  • In this video I show you how to apply weedkiller to your grass so that you can kill the weeds and not the lawn. I also show you how to avoid spraying plants and shrubs.
    In this video I am using Weedol lawn weedkiller. You can order yours here on Amazon: amzn.to/3Q0DIMM (affiliate link).
    If you'd like to see all the products and tools I am using I have a free PDF download. You can grab it free of charge by joining my email newsletter here: lawnright.co.u...
    Spraying weeds in your lawn takes a little bit of practice. Using this product you can use a watering can OR a sprayer to do the job. I explain both methods in this video, and show you how to use the sprayer to apply it.
    This video is part of a series. I actually purchased a load of lawn care products from Amazon, and documented the buying process. The idea being that I will buy them and use them on my own lawn and explain how you can do the same.
    The first video is called Lawn care shopping list
    The 2nd video is called setting up your knapsack sprayer
    The 3rd video is called how to apply lawn weedkiller to your lawn (this video)
    The 4th video is called how to apply seaweed to your lawn
    The 5th video is called how to apply fertiliser to your lawn
    Access the full playlist here: • SHOPPING LIST
    All the above videos have been made with the idea of helping YOU improve your lawn. We do it together then I can help you through it.
    If you've enjoyed this video I'd love a thumbs up on the like button and a subscribe if you found it to be of value.
    Thanks!

    Unless your lawn is covered in weeds it is not necessary to blanket spray the lot. I use the same dosage and spot spray weeds that occasionally pop up. Weedol is really good value for money for small lawns. Great product. I got a half litre bottle at Wilko for £8.

    It’s a great weed killer. 10/10

    As weedol for lawns (and resolva for lawns) are systemic weed killers the weed plant must be left to die slowly (several days) for the biology to work. So if you mow/trim the weeds in this period they may survive and grow back. So I’ve been mowing around spot weeds and mowing on a higher setting a few times for patches of clover etc. Another selective weed killer you can use on Lawns is “Vitax SBK”, which contains triclocyr. Have used this to kill Horsetail though you do need to stamp on them first to bruise them. This aids absorption by the leaf.

    Good vid on weed killers.
    Personally, I'm not comfortable with persistent weed killers. On my fairly large, gravel parking area I use the foliar Glyphosate that neutralizes when hitting the soil, even 'though I have to spray multiple times as new weeds pop up in spring.
    I also have different sprayers for each chemical permanently, and prominently, labeled so I don't confuse my tick killer with weed killer., for instance.
    I've put in some native (US Midwest) warm weather grasses for the usual droughts, and am attempting to figure out what will kill the weeds and cool weather grasses, because the warm weather grasses take three years to establish as they have yards of root systems to build before they mature.
    Had to laugh when, in another vid, you were drilling holes in a clay lawn with the drill augers, as I had very much the same problem getting to any depth myself.

    The first thing people should do when buying a knapsack sprayer is to fill it in with 10 L of clean water and do three passes on your lawn. After that, measure the amount of water left in the sprayer and you know how much water you need for those three passes. For example, if after three passes for a lawn of 50 sqm you have 4 L left in the tank that means you need 6 L for the three passes. What you have to do then is to put the exact amount of weedkiller needed for 50 sqm (i.e in this case 75 ml of weedol) in 6 L of water and do your three passes. Simples.

    • @LawnRight

      It's because the weedkiller will go into their compost facilities.which in turn goes into compost for sale or on council flowerbeds .. however.... how many millions of people wont follow that? What you can do is bag up clippings for the first few mows but this is something you should decide for yourself.

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  Рік тому +1

      Hi.... so usually and typically you wouldnt spray any weedkiller for at least 6 months or more if you follow the RHS for example, but I have personally sprayed other weedkillers as early as 6 weeks... but ONLY when the grass looks fine healthy and is thriving.. and even then I'd usually only spot spray the actual weeds. So if it looks good then go for it, but just to be ultra careful as it's still very new with shallow roots..if you sprayed a little too heavy it could stress out the lawn and possibly cause damage

    Warning! About 10 days ago I used a different product that was supposed to be a liquid “Feed & Weed” treatment. I mixed it very carefully as per the instructions on the bottle and applied it to the lawn with equal care. Within a couple of days, I started getting brown patches on my lawn. In time the brown patches turned into brown stripes of dead grass which exactly followed the pattern I’d used to apply the Feed & Weed. Eventually the sad truth dawned on me that I had ruined a perfectly good lawn. When I do get the lawn back to its original state, I will never use any kind of weed killer on it again, hand weeding is time consuming but much safer for the lawn.

Obviously it won’t be as good as your professional products, but would you still recommend it? I have just put granulated weed/feed and moss killer. I am planning on scalping, aerating, scarifying, overseeing and top dressing in the next week or so. I probably won’t use the weedol until early-mid summer. Does this sound like the correct action?

      HI Rusty, as you've just put the granulated product down it contains weedkiller so I would now avoid any seeding for at least 4 weeks. Yesterday I used resolva (dicamba and mecoprop) on about 10 square metres of clover patches. When I looked at the clover leaves it all seemed to be running off into the soil where it is supposed to be neutralised. Is this enough contact for it to work? I'm tempted to started mixing it with neem oil and detergent to add stickiness but this might also prevent contact by emulsifying it.

