Rational Gaze
I mean, Obzen is a legendary album that set the tone for the future but Koloss man, that shit is full of banger and my personal fav Demiurge, you should do that track again 😂
Vektor- recharging the void
Its a masterpiece. Space thrash.
After where we were recommending this, I was going to listen to it - but I held off in hopes I could rock it with ya!
If Meshuggah, you like, then Vildhjarta listen next.
This is why Jens should write more of their songs
I agree, and disagree at the same time.. Is there a term for that? Wink wink.. Bro.. All of them are gifted in this shit.. They are the Godfathers.. Each have their own song they've written that are just fucking brutal on an astral level..
So yes.. Jens should write more (fucking love this song).. But so should the others.. Because the God of Cyanide can only be, if all parts form as one.. \m/
Demons Name is Surveillance next!
AGREED
It's my dream that one day it will be played live...
@@radalictand behind the sun and i
Koloss is totally underrated, I love almost every track on the album
I'm totally ok with you doing Meshuggah's entire discography! They are easily one of the biggest influences on modern metal, you can hear traces of them everywhere these days it seems.
Meshuggah - Rational Gaze from their album "Nothing".
Suuuuuuuuch a groove 🤘
By far their heaviest track to date. If you close your eyes you can almost picture Godzilla coming out of the sea to this.
This song is so fucking epic
6:48 is the best thing i've ever heard in ANY Meshuggah song, and I've fully listened to 3 of their albums. Nothing has topped this soundscape.
This song is such a beast! Since you're moving onto this album I'd love to see a reaction to "Do Not Look Down" and "The Hurt That Finds You First", both are absolutely awesome songs!
Basically every song is absolutely awesome
MAAARRROOOOWWWWW!!
Do Not Look Down. If it’s groove you crave, it’s the one on this album.
Actually this is one of those very rare songs that was written by Jens Kidman (the vocalist). I love this song, try Do not Look Down next. And also you really should listen to the Japanese band Boris, start with flower, sun, rain from their album smile (U.S version). Cheers.
I love that the vocalist has written their most intense song of all time, so awesome. It's my favourite. So groovy but so brutal.
My favorite track from Koloss, and from the band in general nowadays, such a massive grower, Jens (vocals) wrote this one on his own, this man is underrated af
The transition from "I Am Colossus" into "The Demon's Name is Surveillance" would be pretty epic to listen to back to back, as they are the first 2 tracks on the album.
Corridors Of Chameleons
Rational Gaze (like in Tokyo)
Do Not Look Down
This was filthy though, fair play Drew
Corridors of Chameleons is pure filth.
Corridor of Chameleons absolutely!
Finally someone mentions the real GOAT Meshuggah track. Chaosphere is my favorite Shug album for sure.
Rational Gaze for popular pick
Corridor Of Chameleons for less popular
Both of these songs plz!
** Just not the music video for Rational Gaze. Cool video but it cuts out part of the song.
@@joshkuchmy8801 Important, it's cut down significantly
FLOURISH BY THE CONTORTIONIST
Meshuggah violent sleep of reason is on a whole level
Perpetual Black Second
..Nothing waits for you, Drew.
Marrow next plssss, it's such a banger of a track!!
Clockworks drum play through.... Holy Fuck. It’s unbelievable.
Drew, you need to see this. Seriously. Haake is a drum God.
This is my favorite Meshuggah album. I'v listened to all of them many times but this one got so many goodies😄
5:00 is where the song went crazy heavy
Favourite track on the album. Gives me that tingling feeling every time.
The tingle in that astral scrotum.. I feel it.. I get it, brother..
You may as well do their entire discography at this point😂
I AM COLOSSUS! Best chorus ever... uh, I mean BEST CHORUS EVER! ;-)
Fun fact the singer Jens kidman wrote this song! Anyway opinion is when Frederik stopped writing music after obzen album and forward meshuggah lost its innovative power most things from koloss and newer can be found on obzen I understand why he got bored with meshuggah and left for his solo project/studio building. If his solo album ever reach light we will see.. Anyway... This song is one one of the best on the album imo.
Fredrik is so much fun to listen to.
What in the world are you on about?! Fredrik wrote songs for both Koloss and The violent sleep of reason. He just stopped touring with them to focus on his second solo album as well as building a studio.
Not according to recent Thomas haake interview
@@AA-ou2ye can you send the link for that interview please? i'm legit interested
@@davetorres3906 do not remember which but it was kind of clear that Fredrik have not writing pretty much nothing on koloss and latest album on upcoming 2021 album have not been writing a anything. Morten is more responsible for the more melodic meshuggah while Frederik is more about the anti music and atonal riffs, listen to sol niger within..
Koloss is one of the few albums I splurged on; got a physical CD and a t-shirt which I still wear to this day.. its a great album
Fun fact: this is one of the only Meshuggah songs that was written entirely by Jens, the vocalist!
