    I noticed you can get bubbles too if you apply multiple coats without letting the previous coat dry.

      @ACWells13 5 років тому +97

      Yes! A nail tech told me this is because the solvents from the lower layers are trying to evaporate with the heat from your body, but they're sealed in by the top layers so they just form bubbles instead

    One tip i have....don’t apply your polish really fast or really thick. I find swiping over and over quickly will form bubbles as well as applying thick coats.

    Ha, I store my polishes "dungeon style" I call it. Dark, cool & dry. I don't display any of them. That's probably why I have polishes that are 20 yrs old (no joke) and they are still good as ever.

    • @KelliMarissa

      It's crazy how much of a difference storage makes, my polishes are in better condition now than they were years ago haha!

      I worked at Walgreens in the early to late 90s while in college, and collected a lot of nail polish back then, many of which I still have! I also keep them cool, dark, and dry. You can't even tell how old some of my polishes are. I have them in drawers on my bedroom too. For now they're in Ikea Helmers, but I am switching to the Alex drawers soon.

    • @MrsTLadd
      @MrsTLadd 5 років тому +5

      Similar here! Some of my polishes are over 15 years old. I've always stored mine in a fishing tackle box I got at a sporting goods store. I have 80-90 polishes and it holds them all (I have adopted a buy one/donate one policy so they don't outgrow the storage). It keeps them cool, dark, and dry. Plus I can easily move it around the house or travel with it, which I have been asked to do before. At first I was concerned about storing them on their side but it's worked for 15 years. I also like how I can see them all at the same time so I don't forget about any.

      @@triciag3311 Lol! They can add up quite easily. I have WAY more than I need for only painting my own nails but I can say that If I'd ever worked at Walgreens I'd have 1000 too! I love polish!😁

    The humidity thing explains so much! I've been so frustrated this summer with bubbles, looking up reasons why- "applying it too thickly", tried thinner coats, got bubbles! "not letting it dry" I was leaving my nails 30 minutes between coats (binge watching TV) still got bubbles! "polish is too old" bought new shades. Bubbles galore! But this summer has been incredibly humid compared to previous years and I never used to get bubbles at all. Life saver, thank you so much. I have no aircon at home so if I find myself in this situation next year I might just treat myself to getting it done professionally oops.

    Thanks Kelli! Did not know this video existed. My top coat was bubbling 2-3 times, which never happened before and I was wonder what the issue was. Turns out that the fan was the culprit lmao. I never expected the fan to be the culprit since I thought it would help in drying the polish faster haha 😆 The bubbling has stopped since I stopped using the fan. It was a great help!

    Thank you! You're so right! I painted my acrylic nails in the park (slightly windy) and I shook my polish like crazy just before I painted them and the polish had been in the trunk of my car for about three days in sunny South Florida although the weather wasn't too hot during that time and then I sprayed the wet nails with nail dryer can spray with the can too close to the nails. My nails came out horrible. The color was a beautiful deep red but looked a hot mess.

    It was a game changer for me when I learned about not letting air blow directly on you while painting your nails! Especially the ceiling fan, which is easy to forget about. Now my only bubble issues usually only happen when I'm in a rush. And it's either because I didn't let it dry enough (or set) between coats or I tried to cut corners and applied it too thick.

    I've also noticed the occurrence of bubbles when I applied too thick of a coat which happens to me a lot with topcoat (especially quick dry topcoat that has thickened up a little bit too much) or when I didn't let each coat dry enough.
    I didn't think of the possibility of a fan/open window etc being an issue so thank you for mentioning that!

    Kelli, one thing I learned that also helps to not get bubbles is to wait for the previous layer of base coat/polish to dry before painting on the next coat. Since the first layer is not yet dry, it releases some “fumes” that leave the “bubbles”. That has helped me 😊
    Edit: just saw that Tess W also left the same tip below

    I tried waiting for an hour after I got a shower to dry my nails completely and I put my nail polish in the fridge for at least 30 minutes and it really worked. I waited about 10 minutes after the base coat and 20 minutes after each layer. It took all my Sunday afternoon but it was ok for me since I usually leave the Sunday afternoon for self-care and it was totally worth it. It's very hot and humid where I live and I was getting massive bubbles that looked absolutely horrifying. But after I tried those things I only got very very small one or two bubbles that you need to look very closely to see them which I can live with. And by the way, before I put the nail polish in the fridge I added some nail polish thinner because it got a bit thick last time and I was afraid that it would get worse in the fridge. And I noticed when I put the nail polish thinner and immediately use it I get bubbles, so I made sure that the nail polish waited for 30 minutes before I used it.

    I do two thin coats of nail polish to prevent bubbles from forming on my nails. That seems to help to prevent the bubbles. Cleaning nails before a manicure is very important. It helps to keep the nail polish from bubbling. The humidity doesn't help, either. I have tried these remedies myself to keep my nail polish from bubbling. Just saying. Thank you, Kelli!! 😊
