Yeah I just bought the game and thinking to myself I bloody hope they don't somehow ruin the character... Then again I know nothing of him and would only be projecting my own conscious onto him... But still yeah... It would suck to witness and watch all of mankind.... It would be torture seeing how pathetic everyone treats each other. Imagine if there was a being in our world watching us all the time and not just watching but experiencing us all the time... Fuck that... I'd become a mad God probably even a wrathful god.

@@theirishviking9278 Thats fair enough but I think youre missing why I made my initial comment in the first place, the dude who made the video says verbatim "the outsiders lack of omniscience" is why he can't determine the outcome of certain scenarios (or something to that effect, I havent watched this video in quite a while) but this just isn't true. Omniscience can be viewed as all-seeing OR all-knowing by definition, and they kind of go hand in hand, whereas omnipresence means simply being very common or being everywhere simultaneously, which the outsider also is. So your definition isn't really right either. The outsider also outright says he holds domain over the mind and dreams, and yet he can't tell what someone is going to do when it matters? I think the outsider IS all-knowing and all-seeing, even into peoples minds, but he's selective about what he chooses to 'listen' to so that he has a form of entertainment. Him being surprised isn't because he couldn't know, he just chose not to peer into Corvo or Emily or Daud or Billy's minds so that he could watch, for lack of a better term, spoiler-free. What's actually going on with him is up to interpretation but this is how I see it from the evidence surrounding him and the Void, as well as things he straight up tells you. He tells you that he sees everything, omniscience, he tells you he feels everything, omnipresence, he tells you the mindsets and motivations of certain characters (as well as granting powers over the mind). The only reason he's ever surprised by the player's actions is because he is choosing to only observe their actions and experience the psyche of everyone but them. Alternatively, he could be lying the whole time and know exactly what the player was going to do before they did it but acts surprised as a form of encouragement to keep the entertainment coming, theres really no way to know and is up to each player to decide.

From the descriptions of the Void through the games, it sounds like a metaphysical concept that exists in our minds made manifest, which is why it has structures that represent the character's perspective or recent events. It would also explain the fact that the Outsider is known to appear in dreams, something that exists in our minds. It also just sounds like a metaphor for the void inside all of us, that knows who we are and watches from the inside. Just a completely hypothetical take I thought was fun to think about

The void was created by the death of a god very ancient one that existed before our universe that god decayed and from decaying he created the void so while decaying our universe was born and the decaying matter was latter found by humans and they couldn't explain the property of this matter but they studied and learned so much so they sacrifice the boy so he could be able to control the matter from within but as the Outsider said that the void in this state wont last forever and that the void was never meant to be used anyway!

I think he's in a way like us, if we gave like, idk our little siblings dishonred and said: play. We, too would know (if you're a nerd like me) every single possible outcome, dialogue, easter egg, etc. and we'd probably be curious to see how our siblings handle things. And tbh, now that i'm imagining this, i think it would be cool to see someone else play and maybe go high chaos and do creative stuff, but it would get very boring very quickly and all of a sudden, it would be way more interesting if somewhere along the way, the person we're observing... stops killing and finds alternative routes. That would make us go like... oh ? He's discovered this route? That's interesting, let's see where it goes....

Just to be clear low chaos does not mean clean hands.
Corvo 100% killed some and spared some. We know The High Overseer was branded, but corvo totally butchered his way through the golden cat due to the fact that they knew Emily was about to be moved and would want to act with haste.
And so on. Lord Regent and the Executioner are Canonically killed. Meaning Burrows probably flees to the dungeon and corvo confronts both after broadcasting his message.
And Havelock is confirmed dead. Either by suicide or fighting to the death.

I think that it is implied the Void is populated by the interpretation of each character that visits it. And so when Corvo visits it, he sees the Outsider with the black leather coat because that is what his interpretation of a being in that situation would be. This is why in D2 the void and the Outsider look different. They are viewed by different characters. I like this explanation a lot and it makes sense. Our minds are the creators of infinite universes and the only limit is our imagination.

Or perhaps he is like Loki - a tricky, mischievous god being. He says that only 8 people wear the mark, but 4 of them are in Dunwal, so the rest of that world must be extremely boring since he prefers to meddle in the destinies of people living on a small island... Perhaps he takes an interest in Dunwal because that city has some meaning to him from his past life 4000 years ago. He seems to direct the players to saving the city from the rat plague by helping out the ruler of that city in a few different ways. Or perhaps he feels responsible for the plague, because it was people that came in contact with him that eventually brought the plague from the eastern continent to the islands.
What is very clear though is that he influences several people to help out Emily in the long run. Which means he either has an interest in Emily or in the city of Dunwal itself...

Does Delilah become the next avatar then?
Since Death of the Outsider operates under the assumption on the low chaos ending from Dishonored 2, Delilah should be trapped in the void. Trapped in the fantasy of her perfect world.
So during Death of the Outsider, it could be said that there are two avatars and that could be why the Outsider urges Billie Lurke to find him. Because he knows whether Billie kills him or not, the void already has a replacement for him. Maybe that's why he gave Duad his mark. A long game plan to free himself from the void he had been trapped in.

