- Tove the Unrestful is a Nord commoner living in Bliss, New Sheoth. He seeks your help in finding calipers and tongs to build a skyboat with. Tove seems to have trouble understanding the laws of the physical world, along with the concept of time, or maybe he understands it better than anyone.
Tove is true to his name, having a very busy lifestyle. He spends very little time sleeping, only taking a quick four hour nap at 2am in his upstairs bedroom, making sure to lock his upstairs door to prevent any unexpected guests. At 6am he rises, going through the door connecting his house and Books of Bliss to visit his flirtatious neighbor, Sontaire, for two hours, sometimes eating if he has any food on him. At 8am he returns to his house, unlocking the door to allow visitors access. At midday he goes to The Choosy Beggar for two hours of socializing, again only eating if he has food in his inventory. As long as neither The Cold Flame of Agnon or Ritual of Accession is running, he will go to the Sacellum Arden-Sul at 4pm for two hours of worship. When he returns home he enjoys a two hour dinner on the bottom floor of his house. He spends all his spare time working on his boat, either hammering at it with his axe or examining it.

A funny tidbit to add:
If you kill Tove before finishing the quest, your journal will say “I’ll never find another buyer for useless calipers and tongs”.
I love the irony of killing trolls over and over for the items only to be trolled by Tove.
Well, that's one way to look at it.
Probably the best way.
The whole quest seems like a bit of a brick joke, based on people getting annoyed by just how many calipers and tongs there are all over Cyrodiil.
In Oblivion especially, every second container has them. I don't think entire Cyrodil is compromised of carpenters, do you?
And its still a better quest than The Crown Of Barenziah questline
but not as annoying as *touching the beacon*

It's GREAT if you want to roleplay a classic Paladin on a quest to rid the world of the undead, armed with the power of the sun in your hands, but that's a bit TOO clitché for most folks these days.
That and Meridia's voice really grates your inner ear.

I suspect this quest was made to be purposefully obnoxious and trolly. The same can't be said for certain other infamous Elder Scrolls quests.
With certain roots, perhaps?
I always just collected calipers and tongs as I went about the rest of the game. Looting all of the Guild Halls when doing the Recommendation Quests usually brings me close to the required amounts.

I was so bummed out that we never got to see his sky boat fly.but it was a fun, but strange quest.
You can find it in the dragonborn dlc in Skyrim

This is from the Shivering Isles expansion. A lot of the graphics are improved in it.
Ok but what if you were to have all 100 calipers and tongs upon starting the quest?? Does it instantly go to the endquest dialogue where he talks as if time has passed?
I'm in the midst of getting through Oblivion, and because of this video, im collecting calipers and tongs ahead of time, I'll let you know when I get to Shivering Isles

i find it funny that the elf who wrote a poem about tove has his audio edited so he says "he his" instead of she her like in the subtitles lmao
I think it’s actually because the character might have been originally written as a female then changed tone to being male, so the voice actor used the new script but they never changed the subtitles potentially? Not sure
I saw that, too. Must have been an oversight while developing.

@@ravenoctober9936 there are no nord/orc females in the shivering isles, presumably because they couldn’t get the voice actor in. I assume that’s why they changed him to a male
I saw this as a perfect representation of the Madness of the Shivering Isles.
I experienced rage just watching this video…. So I can only imagine actually doing this quest…. You are truly doing the Lords work.

You could also go to Relmyna's place, where you build the new gatekeeper as well as the gardens of flesh and bone I believe.

