frustration :P And that's wild haha you have more thinner than me! I just have one for me three free polishes (that I used in this video) and then one with toluene for older polishes (which to be honest, I never use!)
Yeah it sucks - I have 3-Free, 5-Free, 7-Free and 0-Free (lol). Luckily I have no 9-Free polishes so I don't have to worry about that. Yes I have a lot of polish. Help? Thanks for your response! :D
I’ve been using the same brand nail polish thinner for years and I love it. I always have it on hand and it does last forever. A few drops and you’re good as new!
Just happened to find you. I so loved how you started this -- Does nail polish expire? No! Next... I've gotten into this discussion multiple times with siblings who pooh-poohed me for buying older polishes off of ebay. (Dior Sparkling Blueberry circa 1997? oh HELLO!) Nope...my collection is in fine working order.
+Rose J. Hahaha Rose! I totally know how you feel. I'm horrified when I talk to people who used to own rare polishes and threw them out because they "expired"!
Aggghhh, thank you! I wish I'd known to use thinner instead of remover when I bought my polish years back, ruined a good bottle, but my Dad found someone's discarded nail polish, it's a bit gloopy, and now I can't wait to get to the store for some thinner!
I keep my nail polish in the refrigerator and they stay like New for years. I have some from Avon that I've been having for at least 8 years and they apply just like when I first bought them. Maybe that's a tip you can tell your viewers about. It really works, I promise. But they have to stay in the fridge continuously when not in use.
+Sheila Rodriguez hey Sheila, I actually did test out the refrigerator method in one of my videos last year, it worked pretty well. But I've heard it's not great for long term. I'll have to test it out!
OMG!!! How freaky is this video?! Only bc TODAY, I gave myself a black on black matte French Manicure...As I was going through my polishes (140 + last time I counted) Anyway, I was wondering if there was anyway to *bring back* for lack of better words my old mail polishes...some are really really thick due to age. I have been collecting for a few yrs now...Lol I come on UTube just to check some things out as I'm settling down from my lonnng day....low & behold this video is the 2nd in line....I almost died bc I NEVER searched this idea, EVER! Was going too but didn't get around to it. Wow! Mind blowing!
+Michelle Pierce haha you know I always feel creepily like the Internet is watching me, you know what I mean? Like I'll mention a style of shoes I'm interested in to a friend and next thing I know it's popping up in my Facebook ads before I ever searched it! Haha well anyway I am glad you found the video and hopefully you find it helpful too :P
Michelle Pierce haha, I've experienced many of those "when I get around to it"... I just call them "round tuits" now. Thanks Kelly, I'm an nail artist from wayyy back and appreciate your wisdom to the max! (tried to rhyme last paragraph but a no go). Kelly...LOVE, LOVE your channel! AMAZEBALLS😘!
I've seen so many people online saying to add acetone/nail polish remover to old polishes to fix them but I was scared to do that due to what it actually does. Thanks for sharing this :) (also I love your hair)
Thank you so much for the video! I was about to throw out some nail polishes and was so sad a favorite glow in the dark one is clumpy! I’ll try this and hope it still glows!
Kelli Marissa I've never seen it either. But I'm weird and haven't seen a lot of more popular videos. (Star Wars, Titanic, Avatar) And I call myself a movie buff! 😳
Haha well $3 for a product that lasts a lifetime and can restore hundreds of expensive/limited edition nail polishes that aren't available anymore seems worth it to me :)
One of my favourite nail polishes has completely dried solid and so has the brush!! Can nail polish thinner work for completely solid polish and restore the brush too?
Your awesome. I just recently started doing my own manicures and I love it. Don't know what to me this long. And it lasts waaay longer than the salon. tfs
+Joan Rodriguez thanks so much Joan! I agree, I've never understood why people will pay so much money so frequently to go to the salon when it's so much cheaper and more fun at home!!
