Drop a like if you enjoyed the video and want to see more of the DJENT Gods on this channel🔥
Love! meshuggah they are one of the best Live bands ive ever seen. Im not even a colossal fan.
I do want to see you djent on! The Djent gods are clearly smiling upon you channel!
If I might add one MORE Meshuggah recommendation to the pile, maybe do 'Marrow' from the 'Koloss' record, because it's SUCH an insane groove monster. Like, JESUS. This band has a ton of great songs, but 'Marrow' has to be one of their absolute best cuts. But hey, I also already recommended 'Monstrocity' in this thread and I realize I'm gettin greedy, haha.
Stifled, Nostrum, Violent sleep of reason, born in dissonance are amazing!! Do check them out!!
Dude, if you want something not a lot of people do, as well As crazy as Meshuggah, and at some points even beyond, then look no further than Car Bomb. The guys most definitely are inspired by the legends, but their sound is The Next Level Meshuggah, by combining that influence with others, like lately incorporating shoegaze/dreampop vibes.
The first single from their latest album has a killer video too, which looks Exactly like it should for a song like that:
ua-cam.com/video/DcqTepxV_Lo/v-deo.html
However, if you want a deep cut, I suggest you check out the first track of the record:
ua-cam.com/video/JLSovCt2uO8/v-deo.html
Those two tracks are some of their more easy-going stuff, btw, and if you want something .... extra... there you go:
ua-cam.com/video/EA5eIAfutYU/v-deo.html
The best part: If you like these tracks, not only they have an album full of them, but 4!
Also, more Karnivool, like ''Goliath'', or the trilogy "The Medicine Wears Of", "Caudal Lure" and "Illumine".
nice, good to see you've gained an appreciation for the shugg. they are NOT an easy band to get into, but when you GET it? they are the best of the best
I would say out of all modern genres of music, metal is probably the one that requires the most gradual introduction. It's very much an acquired taste.
I remember when I thought pantera and slayer were screaming...
For a lot of people, probably. I was drawn to it from a young age.
@@NooDLES411911 in many ways i still think slayer is rougher (at least to my ears) and more abrasive than Meshuggah (with the exception, perhaps, of some Chaosphere bits)
Like spicy food or rollercoasters, it's a little scary at first but the thrill is unmatched!
Metal is the greatest thing to bless the earth
The end of this song is one of the most beautiful musical compositions ever. EVER. The fact that it’s buried in the Meshuggah catalogue, at the end of an under-appreciated song and that not very many people rave about it like I do, blows my mind.
SAME! It's been years now, it always amazes me how Bleed is their most popular song and not this. Probably because it just never got a video aired, but still...
Mine too.
That pillow grab is all of us at that time in the song
hard time , really hard time , but the song fix it all
That outro is the most uplifting sound I’ve ever heard Meshuggah play. I wish they experimented with that more because they do it so beautifully.
I've seen it said that with the outro of SPAR, Meshuggah invented a genre of metal and immediately discarded it for lesser bands
Perpetual black second is my favorite from the album
Such a great song 🤘🏻
There's a bootleg video from a show of theirs in 2003 and god damn... perpetual was insane on that recording.
Rational Gaze baby lol Perpetual black second is next for me though
Kinda sounds like the story of Jonah and the whale.
"What solace lies in the arms of fate
-The ill embrace of uncertainty
When did I leave this in other hands"
Basically, Jonah was told by God that his fate was to go spread the Word. He didn't want to except his destiny and tried to flee on ship. Destiny caught up to Jonah when God summoned a storm to stop him from leaving. The other sailors drew straws a random to see who had upset God. Jonah got the short straw. He jumped in the ocean and was swallowed by a whale, only to be spit up on shore to go follow his destiny. (Gross oversimplification on many levels of course.)
-To be pulled down at chance (this reminds me of the whale)
"Ripped away by destiny-claws
Am I another of fate's possessions
Dwelling the lie of freedom
Just another straw pulled at random"
The story of Jonah talks about destiny and fate, Jonah's, the sailors, the randomness (or lack of) of the straws. The lyrics seem to suggest a similar theme of, destiny, chance, fate, the lie of freedom, the straws. Not sure if this has been discussed in regards to this song, or if I'm off by miles, but that is my interpretation.
The way meshuggah created tension throughout the intro then cradles you with resolve at the end with the simplicity of the solo that just touches your soul is just godlike in the world of music
The most un metal comment ever
When you were talking about gradually going into heavier and heavier music, it reminded of what I once heard about metal:
There's nothing like 'too heavy' music. There's only music you haven't got used to listen to yet.
This was the only song they played something in a major scale. I recommend Our Rage Won't Die.
To be fair Contradictions Collapse and Destroy Erase Improve are full of major licks and cleans.
