Thanks-great demo and I'll be doing this in April. I will try the Mo Bacter too.
Another well executed tutorial video - would have been great to see the lawn two weeks later. Regarding what else to share - how to make a 'lean to' for housing firewood, etc.
nice to find a clear, no nonsense description of how to do things.
Glad it helped
@@TheDIYGuy1 what have you done to your arms mate?
@@davidfarmer2049It's called a tattoo mate. 🙄🤔
AT LAST GOT THE BEST INFORMATION been using the wrong tool for the job been using the attachment for the machine been using the rake and not the blade tool thank you
I still use iron to kill moss. Other treatments are too expensive and to me don't seem to work better or for longer. I agree that the two step method works.
Another really useful video, thanks! I would find tips on choosing and installing a second-hand shed really helpful!
this was extremely helpful thank you so much
I bought a cheap scarify machine years ago - and in all these years I've been using the wrong blade to scarify, I was using the rake attachment and not the blade attachment (should have RTFM)- so thank you DIY Guy for putting me straight.
Anytime 👍
Only need the blade if very bad moss. Rake attachment will do it perfectly and not as hard on the lawn
@@TheDIYGuy1 what have you done to your arms mate?
I used the electric power rake yesterday and filled a 40gallon bin full of moss and thatch. I did bin off the collection bag as well…just useless !
Me too 😞
Great job I’m starting mine this week
Very informative video. Keep up the good work!
Your scarifier is nearly bigger than my lawn. I scarified our lawn one year, took all the thatch and moss out, that gave me the best crop of dandelions ever.
Weed n feed
No moss, no lawn.
Same more weeds that before
That's why he said weed it first... you spread the dandelion across your lawn with the scarifier.
Congratulations
Keep us updated on this lawn renovation mate 👍👍
Will do mate
Great video - I have a very large lawn that is covered with moss and have been looking for this kind of no-nonsense advice for some time!
Glad it was helpful!
I use a scarifier for the first time last year, followed a few vids off utube mowed lawn dug up as much weeds as i possible could, but as my lawn is quite large it was very labour intensife and left some weeds i then scarified, seeded and compost/fed weeks later i had more weeds then ever 😮.
Acksherly... I use an electric scarifier every couple of years, and make sure that my weed patches, sorry 'lawns', are well drained, by forking them as deep as I can. I avoid using moss killer, as I have fruit trees. Each year the moss gets less, but I leave the moss in one area because bumble bees make their nests in it, believe it or not. Nice vid, thanks.
Great video and explanation. Straight to the point!
Thanks
Very useful and informative guide. Now lodged in my brain and ready to retrieve next spring. Cheers.
Glad it was helpful!
Have used my scarifier to cut down into the thatch, didn’t grab too much out initially but then power raked it. That really dragged loads out. I have used the mo bacter instant, applied with a sprayer. Supposed to kill the moss in 24 hours but I will leave it a week or so before reseeding.
And in answer to a previous comment, agreed scarifying isnt a cure for moss but it rectifies the position. Mossy lawns in my experience are due to north facing aspect, shade and inadequate sunlight for the grass to stay robust. So scarifying etc needed every 2to3 years on mine
Would love to see a garden kitchen, greenhouse, raised beds etc. great work on the channel.
Thanks a lot 👍
+1 for a garden kitchen build!
I love moss…fab for wildlife 👍
Good to see follow up video showing how to do overseeding and the final result. Thanks
👍
Thanks for your excellent video, I learned a lot and will certainly act on your advice. A couple of things that I would like you to cover are how and when to apply iron sulphate and how to deal with ant nests in the lawn. I have ant nests that are creating raised mounds causing mowing difficulties.
Use a jet wash on the mounds
A pergola build, I would like to build my own so I’m always looking for some ideas.
Love this channel great advice and easy to follow.👍🏻
Brilliant thanks 😊
Great video and explained well. Just what I needed as I’m doing my lawn in the next week or so.
What would you recommend for over seeding?
Thanks 👍🏼
It would be great to see how to patch up warped or damaged fence panels. 👍
A top tip after the final raking up is to run the mower over the lawn again to pick up remaining debris.
👍 thanks
I always do!
Hi. Love the video, and thanks. But, and it's a big but. Do you mean coverage is one hundred square metres because one hundred metres square is huge.
@@WadeMBWit’s only 10m x 10m
@@WadeMBWYou may need to go back to school
Thanks for the video very useful love the lawn hate the moss 👍
Great video, thanks!🇬🇧
Mate a nice pond. Good for the senses and the environment. Love the channel. Top bloke.
Thanks 👍 good suggestions
@@TheDIYGuy1 only just found your channel mate. ! Think it's bloody brilliant. I know fuck all about D I Y but just listening and watching what you doing is amazing. Great presentation. Thanks for all that.