Hi there! I have some quick dry polishes that are starting to get goopy and was already planning on buying some thinner, but I watched your video to see if there was more to it than just adding drops and shaking. I'm glad I did, cause I have polishes that run the gamut from "0" to 3- to 5-free and never thought that there might be different thinners for that! So thanks for the info, but now I also have a question. I'm on a really tight budget and have to be pretty thrifty with the decisions I make about what "extras" to buy for myself. So, I understand it's better to use the right thinner formulation on the right polish, but is it possible (even if not ideal) to use one thinner on all of my polishes? If so, would it be better to use a "0" 3- or 5-free thinner? Thanks in advance for the response (hopefully)!
+Princess Buttercup to be honest, I have used the 3-free thinner that you see in this video in non-3-free polishes. It isn't AS effective but it does work. So if you want to just purchase one, I would recommend a 3-free one! Hope this helps :)
I enjoy your videos, to the point. I am an esthetician, in esthetic school, we learnt to save old, clumpy polish with banana oil. Works great and lasts forever. I get mine from pharmacies.
Omg, this is so awesome!! I have a bottle of OPI Sanderella that is super gloopy, but I love the color so much and it has been discontinued. I'm going to try this asap!!! Thank you so much!!!
My mum never throws her nail polish away! So some of her collection are over 20 years now! But they still work fine and the colour is still amazing! And yes, she uses a thinner similar to yours too but an OPI brand. But i NEVER knew that nail polish should apply so smoothly until you show the "after" thinner application clips LOL. Thanks! Now i know when to add thinner!
I have always used methylated spirits and it works! Everyone shouts me down when I mention this but I have done it for years. I don't use it on my Seche Vite top coat I usually use the Restore but I will try and source this one. I'm in Australia so I'll see what I can find.
Perfect timing!!! I find my neons like to get thick faster than my other polishes and I just tossed a couple last week. But after seeing this, I can salvage a few that I was really not wanting to part with.

Thank you for this video!! I have several good polishes that got so clumpy and thick, but I don't have the heart to throw out because they're like 8-11 bucks a bottle....I had no idea polish thinner existed, I'm so pumped!! :) Thank you Kelli!!
+Bianca G haha I know exactly how you feel Bianca! Well now you never have to throw them out :)
Damn this is actually helpful I didn't even know that was a thing
+Kristan Collins haha well I'm glad you enjoyed it Kristan!
“You’ll know when it’s mixed when you get a red mark on the palm of your hand”. That’s soooo funny!!😂😂
Thank you so much for the great tips! Order placed, and now I can salvage almost 100 of my bottles! 😘❤️
Thank you for the information. I will definitely watch more of your videos
Awesome, thank you!
I love the lighting in this video❤️💍
+Dancer Lizzie ooh thank you so so much!
Been doing it all wrong! I just bought some of the polish thinner from Sally’s. So satisfying to restore old polishes. I knew I was hoarding them for a reason. :-) This is going to save me so much money. 👍🏼💅🏼
Ahh yay I’m so happy I could help!
If there's a chance they can be fixed, then you should always keep them!
Oh thank you so much! It means a lot to me to hear 🙂
That outtro 😂 I need this thinner stuff in my life! I feel like a lot of my nail polishes are thick or goopy. Thank you for sharing!
+Elisabeth West oh girl it'll change your lifeeee!!
Kelli, thank you! I have a favorite polish that I've been dreading throwing out bc it's beautiful... now I don't have to! They don't make it anymore so I'm very thankful 😁
+Shannon Wheeler ahh I'm so happy I could help Shannon!
I'm loving the addition of the "Fun Fact" at the end of your videos, so much fun!
+Shannon Roberts hahaha thanks so much Shannon, I felt like I needed to add a little something :P
I’ve been using the same brand nail polish thinner for years and I love it. I always have it on hand and it does last forever. A few drops and you’re good as new!
It's so good! I still have the same bottle from this video lol!
