Hi Boss! Your friends from Locke, NY here, and oh how we’ve missed you. Life has been so hectic and we lost track of watching your videos. They bring us so much joy and education. We have now made it a daily routine to watch one video a night of yours. Thank you for educating, inspiring, and sharing your wisdom (and art) with us! Much love and gratitude, Karynn and Karl Altmann

Hello JC- You have such useful, common sense, building advice and instruction. In case noone has noticed, the price of just about everything has gone " through the ROOF!". Feels like we are going back in time in a good way.
I say that because we 1970s homesteaders had energy, motivation and NO MONEY. And here we are again!
You are revisiting the concept of thinking and working smart. It has served us well to this day. Life on our farm is going along in good fashion. Six calves and counting... Your new property project is looking mighty fine!
Happy spring to you and Lori ! ~ Diane

Good free advice. You should be the spokesperson for bubble foil.
Only northerners know about froze line. Southerners just need concrete a 8-10" pad and start building on top. Best to consult a local Geotechnical engineer to insure the footings are proper. Sure don't want uneven settling after the building is up. Next is the building design and orientation for best use of natural lighting ventilation. Best built it right n no short cuts, unless you know what you are doing.

I totally understand what you're talking about with the frost. At different points on our property the frost acts differently, depending on how thick the topsoil is from the top to the bedrock. How humid the ground was before the freeze, where springs are. Great video, thanks for the info... also dealing with the department of making you sad and permits..

JC you need to write a book about your methods! You sold me on the bubble foil a long time ago. I think most UA-camrs say there is no way it could work OR they got their info from you and endorse it. Your book would be the thinnest “How To” book because it would be filled with common sense and no fluff. With all of your years of experience building cabins, I’m going with what you say every time. Even when I get the “raised eyebrow” look when I tell people what I am going to do, it just doesn’t matter to me! You have always given great advise based on actual first hand knowledge. Good enough for me! Thank you! 😁

Great building tips. I utilized your septic idea for my shower in the cabin. I ended up going below the frostline but I also put 4 feet of sewer stone underneath the drain tube so hopefully it will perform well. I even implemented the black painted carboy method for my shower water and it works slick! Got to get up this weekend to resume work on the cabin and spend my first night in it. Coming along nicely now that the snow is gone.

You would find curious the way they have built houses here in Chile in an earth quake zone at that. Those pesky Germans settled this area of Chile and they built their Post and Beam Houses sitting on top of boulders! Really. They call it a living house. It moves with the rocking and rolling of the soil.
So in a country that has had the highest measured earth quake you still have houses standing after they were build over 200 years ago.
We do not have the frost problems you have at all since our winters are mild.
We do have a lot of rain............ and I MEAN RAIN. 6 to 8 feet of rain a year. So that is a consideration as well.
Thanks for the good education you have given us in this video. I had to re learn building here. There are some things that they just do not know how to do and of course we modify their way of doing it and improve on an old technology. Jim