The groove to that song is insanity
Yep...the outro of this one feels more like "summer freedom" than Meshuggah...those 2 minutes are sooooo out of character with literally everything they did after 1995...and even before that, the more "colourful" stuff was still otherworldly, not "positive freedom vibes" like this...is that Ab chord the only straight-up major chord in their discography?
Always felt like dorian to me.
@@SnerMerNer Exactly. Dorian is bright for Meshuggah standards for only having 2 flattened notes
We all need more Meshuggah: “Break those bone who sinews gave it motion”. Hits like a truck🤘🤘🤘
MESHUGGAHHH!!! please please please react to new millennium cyanide christ, its got the sickest breakdown of all time!
Live in Montreal!
I guess you mean that absolute brilliant fucking perfect ending? My most favorite breakdown ever!
YESTESYESYESYESYESYES
Or Corridor Of Chameleons
Never heard this meshuggah tune, love to discover new ones! Was surprised by that outro
My favourite song from my favourite band! Thanks so much for the reaction
YESSS HERR FAUST IS SO GOOD
There's an awesome drumvid of Stengah out there you should check out. Such a funky, stanky groove of Meshuggah. Have fun and a happy new year!
This has to be one of my favourite songs by them. As you say the sound is MASSIVE 🤟🏻♥️
I was fortunate enough to see Meshuggah and Tool back in 2002, right after Nothing was released. It was a life changing experience. Highly recommend catching them live if you can. Also, “Future Breed Machine” is one of their best, most dynamic songs. I think you’d dig it, man.
Meshuggah and Tool are my two favourite bands. You need to do meshuggah with dancers to a discordant system and by the ton.
8:37 when you finally catch the rythm
dude, yes!!! Great song bro! I don't know why, but the ending of this takes me on such an emotional journey. Makes me tear up every time
Awesome to see you get into Meshuggah. I'm glad you made the point about warming up to them. There's a weird beauty to them that you can't really find anywhere else, but it can be hard to discover that. As someone whose definition of "heaviness" is slower, rather than thrash or grindcore, I recommend trying out either Electric Wizard: Scorpio Curse, or Sleep: Sonic Titan. Take care
Nice chilled out outro there. So calm by Meshuggah standards
This one is one of my favorites - Meshuggah don't "let it breathe" enough, like they do in this one - some of their grooves are so magnificent but short-lived, when they draw it out into a progression like this... that when I'm feelin' the 'suggah
YES!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻 Do Not Look Down is another amazing song by these guys, well...all songs are amazing, hear them all! Future Breed Machine is absolute must hear, that was my introduction to Meshuggah. After hearing the song I was like what!?!?! And the rest is history...🤘🏻🤘🏻
My First Meshugah album was Nothing, Rational Gaze the first song and the reason why I picked up the album. Never heard of them before. They are an experience to listen to. So happy I discovered them and now enjoying watching you reacting to them and enjoying. Much love bro and keep up the hard work you do for us. Peace.
❤️ your lucky day bro, Rational gaze reaction coming tonight!
YOU DID IT MAN!!!! Awesome, love it!!!! Thanks for getting out of the comfort zone of Meshuggah reactions, this is a masterpiece!!! ♥
Awesome reaction Drew!! Your ears have come a long way haha, great to see how much you appreciate these amazing but obscure artists and genres. I'd recommend any of the following Meshuggah tracks: Future Breed Machine, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Glints Collide, Perpetual Black Second, Pravus, Electric Red, Do Not Look Down, Nonstrum
Great reaction man! Love that you try and do some of their deeper cuts. Meshuggah are easily one of my favorite bands and I've watched all of your reactions now so here are my recommendations for you: Future Breed Machine, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Behind The Sun, or Our Rage Won't Die! Cheers and keep up the good work :)
When you say tank you for supportin the channel, I say you’re fookin welcome🙏
🤣🤣🤣🙌🏻❤️
Haha I fuckin love it, man!! I knew you'd get here one day. It's been awesome watching your journey and seeing you expand your musical horizon. Check out Behind the Sun, Electric Red, Future Breed Machine and Humiliative. There's always so much going on when it comes to Meshuggah so sticking to the studio version is highly recommended. It's your channel though so do whatever the fuck you want lmao 🤘🏼
A band that I really enjoy that is very proggy is Belarus band Irreversible Mechanism, song is Footprints in the sand. One of my favs
Your comment about slowly getting into this heavier grade of metal is so true. I struggled with this style but it's gradually grown on me, and I'm now at the point where I crave the awkwardness of it. The weird timings, chord sequences that don't follow predictable logic, and the sheer obtuseness; by comparison, other metal isn't a challenging enough listen.
As for this song....the sheer beauty of the final couple of minutes almost brings me to tears.
The big daddies of djent.
