Thanks very much. I guess the 35g per 1m2 application rate in the retail products (most have this as the maximum rate) is so there is more filler material to aid even distribution. I try to use the max rate in Spring a lower rate 25g per 1m2 in mid-late Summer. I have made a similar “Thing” for my hand spreader from a plastic Lego brick with a hole in it. Its best to weigh out the amount needed rather than use a measuring jug.
Spin up the spreader first then pull the trigger to avoid the big initial dump of fertilizer. I'm sure Lawnright knows this already but it may help someone else. Great channel you have here.
Thanks for the tip! The obvious things I do sometimes overlook.. Also this can happen if its not kept super clean all the time, as some dust will get trapped in the opening forcing it to not seal shut perfectly (happens a lot to me)
I might be misunderstanding but 250 ml is 250 grams only in water, with different densities the weight will not match the volume, so you might be putting on a lot more or a lot less than required. for example, 250 grams of gold is around 13 ml of gold and 250 grams of flour is 455 ml of flour.
Hi.. thanks for the comment, I need to look into this :) The bag is 10kg and it was asking me to put down close to a third, so hopefully I got it about right
I've used this stuff twice this year. First at the end of march then again 8vweeks later. So far the results have been great. I also used the A 1 platinum Pro grass seed with rye. Good stuff 🙂
For getting rid of iron stains on concrete, I use fallout remover for car wheels. Spray it on and wait for it to go purple. Then scrub with a scrubbing brush and hose off. Works quite well.
I just rewatched this video as my A1 fertiliser is being delivered this week. They say water in for a week if no rain is due, how long do you think is needed for watering in as I'm not sure if it's 10 minutes a day or 1 hour a day. Cheers!
I think the reason they use less concentrated ferts at a higher rate is that it’s more forgiving of mistakes when applying it, which makes sense for domestic use
Great video yet again Shaun, love them! I bought a bag of A1 Spring/Summer fertiliser a couple of weeks ago and yet to use it, but I was planning on using my new Gardena L Drop Spreader. It's always windy up here in NE Scotland, so a handheld or (broadcast spreader) would be tricky most times. I also need to be more accurate, especially as I have a few obstacles like lavender beds in the middle and narrower lawn strips. Is there a specific reason you wouldn't use a drop spreader for applying fertiliser or just personal preference? Mick 🙂
Hi Mick I've not used one for fert.. only for seeds. Logically it should be fine for all the reasons you gave but ive heard stories of people using them and getting uneven coverage so it ends up heavy in places. All I can say is go on a light setting and see how it goes. I really ought to do the same
That 35 grams per square meter has a big fudge factor for the home owner as well you could easily put that down at 50 grams per square meter I stick to liquid fert myself
Thanks for the input/ For 20 odd years Ive just popped fert in the hopper and applied with no issues.. This was my first newbie experience with an off the shelf product, I found it odd that they asked to apply close to 3 times what I woulkd normally apply
I think you're right there, as I've just started paying attention to these things and my lawn this year and just about everything I've come across seems to be centered around 35g/m2 which for me as a beginner at the ripe old age of 56, is easy to remember if it's the same figure across the range of products. That may or may not be the idea, who knows?
i have put down A1 Lawn AM Pro 26 Multi Purpose Grass Seed and its came up beautiful like your grass i am thinking of doing the fertalizer also does it make it more lusher and better looking
@@LawnRight i have the autum and winter bag i have already put mine down a few months ago how long to you need to keep putting it down my grass is beautiful at the moment in november just not long gave it 1 last cut and its beautiful i wouldnt change my grass seed other than a1 lawn seed and feed its lovely looking and if i see a weed or few i just go out and fork them up and take out then pat the grass back down gently not damaging the grass itself let me know how many times i need to put the stuff down every so often
@@jamiefairlie4837 Hi you can put it down while ever the grass is growing.. typically end of November at the latest but if it stays mild maybe an extra month... and no more often than once a month :)
I scorched it 2 weeks ago in 3 different places and it’s now starting to go green after blasting it with the garden hose…. Still a good bit to go though before it’s gone
Hi Shaun. New to the lawn care scene and learning as I go👍 I have a clay lawn and newish turf (3 months). Looking to follow a schedule for my lawn care starting in the autumn. What do you recommend I use in autumn and winter? Don’t want to scarify since the grass is new but considering aerating with a garden fork - is that okay? Also, what type of top dressing should i add (if any)? Any advice would be appreciated!