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  Рік тому +1

      Hi a minimum of 4 to 5 weeks really.. Then its going to be super hot, and not really ideal as you will need to keep the seeds damp for 2 to 3 weeks(basically 2 to 5 times or more a day giving it a few minutes dampening it down), and then it would also be vital to water deeply 3 or more times a week right through summer (due to it being new grass with shallow roots).. If you can keep that strict regimen up you'll be fine, but anything less and it could die back, so autumn would prove more sensible in that instance.

    Hi Shaun, hopefully this is a quick answer for you.
    My lawn after a spring feed is looking reasonably good, although very thin in places (and some just soil).
    This season i want to attempt to level off the surface (large dog = full of dips & craters) as much as possible so I can switch to a push cylinder mower. I pulled out as many large weeds as I could see this weekend but there are quite a few smaller weeds starting to grow.
    So I'm a little confused as to the order I should tackle these jobs. Should I wait until Sept to apply weedkiller & level/seed/topdress at the end of this month (when things dry out more) or weed kill now & wait until sept to level/seed/topdress etc?
    Any advise would be very welcome. It's a lot of work and expense to get wrong.

      Hi is your lawn shaded or plenty of sun? If its shaded over winter.. I would do the seeding now..nothing worse than seeding a nice lawn in autumn that looks lovely , but then fades again over winter . So if you can tolerate the weeds for a fee months id do all the other work soon

    • @chriscole3624
      @chriscole3624 Рік тому

      @@LawnRight It's about 50/50 sun/shade. The sun starts off through some trees (morning), then it's full south facing sun for about 3 hours (approx) before it starts to make it's way around the house & we get the shadow from that on it.
      I can live with the weeds this summer (i'll get on top of them early next season). I'll get in a bulk bag of top soil & start the leveling process towards the end of this month. Hopefully it's going to be dry enough by then.
      I want to lower the PH to just below 7 (as it seems to be just over that currently), so I've got some Ammonium Sulphate Fertiliser I'll start using soon (once the spring fert has been used up) and i'll put some sulfur chips down once it warms up a little. Hopefully by next season it'll be around 7 or just below.
      PS: Am I right in thinking the bare spots I have now will be a magnet for weeds if I don't get seed down soon?
      Many thanks for your feedback Shaun.

    What's the best way to fix a heavily mossy lawn? Scarifying then adding Weedol?

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  Рік тому +1

      Hi Josh, scarifying for sure..if theres plenty of grass left it may recover fairly well but hard to say to what degree. Also why is it mossy? It may have been cut short for years,so a higher cut will help..itmay also be clay soil causing boggy ground in which case forking or aeration would be very useful..this is the same for shady gardens, so mowing a touch higher,scarify and aerate will be the ticket..you may need to overseed

    New subscriber here. Great video! I have a small red Robin tree in the middle of my front lawn, how far away from the tree should I spray or would you think it's to bigger risk to spray weedkiller on the lawn. Great content!

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! You should be fine if its not windy to spray up to 2 feet away. Closer ones you can spot spray depending how comfortable you feel. Hold the nozzle closer to a weed and just give a quick burst.. warning though the Lower you get the more risk there is.. if at all unsure dont get close.. practise with just water in the sprayer first.. if you happen to ever think you've sprayed a shrub give those leaves a really good watering right away to rinse off any weedkiller. As a last resort you can buy roll on weedkillers and just wipe the weed leaves.. or dig them out

    Can I ask would you use Glyphosate say for your drive , then rinse out sprayer, then use weedol in the sprayer for lawns? Or do you need two different sprayers?
    Also I've been using washing up liquid to rinse out sprayer, is that necessary?

      Hi .. so as long as you rinse thoroughly ie triple rinsing well.. you should be fine using the same tank for all products.. I would just be aware that going from roundup to other weedkillers make sure its thoroughly rinsed right up inside the tank.. so half fill it.. swish out around and spray out.. repeat 3 times..you can do more and just fill.it swish it and pour it out in a designated spot several times after youve tripled rinsed through the spray lance just for reference I now have around 5 knapsacks I use for dedicated products.. got sick of rinsing for using other products

    Hi Shaun I don't need to apply this year but I've got weedol and used before. It didn't kill the creeping cinqufoil that I wanted it to. I used a ten litre wilko sprayer. It has a fine nozzle and only sprays a width of about an inch?? Do you think its up to the job?. I also tried resolva but no effect. I tried lawn clear and was unsure of the results with regards to creeping cinqufoil
    I did Google it and it said professional weedkiller needed with Headland dicamba mecoprop etc???

      Hi years age used headland relay.. it was a good strength (current version is much weaker)..it killed pretty much anything but it's harder nowadays. Usually the only advice is to keep repeating applications a few times a year just spraying the affected areas. You can add a sticker to it to help it stick to the leaf.. like companion gold or otherwise roundup to kill off the areas then reseed a few weeks later

      Hi.. so POA wont be touched at all with weedkillers. The only answer chemical wise is roundup or anything with glyphosate in it.. then it's a dig out and reseed or new turf.
