    I agree with your view on Cataclysm's end. I thought it was completely anticlimactic. The Aspects losing their power and the age of mortals beginning? Wasn't it mortals who did all the heavy lifting throughout Vanilla, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm? I think the age of mortals began long ago.

      she was referring to the evil side after we defeated deathwing the world is in the mortals' hands and its up to us what to do, and like nobbel said we just fighting and fighting and invade pandaria and create all the mess

    As for the problems at the end of Cata...could it be possible that the whole point of the Aspects and Deathwing's fall were to ensure that the Hour of Twilight occurred in a way where it COULD be stopped? Maybe the Hour of Twilight was somehow fated to occur whether the Aspects existed or not, but if they hadn't been empowered, it would have come about in such a way that it was far more difficult to overcome.
    We know that Nozdormu himself is also vulnerable to Old God corruption - Murozond proves that. Maybe the Dragon Aspects existed as "pressure valves" - the Old Gods concentrated on corrupting them, and when one turned, the others could combine their abilities to excise the infection.

      +Technodreamer I like this theory. There are occasionally little mistakes made by the writers that are initially inexplicable but often, people can construct plausible theories to accommodate them within the lore.I speculated on a theory of my own which stated that the prophecy of the Hour of Twilight was intended to occur in a different way. The Dragon Aspects are not all-knowing and it's entirely plausible that they believed this was how the Hour of Twilight was supposed to occur. The Titans themselves may not have known that Neltharion would lose his sanity to the Old Gods and become their minion to carry out the Hour of Twilight. This could also mean that the TRUE Hour of Twilight is still to come and the Aspects may realise that what they experienced was a beta-test of sorts, an experiment that was used to help the Old Gods figure out how the real event would play out. It's just a theory but I like that most of the probable plot-holes that Blizzard has constructed can be explained away, for the most part.

    I've been watching warcraft lore videos all across youtube from different channels and yours was by-far the most directly informative of them all! I can't believe how simply you broke down the story of the gods, titans, and their intentions all in [so far] these two videos! (watching pt3 after this comment ^_^) Also, great speculation and theory!
    You seriously deserve commendation and I wish your videos to be the staple of lore for anyone curious or missing pieces behind Warcraft! Unbelievable.

    Map with races can be found in the description. The huge sword was from a giant, not a titan. I don't think Tyr is in Pandaria, do you mean Ra-den? Yes Arthas was influenced by Ner'zhul/LK. Old Gods want to escape their prisons, they wanted to use Sargeras entering our world to make that happen. They did not communicate that plan to Sargeras so they were not working together.

  • @cphtfluke7565
    @cphtfluke7565 8 років тому +12

    Tyr is dead. He died fighting servants of Yogg-Saron in the land that would be called Tirisfal when he discovered Loken's treachery and was bringing proof to expose him.

  • @Nobbel87
    @Nobbel87  12 років тому

    See the old gods that we fight as very, very small manifestations of the entire being. Yogg-Saron for example is rumored to be as big as Northrend since Saronite Veins can be found all acros Northrend (Saronite is supposedly part of his body). This could also explain his connection to the Lich King (vision in his mind) since Icecrown Citadel is made from Saronite. This is all speculation ofcourse. Tyr himself also has speculation, but nothing confirmed.

    The theory is that Tyr discoverd Loken his corruption and took the early humans that evolved from the Vrykul away from Northrend. The Order of the Knights of the Silver Hand took their name and symbol from the myth of Tyr and his silver hand. One again it's just a theory. Aesir and Vanir are indeed also the terms used for the 2 different types of Titans.

    Hi Nobbel87, regarding your questioning why Nefarion was made an Aspect (with the purpose to prevent the Hour of Twilight) if we was to be the very cause of said event. I'd say that the Aspects were safeguards put in place against a vague warning. The Titans couldn't have known the exact details and planned as best they could. Sort of like writing a program: you plan for users to mess up and put in safeguards which they then use incorrectly or maliciously and then mess up in any case. My 2c...

    My three theory with regards to Alextrasza speech: 1)She was just giving a speech and she didnt really know the dragons true purpose 2)She was talking on a philosophical level about how by protecting Azeroth they fufilled there purposes 3)The titans knew the flow of events and they needed Deathwing to go mad so he would make the Dragon Soul(which did help turn the tide during the War of the Ancients).

    One thing about the dragon powers thing is that the dragons had to have these powers to change some events like the second lich king being bolvard instead of tirion which was changed by the life binders after the wrath gate.

