Awesome tutorial, hands down the easiest and most comprehensive tutorial that I've seen on youtube. I really liked how you've managed to touch on pretty much everything a potential bow user would need or want to know. Probs.
I played MHTri on the wii, and I was really good at it and really liked it, so naturally I bought MH3U as soon as I could. I was really excited about using the new weapon, like the bow and gunlance, but I could never get the hang of it and be confident enough to use them. Your video really helped motivate me to give them another try, hopefully with better results this time. :)
the video is awesome, so useful for those (like me) who are just new to the series :D thanks, but god, i'm spanish and i have troubles with your speaking speed D: so fast! XD
so theres horizontal spread, vertical spread and pierce for the forward shots, and spread, focus and blast for the arc/rain shots...are all these things that every bow can do, or do you need different coatings or different bows to do some of them?
I run out of time on Alatreon trying to hit him with the blast arc shot. It seems to hit him and fall right through, exploding on the ground and doing no damage. It seems to be better against monsters that are closer to the ground.
can you explain how arrow rain (and each type of arc) works underwater? no matter which type of arc i have, it seems like all i do is shoot a package tied to an arrow, and it just seems to disappear
You said the Blast Shot explodes on impact. Now I'm not 100% sure damage-wise, but visually this isn't true. The Blast Shot's arrow tends to fall through the monster, then explode once it hits the ground. Now again, I don't know if the damage will be dealt to the damage applies when it hits the top, bottom, or more, but I think it's worth looking into because it seems it'll at least only cause the explosion damage on the bottom.
I know it applies damage when it hits the top I've knocked down the Rathalos with it when the los was way to high to get hit with the explosion. How the damage works I've no idea.
Been trying to figure out, does power coating affect elements or not? Nothing I've seen is very clear but it's usually along the lines of "boosts raw by 50%" but never says it doesn't affect element.
But how you do it? You explained everything, but no button, or button combination. What button to set the coatings? What button for hitting exactly at the head from above? How to, how to?
If you're talking about stuff like Pierce, Rapid and Spread, look at your bow's information on the equipment panel. Your bow does a specific type of shot at different levels. For instance, let's say my bow does Spread Shot at level 1, Rapid at level 2, and Pierce at level 3. That means if I fire the bow without charging, my shots will be spread shots. If I charge until the first flash, then release... I'll fire the Rapid shot. If I charge all the way (some bows can't charge past level 3), THEN release... my shot will be a Piercing shot. IF you're talking about ARC shots, like the Blast, Focus and Wide arcs, you do it by charging until at LEAST Level 1, and then pressing X and A together. You can tell when the Arc Shot is ready to fire because holding R will show a circle on the ground where the arc will land. ... important note: after 3U Capcom did the stupidest thing ever and changed the default bow controls so that you use R to fire and hold X to go into quick-aim mode. The advice I give you here considers the original defaults, which had X to fire and hold R to go into aim mode. You can set your controls back to this default in the options menu.
Here's a tip, hold R. (Or X if you're using default controls) to enter quick-aim mode. It shows a little guide line to demonstrate roughly which way your arrow will fly. Sometimes the arrow will go higher than the guide line but not by much and will never deviate left or right from it.

Excellent tutorial. I'm now learning the bow so this was quite educational.
Loving your vids I have learned a lot and you seem to be the only one who does frequent bow vids

thanks for this tutorial, now i won't be afraid using bows in hunting anymore
Thanks for the tips you mention on all your vids, also you got mee into the bow! :D Nice channel!
Thanks for the comment! I left Slime coatings out on purpose. I'll be doing an exclusive video on them in the future, since they are new to MH.
Nice videos!
Nice to learn about some things like that extra charge skill!
Btw, you forgot to mention slime coating.
Did not know you could KO with bow... Man I really have to make one now!

Thanx alot, this really helped my game
:)
such a good tutorial. thanks
nice vid
good video good hunt
I looked around for some damage formulas for that shot but I didn't come up with anything so far. I'll be on the look out for that though. Good catch!
Thx alot man

hi this was really helpful. but would recommend a bow for a 3ds user? i dont have a circle pad pro, and its hard to aim :(

can you link towards these armor set topics in the description?

mention that exhaust coating can do dizzy damage which will knock a monster out

Im pretty sure it doesn't affect the element.
What kind of armor are you wearing in the very beginning? I can't seem to figure it out.
looks like high rank zinogre to me
I still don't know how to do arc shots or reach lvl 3 charges.
Today I was trying to sleep bomb P. rathian, and then a jaggi came in and hit it right before I could set the bombs up. :'(
Still does x3 damage from Jaggi's hit though xD
... ive been doing bombs wrong too. I always bllow them up with kicks or arrows. And get blasted with it =w=;;;
how to use coating
how are you shooting charged shots so accurately without aiming?
skill.
im sure it practice and know your distance of it
But how you do it? You explained everything, but no button, or button combination. What button to set the coatings? What button for hitting exactly at the head from above? How to, how to?
or dont risk shooting the monster first and just kick them.
heres my problem how the fuck do i do tese diffrent shots noone seems to tekk me this
choose a coating have ur bow out and press a+x

I can't aim for shit in this game ._.
