Chris R also wanted to mention that I do use gold glitter toppers over dark reds as well you can imagine so pretty!!! You just have to experiment that’s half the fun with nail polishes
@@joanshealy1662 I use glitter toppers as well, but there are so many other toppers out there (not glitters) that can totally change the look of a polish. Something that looks like sheer yellow with pink shift on the naked nail could make black polish look like a glowy iridescent purple. Then on a different base color, look totally different again.

Starilly Vantablack is my fave of all-time. It’s pretty close to perfect IMHO. I had no idea that Salon Perfections was a sister brand of China Glaze, that’s a cool thing to be aware of! Yup, your eyeshadow does look blue, but it looks great. ☺️ I think you should do your favorite white polishes next.

I buy Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Black Heart at my local Walmart for under $2. It’s a one coat black creme that is the perfect backdrop for my holo top coats.
I love the Salon Perfect black! I’ve probably gone through 5-6 bottles of it. Black is my go to color all year round, Glossy or matte, I just love the way it makes my nails look

Sinfulcolors Black on Black is pretty great. Two bucks and it's the perfect thickness and a one coater. Now if only I can find a decent white one coater.
I have the OPI & Starrily polishes featured (which were alot more expensive to buy here in the UK!) & although both applied nicely & did only take 1 coat, the wear on them was appealing!! Less than a days wear without chipping, wouldn't recommend at all, Barry M's £2.99 black polish is alot better IMO
Oh man I’m sorry you had that experience! I guess it really varies person to person haha. Even my mom and I get completely different wear times on the same polishes!
Re: new brushes in China Glaze polishes: I asked them on IG, and they replied that yes, all of the bottles made from that point on would have the flat brush, including their core collection, so if you buy it somewhere that has a decent stock turnover rate, you should find the flat brush. I picked up a Fairy Dust with the flat brush at Sally's about 2 weeks before the first collection that had the flat brush came out. (Also, Liquid Leather is my all time favorite black...it's like $3.50 everywhere online, it stamps beautifully, but it gets thick as it ages...I have to add thinner to it about once every 3 months.)
The gel couture line from Essie is my all time favourite formula. They’re BEAUTIFUL. I wish she would do Essie videos. I guess maybe they’re a little more boring than other brands?
I like to use essie's liquorice for putting on black tips, but not much else. it chips super easy and the brushes are super thin. It's definitely a super opaque polish compared to most of their other ones though that need 2-3 coats for me! For the price of Essie polish, I would rather buy something else.
I used to exclusively buy Essie, but their colors aren’t very interesting from collection to collection and I find the coverage to be lacking compared to OPI or other brands. I think they’re a good intro brand, but I’ve grown out of them. They did make the perfect neon purple last summer though, and I literally bought three bottles!

I have a specific black polish I use for nail art. One coat colours are really not the holy grail for me - even if I get a polish that's a one-coater, I will always put on a second coat. I feel half naked just using one coat! It makes more sense to do white polishes next...

Ooooo, I have Vanta Black and I had Oil Slick. Question does it matter if nail polish contains the chemicals that the 5 free or whatever are leaving out? I was curious on your thoughts, do you not worry about it?
Honestly for me it doesn't make a difference, I try to mention it when I can because I know it's important to some people but the only thing I really prefer to not have in my polish is formaldehyde haha.
anyone else had issue with starrily’s vantablack becoming really like goopy and no longer easy to apply? Despite cleaning the lid and stuff the polish never lasted long for me, same thing happened with a second bottle :(
Lorienzo, I do have a series on my channel of my favorites of each nail polish color haha :) I already went through the rainbow and now I’m doing other colors like black, grays, whites, neutrals. Etc! The gray video will be coming out on Friday, and it’s divided into cool and warm toned grays.
Blush Lacquer just came out with a collection called "film noir" with all one coat creams including white! I'm super excited to pick it up because I can never find a good white that doesn't look like white out.

Lots of Essie’s new cream formulas are one coat now which is awesome. I recently purchased a repromoted “Licorice” with a new formula and new wide flat brush and I can confirm in my opinion it’s now a great one coat black.

Painted Polish Midnight Mischief!! PP has a line of one coat creams that are usually called "Stamped in ___" but I think the black was her first one. Also hope you still do a video on your fave black shimmers or glitters! I guess if there's not a lot, you can group them with silver or something haha.
My fav is Essie Licorice and AEngland Camelot lines black. Both are one coaters. I don't find either good for stamping. I use Twinkled_T, Painted Polish and Born Pretty stamping imho work best for me. MoYou is secondary. I wasn't impressed with brand u use. I found the formula thin but I haven't tried them in over 4 years.
Gotta mention Painted Polish's Midnight Mischief. It's been voted best black creme, best creme and best stamping polish, by the indie community (IndieSwatch Awards) every year now. Everything from Painted Polish is fantastic, but her black creme is one I definitely can't live without!