You have to listen to their song Nebulous from the album Nothing (remastered version because it's slower than the original)
catch 33 should be in order because it’s one song!! can’t wait for u to hear it!
Kinda disappointed you didn't move onto Nothing next but Koloss is still a huge album. If you're sticking with this I reckon you should do either Marrow or Do Not Look Down next, both immense tunes.
Koloss>Nothing
But just barely
@@geraltoftexas7631 I love Koloss but Nothing is far better, it's not even close.
@@iamjatan I prefer the production and slow brutality of Koloss more.
Man the atmosphere on this track
Do Not Look Down and Marrow are my favorite tracks from this album, both are guaranteed to fucking blow your mind, seriously. \m/
Welcome to Koloss!
You NEED to hear Leprous - Contaminate Me ft Ihsahn (Live at Rockefeller Music Hall). Its absurd.
Also, Opeth - Master's Apprentices and Serenity Painted Death. You will not regret it.
Oh and try Ihsahn - Unhealer, ft Mikael Åkerfeldt too.
"The hurt that finds you first", might be the most ridiculous drum track on the album. I guess you'll see.
The Hurt That Finds You First, Swarm, and The Demon's Name Is Surveillance
Great reaction, this is my favorite song!!!
The Demon's Name is Surveillance is a testament to Tomas' stamina as a drummer, especially in terms of what he can do with his feet. The pattern follows a pattern consisting of 1, then 2, then 3 accented notes. Once you get the hang of it, it's a pretty easy song to follow overall. Absolutely relentless though.
Music in this song is written by Jens Kidman. Pretty awesome.
Do Not Look Down or I Am Colossus next! Do Not Look Down is a straight up banger and maybe their grooviest song imo. And I Am Colossus is chuggy and just heavy as fuck. Absolutely enormous track
Dude thank you for reacting to this one !!! I saw a lot of people suggesting Do not look down
And let's be honest
Do not look down on those comments
Cause this song is GROOVY AF you'll love it
The violent sleep of reason since you like slower tempo.
SWARM from the same album. Awesome track and I think there's no reaction video on UA-cam yet.
Very cool that you do the less well known songs
My favorite 'Shuggah album for sure.
Next Meshuggah tracks - just continue with the rest of Koloss. You've got a lot of comments asking for all the ones from this album, and I second that.
Other bands to check out that are djent-y:
"Nonagon" by Car Bomb
"Philistine Philosophies" by SikTH
"I, the Destroyer" by Monuments
"Repugnant" by The Odious
Every song in every Meshuggah album please !! :D
Im not sure if you did this one (i couldnt find it) but "Born in Dissonance" by Meshuggah has been the grooviest, heaviest, fave of mine.
Also i would highly recommend you check out the live EMG recording of "Kingdom" by devin townsend
And Strapping Young Lads "oh my f****** god"
Love the channel pal 🤘
I think this album is under appreciated, do not look down and marrow are straight 🔥🔥🔥
Also Swarm is super groovy, its not their most complicated song by far, just a basic 3 over 4 polyrhythm idea developed over the song but its one of my favorites to crank up in my car.
.....
....
Also check out After The Burial - Collapse 😘😘
Rational gaze and Perpetual black second are the 2 that made me realise just how good these guys are
By far my favorite song from Meshuggah! Great reaction. It's really good to see how much you've been paying much more intention to the drums recently.
From Meshuggah, I'd go with Born in Dissonance. Brutal song!
If you want to make a little come-back with Gojira (this song reminds me of them), I have two recommandations : Pray (live at red Rock, extended version). From their last album, something really intense with more of Joe's clean vocal.
The other one is Inferno (live). A short song, Mario is absolutely insane on this one. Since you're paying more attention to the drums, you'll like it. Joe's scream on that is incredibly great. The lockdown made him find a great scream again.
I usually don't comment, so sorry for the long ass comment. Keep doing your stuff, I don't miss a single video from you! Greetings from France.
Love this journey with Meshuggah.
Can't wait for you to check out Sikth - Bland Street Bloom :)
We all know that you have to go through them all but maybe continue with this album, I’m still locked on Do Not Look Down...and every other track! 🤘🏻😬
"Spasm" from Nothing or "The Exquisite Machinery of Torture" from Chaosphere!
They're different compared to the stuff you know from them
I know that you have reacted to Clockworks before. But now you are more tuned to their music. So I recommend you check it out again, also this time you should look at the drum playthrough. Haake is truly a beast
Never enough Meshuggah me buddy. Demons Name is Surveillance ftw.
Like dropped. Video appreciated. This track is SO good, and the reaction is fun as always. Keep it up!
This is the only song by them a have fully learned to play on guitar😄
Personally my favorite Meshuggah track.
Definitely continue with Koloss. The Demon's Name is Surveillance is an absolute face melter.
The album opener I Am Colossus is something else! An insane track, with an amazingly creepy stop-motion video.
