      Its really not that crazy when you consider all these parts are from China, and Apple has some factories in China. On top of that, Shenzen is the capital of computer hardware in the world. You have been able to buy individual parts from variety of different shops for any iPhone in Shenzen for a VERY long time now. One of the first iPhones with USB-C (before the 15) was done with parts from Shenzen. AliExpress just moves those shops from Shenzen to online, allowing anybody to order parts.
      If you find this video interesting, I recomend you look into builds from UA-camrs who live and work in Shenzen. if you can dream it, you very likely can build it in Shenzen.

    I think building your own iPhone from scratch is a great technical exercise/learning experience to improve one’s eduction/understanding. It’s the same as building your own PC, but assembling an iPhone has its own unique challenges.
    I wouldn’t do this to make your own daily phone or to sell/distribute, but I support it for learning.

    • @Bikertrons
      @Bikertrons 2 місяці тому +24

      Back when I was 16, I remember tearing down my iPhone 4S completely, every part, out it came! and put it back together and it worked fine, it is a great way to learn but wouldn't recommend doing it if it's your only device like I did lol (Put back together with 0 issues so, no problem there lol) It helps to have a good memory like I do and to plan out where things go incl screws smartly for example, putting the screws you undid, with the part they belong too!

    • @DunnsDayDash
      @DunnsDayDash 2 місяці тому

      @@Bikertrons
      For me, I started taking things apart early on, like 3-5yo.
      Like any kid, some of my toys would break and you either have to live with a broken toy or trash it/replace it. Until one day a favorite toy of mine broke internally, and I refused to accept reality…so I took it apart to see what happened (after all, I didn’t have much to lose).
      Sure enough, I was able to get a view of what happened, tinkered with the parts to understand how they work, and was able to fix it then put it back together. A light bulb went off that day. It lit me up “like a rag soaked in gasoline, in the neck of a bottle breaking right at my feet”.
      Both of our stories highlight an important truth in life:
      The best way to truly understand something is to take it apart to its smallest pieces, observe where they go and how they function with the rest of the pieces, then take on the challenge of putting it back together to its exact original working condition/state.
      I encourage everyone to take apart/reassemble something atleast once, especially if the opportunity presents itself.
      It doesn’t matter if it’s a toy or a phone, it will be one of the most important moments of anyone’s life in disguise, despite how silly that may seem.

      I had my sisters old iphone 4 black model which was completely shattered from both front and back, home and power buttons were not working. Changed screen and back to white color, and multiple times changed home button and power button because i managed to break flex cables while trying to put on display. It was an amazing experience, especially teaching me how fragile some components are and iphone 4 was super modular and easy compared to later android phones i fixed (to be exact sony Z series, everything is so tight and glued in its almost impossible to do anything without breaking some flex cable in the process)

      The thing is, the ATX standards naturally ALLOW you to choose different parts that have perfect compatibility with one an another. When it comes to Laptops or especially something more embedded as a phone, every single part used works perfectly with each other you can't add anything or remove anything to your liking. (I know and am aware things like display modules, or batteries and a few things can be changed, but it only stops at that)

    5:33 that's a Lattice FPGA, an FPGA is basically a chip that you can program at the hardware level, in other words you can make your own custom chip. My guess is that they somehow (maybe took a die photo) reverse engineered the chip on the original displays and reimplemented it on the FPGA

    • @shadowflash705
      @shadowflash705 2 місяці тому +23

      It's simple - old/broken phones are sold to companies in China etc. Where they salvage the parts. Like you can get mostly original display for 10 years old phone - they take a working display with broken glass, heat it in special heater so the glue can be detached then glue a new glass. So you get a screen which isn't factory original but got original LCD and touchscreen. And that's a great job they are doing - i'm far from being an ecoactivist, but seeing stuff being reused instead of going to waste is always nice. Even more when it comes to PC parts since they have much longer life cycle - 13 years old high-end PC/Mac with 16-32Gb of RAM is still a beast when it comes to home/office tasks.

    if you work in a semiconductor company that produces these parts, you know that there're no "fake" parts. the products are just sorted to "Pass" and "Fail". Some products that made fall into the fail category, but it doesn't mean that the product is not functioning, because some products fail only because the labeling or the markings are not visible.
