You explained it beautifully and answered my thoughts about the avet reel.I would love to own one,but I would like to find one comparable in quality and cheaper in price.
I have several Avet raptors, I use Sufix 832 or PowerPro slick 65 and 80 lb on them and can cast 5 oz. at least 140 yds with the Jx 6.0 and over 200 yds measured, with a slightly modified Sx raptor on 13 ft Daiwa Ballistic rods. I use 10- 20 yds of 125 lb braid topshot, and I dont get backlash. Braid is your best friend, just dont use anything less than 65 lb. I use them for shark fishing in Texas, and they are awesome. This kind of range could never be achieved with mono that can dominate 100 lb plus sharks on the beach .
Victor, Yes I did stop the spool with my thumb to stop the ball as it was rolling down the driveway after it hit the pavement. I didnt expect to see that lady walk out from behind her car as the ball was rolling towards her haha!
After watching your video Ive decided to upgrade to a Avet reel with M.C. Cant decide which model would best for yellowtail fishing here in San Diego..Torn between the JX 6.0 or the smaller SX 5.3...will have Spectra with a mono topshot no matter which reel I wind up with this summer...any thoughts? thx
I have my Avet MXL MC spooled up with 300yrds of Suffix 832 65lb, and I use it for surfcasting. I have been wanting to put a fluorocarbon or mono top-shot on, but I am unsure what's best in terms of castability. Suggestions???
I have the mxl 5.8 an I really like it, I only use it for snook,shark,tarpon,or anything big really. I use live bait with it, can cast very nicely once you get the hang of it. mine doesn't have the cast control but its a great reel. an for the price I don't think you can get much better at all.
Is it ok to leave the lever on Bait setting to cast? Sometimes I need to slow the spool down like during strong gusty headwinds. Would this at all wear out or damage the drag system?

Sufix Tritanium Plus or Berkley Trilene Big Game for mono. And P Line Fluoroclear.
I think fire line cast as close to mono as any I've tried
