He says he's "fascinated" when you employ low chaos tactics. That doesn't mean he favors it. I'm fascinated by reading philosophical texts, but it doesn't mean I prefer it to reading fiction, or non-fiction. I view this the same way. His tone and his words during the high chaos ending seem indicative of him really favoring high chaos. He says "I don't know about you, Corvo, but I've had a lovely time." I mean, it's subjective and open-ended enough that either reading could be argued for, but I feel this makes more sense to me.
I don't think he favors either, he simply wishes to see what Corvo will do with the cards he is dealt. No matter what happens the Outsider is interested in how the story unfolds.
Dishonored and Bloodborne are the only neo-gothic stories that understand how imaginative new weird fiction can be when used right. Dark fantasy, cosmic horror and the weird have a lot of fluid overlap.
Thanks, K. Dishonored is so dope, I couldn't resist doing a lore episode on it! I've got one more planned, though I might do some mini-joints on Daud or Delilah. We'll see; it all depends on how well received these ones are.

the amount of work you put into these videos is amazing, i hope you keep making this kind of quality content even if you have to only post once per month because this is great stuff

It takes time. I suspect I'll be done with the script before the week is done, and that the next episode will be up sometime next week. Just hold a lil longer!

IAMChasingTheCool Dope! Dishonored is def a game that aging well. There's a lot of consideration that went into its lore and world building, and because the developers don't frame those things as pivotal information, casual gamers won't realize how good it is.
Gameological Dig, Thank you sooo much for this, I just found your channel today! (subscribing, plus left like). I really love The Outsider and was completely fascinated with the way you explained him. I was wondering if you are going to continue explaining more about him and Dishonored in general from the Dishonored 2 game and the upcoming game: Dishonored - Death of the Outsider (when it comes out of course). - My heart is breaking after hearing about and watching that trailer. I really want to play it, but I don't want The Outsider gone - he's too amazing. I know we got more information on him in the second game, but the way you explain everything is beyond intriguing. It genuinely makes me want to play the first game all over again just to take in more from what you have said. Corvo and Daud means there is two confirmed people with the mark, as Delilah is evidently alive in Dishonored 2 we can say there is three, with the addition of Emily bringing it to four. There is the possibility that we don't learn more about the unnamed woman, but I doubt that. So we can assume she is alive. Bringing it to five. Of course others could have been marked within that time.