When I saw the title I said “Buying a new one”
Well you could do that too :) but this is a good idea for polishes that are discontinued or too expensive to buy new :)
I actually thought that was what she did when I looked at the thumb nail
True
Super helpful! I love your Nail Polish 101 videos!
+Holosexual 4 life yay that makes me so happy to hear :)
Holosexual 4 life Yes! LOVE the 101 videos!
Kelli Marissa would this method work for old clear/top coats???
Holosexual 4 life love your user name
Just happened to find you. I so loved how you started this -- Does nail polish expire? No! Next...
I've gotten into this discussion multiple times with siblings who pooh-poohed me for buying older polishes off of ebay. (Dior Sparkling Blueberry circa 1997? oh HELLO!) Nope...my collection is in fine working order.
+Rose J. Hahaha Rose! I totally know how you feel. I'm horrified when I talk to people who used to own rare polishes and threw them out because they "expired"!
Thank You so Much. I have about 35 bottles to refreshing up a lot of work to do.
Happy to help! 😄
Kelli, I love you girl. Had no clue this product even existed. You are my hero!
love your eye makeup!
+Carolina Noriega thank you so much Carolina :)
Carolina Noriega as well as her hair & lip color
Early squad were y'all at!!❤
+Jessica Martinez yesssssss ✨✨✨
those two colors are gorgeous though..
+TreeStevens haha I'm a bit sad to have to give them back!!!
You can still get I'm not really a waitress. It part of the core line I thinkg and I'm pretty sure its part of the infint shine line too
I'm not really a waitress is such a beautiful color, I think it would work for anyone
Hi Kellie. I just wanted to ask, do you know if Nail Polish Thinner can be used in mirror nail polish too?
Thank you❗️ I loved your video. Sadly, I threw away some awesome polish because I thought it was unusable😍 thank you for being here
I'm still so surprised that you don't have much more subscribers! Love u ❤️💜
+Lauren Facciolo oh my gosh Lauren you are so sweet! It means so much to me that you like my channel and my little videos 💜💜💜💜
This is super helpful:) Thank you so much! 💞
+nailart _bygracie I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you I just recently found you and had this question!! I enjoy your videos you're and your expertise!!
+J Cat I'm so so happy you're enjoying my content so far :) :)
Aggghhh, thank you! I wish I'd known to use thinner instead of remover when I bought my polish years back, ruined a good bottle, but my Dad found someone's discarded nail polish, it's a bit gloopy, and now I can't wait to get to the store for some thinner!
I heard once that if you thin a polish out a lot it chips more easily, do you think that's true? Always love these nail polish 101 videos!
+Tami I haven't had that happen to me!! I'm glad you enjoy them :)
+Kelli Marissa please do a nail polish essentials video 😬plz
+Brooklynne Riley oooh I love that idea!!!
+ Kelli Marissa,thank you
Brooklynne Riley That's a good idea
+Tasoq haha I'm so glad you didn't do it! It will definitely eventually ruin your polish :/ and thank you so so much!
You did a great job with the silver nail polish 🙂. Does thinned nail polish last on nails as long as newly bought nail polish or do they chip faster?
I use perfume to restore my nail polish. Not only does it work, it makes your nails smell good
I just threw my fav nail polishes cause I think they expired :( rip
Oh noooo!!
No is a complete sentence. No explanation needed. 😀
Haha it would have been great!
The silvery nail polish is everything 🤍
This is perfect, thank you! A few of my favorite polishes are getting gloopy as all get out, this helps so much.
Happy to help!
When I was a teenager I worked at Kmart in jewelery and cosmetics, once every three weeks I had to shake all the nail polishes.
Haha thats crazy I never thought about that! Making sure the display looks nice haha
Hi what does 3 free, 4 free etc. mean?
+M. M. SCOTT it means free of harmful chemicals :)
At first i thought this was a SimplyNailogical video... Then i saw on the thumbnail that the nail polish wasnt holo.
+tegan little girl you know she doesn't do nail videos ever :P LOL
Loved it. Finally something solvable on UA-cam.