Thanks for this, Straws is my favorite Meshuggah but i never really paid to much attention to the lyrics, it's a whole new perspective and experience haha.
Metal welcomes you! :)
Born in Dissonance, Marrow, I AM COLOSSUS
Dancers to a Discordant System (Albun version) - Electric red - Obzen - Pineal Gland Optics - Ivory Tower - I am Collosus - Marrow - ALL CATCH 33
meshuggah - dancers to a discordant system. also obzen (title track) both studio versions!
that last bend in the outro pulls at my soul
bro you would love Plini, absolutely wild guitarist and composer
Yes! Papalillo, or whatever its called is just wonderful in every way.
Pravus (Alive DVD) next
Yes, this one blew my head off
The end of the song is pure beauty! One of my all-time favorite riffs! So amazing! :)
the note bending in this song is so pleasurable, I can see it in your face lol
When I listen to Meshuggah my eyebrows raise and they keep going up and up for the whole track
When he grabs the pillow - Yes, it's Metal Meditation time. A hidden talent of Meshuggah is their ability to make you reflect on yourself and the world.
Meshuggah - New Millennium Cyanide Christ
Karnivool - Deadman 🤘
Both! So much!
Matt garstka(animals as leaders) - any drum solo or play through. You wont regret it.
I imagine this inspired a lot of the melodic side of what Misery Signals tried to accomplish on "Of Malice & The Magnum Heart"
I like my metal like how I like my coffee, with some shuggah
yo drew, sick reaction! yes, i am one of those cult meshuggah fans, and delving into why meshuggah sounds so huge could be a 6 hour conversation, but essentially; most bands will use four guitar tracks for a section of song, panned 100% left, 100% right, 50% right and 50% left respectively. that's what gives that stereo sound that makes it sound bigger. meshuggah used over 100 guitar tracks on every song for the nothing album. hopefully that explains something!
oh by the way, spasm (same album) is a masterpiece, maybe check that one out!
My favorite Meshuggah song!
Your talking about your experience getting into metal was super interesting. I think I found your channel right when you started listening to metal and prog, and I remember how cool it was for me (as a proghead) watching you get sucked into prog.
Having a gradual introduction into metal is something I should consider more when showing friends music. I found extreme metal on my own when I was in high school...it's been so damn long that I don't even think about that aspect anymore.
If you want to react to what I think is one of the most in-your-face extreme metal songs to the point it's almost comical, check out "Slaves Shall Serve" by Behemoth, a blackened death metal song. It's not a bad song, but it tries so hard to be extreme and brutal, it ends up being funny as well.
I was so excited to see ur reaction to the instrumental break, like I get chills at the part and that I can sense exactly what u feel through this track
Sublevels from Meshuggah was not done yet and it has one of the best solos ever
Some acid was dropped at the end of that solo 😁😎✌,
Others were peeking.
One of the most honest reaction I've seen, the need for a soft pillow is totally ok. The last third of that song is a transport to where ever your mind wants.
Man, I’ve loved watching the channel grow. And watching you grow as well. Seeing you go from being taken aback by metal to being decently educated. I appreciate you man. How about some After the Burial reactions. Honestly any song. Keep it up.
Love, my man.
You need to see em live if you get the chance dude. Trust me. I'm from the same town as them "Umeå/Sweden" and I've seen em live idk how many times at this point and It's always a fucking treat. As Bill Burr puts it "You're doing yourself a disservice as a human being if you never see them live". :)
Having the patience and groove towards the end is nothing short of elite
dude you are the first who actually extended the prog rock explanation to the general public by fucking loving Nothing era Meshuggah. Kudos my man. Respect.
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Loved it when you grabbed the pillow at the song break..
Great reaction to one of my fave Meshuggah songs, thanks dude
Ima gonna like this now and watch it later! I know it will be GREAT🤘 Meshuggah = The Masters Of The Universe. Now let’s push for the last 500 subs and knock you over 100k, you do deserve it!🙏🏻
When you got your pillow out, I felt that. What a song
Yaayyy! meshuggah reaction!!
Meshuggah cadaverous mastication
Just wanna recommend a lil bit more Animals as Leaders, bud. "Inamorata" is the sort of trail blazer that will journey you to the center of your Earth via a light speed orbit around the upmost skylines as all sorts of sonic war and emotionally exhilarating sounds are flung, tapped, riffed and streamed to and through you. By the time the fecking ting is finished, it feels like you can run and leap off the Giants Causeway and land safely afoot in Scotland. Or- "Wave of Babies" is a brilliant bouncy djenty groover. Theres a sweeeet video of Tosin playin, tappin, slappin, strummin the song to a backing track, an' notta bother on him. Really cool to watch and hear.
Car Bomb - From The Dust Of This Planet/Secrets Within. A crazy 1-2 combo. Meta is a brain melting album for fans of Meshuggah & Dillinger Escape Plan.