I got to keep saying man I really appreciate you ate the Oblivion content I spent most of my childhood probably like no lie all together about 4 years playing that game not consistently but back to back to back and I used to love playing it I used to find out things all the time play the DLC over and over find out new ways to try to kill time have fun I used to listen to other people talk about the game while playing but now like when it comes to your videos I just genuinely sit down and listen

Wow, thank goodness! That's a pretty important observation to recognize and establish if you're building something new like a sky-boat.
Just imagine what a colossal waste of time this entire project/collectible fetch quest would be if you didn't have that fundamental axiom "water heavier than air" settled. 😞
interesting to see someone extend a video by explaining both the player reply and the npc reply and then play out all the responses in full in real time just as how the player would experience it

Okay fun fact if you go to Skyrim and make your way to solstheim by the DLC you can actually see the remains of a sky boat that has crashed
And it's kind of funny that calipers and tongs don't exist in the world of Skyrim considering the fact that he says that line about the world being devoid of calipers and tongs

In the DLC of Morrowind, Blood Moon, a Wizard in Vvardenfell asks the protagonist to travel to Solstheim and recover what happened to a Skyboat and Crew the Wizard had sent there for an expedition. The protagonist then travels to Solstheim only to find the Skyboat crashed and the whole crew dead.
Flying boats are in the lore. The dwarves had some
so that's why M'aiq the Liar was looking for calipers!

I have fun with this quest as side cash. To me Shivering Isles is the best DLC of the entire franchise if not gaming.
I remember downloading it on the 360 back when the game was new. Everything blew my mind, oblivion is such a great game 👍🏻

I just use the duplication glitch and get it over with.
I'd argue that getting calipers and tongs from respawning containers makes it a quest you start early and just complete along the way. Most of these type of collect/fetch quests are. They aren't really meant to be completed in one go.

Haven't played Oblivion yet, but these quests videos sure make me want to Download it. This video has no mods, right? If so, then I'm loving it's charm. The NPCs feel so alive, for some reason compared to Skyrim.
I'm fairly certain he's using a mod to make the characters' faces more detailed to look better. Oblivion's characters often look... very derpy. Other than that I don't notice any other mods. Do download it though. It's an awesome game 👍🏻

I never trtied to retrieve much of any of the hammers and tongs. I thought they were just a reason to loot hammers and tongs.
The high amount of them required was just too tedious to bother with since by the time i get (got?) to this quest i was getting 2,000 Septims apiece for armor and weapons from my favorite shop owners.
Thank you for your dedication to finishing this .. well.. frankly pointless quest. 👍
Have you heard of the game The Revenant? I wanna say it came out late 90’s early 2000’s on PC. It was a lot like Diablo. I still have it but it doesn’t really work on newer PCs.
Look up Good Old Games, as of me writing this reply they have Revenant for $1.50 US on sale in a form that should work on modern computers.
I wonder if his grave is different if he died before the quest is completed.

Honestly I like infinite money quests (as long as you don't have a mix of 100 of course as that ends this quest) money can be kinda hard to come by in oblivion

The most annoying quest is clearly The Great Divide. Trying to kill all of them without a bounty is almost impossible and requieres multiple tries and reloads. If you wait to long before starting this quest it may fail itself without you doing anything, because one of the NPCs may get killed by a random encounter with a monster.
Some quest as worse as Work is Never Done is the Britaur quest with the flawless pearls. You need only five pearls but that things are really rare. If I play through Oblivion all few years I collect every flawless pearl I find during my adventures before starting with Shivering Isles. After 250+ hours I may have 6 - 8 of them. So if you don´t collect them during the main game you are in trouble.
Some folks write they can be found in clams in the water, but I never found a single flawless pearl inside a clam in 15 years. :(

"Seeking Your Roots" is just as annoying. You have to find 100 Nirnroot plants total, and all you get is the stupid elixirs of exploration. Woop de doo.

The last time I played Oblivion the guards in Bliss killed a bunch of citizens, including Tove. So that's a quest I couldn't finish. Anyone know why the guards killed him?

If npcs try to pickpocket other npcs pr commit any other other crime they will always fail and get merced by the guards

The easiest way to do this is to start collecting them from the begging of a new game. The annoying thing is that he just chucks them all away!
For me is the pilgrims stuff visiting each shrine when you have no idea where is it when you 1st starting the game .There's no internet at the time in our place so it's a literal hell to do while learning English.
i wonder if the npcs are blaming tove for your thefts from their houses...

I couldn’t get through the Shivering Isles. Too many weird quests for me, and I’m always too busy for long games. It’s nice to see someone go through these. 😊