Would have been interesting to hear a little bit about drying times of these polishes, to make a decision on which to buy :) (dry to the touch and fully hardened) By the way, I have yet to see a Holo Taco One Coat Black fully swatched. FWIW i have the opi and i recently got an *"ella + mila" black* from target (i guess it's called 'mommy'? which is weird. honestly didn't read it till i got home). anyway the opi is great and the ella is VERY similar in how it looks and dries but the application somehow feels just a little more fun/smooth/easy. i wasn't trying to duplicate colors but i like them BOTH. ((i want to do some more testing on like the smell doing a full set of hands, but also which breaks and chips easier. the white by this brand looks pretty good.... IF you do 3 coats. ugh. 3 is a lot. but it IS a good standard white. gonna compare to funny bunny and marshmallow and see if i dig the others. also, sally hansen has what i thought was white but actually is a *super pale grey* called 'cuddle puddle'. if it isn't near a white, it reads as white and actually looks really good against a skin tone. (i have a guilty pleasure of doing black alternating with white, or even something like this grey. the grey has a real chill vibe and the white is good for REALLY poppling and standing out.) lol i currently am wearing all of those, alternating fingers, with also the addition of sally hansen 'hyp-nautical' which is a deep purple with blue shimmer. sort of mostly reads as blue, on, though clearly has the purple aspect. i'm sure i look suuuuuuper sane out where other people are. 😂😂😂 chaos alternating finger colors. (go-to line: bUt iM aN aRTiSt. )
Starilly Vantablack is my favorite black polish! Love the eyeshadow....It is funny because I dont think it looks blue at all, but more of a steel grey.
4 years later.... but i just wanna say the eyemakeup is dope. the reason it looks blue is it's a blue-leaning set of greys. i wouldn't have called it a b&w even just looking at your palette. but then i'm really obsessed with color, and years of prismacolor pencils, and markers, and later paint, and i always key into nuance. love the palette. :D
I'm currently wearing a manicure with China Glaze "Liquid Leather" and "Fast Track," and I completely agree with what you said: awesome polish with awesome coverage. You eyeshadow is reading blue, and I don't think it's your hair. I think the greys in that palette have blue-purple undertones and aren't true greys. Still looks great!
O•P•I, Holo Taco and Cirque blacks are all on my top shelf!! 👍👍 That palette that you mentioned at the end actually had some kind of a trademark/copyright issue, so I noticed on the website it's now the Blowin' Smoke palette. 🚬

Cuticula Licorice is awesome as well. I think it's labeled as a stamping polish, but I've used it for a full manicure and it was great. I found it had better coverage than the China Glaze or OPI, which are never one coaters for me
Love that you included price and quantity information this time! If it's not too much trouble, including the price/mL as well would be really helpful. I'd vote for favorite greys next, then favorite whites.
I'll def be including it for future swatch and reviews! For favorites, I do generally like polishes that might not be available from the brands anymore, but i can def start including it in the descriptions of the ones that are still around!
I am totally addicted to the Salon Perfect Oil Slick, but my Walmart hasn't had it in MONTHS! I'm getting depressed because I use black a LOT. The Holo Taco creme brushes always seem to be choppy and leave jagged strokes for me :/

anyone else had issue with starrily’s vantablack becoming really like goopy and no longer easy to apply? Despite cleaning the lid and stuff the polish never lasted long for me, same thing happened with a second bottle :(
Have you tried adding thinner? I haven't experienced this with mine but usually once you get to the end of any polish it may thicken up a bit!

Also if you could make a video for yellow or orange nail polishI would be happy because yellow and orange are such hard colors to pick when buying polish because they aren't shown much diversity like blues and reds. Just wanted to let people know if they're on a really tight budget, Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Black Heart is also a super opaque black that's at Dollarama! It has a thin brush.

Lots of Essie’s new cream formulas are one coat now which is awesome. I recently purchased a repromoted “Licorice” with a new formula and new wide flat brush and I can confirm in my opinion it’s now a great one coat black.
I might have to give it another try now that it's got the wide flat brush haha

Painted Polish Midnight Mischief!! PP has a line of one coat creams that are usually called "Stamped in ___" but I think the black was her first one. Also hope you still do a video on your fave black shimmers or glitters! I guess if there's not a lot, you can group them with silver or something haha.