Hi Is there a domestic scarifier/raker you would recommend? I have an old scarifier my dad gave me years ago and I think it's time to replace it as the collection box is long gone and it throws the dead grass all over the place. Also I need to redo my lawn so which is the best grass seed to use? Thanks. Tim.
Hi Tim any grass seed will be ok, in my opinion, just go for a general amenity seed. A1 seeds or Boston seeds are highly spoke of. Boston seeds I've heard they provide advice and help also. As for the scarifier it comes down to budget. I use stihl rl540, but screwfix do one for around £70 which is quite good..
What make is your spreader, it looks like it has an edge guard on it. Also do you know if female cat pee kills grass. I have a bald patch on my front lawn and can't figure out how it got there. My neighbours cat visits regularly but normally under the hedge. Thanks.
Hi, only a drop spreader does this "comes out in a straight line", but the holes may not be big enough for fertiliser to fall through.. these are relatively inexpensive.. The one I use wouldnt work well as a fert spreader I dont think, but havent actually tried this .... Other than that a pro spreader with an edge guard such as an accupro 2000 (around £500 tho!)
What fertilizer do you normally use then? I usually buy ICL Greenmaster for my lawn which i would consider a more professional range and that's also 30-35g/sq.m
Hi Shawn, I’ve got a lawn full of weeds in amongst our grass but purchased this product along with reseeding and weed and moss killer all from A1 Lawn what product do you recommend we use first?
Hi Lisa I'd probably seed now and give it 2 months before applying any weedkillers.. If you feed and weed now you won't be able to seed for a good 6 weeks which is then getting very hot and would require considerable watering
@@lisagibson4876 Hi you can do both on the same day, I usually apply fertiliser first, then spray the weedkiller so im not standing on it too many times :)
Hi Shaun, I have measured my lawn today front and back, came to a total of 113 square metres, having previously thought it was 50. In this video or another video I mentioned that I just filled the spreader and apply (one pass thinking this was enough and had great results) Anyway the bag says to apply at 20 to 30grams per square metres, the bag itself is 2 5kg bag. Does that mean I need to use the whole bag up? Seeing as I have put some fertiliser down a few weeks back after scarifying, does this mean I could use the rest of the bag up say end of October? Or am thinking when I get a winter fertiliser i coukd just start with that so as not to put to much fertiliser down?
Hi Graham.. so if its the spring/summer fert you are referring to (as in this video) I def wouldnt put any of that down now as while itll green up it can cause a lot of growth which might be hard to mow when its wet. I do agree though that the A1 bag I used blew my mind with how much was needed. It actually ended up being about 1 full hand spreader full (about 3 or 4 times what Id normally put down..) but at the 70 odd sq metres it wasnt anywhere near a full bag, maybe a quarter or a third.. but anyway.. yes if its 20g per sqm thats 2000 grams for 100 sq metre so sounds right..
Hi.. thanks for the comments both of you, I need to look into this :) The bag is 10kg and it was asking me to put down close to a third, so hopefully I got it about right (fingers crossed)... I read that 1kg is the same as 1 litre (in my naivety), but I will take a closer look.. so far the lawn seems fine (been a few weeks since it was applied)
Hi Shaun, thanks for video. Always good to see how things are done 👍
No problem 👍 :)

Technically you could.. it's just food.. but youd need to apply at the right dosage.. I've never done it so all I can say is treat with care.
