How well does it cast 2 oz irons and is it any good as a surfcaster?

Do you have guide the line to get it to lay right, We use mechanical guides in the uk? I like the idea of the events but unclear on this...

tony39802 we’re a little confused on what you’re asking. Could you possibly be referring to a levelwind?

I like the MXL Avet reels. This video is made 2 years ago I believe now they've been Kris the drag on the same reels can you elaborate with this cuz I'm real interested in purchasing a new one. Thanks I fish freshwater. And I just want one of those Reels real bad LOL I fish for catfish which would you recommend for me? And I want the magnetic cast control. Can you recommend a Avet reel for me

I just ordered a new Mxl without the MC for catfish, sturgeon and musky trolling. They looked to be about the perfect size

Is 80 lb powerpro a over kill? How much could it fit

Bassaholics I’ve used 450 yards of 65lb Powerpro. I’m sure you can use 80lb. I’m not quite sure how many yards of 80 it could hold though. I’m guessing around 320 yards

80 lb braid will reduce your casting distance and line capacity so unless you are meeting a legal requirement or need more abrasion resistance, I'd stick with 65 lb braided line.

It only has 14 lbs max drag. You would never break 50lb with that drag. ideal seems to be 50 lb test. Line to drag ratio should be 1:3 or 3x your max drag so 42lbs. Seems like it should have 25-30 lbs max drag. Seems under powered for how it is built.

A it late to the party. I have a non-MC LX 6/3 in left hand retrieve. It's got great free spool and the drag is powerful and fairly smooth. I do not agree that Avets dominate the Shimanos or, in my case, Daiwas. I've got 2 Shimano Calcutta Conquest 401s and 2 Daiwa Saltiga 30Ls, all 4 are 14 years old and the Avet is about 12. The Avet is nowhere near as positive, smooth, refined, or for that matter durable. Also, the others feel like they have power to spare and even after all this time, feel like new. My Avet is a 2 speed so in lower gear it does have great torque but just doesn't feel as effortless as the others, especially the Saltigas. That and the fact that it's not very well sealed makes water ingress a problem and explains how the bearings feel worn out despite being the least used reel of the bunch. Now, I do like the line capacity, color and 2 speed options, the great MC option, and that great drag with the Raptor version. And I understand that the gearing and bearing quality has been improved with these newer versions so I'll still give them a shot with a 2 speed, Raptor version of that MXL.

Great reel,a friend ordered an SX and a JX back in the mid,2000's,my fishing coach Pat Langevad, took them to pieces, called us over and said ,these things we're the best he's seen, the SX had been scratched in transit,my friend was inconsolable,I bought them off him!!,he ordered two new one's,I've just come back from a charter, both reels sit on my desk cleaned oiled and greased,I name all my reels these two are Batman( SX),and Robin(JX).."The Dynamic Duo"...KaBoOM..!!
