Check out “I”. That is, if you’re up for a Meshuggah track that’s 21 MINUTES LONG.
Also, “New Millennium Cyanide Christ” is one of their staple tracks. They play it at every show.
I can't get enough of the simple rhythm that is woven into this freight train of a track. The rhythm that starts off as 1, 1 2, 1 2 3, 1, 1 2, 1 2 3, 1, then transitions to, 1 2, 1 2 3, 1, 1 2, 1 2 3, 1, 1 2, and then it starts with 1 2 3 and repeats throughout that pattern. These guys are rhythmic masters!
The demons name is endurance!
Thomas is such a beast! :D
It's also amazing what the guitarist are doing here. Fredrik Thordendal is basically the guitar equivalent to Thomas.
I recommend you do "Do Not Look Down" or "I Am Colossus" next from this album. Do Not Look Down is possibly their grooviest banger ever and I Am Colossus is a decently slow one that is ENORMOUSLY heavy, and some of their most badass lyrics I've ever heard.
Yeah, I guess he's saving the best for last, haha! :D
The main riff on this track is so fantastic. 1, 1-2, 1-2-3 repeating over and over.
Troy Wright is a drummer and he has a cover of this song on UA-cam. Like some drummers, he adjusts his foot technique above a certain bpm. He said this is a bpm right in between where his technique would change, which might be the same for Tomas.
Yes, exactly. Its easier to play this faster. Its that 170-200 bpm range thats a real bitch.
His work with Plini is top tier
Troy wright plays with Plini?
@@Metguy123 he did for a couple EPs and his first full length album i believe. Not anymore tho.
Fun fact: This is one of Mesh's only songs that's not pocketed in 4/4. It's either 3/4 or 6/8, so it has a waltzy feel.
Ritual is in 7
@@renatomiceli1778 doesnt feel like it
Also i believe its in 3/4
I’d call it 9/8 with the divisions 3+3+3
It's 3/4. Haake mentioned it when interviewed during the recordings. They noticed that one of the new songs is actually in waltz rhythm, all though it wasn't intended. Kinda funny. If I ever get married again, I will fucking waltz to this.
I would recommend checking out the song 'Pitch Black' from the Pitch Black EP, propably one of the most innovative and 'lowkey' heavy songs of Meshuggah.
Yes, Pitch Black and I Am Colossus are my recommendations
YEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH BOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIII! React to "Do Not Look Down" from the same album!
MAAAARRRROOOWWWW!!
YES, MARROW IS A MUST
I'm suprised you haven't checked out *born in dissonance* yet, I personally think its even groovier than "do not look down", and its certeanly more viewed as well
This song is so fucking "in your face" brutality even by their standard, this album is underrated af
This is actually my favorite album of theirs. It's sooooo brutal.
every song on this album bangs so hard that honestly it's hard to skip any tracks when i listen to it.
They played this live when they played Kentish Town in London. It's to intense for the crowd. Blood was spilled but it was the best gig ever
I don't believe this has ever been played live... If what you're saying is true then you're very lucky.
I'll believe it if I see actual footage
Meshuggah live is a must.
Pick your favorite and go. They have lots of high quality live stuff on YT.
I've been a fan for a while now but have never seen them live. Cannot wait 🤘
That's why ardent fans/listeners enjoy and profess this extraordinary band : it's their ability to attract you to any of their intricacies in songwriting; thus we have why repeated listenings are so important in understanding their gift to the human ears!!
6:53 yeah that's the groove man! set in right after that nasty fill lol
more like "The Drummer's Name Is Endurance"
Car Bomb - Sets or Secrets Within
Car Bomb is like Meshuggah on acid, that would be an epic reaction!
Yess! Their newest album is also super good
Audience - "What tempo is this song in?"
Car Bomb - "All of them!" 🤯
Meshuggah Sickening
The Controtionist - Flourish or Return to Earth!
And early grave
Flourish is damn good
ALL OF THESE!!!
