October 2023 I got the 12100f for $63 (including tax & shipping). Somewhere down the line I'll swap it out for like a 14700k. It just made more sense than spending more at the time. (And was a big upgrade over my 4790k system.)

i would only get a 13100f over a 12100f if it's 5% more expensive, not 10%. It's only 5% faster and also you need a motherboard with bios flashback or that supports it which is a headache.

i got a ryzen 5 5600 instead for $20 more...it's a 6 core cpu with 12 threads and i managed a 4.5ghz oc at 1,1075v with just the stock cooler...15% more performance compared to stock and temps never go over 65c when gaming, i had never gotten an amd cpu before and i'm pretty impressed You can't overclock i3 13100f at all and comparing it to my oc ryzen it's at least 30% stronger single core and 70% stronger multicore in cinebench r23

the 13100f turned out to be a disappointement with barely any improvement over the 12th gen. price to performance it makes more sense to go with the 12th.
You do get more budget mobo options with the 12100f cause you might need bios flash back or access to a 12th gen chip for a 13100f to work on some 600 series boards which are cheaper right then 700 series.

I don't think you should go for a 4 core processor. Save a bit more and go for 6 core Idk what your budget is but . For Intel build I would go for b460 and i5 10400f For Ryzen b450 and Ryzen 5 5500 or If you could save up little bit more get 5600 . it's worth the money. For GPU I would go for Rx 5700xt red devil or sapphire nitro+ or cheaper version gaming oc or xfx. For ram I would go for "corsair vengeance lpx 16gb 3200mhz for 40$" and for PSU get 600wat.
If you are on a budget, in my opinion get a Ryzen 5 4500, it'll be much cheaper overall (including upgrades) and more cores. (Although it won't be as future proof as the I3s since am4 is basically dead)
I have the 12100f cpu and it's so good combined with my Zotac 3050 very nice budget build for me all parts available. But my case was a little on the expensive side, like $426cad but that's not a problem I was gonna make a 4080 build not to long ago with crazy parts, people laugh saying I could have gotten a 3070 if it hadn't been for the expensive case. But like I said I went cheap because for the future I'll show them what I was gonna make lol

12100f has pretty much the same performance as the 13100f and it’s 76-90 bucks on Amazon when paired with the arc 750