Top video very useful as I need to sort mine out, would love to see power tools intergrated into a work station/bench or work top
Yes I recognise the smell. It is definitely chicken manure. Fab video really helped me. I'd been using the wrong head on my scarifier to start.
Literally just bought that exact scarifier, bit of a beast, my lawn is about 475m2 so it’s gonna be worth every penny.
👍🤗
Few things, I use this too, I don’t scarify at all, I put it on in blazing hot weather and then I don’t water in, the moss never goes brown, just disappears over the next 6 weeks.
My mo bacter just arrived. Thanks for a great video.
Your welcome 🙏
It would be great if you could do a vid on laying flagstones for patios and/or how to repoint/relay existing flagstones that have become uneven/wobbly to step on. Thank you.
Great thanks
Would like to see you build a wooden Gazebo if possible 😊
small garden office that is insulated would be great.
Great video mate
Brilliant information to the point no bullshit well done
Thanks for this video mate, gonna copy it step by step in a few weeks 😅
No problem 👍
Thankfully I have a petrol leaf vac. Makes short wok of picking it all up with its massive bag.
I have an electric dethatcher. It works very well. I have used a leaf blower instead of raking. I also compost the debris.
I didn't think of composting the moss- good call
I’m gonna start a composter next year. What type do you recommend?
Install an above ground vegetable garden, and an above ground pond and waterfall makes for a nice sound in the yard attracts birds and through in a few good fish
DIY patio, decking, pergola, shed would be fab!
Awesome ideas thanks
Great instructional video and will no doubt give rise to many people having greener, moss reduced lawns as a result this summer.
One thing I do when using the motorised bladed scarifier is leave the bag off and additionally use a bungy cord over the handles with the ends hooked under the edges to hold the rear deflector flap slightly higher, thus preventing the removed moss, etc... from building up on the underside of the scarifier as you go.
Great tip this 👍
I do this with a broken bamboo stick, wedged in it keeps the flap up at the right height to not hit my legs with debris
Oh smart
Repointing a paved patio. Do I have to remove all the old pointing? Bit of a nuisance.
Why is moss a problem?! It’s lovely.
Great video as usual - ideas for builds... things to do with old pallets
Thanks great suggestion
Great video. Question - I did this in October, which meant I was too late to overseed. Now I've noticed quite a bit of the moss and weeds have come back over the winter. Would you recommend doing it again in spring, or would I be stressing out the lawn too much?
Nice video. Thank you. I have moss problem in landscaped area, i.e Silver bryum moss amongst decorative stones and paving slabs. How can I adapt your method in non-lawn area such as pebbles, stones, paving.
I have this problem now again this year! I used a product called ZERO but I don’t rate it I am going to try your new secret 😉👏💪
The grass clippings will breakdown in the soil & make it more acidic. This will encourage moss. Put lime down on the grass to neutralise the acidity.
Thanks for the video! Normally, I don't wait a few days after cutting the grass to scarify. Why is that better?
great video - thanks. At what point would you aerate? After the 2-3 weeks the Mo-Bacter has done its job?
Really great video, comprehensive, easy to follow with your very clear step by step guidelines and not over long for my ADHD brain to process.
👍🙌
Brilliant Cameron
Thanks 😊
Just Found your site,Really useful ,Thanks
Great to hear!
Simpler - water on iron sulphate evenly to kill the moss then scarify out. Works well and cheap as chips. Iron will green the lawn as well. By not doing second pass you might not need to reseed as well reducing total cost.
Hi mate, great video and really helpful! Although plenty of rain at the moment in Manchester so will probably have to wait until March. How soon after applying the Mo Backter can I over seed?
Thank for a really helpful video. Guess what my next job in the garden will be . . . ?
I want to lay some Yorkshire stone flags (2m x 2m) what prep besides a weed barrier do I need to do and do I use cement or gravel or sand and do I need a whacker? I’m putting a greenhouse on top.
Thank you for getting scarifier and raker correct 😂 does my head in when folk call a raker a scarifier!
Cheers mate, great video! I'd love to get some advice on how to handle ant infestations on your lawn; I've got anthills popping up everywhere and just can't get on top of them.
One of the finest products I have found to remove all my wide leaf weeds prior to addressing the moss problem is Dicophar. I use a golf cart sprayer to apply (my lawns are 2/3 of an acre) and the effects can be seen after about just one week. It's brilliant for daisies and dandelions. Great video for what I need to do afterwards to clear the moss out. I'd love you to try Dicophar and then maybe see you give it a go in one of your videos, it really is that good. Cheers
Thanks for sharing
A nice dark green lawn like mine
Very informative and well presented, is there going to be a second video on seeding and feeding the lawn? Recommendation on lawn feed? Are the products pet friendly?
Very informative video, thanks for posting it. However, I would like to see what the lawn looked like after the Mo Bacter did its stuff and then how you seeded the lawn and how it looks now - especially as it's been a year.
