Being a first generation Hmong American who has born in Thailand and came to the states in 1989, this series means so much to me. Love your content Sonny.
This guest is incredibly moving when he speaks about the ways his family is tied to the history of Laos. And he is incredibly charming. I hope he has a lot of happiness in his life! Thanks for giving him this chance to share his family's story.
As a Lao American I vouch the authenticity of this episode! Great job! My family has the same story. ❤ Thank you for showing the beauty of our culture. 🙏🏽
@@Asian87Some of you Lao are very hateful people maybe thats why people don't really showcase you guys because you guys have a history of treating other ethnic minorities in Laos really bad. I'm not saying all Lao people are like that because I know a lot of really good and down to earth Lao people more good than bad, but some of y'all are hateful towards Hmong and Mien people for no reason at all. at the end of the day our parents are all from the same country and our fathers, uncles and grandfathers all fought against communism together that's why we're here in America. Belittling each other and making snarky comments won't get us anywhere only unity will because to westerners were all just black haired Asians...
Yia is such an awesome guest, the chemistry him and sonny have is great and just made the episode even better. This is hands down one of the best channels on yt!
I'm proud of Sonny's father as well. Forcing American men to fight that didn't believe in the war was extremely "un-American". I'm glad he found a way out of it.
Ever since you visited the Hmong Town market in Wisconsin that one episode and mentioned how you'd been there a bunch and knew the people, I wondered if you were ever going to take one of them along with you and do a video on their original roots. You didn't just do one video, you did a whole series, and you did it with Yia. This has been a wonderful series to watch, both for that connection with Yia, and to see the Hmong people still in Laos, and their culture. Thank you, Sonny and the BEFRS team.
@@AsianAmericanGuy If I got the state wrong, my apologies; I thought it was Wisconsin because I remembered him talking about how "normally you go there for cheese, but tucked away, there's... this place" or something to that effect. This whole series with the Hmong people escaping their own country and becoming a refugee in Thailand, I can relate. My parents were going through the same situation in Cambodia when they escaping the Khmer Rouge and trying to survive. My parent's also met in a refugee camp and had 3 kids. We were fortunate to be sponsored and come to America and start fresh. This did hit me hard when I went back to Cambodia to meet my relatives and see how they're doing and how well they are doing. It's something that can leave someone speechless, but love and respect your own culture and parents even more. Proud to say who you are and where you're coming from! Great job Sonny for having this kind of series for the world audience. A peace!
Yia Vang is such a sweetheart. Hearing his families story really touched my heart. I'm so glad he got to go on this adventure with Sonny and experience the things his ancestors experienced.💕
Your channel has came a very long way since you started and you deserve it. The respect that you and mark weins give to all the different cultures is amazing. Waiting on the next one