  • @Heliohecho
    @Heliohecho 4 роки тому +5

They way I perceive it, the Void kinda represent the power of Omnipresence and none of the other aspect of god, I based that on the power of the players that we assumed are his own too. The blink is self explain since it's a short ranged teleport, the time travel or time vision can be also easily associated to omnipresence. The possession is more tricky but I can still see it as an aspect of omnipresence if our mind is a space (And if we want to move around the world it is). Délila powers to rewrite reality through painting definitely is a form of omnipresence, and so are the shifting state of matter caused by the spells and bone charms (and would explained all the missup of it because no one understand how to properly applies the power since it kinda is not straightforward). Yes the Outsider isn't a full God but he definitely had some aspect of one.
Another aspect that goes with my theory is how Billy perceive void disturbance throughout Karnaka and we have heavily implied clue from the Eyesless that it was Délila resurrection that had caused it. Meaning that void magic 'breaks' reality and the Outsider might try to avoid that ence all his 'restrain' acts. It also ties to his distastes to Délila (for her utter lack of concerns about anything but her twisted visions) and other cultes he didn't really bless such as the Eyeless who wouldn't be responsible enough for such consequences.
My last theory to explain his action is he might had tried to create the situation of Death to the Outsider where somebody is determined to put an end to his plight and hopefully not take his place nor leaving anyone with the means to do so. The eyeless don't know how to create another Outsider and they are the one with the most clues for that. It would explain why he marked both Daud and Corvo despite the conflicting allegiances because their impacts had mold the world around them to weaken dangerous groups and render them inept to commune with the void without an Outsider to help. but i might be stretching a bit there.
What you make of those tidbit of theories on the Outsider?

Near as I can tell, the outsider isn’t necessarily neutral because he’s in the middle, but rather because because he’s on both extremes. At least in the first game, the outsider is pleasantly surprised by either extreme. Yes he’s happy when you achieve the low chaos ending, and yes it seems that he only tolerates the high chaos ending, but in the lesser known third ending (I’ve heard it called total chaos) wherein Emily dies, the first thing he says is “I don’t know about you corvo, but I’ve had a lovely time” he just wants to see history change and witness human nature. I think it’s a very believable position for a 4000 year old demigod who learned everything ever as a mortal child

Could the change in the voids appearance be related to the pollution of the oceans? After all, there are strong oceanic themes to the void (theres even whale ambience) and in D2, theres an explosion of industry. Heavy machinery and overfishing are everywhere, significantly more prominent than in D1 and we see severely polluted waters and whale carcasses presented throughout D2. Since the void reflects reality and seems strongly ocean themed, I thought there'd be a connection

A completely omnipotent god is more of a modern idea that goes hand in hand with the emergence of a singular god as opposed to multiple or many gods. I’ve actually studied this concept in some detail and have really only found one set of unified details in religion that sets a god aside from mortals across cultures and history, and that’s an indefinite lifespan and no need to procreate. Most gods that humans have worshiped through our history are minor compared to the concepts we are working with today. They have need for sustenance, they can be harmed or destroyed, so on. They typically only represented rule over some small portion or aspect of reality.

There’s a few flaws here. If I remember correctly Delilah wasn’t marked by the outsider. How he put it, “Right up until the end I thought I'd find a way to escape. I fought but the ropes only cut my skin so I went limp. And then the knife touched my throat and I knew I'd waited too long. The blood ran out and I became a god. Now you know Delilah's secret. At the end of her days, she drifted through the Void and should have been lost forever. But her will and cunning are second to none. She found this place, the island in the Void where I became what I am. It changed her and she discovered a way to draw from it, tapping into the power here. Delilah is... a part of me now. And I don't like it.” So with this she had found her way in the void finding the place where he became a god.

I think you have a bit wrong about this. The outsider in my opinion cant just pull anyone into the void. Each time he hands out power, he does so from a dream. People who have recieved his power can seemingly be called by him, but other people, like Piero who isnt gifted powers, is instead gifted knowledge through dreams. I feel like you need to be marked to be called at any moment. Either that, or you need to be around a place of worship for the outsider, something piero never had. Also since some powers seem to manipulate time, i feel like him calling you to the void, would be him stopping time in the real world, while he pulls your mind into the void.

I really dislike the outsiders character change from 1 to 2, it makes no sense after thousands of years he all of a sudden starts feeling and wanting to help? In the first game he gives his powers because he thinks it's fun to see what they do, a somewhat insidious god. His voice change makes sense with the personality change but the original made the most sense.

He gave his powers to Delilah and never took them, he outright forces his power on Billie in death of the outsider.
I'm just saying it's a rather drastic character shift with no in-between, we didn't see him gradually change through the series no he becomes a completely separate person in the sequels.

@@brognis why does her being in the void change him, he doesn't change when corvo or daud are there, sorry I know you said you haven't played doto but I think it's relevant. He is stuck in there for a while though im not sure how long, obviously considering the name you can kill the outsider or you can spare him and just undo the ritual that turned him into the outsider.
I just think the games following dishonored 1 made him too human regardless if Delilah was there.
He gave corvo, Emily, daud and Billie his mark because he thought it would be interesting, not because he thought they would do good with it.
You always have choices in the games to do the bad things and some kills are Canon like the brothers and Campbell. I'm not sure if there are any kills in 2 though I could see it since it's impossible to make a Canon story giving it being two different characters.

If you follow the low chaos ending of Dishonored 2, which Death of the Outsider does, then she is currently trapped in the void already. And given how cleaver she is, I'd imagine that she would eventually notice the voids whisper and how her days never end. It would only be a matter of time before she realized and started peeking into the real world again, by which time millennium could have passed.

Thats one of the reasons Ardyn calls them false gods after obtaining their memories they use their superiority to manipulate an kind in a way they seem fight and they can be killed or subjugated as Ardyn did.