I really liked the video! Thanks for doing lore for a game nobody else is really doing stuff on. For future vids maybe turn down the music a bit; it was a little hard to hear you, especially in the beginning with the firelink music.
Awesome job man. I'm playing Dishonored again and it is so enjoyable, or more enjoyable to dive into the lore of the world whilst playing. Thank you for putting the time and effort into these videos. Hope to see more in the future if your able. Subbed and liked. Cheers
5:00 The void molds fate, makes coincidences line up for its own gain. The Outsider was in the right place at the right time to be merged with the void. The void's influence on the cultist's was creating the fate that made them lead down that path.
My take on the outsider is he is just a Eldritch god that gets bored sometimes so to entertain themselves he gives powers to humans that play into some kind of worldly drama just to see what will happen
Damn, I look forward to more of these... There's like literally no good Dishonored Lore vids... Seems those are reserved for Soulsborne(Which they are fucken bad ass, not complaining)
14:30 so to me this proves that the outsider dosnt only favour high chaos, Daud loses the interest of the outsider when he settled into the life of been a heartless killer, it’s only when Daud starts to feel guilty over his actions when Daud has a choice to make that the outsider becomes interested again, yes he never took the mark away but after Daud played his part and cut off his morals that’s when the outsider got board. He dosnt favour one way or the other it’s the choice that interests him, seeing what you do now and pointing out the other path you could have taken.
I think another potential (but very unlikely, or at least unintentional) parallel is to the Vodou lwa Baron Samdi. The “greater spirits” in Lwan tradition aren’t necessarily omnipotent in the way monotheistic or supreme gods are, but their power over their attributed domains is essentially absolute, a lot like the Outsider. They are also fickle and fallible, very human in certain ways, but still alien enough to not consider their inclinations and pursuits totally comprehensible by humans. They commonly act as analogues for the human experience with a given factor of life, but, again, are not human and so their relation to those things isn’t the same as to humans. I specifically bring up Samdi, though, because he is the presider of the underworld/afterlife in Vodou. He also claims the many routes and traditions surrounding a person reaching the afterlife including murder, criminality, debauchery, chaos, death rites/funerals, cemeteries, healing, and resurrection. While he’s not known to give out super-natural powers like the Outsider, he is often attributed to observe mortal misdeeds, partially for his own genuine entertainment (as he’s portrayed as irreverent and amused by baser vices like smoking and drinking) but also to know how to regard them when they pass from life to death.
Brilliant series! I found this channel via the SOMA videos. I do agree with some of the points where hearing "quote" and "und quote" repeatedly is a lil too much. A possible solution to this problem would be to show the quoted text with the author at the bottom. That way, we'll know when the quote starts and when it ends without hearing "quote" and "und quote". You can get creative with this, you don't have to show the whole text in one go, you can cut it up into small bits, show it like a typewriter, there's lots of options. Just an idea from a guy who loves interface design...
i love how the outsider is pretty much a god of his own world and he chooses to entertain himself by watching dishonored gameplay
Firelink shrine music, and dishonored lore, very nice.
and demon's souls character creation ost
he needs to whisper more, I could barely hear the ost
They did my boy Dishonored like Dark souls!
I got the impression that the outsider favoured low chaos aswell.
He says he's "fascinated" when you employ low chaos tactics. That doesn't mean he favors it. I'm fascinated by reading philosophical texts, but it doesn't mean I prefer it to reading fiction, or non-fiction. I view this the same way. Undead Viking this is all answered in dishonoured 2, I'd say another video is needed
Undead Viking yeah because it's more "interesting" or some shit.
I preferred the high chaos route. Rats eating people. The swarm is what I used the most.
Dishonored and Bloodborne are the only neo-gothic stories that understand how imaginative new weird fiction can be when used right. Dark fantasy, cosmic horror and the weird have a lot of fluid overlap.

This was brilliant man
love these vids. still coming back to em
Well done in predicting the envisioned cult that was revealed in DOTO, word for word.
How the hell you don't have more subs??? Great video, liked subbed ;)
This is great really wish I had found this series earlier!
7:43 Don't know why but "preternatural" has become one of my favorite words recently...more art than science but contains both of those things.
5:00
The void molds fate, makes coincidences line up for its own gain.
The Outsider was in the right place at the right time to be merged with the void. The void's influence on the cultist's was creating the fate that made them lead down that path.
Very well explained, I have always longed for a content creator with the same enjoyment for this games lore as myself
Amazing work, You really do deserve more subs
My take on the outsider is he is just a Eldritch god that gets bored sometimes so to entertain themselves he gives powers to humans that play into some kind of worldly drama just to see what will happen
Fantastic! I can't wait for the next part.
really good, excited for the next one
Amazing video and great voice!
That firelink shrine theme is serene behind your voice
i could listen to this guy's voice all day
Damn, I look forward to more of these...
Yo man, so freaking nice and detailed video :D
When will the second episode be up?
Thanks! Sometime this week most likely!
Can't wait :D
FINALLY someone who noticed how important the whales are when it comes to the void and magic
I'm listening to this while playing dishonored
Your voice is beautiful and I love it.
brilliantly explained
Maybe my settings are whack, but I cannot understand half of the script. It's almost as though the narration is mastered too low.
I think the outsider just wants to give an opportunity to fight back against those who are in power, because he never got one himself.
Amazing video. Subbed
I got the impression that the outsider gives people power just to see what they’ll do with it.
Great finds dude, it totally match with Dishonored 2 !
