Is that a lyric from the track "Planet of the Apes", off the Deconstructed album? I was just listening to that again yesterday and it popped into me head when I saw that comment! Id like to see more Devin on here with Drew. I think "Genesis" would be an insane listen for him.

Two album suggestions: First, Chaosphere. Ultra heavy, ultra groovy in spots. New Millennium Cyanide Christ is the bubble gum pop single of the album haha. But seriously, when I first heard this album it was like nothing I had ever heard before (or since, really). And secondly, Nothing. I love that album because it felt like Meshuggah said, “Okay, we just blew your head off with Chaosphere, now we’re going to slow it down and deconstruct everything, and you’re still not going to comprehend what the fuck we’re doing.” And Stengah sets the tone out of the gate. Anyway, love the reactions. Cheers man.

Well Link was 2005? I feel like Meshuggah probably pulled some Gojira into their later albums. Gojira are incredibly influential on metal

It's possible that Gojira also influenced some Meshuggah sections later on (maybe on Behind The Sun) but chugging riffs like the ending of Remembrance from The Link album clearly point back to Meshuggah's Destroy Erase Improve or even earlier tracks like Choirs Of Devestation from 1991. Especially the later sounds basically like the riff in Gojira's In The Forest. However, to put it into perspective Gojira's main influences are early Death Metal and I don't think they took a lot of ideas from Meshuggah overall...but there are still a few obvious ones.

I feel like Meshuggah's influences haven't changed since their early days (Metallica, jazz, etc). It's just that since chaosphere, they started slowly getting deeper and deeper into what they truly wanted to become (polymetric grooves at ridiculously low frequencies)

Better in context of the whole album of course, but his face would probably melt if he heard Dehumanization 😄 The stretch of Shed till Sum would be great introduction of Catch Thirythree!

Actually, I think Gojira sounds like a cross between Morbid Angel and SYL.

No need to do any other bands. Just keep reacting to every single Meshuggah song. .....and then do the entire album of Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know my Name.

Seems funny people getting their knickers in a twist over who did it first between Meshuggah and Gojira. There are obviously moments where there are similarities, but other than a few occasional moments that's pretty much it in my opinion. Gojira are heavily influenced by 90s death metal bands, mostly Morbid Angel. So when I hear Gojira I don't hear any Meshuggah, only the death metal influence. At least in their older stuff. Newer Gojira doesn't really sound like the band that I used to love, but that's my loss

Drew you may get mixed replies but if you review any songs off the nothing album can you please do it off the original album (marked by the orange cover usually) the remastered version has slightly different tempos the vocals In my opinion are not as full of life and the the drums are programmed not recorded. The drums are ethe heart of Meshuggah and the colour in a song such as straws pulled.at random are just not as present in the remastered version. Cheers lad

    • @alexanderschildknecht2090

I think he should just listen to both versions of Straws Pulled At Random (which he has done) and decide for himself which version he prefers for future reactions. I personally like the remaster more but the Meshuggah fans are very split on that matter as you said

@@alexanderschildknecht2090 yeah I totally agree I feel people having heard the remaster first will prefer that, I certainly prefer the original because that's the version I heard first. You can't unheard your impression once you do. they both have pros and cons, I resonate with the cleaner feel the remaster gives. But I can't forgive how the drums seem nerfed in the remaster

    • @alexanderschildknecht2090

@@ODIus1549 I can see that...for me there are certain tracks I prefer on the original mix even if the remaster is my favourite version overall. I always listen to the old Stengah because of those little ambient sounds you can hear at 0.49 into the track. Never understood why this was left out later, adds so much to the atmosphere.

There’s. It really anything Djent at all about Gojira. The only thing that binds either of them are common thrash and death metal influences. I haven’t ever really heard any similarities other than that really basic common thread.

to me, Combustion was always the one track that didn't feel a perfect fit for the album. it's a great track, sure, but if you take it away and start the album with "Electric Red", "Obzen" rather feels like a concept album. Theres a rather psychedelic side to this album only Combustion doesn't really have.

To me, you are trying too hard or even very much want to feel the rythm. One can tell when you start swaying (is that a word?) your head. Don’t listen to certain things in the music, feel the atmosphere, get the groove and enjoy. Then your body will follow the flow. Altough i’ve been listening to this band since pre Future Breed Machine (-95). Meshuggah are pioneers to chugga chugga metal music!