The track I reckon you’d love from this album is *Do not look down* - ultimate groove to it and again a real neck-breaker
DO NOT LOOK DOWN
DO NOT LOOK DOWN
YOU HAVE TO REACT TO MARROW FROM KOLOSS NOWWW
The K-Pop dance group version, please
This is the Song That makes me Happy Every time I listen to it...
You definitely have to check out vola!
Since you’re enjoying Meshuggah so much, you should definitely do Black Tongue at some point! Just a few songs to consider by them: Second Death, Abuse Ritual, Parting Soliloquy (my personal favorite), Ultima Necat. Pretty much anything from their album Nadir. Their older stuff is okay, but it’s more traditional deathcore which I doubt would be your style. Nadir is very atmospheric and dark, while still being the heaviest album I’ve ever heard
Easily one of the most brutally relentless tracks of all time.
You headbanged to the "classic" rhythm that follows the snare and you also went along with the groove, the guitar melody.
So yeah you caught different rhythms just by yourself :D
Other suggestion for someday:
Strapping Young Lad - Aftermath
Drew!!! I have been watching all of your Meshuggah vids lately and I absolutely love em. But the Swedish part of me dies everytime you say "Thomas Heyk" His last name is pronounced "Hah-keh". Like as an irishman you would say "Half", the a is pronounced the same way. Thanks again for making these sad times a little better. Cheers from Sweden!
Clockworks. Haake drum cam play through. Incredible.
Please do marrow by meshuggah or death of me by gojira!!!
You should do In Death Is Death by Meshuggah. You will not be disappointed.
Thoroughly enjoy these videos, brother! It's great seeing someone get sucked into the void that is metal. Check out the band Zeal and Ardor as well. The songs Dont you Dare, Servants, Fire of Motion are some bangers.
Well this comment aged well
Letters from the colony - the final warning
Great to see some love for this band. Such an awesome group!
Lol, this is the track I use to practice double bass. Above this tempo its actually easier, as you switch to more ankle motion, and slower is easier obviously. But the tempo its at is arguably the most exhausting to play, it really destroys your calves and thighs at the same time. Never skip leg day.
Really wanna recommend a Car Bomb song. It's kinda Meshuggah on steroids in a way, but to be honest there's nothing quite like Car Bomb when it comes down to it. Simply one of the most mind-blowing bands out there. Recommendations:
Secrets Within
Black Blood (not the music video, that's a shorter version)
Mordial
Antipatterns
They work closely with Gojira as well!
Loving the reactions, you're simply the best reaction channel out there!
Another banger 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Sikth - The Trees are dead and dried up (Wait for something wild)
That's the band and album name.
Stand out tracks? Skies of Millenium Night, Pussyfoot, Scent of the Obscene...
Give it a try
When the footwork reminds you of a hovering helicopter or a machine gun!!
lml
PS. Please don't skip Swarm, you'll love the lyrics and the song itself will blow your mind!
The Hurt That Finds You First
Has insane drum as well
Meshuggah- Do Not Look Down
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!Brother this song is about the spiritual! Read the screw tape letters by C.S Lewis... this song is that!! Mad love from Oklahoma!!
Gojira - where dragons dwell
Car Bomb - Lights Out
One of my favorites. Its an extreme blue shuffle
Meshuggah!
Glad to see the train a movin'.
Pitch black, spasm, glory to be had...
Drew please can you do Icarus Lives by Periphery? Such a banger and I know you want to do a series on Periphery. The self titled album is the way to go 😎
Blues beat on top and double bass insanity on bottom. Genius 😂
Gotta check out their track War. It's both on their Rare Trax album and their Best Of album. Fucking brutal banger. Might be their most brutal
With Jens' gloriously silly giggle in the middle...
This is the best "shuffle" drum beat ever 😂
"Sane" or "Concatenation" from Chaosphere
woooot swarm is on the way
Meshuggah Rational Gaze or anything of the first 3 tracks off the nothing album they are the bands best work imo
Meshuggah monstrocity
Its a blues beat in 4/6 😂 you can definitely groove to this. Snare is on the 4.
Rational gaze
Haken - Crystallised or Celestial Elixir. If you want another prog metal epic to rival Dream Theater.