  • @Andy4ewa
    @Andy4ewa 11 років тому

    Yea I agree, it's simply a chain of events: Titans hear phrophecy of HoT, create Aspects to stop it. Old Gods corrupt Deathwing, hoping to destroy this plan. They use Deathwing because he is a powerful being to do their bidding, therefore other Aspects have to stop Deathwing to prevent HoT and by doing so fullfill their purpose, so they lose their powers. No need to look for some infinity loop paradox there.
    Otherwise great channel keep them coming

    They could fix their mistakes by saying that the dragon aspects finally expending their power WAS the hour of Twilight. The Dragons were a huge defense and now they are (mostly useless?) Great vid btw.

  • @samuelchappell7280
    @samuelchappell7280 8 років тому +2

    I think that the titans knew that at some point the lesser beings of Azeroth would become considerably wiser and mature enough to be able to care for the planet. In a way, the titans knew that the old gods would eventually cause deathwing to go mad, and would cause the hour of twilight where all of the dragon aspects would use all of their powers. It's not very hard to understand if you think about it. Whereas mortals think in terms of hours, days, weeks, etc., the titans were thinking in terms of centuries, millenniums, eons, etc..

    Great video BUT I have a few things to say:
    1- Alexstrasza said it was the dawning of the age of mortals, but she didn't say everything would be fine. The entire age of mortals has yet to come because Mists of Pandaria was just the beginning.
    2- I see where you're coming from with your Deathwing loop theory, but the way I see it was that the Titans knew that the Hour of Twilight would be coming, but did not know that Deathwing would be the cause of it

  • @hookshot320

    There are remains of an old god in Ashenvale, that could have been one of the 5, slain by a titan though instead of imprisoned. Deathwing was corrupted by the old gods, but that was unforeseen, as we know that even titans can become corrupted. Basically his corruption led to a betrayal of his purpose, old gods manifested without his aid before, so the hour of twilight still could have been possible without his interference.

  • @TheDejavouGuy
    @TheDejavouGuy 11 років тому +1

    Personally, I think that what Alexstrasza had ment by, "Fullfilling their great purpuse" is that they have guarded the world and protected it until the point that the lesser races (Humans,Dwarves,Orcs,Trolls ect) were able to prove that they were capable of defending and protecting Azeroth as a whole.

  • @Nobbel87

    Killing all of them would mean the destruction of Azeroth which is a vague description. When they "killed" Y'sharaaj he did a final breath attack that infected the land with his essence and is the reason why we have Sha. Imagine that Sha would exist all over Azeroth, the world would become uninhabitable. Also keep in mind that I don't make up the lore, I just tell you the story that Blizzard comes up with ;)

  • @varnisa
    @varnisa 11 років тому

    continuing because I forgot to say something. Thrall was considered a worthy replacement as the earthwarder, armies of mortals stood against the old gods at the hour of twilight, and the aspects were weak, the mortals have been needed by the aspects more than needing the aspects for a while now, and despite recent events, mortals are and have been stronger than dragons for a long time.

  • @thegamer340
    @thegamer340 11 років тому

    Nobbel I want to know a couple of things first were can I download or look up the map used to detail the races of azeroth chronology, is the huge sword impaled to the serpent looking skull in darkshore from a titan, how did Tyr end up in pandaria, also was Arthas/Nerzhul influenced by the Lich King and why do the old gods wanted sageras to enter there prison are they working together?

  • @Polex411
    @Polex411 11 років тому

    I would say that Death Wing was suppose to keep an eye on the old gods and that the titans didn't understand the old gods ability to corrupt and manipulate. this is also shown by salgarous and how he was eventually driven mad after watching over the various demon worlds for so many years. The dragons saying they fulfilled their great purpose is either a sign that their dumb or they didn't expect the multiple old gods to return.

    I think Blizzard has the intention of not revealing all the details in regards to the Old Gods, just like N'Zoth during the Cataclysm, maybe in the future we will see this Old God in the next expansion featuring the depths of the Maelstrom since N'zoth is presumed to be down there. And also Y'shaarj's is not fully revealed yet in Mists of Pandaria, thou little is known from them as revealed during the mantid quest.

    Some of the races in Pandaria also have a connection to the the Ancient history of Azeroth: The Mantid are related to the Qiraji and Nerubians and according to the Klaxxi ruled at the same time. The Mogu were created by the Titans to create life. After they succumbed to the Curse of Flesh the Thunder King united them to an empire at the same time when the Trolls ruled in ancient Kalimdor and the Vrykul ruled in Northrend.
    The Pandaren Empire ruled at the same time as the Kaldorei Empire.

    one could argue the titan that empowered the dragon aspects of time knew all that could come to pass and that the hour of twilight was prophesied to shape events to where the mortals would grown in wisdom and power to no longer need the protection of the dragons, aka molding the kids to grow up and take there place

So according to that, the dragon aspects still have their powers, deathwing is not dead, and we are now overly powered for deathwing, with pandaria gear.