Happy to help :)
Thank you so much for the video! I was about to throw out some nail polishes and was so sad a favorite glow in the dark one is clumpy! I’ll try this and hope it still glows!
YOU'VE NEVER SEEN LITTLE MERMAID!?!?!?!?😦 Another great basic video to share with my tween daughter! She listens to you better than she listens to me!
+Elizabeth G. Haha! I definitely have to see it. I remember the Jonas Brothers' cover of Poor Unfortunate Souls and it sounded pretty awesome :P
Kelli Marissa I've never seen it either. But I'm weird and haven't seen a lot of more popular videos. (Star Wars, Titanic, Avatar) And I call myself a movie buff! 😳
"how restore a nail polish: buy a specific product for restore nail polish"
Mmh.
Haha well $3 for a product that lasts a lifetime and can restore hundreds of expensive/limited edition nail polishes that aren't available anymore seems worth it to me :)
Kelli Marissa RIGHT!? OP seems like the type that you just can’t please/win with. Great job and thank you endlessly for this video Kelli!!
Just saying, don't write it like is a unique solution
You just bought a product for that specific thing
the before and after the nail polish thinner was SOOO satisfying!!!
+Zaina_1124! Haha omg yes what a difference!!
This video deserves more hype! 😂🙌🏽
Haha I'm happy you found it helpful!!
Thanks sooo much. I have color that i LOVE and refused to throw away not knowing what exactly i would do with em but NOW im glad i kept them
Ahh I'm so happy I could help!
This is really satisfying. Can’t wait to try this on all my old polishes.
It's definitely satisfying to do!! And it'll feel like getting a brand new bottle of polish haha!
Yassssssss😍😍😍
One of my favourite nail polishes has completely dried solid and so has the brush!! Can nail polish thinner work for completely solid polish and restore the brush too?
I think it's worth trying but it might be tough! You'll probably have to use a lot.
@@KelliMarissa okay, thank you!
@@KelliMarissa hi Kelli! I just wanted to ask, where did you get the nail polish thinner from?
Shanice Ball I buy it from Sally Beauty
@@KelliMarissa okay, thank you!
Ooooh almost all of my polish is 5 free and I never thought to check if my thinner was
Your awesome.
You are so right Kelli, I ruined three bottles of beautiful polish by adding a bit of REGULAR polish remover.
Aw boo! I'm sorry that happened! Nail polish thinner will be a life saver for you!
I never knew that nail polish thinner existed.. Thank you!! Game changer !!!
+anastasia rozday ooh you're gonna love t! Anything that feels a little clumpy can benefit from a drop or two!
I’ve heard that too! :)
Happy I found this video was about to use nail polish remover to fix nail polish and now ordering nail thinner! Thank you !!!!!
Oh yes always happy to help (and happy to keep you from accidentally destroying a polish haha!!)
Omg, this is so awesome!! I have a bottle of OPI Sanderella that is super gloopy, but I love the color so much and it has been discontinued. I'm going to try this asap!!! Thank you so much!!!
OMG! I haven't watched one of your vids in like a year. It made me so happy to see your smiling face! You have the best energy! Best smile! 🥰
+pinkcotton94 haha omg yes I'm always adding thinner even when my polishes get the tiniest bit thick, it's just so darn convenient!!!
I have always used methylated spirits and it works! Everyone shouts me down when I mention this but I have done it for years. I don't use it on my Seche Vite top coat I usually use the Restore but I will try and source this one. I'm in Australia so I'll see what I can find.
Haha I actually don't even know what that is! But if it works, may as well keep doing it!
I think it's called denatured alcohol in the US.
Perfect timing!!! I find my neons like to get thick faster than my other polishes and I just tossed a couple last week. But after seeing this, I can salvage a few that I was really not wanting to part with.
Thanks this helped so much bc my black nail polish was almost empty and all clumpy and you helped me out thanks!!