I've been suggesting Haken's "Carousel" for a while now. I think any Haken would suck him in.
Yay! 🤘🏻🤘🏻 I think you know what I’m about to say!? 😉 ...but Do Not Look Down.
Do not look down by Meshuggah
Best feet excercise ever
I actually kind of view the lyrical topic of this track to be about how we always use religion to keep ourselves tied down and use it to "watch over" ourselves.
You gotta get into some Archspire - Calamus Will Animate (like meshuggah they really don't have a bad song)
When ever you finish the Koloss album, you need to check out their song "Pitch Black"
Jeez, you are relentless. PRAISE MESHUGGAH! In case you're doing the whole album, I don't even need to demand MARROW again. ;)
Can't wait for this to get to I AM COLOSSUS, SWARM, and MARROW!
WE NEED MARROW
@@officialrhythmicthoughts One year later and he still hasn't done it! DEW IT, DREW! :D
YYEEEWWWSSSSSS
Yesss I love this one 👌🏻
Oh yes yes. This is a banger..
Try Opeth, A Fair Judgement 😜
Haken - The Architect
Meshuggah - Marrow
Tesseract - Sunrise
Dream Theater Metropolis pt1
Keep up with the great Meshuggah reactions. Check out some Type O Negative some day.
What’s the intro song on your videos?
You REALLY should react to Shed, BUT please find some good version or instrumental version by Frederick featuring pigtronix delay pedal or whatever it was. It's really groovy any nice.
I am colossus next
Please react to mouth licking what you’ve bled from chaosephere
Definitely do Swarm off of this album! And Do Not Look Down!
Can't let you forget.... put Sikth - Bland Street Bloom in the que.
Sectioned - Annihilated
Uneven Structure!!
Time for some out and out metal Drew
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD
- All hail the new flesh
- Detox
FEAR FACTORY
- Freedom of fire
- Fear Campaign
- Christploitation
- Oxidizer
Gotta do Aftermath for the ultimate headbanger!
@@justinfalzon1613 I’d be happy with that too
CATCH 33!!
Obsidian is the most accessible Meshuggah track I swear xD I promise
Rational Gaze. Not the music video though.
But it's great
@@Quaselfasel it cuts a large part of the song out.
Perpetual Black Second
MECHA NI CAL COM POUND EYE!!!!!!!
React to What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse by Black Dahlia Murder.
The drum work and guitar on that song are super exhausting and intense
Try a band called Delta Sleep! 21 letters or Lake Sprinke Sprankle!
its looking like your finna do the whole album! . i feel bad that it had to live up up to its superior predecessor Obzen but it still slays 🔥the lyrics are deep and just as meaningful as any of their albums too, Obzen included. I still love Koloss!
honestly Koloss is my favorite Meshuggah album and imo it's better than ObZen
@@officialrhythmicthoughts I'd probably agree with you on that. But the fact that Obzen has "Obzen," Bleed, dancers and pravus really makes it hard for Koloss to beat Obzen for how revolutionary those songs were for metal and for Meshuggahs sound overall.
RATIONAL GAZE
the worst part of the song is that the lyrics are true
Foreseeing the times we're living in
That hurt that will find you next)
Gojira - Wisdom Comes
You need to try anything from Bilateral by Leprous. Painful Detour, Acquired Taste - all of the album really... ....it's genius. From there you should work your way chronologically through their back-catalog and see how they've developed over time. A superb live band - one of the best.
Meshuggah "spasm"
Rational Gaze & Whole Catch 33 album 💀
Monstro City
I Am Colossus
Please do The Acacia Strain's, The Hills Have Eyes!!!!
FLOURISH BY THE CONTORTIONIST
I definitely suggest checking out Thrawsunblat.
Dead of Winter
She Who Names the Stars
Or Be’Lakor. Be’Lakor is one of the best death metal bands out there and nobody can change my mind
slowdown with your headbang hahaha
Noice
Imma keep putting it in: Gojira - Remembrance. You gotta go back to Gojira one of these days.
SWARM
Mayhem - Freezing moon please