My fav is Essie Licorice and AEngland Camelot lines black. Both are one coaters. I don't find either good for stamping. I use Twinkled_T, Painted Polish and Born Pretty stamping imho work best for me. MoYou is secondary. I wasn't impressed with brand u use. I found the formula thin but I haven't tried them in over 4 years.
I will say I think Maniology's formula has improved a LOT in the last couple of years for stamping polishes!
Gotta mention Painted Polish's Midnight Mischief. It's been voted best black creme, best creme and best stamping polish, by the indie community (IndieSwatch Awards) every year now. Everything from Painted Polish is fantastic, but her black creme is one I definitely can't live without!
Honestly the Sally Hansen hard as nails black from dollarama is $2 and the best one I’ve tried, I wish I could try one coat black from holo taco but it’s so expensive

Nice to have an overview of good one coat black polishes! Would have been interesting to hear a little bit about drying times of these polishes, to make a decision on which to buy :) (dry to the touch and fully hardened) By the way, I have yet to see a Holo Taco One Coat Black fully swatched. It makes me wonder about the application.. Has anyone else noticed this?
Hey Mariola, I did swatch the Holo Taco black in this video! As far as dry times, it really depends on your locations climate, humidity, and altitude, so it's hard to make a blanket statement about it haha :)
My favorite black nail polish is L.A Colors Color Last in Onyx. It’s a one coater for me and it’s only like $2 at Walmart!
A couple people mentioned it as a holy grail - I'm gonna have to try it!

FWIW i have the opi and i recently got an *"ella + mila" black* from target (i guess it's called 'mommy'? which is weird. honestly didn't read it till i got home). anyway the opi is great and the ella is VERY similar in how it looks and dries but the application somehow feels just a little more fun/smooth/easy. i wasn't trying to duplicate colors but i like them BOTH. ((i want to do some more testing on like the smell doing a full set of hands, but also which breaks and chips easier.
the white by this brand looks pretty good.... IF you do 3 coats. ugh. 3 is a lot. but it IS a good standard white. gonna compare to funny bunny and marshmallow and see if i dig the others. also, sally hansen has what i thought was white but actually is a *super pale grey* called 'cuddle puddle'. if it isn't near a white, it reads as white and actually looks really good against a skin tone. (i have a guilty pleasure of doing black alternating with white, or even something like this grey. the grey has a real chill vibe and the white is good for REALLY poppling and standing out.)
lol i currently am wearing all of those, alternating fingers, with also the addition of sally hansen 'hyp-nautical' which is a deep purple with blue shimmer. sort of mostly reads as blue, on, though clearly has the purple aspect. i'm sure i look suuuuuuper sane out where other people are. 😂😂😂 chaos alternating finger colors. (go-to line: bUt iM aN aRTiSt. )
i really like the L.A colors black (that i can't remember the name of) its surprisingly a one coat color :)

the holo taco brush looks so cheap compared to all the other polishes you showed. It looked really bad to me.

Starilly Vantablack is my favorite black polish! Love the eyeshadow....It is funny because I dont think it looks blue at all, but more of a steel grey.

4 years later.... but i just wanna say the eyemakeup is dope. the reason it looks blue is it's a blue-leaning set of greys. i wouldn't have called it a b&w even just looking at your palette. but then i'm really obsessed with color, and years of prismacolor pencils, and markers, and later paint, and i always key into nuance. love the palette. :D
I'm currently wearing a manicure with China Glaze "Liquid Leather" and "Fast Track," and I completely agree with what you said: awesome polish with awesome coverage.
You eyeshadow is reading blue, and I don't think it's your hair. I think the greys in that palette have blue-purple undertones and aren't true greys. Still looks great!

Cuticula Licorice is awesome as well. I think it's labeled as a stamping polish, but I've used it for a full manicure and it was great. I found it had better coverage than the China Glaze or OPI, which are never one coaters for me

I'd vote for favorite greys next, then favorite whites.
I'll def be including it for future swatch and reviews! For favorites, I do generally like polishes that might not be available from the brands anymore, but i can def start including it in the descriptions of the ones that are still around!
I am totally addicted to the Salon Perfect Oil Slick, but my Walmart hasn't had it in MONTHS! I'm getting depressed because I use black a LOT. But I'm thinking on the 6th when my hubby gets paid I totally need to get Memento Mori, mostly because I follow Unus Annus...yeah, gotta get it. Birthday present!