The rhythm is super fucked in that one though, it might be the only track where i still get confused because of the 2 different tempos going on, many listens later. However, if you just headbang to the guitars (instead of the drums this time) it makes the most sense to me.
It’s actually not as hard as it seems the best way to feel it is by just ignoring the accents on the triplets
Actually the guitars are the illusionary tempo formed by crossing 4 and 2 note groupings against the steady groupings of triplets that are the driving force in the song. The hihat on the drums beats on the quarter notes and the snare is on beat three per usual.
My band actually has a cover of this where the hihat is more pronounced for the tempo ua-cam.com/video/lP_4a__kqQQ/v-deo.html
@@drumkidstu Checked it out and thats really cool actually, nice job! Having been a meshuggah fan for quite a long time by now, i've gotten really used to finding the 4/4 groove in their songs automatically, but this song always intrigued me in how it was only after actively trying to find a constant 4/4 later on, i realised the more obvious 4/4 during the bridge(chill middlepart) had been there all along and never changed. Especially just before that, in the original, the druns seem to abandon that groove alltogether, making the transition to that middlepart so unexpected (in a good way ofcourse)
Your cover i think kept that 4/4 more prevelant in the drums, which clarified it a lot better for me, so thanks, that was really cool! (However, I've grown to love exactly that ambiguity in the original, as it catches me off-guard in a similar way as "regular meshuggah songs" would to new listeners i imagine)
Or i guess i should call it 12/8 instead of 4/4 with triplets...
Hahahaha :D You actually played my voice mail from IG in your video (I'm Toby Vercetti on IG) Well, now you know how to pronounce it, so go practice! haha
Btw, Koloss is the swedish word for Colossus ;)
Now you do Catch 33 from start from finish!!!
2:27 Dick (bassplayer): Time to listen up, bro!!
BTW, doom eternal has a DLC called the ancient gods part 1
The soundtracks aren't made by Gordon,
They're made by David Levy (RWBY)& Andrew Hulshult (DUSK)
here are some OST titles:
UAC (David Levy)
blood swamps (Andrew Hulshult)
Trial of Maligog (David Levy)
Equestrian Holt (Andrew Hulshult)
final boss battle (Andrew Hulshult)
It's different, but amazing nevertheless
Thank you love the videos
🤘 would like to see your reaction to a live song from meshuggah....
Nostrum is badass to
The hurt that finds you first off this album
You should have Heard it live. It was absolutely devestating!
This is epic . Monstrous!!
You definitely need to listen to after the burial!!
YEESSSSSSSSS THANK YOU DREW
The original nothing ablum it has to be done! The nugroove is outrageous on that album, it is the best blend of old and new Meshuggah drew is only starting to glimpse upon.
Next song either, Swarm, Marrow or the title song of the album Koloss!
Love that your journey is taking you this way, glad you're enjoying the bands! Meshuggah in particular
Would love to see you react to Revocation, they don't get enough love from the react community
Dismantle the Dictator
The Watchers
Copernican Heresy
Outer Ones
All would be great tracks
Pls Straws Pulled At Random its such a fucking underrated song Especially the ending of it
Do not look down next!!! I pushed the like button ;)
Yesss!! Also, everybody seems to forget about "I Am Colossus" - the music and the video are just incredible!
Also drew If you want the ultimate Meshuggah long listen, listen to catch 33 in one sitting as a UA-cam listen through epic. It's a piece not an album that needs to be listened to in whole
You must get your Marrow on, son
I Am Colossus is a good one off this album
Absolutely! The music video is phenomenal as well!
Great Suff again man. Throw a washer onto the part of your lamp that you turn to tighten and keep in place it if it's still coming for your head :P
FINALLYYYY
Do swarm next, it’s awesome
THE CONTORTIONIST- INTRINSIC
NUFF SAID
I keep scrolling through the comments and hardly ever see Beneath from Destroy Erase Improve. Wryyy!
yup... i agree... Do Not Look Down if you dig Koloss vibes ;)
Underrated favourite for sure! Plenty of great Meshuggah suggestions so I'll be recommending Haken as usual
NEXT the hurt that finds you first !!!!
Awesome and yes😀.
The Hurt that finds you First is the best song on this album
I think thats on obzen
My bad, no i was wrong, its on koloss
Koloss!! Yes!! Do. Not. Look. Down!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Fkn finally!!!
Must admit I'd never listened to Meshugah, the reason I thought I'd check them out was after watching Thomas Haake on the rototoms with Tool on one of the best things I've ever heard playing Triad. I'd noticed Tool had a few different guests playing Triad live but none of the drummers were anywhere near as compatible with DC on Triad as Haake. Any drummer who plays along with & is as compatible with DC as him deserves a good listening to in my opinion. Once again great review mate.
The whole album is a fuckin banger!!!
Love that you're having your mind blown by these guys. Meshuggah is quite simply the most intriguing extreme prog band in the world. So f'n cool and awesome 🤘🤘🤘
RATIONAL GAZE BROTHA!!
SWARM!!!
