"Fall Of Civilizations" is truly one of the greatest channels on UA-cam. Superior productions of the most interesting of subjects. I wish these were the videos they showed us in school. These videos always humble me as they are reminders of just how fragile our current civilization is. The world we know today is just a couple hundred years old. The Egyptian civilization lasted 3000 years!!!🤯
I was just thinking about how I got more out of 4 hours of UA-cam than I did through the same amount of the subject being discussed in World History class in 10th grade. I think it's because in school, they're more concerned with the names, the time periods, the dates. The things that can be be tested in multiple choice. Whereas with this narrative, those things are included, but they are only part of the larger story of the rise and fall of the dynasties themselves. The whos and whats support the WHYs and the HOWS and those are the things that will help us remember.
Yes indeed! I have watched most of the productions and they are truly informative and fascinating. I've learned more about the history of the ancient world from them than I ever learned in school. Hey, I too enjoy history because it helps me _"understand human nature and the flow of the world."_ And, if you enjoy history books too, I highly, HIGHLY recommend: *Making Sense of World History* - _Rick Szostak_ (Google it) It's the best piece of media I've found for _exactly_ this kind of thing. Fortunately, it's Open Access (i.e. free to the public) since this project was funded by the European Union. It covers the entirety of human history, in a surprising amount of detail for a single book, with the goal of helping you understand the flow of human civilization from the beginning of humanity to the present -- not just our current scientific understading of the "what happened" but also of "why it happened that way." It also shows the commonalities between multiple societies (tribes, civilizations, etc.) throughout history, hence increasing your understanding human nature as well.
Please NEVER, EVER, EVER, doubt my friend, how truly excited we all become whenever that "Fallen Civilizations" notification pops up on UA-cam. BEST DAY EVER! This was yet another incredibly well done documentary of your creation. Trust me when I say, "You made our day!" And now a book?!? WAAAT?
Sometimes when a million anxieties are winning at 3am, and sleep seems hopeless, I put this channel on and just listen with my eyes closed and I swear I get back to sleep quick. I think it's a mix of the relaxing voice and that the history makes me feel small and insignificant... What's to worry about?
Pre-Islamic history of the Middle East is so under-rated. It's among the most interesting historical areas in the world. We need more content like this.
@andrewjohnson8232 The middle east is not only Arabia, but also Egypt as well as the Levant and parts of Anatolia. Remember Egypt's DNA roots share more in common with people's from those areas than say the peoples of Sub-Saharan Africa or even the Sudanese.
Its a beautiful moment when I wake from my sleep to find this video playing automatically, and I roll over to find Rameses facing the Hittites in a desperate struggle. Within moments after waking, utterly without context, I find myself entranced. Your work is second to none.
Well, I wish it were done in two 3-hours parts. Egypt’s history is so grandiose that several important passages were missing in this episode. The series of Amenemhats and Senwosrets in the Middle Kingdom; the building of the empire by the Tuthmosises and Amenhoteps in the New Kingdom; Psamtiks and Nechoes confronting Babylon during the Saite Kingdom; the successful rebellion against the Persian occupation. (OK, Ptolemaic and Roman Egypt could stay out of it.)
@rafael. Are others only now getting video? Tho't it was only I. The VOICE itself is mesmerizing and sustains keen attention; but I eventually think I might just pop if I don't get to see the EPIC VISUALS!
Everytime I see a video on the fall of civilization, I wonder there is no way that Paul Cooper can top this and yet with each new video you continue to suprise me. As an admirer of ancient Egypt this may be one of the best ever. Can't thank you enough.

As a history major i personally always prefer history from which a solid written and even photographic record exists. The further back you go the fewer non archeological details are solid. But your channel sp perfectly weaves narration based on all available sources it makes the ancient stuff approachable. Superb. I also live relistening as asmr sleep stuff. Its a great story and well read.
Dear Paul Cooper, I love this episode, i watched it like 3 times now and somehow i feel i want more I think Ancient Egypt deserves a second episode! a few of my sugestions for your research Papyrus and Writing administration and trade, Mathematics and Geometry in ancient egypt, Medicine, early forms of surgery, dentistry , the irrigation systems that controlled the waters of the Nile, and how they were able to sustain a high population density in their cities and how that influenced their societies, Egypt's centralized bureaucracy record-keeping, Their legal System with courts and legal proceedings, you can talk about Ancient Egyptian literature such as "The Tale of Sinuhe" and "Instruction of Ptahhotep.", also on how they created the 365-day calendar, and more
That piano tune 7:43 just gives me goose bumps, making you think of time that has passed the memories the experience of the people living at that time.
Dear Paul Cooper - that documentary is absolutely the best I have ever seen. Thank you so much. The education value for mankind of your work cannot be overstated. Clearly without equal, this podcast -offers to those who, like myself, were often apathetic to tales of ancient empires, rendered thus by generally less-than-inspiring lessons of early school days. And by virtue of his poetic, insightful and extraordinarily relatable accounts of human history, Mr.Cooper has managed to carry me back across the great gulf of millennia past, igniting in me a keen and increasingly passionate interest in these timeless tales. What an achievement!

The story of Egypt's decline is particularly scary because it unfolded over millennia as the Egyptian civilisation gradually moved toward termination. No one could stop it. They thought they were the greatest until they were nothing.

Although the wait was/is difficult, I *definitely* prefer to wait for it to be done right with care. As a former software engineer I understand the economics of TTM ("Time To Market") and cash flow etc. But I believe that over the long term any immediate/temporary losses from a slow release in order to perfect the quality will be more than compensated in the long term with positive word-of-mouth and grass-roots channel support. Plus (and imho most importantly) you are doing a great service to humanity at large by sharing the most accurate representation possible of our history and shared identity/place in the universe. All this told in such a compelling and exciting narrative...which results in even more sharing and understanding, culminating in the most wonderful human capacity: empathy. ...All of this juxtaposed over the bleakest, unfair, and nihistic setting/backdrop imaginable. I want to add that these series of podcasts has helped me understand human nature and the flow of the world more than I possibly could. Guys, do not stop, you are rock stars. Best wishes, Yuri

Hey, I too enjoy history because it helps me _"understand human nature and the flow of the world."_ And, if you enjoy history books too, I highly, HIGHLY recommend:
*Making Sense of World History* - _Rick Szostak_
(Google it)
It's the best piece of media I've found for _exactly_ this kind of thing.
Fortunately, it's Open Access (i.e. free to the public) since this project was funded by the European Union.
It covers the entirety of human history, in a surprising amount of detail for a single book, with the goal of helping you understand the flow of human civilization from the beginning of humanity to the present -- not just our current scientific understading of the "what happened" but also of "why it happened that way."
It also shows the commonalities between multiple societies (tribes, civilizations, etc.) throughout history, hence increasing your understanding human nature as well.
WAAAT?

True - but this is Nile Valley. African history.

a few of my sugestions for your research
Papyrus and Writing administration and trade, Mathematics and Geometry in ancient egypt, Medicine, early forms of surgery, dentistry , the irrigation systems that controlled the waters of the Nile, and how they were able to sustain a high population density in their cities and how that influenced their societies, Egypt's centralized bureaucracy record-keeping, Their legal System with courts and legal proceedings, you can talk about Ancient Egyptian literature such as "The Tale of Sinuhe" and "Instruction of Ptahhotep.", also on how they created the 365-day calendar, and more