I thought the same. Also wondered how long before re-seeding and did you scarify again before re-seeding and was any fertiliser used or just compost?
Perfect timing!
😊 great
Great video! How can I get rid of a bumpy lawn - 2acres (large) terrain? What are the options I have (in Belgium)?
Seeing a patio being laid would be great and a huge help for me as I’m thinking of doing this
Thanks 😊
Second this! Will be doing a full lay down myself in a few weeks but can certainly hold off and wait for a video for tips first :)
Over seeding video
I’ve scarified all year round same results (do it for a living.)
when is the latest you can use the scarifier and lawn treatment as we have had a very wet spring
This is great advice...very helpful..but at my time of life I hade my garden ripped up and layed artificial gras, now after a few years I find a bit of moss coming through were it used to when I had a real lawn, is there any way I can remove this please
Scarified my lawn the other week and applied a product from B&Q
Purely cos I hadn’t researched a good product.
After watching your video, I’ve purchased Mo Bacta from eBay.
I’ll do the scarifying again, this time lady to right once I’ve done up and down the garden.
Will leave Feedback of my experience I. A couple of weeks. Thanks
Good stuff. Look forward to hearing how you get on
Hi, great video, thanks! I bought a scarifier last year, but didnt use Mo Bacter. The products I have been using always scorch the lawn, so I've been left with patches. Could you post a video on how to put the correct amount of grass seed and which grass seed to use?! All the ones I've tried just dont last from year to year, some just dont grow at all :-(
could you please do video on best sweepersm or most efficient ones. Also could you please make video about the drainage for the gardens, in which situation where to put it if garden under angle. would be grate some thorough video on that.
I'm about to fully revamp my garden. I'd like to see how to best convert from a low fence to a high perimeter of any kind, fence or preferably a wall with some kind of render. I also intend to start growing food, want to build a pergola over a new patio and eventually put in a new shed. This year, the perimeter, moss removal and LEVELING for new grass and patio/decked area are all planned. Lots to go on then
👍👍
Really helpful as my lawn is dire need of moss removal. The Hyundai scarifier looks to be a great bit of kit and has very good reviews. Am seriously thinking of getting one but can’t find the discount code you mentioned. Thanks for the video.
its a generic chinese petrol scarifier, ive the Cobra one thats the same. loncin engines. tis a good job.
Hope you'll show us what it looks like in a few months time!
Would love to see you do a gazebo of some sort as it would look lovely in your size garden. Great video as well 😁
Great idea!
Decking, patios, fencing or outdoor masonry painting. 👍
Thanks 🙏
Great job
👍👍
Thank You. Excellent video. Scarifying is a skill! Learn from my Uncle for me and our methods are very similar. Not sure when you did this, editing etc, As you say much depends on the weather. More gardening would be appreciated. Weeding? The usual suspects! Thanks again. Hope the renovation project going well?
Thanks Keith. Reno going well thanks 🙏
best way to level out grass
sand or top soil
the best way
the best way
After mo-bacter has done its job for 2 weeks is it ok to do a final scarify, clean up then overseed
Awesome video mate thanks! Great tattoos btw too
Hey, thanks!
@@TheDIYGuy1 no worries mate,, got some real nice sleeve work! Do you have more?
Only one on my leg. Cheers
The product Ironman works great and feeds the grass
Workshop build would be great to see
Can you apply this on new grass seed that was laid 2 weeks ago?
I have moss on the ground around my tree what's the best to use should I try see if I can borrow a scarifier or is there anything else I can do as the rest grass
I cured mine completely, I now have a plastic lawn and it looks good year round with the odd hoovering (yes really).
Grim
A video dealing with clover would be good. Thanks 😊
Could you give some ideas on improving lawn drainage.
Aeration
Outside lighting around the garden would be nice. Fire pit a good shout too or a brick barbecue
👍👍
Just spray it with iron sulphate. Far cheaper than gimmick products and it improves the condition of your grass and makes it nice and green. The moss will be dead in a day or two, then scarify it to take out the dead moss. You could treat a large lawn at least 3 times with a tenners worth of iron. Guaranteed that this is the active ingredient in the product you’re plugging.
Is it okay to fertilize first before i start this procedure.
i'd like to see a video on effective drainage for household lawns with the pros and cons of french drains, soakaways, vertical soil injecting clearly explained
👍
Great instructional video. Only downside for me is thinking - do I really want yet another garden appliance cluttering up my garage?!
👍
Brilliant stuff..keep it up mate...However I've a lawn that dies in a long streak one side of the garden ..already its going bare
Will do thanks
A vid on the next step please, making a nice lawn, feeding etc
👍 Thanks
Power rakes do work for moss removal... However they aren't as likely to score grooves into the soil which is what you want for overseeding after a heavy scarification. If the moss isn't terrible, a power rake is better than a scarifier as the lawn will recover faster.
are there any cheaper or manual scarifiers available? i don't mind doing the manual labour for it