The lads craving a little bit more ;) noiiice
Electric red would be nice
Dancers to a Discordant System
YOOO thanks a ton for bringing us content like this. Mad appreciation man. (unrelated but imma recommend ya checkout the band pelican (happy doom) and inclination( straightedge hardcore). mad appreciation again man
Love
Your reaction at 7:13 sums it up perfectly
I think you should check out another swedish band called Vildhjarta that are very much inspired by Meshuggah but have a unique sound - Dagger (offical video) is a great song.
When he grabs the cushion I lost my shit laughing. Deffinatly meme material
Have you Drew ever seen Meshuggah live? They are f"nn crushing live. Totally surreal.
The reaction you had the first time listening to it is identical to the reaction I have after having heard it hundreds of times
Man had to hold onto his pillow it's that heavy. I just moshed to this song live in Dallas, TX 🤘 FJB
Meshuggah mood: Headbutt a killer whale to simultaneous death. Dancers to a Discordant System next, please.
I’ve seen them live once. And it was the best day of my life. Like you said, they’re massive. Fucking massive.
Drew whenever you have the chance check out Hacride, they're a lesser known but truly amazing band from France. They incorporate elements from bands like Meshuggah and Gojira but do it with their own unique style. I believe they'll blow your mind. Anything from their Lazarus album is perfect but I suggest "To walk among them" or if you find that a bit long "Act of God" and "Lazarus" are equally masterpieces. Keep it up;)
You definitely need to react to Dancers to a Discordant System! Meshuggah's best track in my opinion
Sorry just had a lil orgasm thinking about the opening riff in that song.
I’m glad you posted this song cuz this was gonna be my comment.. check out the Live one from their DVD.
@@reubenhamer2932 but wut about the orgasms from that outro?
I really like that you do less popular songs!!! I have recommended a song forever to every reaction channel and no one has don it yet, there are only 2 reactions on yt with less then 1000 views... The song is Inward moment with gojira. It is from there second album, The link, and many gojira fans rate this on as on of the "worst" album. But in my eyes it is one of the best!!! It is raw, haevy, fast, and it sounds like they have fun playing :D If you do the song I strongly recommend "the link alive" live version, you can see how fun they have playing in that video :P
more symphony x !
Thank you for letting the unique ending to this song play uninterrupted. It needs not comment.
At 6:20 when you’re talking about how people get into metal and ultimately into this song, it couldn’t have been better said. I’m always craving for more now
Uneven Structure - Frost/Hail. Not enough people request this band but they are amazing. Upvote this if you agree so can he experience one of the best bands in metal right now. Also its one of the best music videos ever made.
This song is a sonic rollercoaster. The bends on the guitars....omg
Well said on how one wades into deeper and heavier metal sir. I think you're finally ready. "Parting Soliloquy" by Black Tongue.
Welcome to the big leagues! Trust me on this one Meshuggah - Swarm. I don't think you've listened to something similar so far, I'm 100% sure you're gonna love it based on your reaction to this song and how much into Meshuggah you're getting.
Keep up the good work!
lml
Rivers of Nihil The Silent Life 🔥
You said that you'll do your best reacting to less known tracks, so here's some:
Thornhill - Coven
Loathe - I Let It In and It Took Everything
NAÏVE - Transoceanic
Humanity's Last Breath - Tide
Vildhjarta - The Lone Deranger
Night Verses | Phoenix IV: Levitation
Nostrum boy! Nostrum! One of the most unique tracks in metal, and incredibly impressive.
Do Haake's drum playthrough while you're at it!
I am a huge Meshuggah fan🤘🏻
You should check out Carbomb - Dissect yourself
Fun fact, there is a track from meshuggah that sound too much like Doom, it's call Nebulous from the 2002 album "Nothing" I really love the fact that Mick Gordon took so much inspiration from Meshuggah and made it mainstrem in the gaming world and also very unic!
Dead Black (Heart of Ice) by Soul Remnants.....these guys are CRIMINALLY underrated and this song is a fuckin MASTERPIECE....for the love of fuck Drew please give this a react!!!!
Organic Shadows, ObZen, Dancers To A Discordant System!
About time you reacted to their ballad. Taylor Swift's guitar work on this is astounding! ;-)
did not expect that melodic ending
It sounds so full and big because meshuggah's mixes are literally clipped all the way to 0db... there is not a single ounce of dynamics... it is just a full fucking unwavering assault on the ears.
Beautiful.
Put a meshuggah song in your DAW and the waveform is just a blacked out brick.
Does anyone know if theyre the first band to use the clip-to-zero strategy? They did it really early.
Indukti - And who's the god now?
Check out the lyrics, and it's kinda like Slipknot/Tool/SystemofaDown/Sepultura. It's PHENOMENAL