    I agree that Cataclysm ended oddly, but to try to make sense of it, you could say that the Aspects were there to combat the Hour of Twilight at the hand of the Old Gods. The Old Gods decided to use Neltharion after the fact, but they could have used other methods, so taking out Deathwing's powers wouldn't necessarily prevent the Hour of Twilight from occurring. As for the Aspects' purposes being fulfilled, maybe she thought the Old Gods lost their influence, even though this has proven false.

    So I'm not a lore wiz, and don't know if anyone has ever come up with this idea but:
    1) The Hour of Twilight was that idea of the Old Gods free, and the Dragon Aspectcs where dead or atleast they couldn't help defeat the now free Old Gods;
    2) Deathwing was sent to urge the HoT
    3) We killed Deathwing with the help of the Dragon Aspects, and "stopped" the HoT from coming.
    4) The Dragon Aspects say their porpuse is done and they are "mortals" now.
    Isn't this the idea of the HoT, after all?

  • @Oske15
    @Oske15 11 років тому

    The reason the Titans gave Neltharion his powers is because he was supposed to watch the Earth and the underworld. The Old Gods were not a part of the Titans' plan for Azeroth and the hour of twilight is something of the Old Gods' making. The destiny Deathwing is said to face may very well be to stop the hour of twilight but he wasn't the one who created it, but merely the tool.
    It's a very nice thought but you have to include the Old Gods and the Titans even more for it to make sense.

  • @bisterkding9249
    @bisterkding9249 5 років тому

    The purpose of the dragon aspects appears to me as twofold:
    1. Protect azeroth using their powers
    2. Eliminate each other should one or more fall to the old gods or fail their purpose
    Deathwing was one of a few clear examples of one of the dragon aspects failing their initial purpose. From their initial failure up until the loss of their power, I would assume that their purpose had shifted towards self destruction as a sort of built in failsafe designed by the Titans. The Titans aren’t that stupid :P

    Thrall became the new Earth Warder (hence the entire reason he left the horde and joined the Earthen Ring) and gained all the power Neltharion once had by becoming his replacement as the 5th Aspect much the way Kalecgos did by replacing Malygos. Separate their powers were not enough to stop Deathwing but by using the Dragon Soul to focus their powers into one powerful attack they would be able to stop Deathwing. When Deathwing dies their purpose is fulfilled and they lose their powers.

    Unto you is charged the great task of keeping the purity of time. Know that there is only one true timeline, though there are those who would have it otherwise. You must protect it. Without the truth of time as it is meant to unfold, more will be lost than you can possibly imagine. The fabric of reality will unravel. It is a heavy task--the base of all tasks of this world, for nothing can transpire without time. - Blessing of the Bronze Aspect by Aman'Thul

    I have a theory about the dragon aspects.
    The purpose of the dragon aspects was to guard the world.
    The mortals have become powerful enough to protect the world (we've killed many old gods so... )
    So maybe because of this, the only purpose which remained for them was to kill Deathwing as he was one of them?

    I don't think Alexstraza meant that was their destiny. She said, "We dragon aspects have fulfilled our great purpose." I think what she meant is after everything that happened it was up to them to prevent it by any means necessary, and that happened to include losing their powers. If you remember, the Dragon Soul was created by Deathwing and contained a portion of all the aspects power. Because of that they were never at their full power. And they used the rest of it to defeat him.

    What did the aspects do is the main question. Nozdormu, neltharion and kalegcos went insane. Their power only brought farther pain to mortals. Also the hour of twilight is the event that the old gods would ressurect. It doesnt matter who helped to that but the aspects power was ment to stop that event. Neltharion was just a pawn.

    I would say number 2.Because there has been very few points in the warcraft-history were the Dragon Aspects did not know what to do(Example participation in War of the Ancient)and it also would be strange for the aspects to act as they have throughout history if they didn't knew purpose.
    As for number 3, why would the Titans let their minions, Aspects, fight against one of their own if they knew what would happen? I refer to War of the Ancient, Sargeras and the Demon Soul.
    Good thoughts though.

    she doesnt say that they fulfilled their destiny, she said they fulfilled their great purpose; I would assume that they're great purpose is protecting the Titan's experiment, Azeroth, which they did do. great videos, recent subscriber, keep it up

    Do each of the old gods have some kind of weird body part? Like C'thun has heaps of eyes on him, and his first phase is an eye, and Yogg-Saron is just a mouth with a bunch of moths on him. Are the other Old Gods like this?
