MAKE YOUR COWLICKS DISAPPEAR - Stop struggling with separations and TRY THIS!- hair tutorial

  • If you struggle with cowlicks splitting and you normally flip over to rough dry and get some of the water out first, OR you use a round brush to get volume on the top STOP! You’re actually encouraging the cowlick to pop up and separate.
    TRY THIS INSTEAD:
    Take a circular section all around the cowlick. Begin by wetting down the roots REALLY well. Blowdry down and across the cowlick, pulling down on your section from the top with tension so you’re not lifting at the root at all. Switch to the other side (still pulling down, just blowdry across the cowlick in the opposite direction). Switch ONE MORE TIME back to the direction you first started with. Now split the circular section in half horizontally. Blow each section straight down and back, and then marry the 2 sections together.
    TO LOCK IT IN:
    The cowlick should be fully dried, and laying in a neutral position. To lock it in that way, gather the entire cowlick together, and pack a little tease at the root. Smooth out the top layer of hair and finish with a little hairspray. Now you won’t have to worry about it splitting in the middle again or popping up ALL day long.
    * If the cowlick is back the next day after sleeping or showering, just re-wet the area around it again with a spray bottle and repeat these same steps. This is a temporary styling fix. Remember: there’s no permanent fix for cowlicks, and no amount of “training” will give you permanent results.
    These are the steps that work for 99% of the cowlicks I face when styling my 230 clients’ heads of hair, and I hope some of these tips help you too!
    I personally find it easier to use one of these tools instead of a round brush, because it helps eliminate the possibility of lifting up, but use whichever tool you feel comfortable with:
    A COMB - i like a hard rubber comb so it doesn’t melt under the heat of the dryer. BUY Y.S. PARK COMB HERE- amzn.to/3rKSk8Q
    A MASON PEARSON (POPULAR) BRUSH - BUY MASON PEARSON BRUSH HERE - amzn.to/3uqBddN

    Well let me just tell you. This is an awesome discovery. My cowlick is about 2 inches long and the older you get the worse it gets and with your method I don’t see it anymore. I don’t touch it anymore. I don’t look in the mirror every day. What I did to different was after I read it. I put some mousse in that area to keep it in place this for me is like a miracle. Thank you so much.

    Every once in a while I come across similar video tutorials [not necessarily about hair, but 'how to'....] and after a minute I have to steer away because the individual is just too annoying. You, young lady, are pleasant to listen to because you get to the point, have a very nice voice, your personality comes through and have loads of pertinent info that you explain well. Your lead-in caught my eye because I have quite the stubborn cowlick, made worse by sleeping wrong. At 71 yo, it's been about 40-50 years since I had long layered hair [I so wish I was 25 again] and wearing it a little shorter now just makes the cowlick worse. I'm trying this tomorrow morning! Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work on your channel!! 😊

    I'm usually really lazy with my wavy hair but since this started happening to me I have tried everything and it only sort of helps. The follicles actually hurt in that area because the hairs are so adamant about laying a certain way. Feels great to use a scalp brush on the area. Thank you for the tips, will try for sure!

    • @ashleyhopehairplay
      @ashleyhopehairplay  Рік тому +2

      Oh yes a scalp brush is amazing! Like a little massage 💆‍♀️. The scalp can be sensitive when the hair is pulled in a different direction than how it grows, even a little sore, just be gentle in that area and guide the hair but don't force it. It will get more used to it the more you do it. Similar to building a tolerance for tight ponytails. Good luck styling! Keep me posted. Thank you so much for watching! 💕🫶🤗

    OOOMMMGGG!!! I wish I would have watched this video YEARS ago!! I have struggled and fought with my cowlick at the crown of my head without success-and even used to do hair back in the 80’s and no one ever showed me this simple, effective method to disappear that ugly, bald-looking cowlick! Not even my current stylist who I’ve gone to for 6 years now-she always does an impeccable cut and color and I generally like the way she styles my hair yet that damn cowlick is still there! I can’t wait to see her next and share this with her!
    One of those techniques that you’d think EVERYONE would know and share-TY for enlightening those of us like myself who’ve all but given up hiding our crown cowlicks! (Or any cowlick for that matter-it works on the one at the front of my hairline as well!👍🙏🥰✨)

    I take that same section of hair after shampooing and put in a hair claw until hair is dry. At night, take the same section of hair and make a pony tail with a nice, thick 'fabric' hair scrunchy and secure high with a small clip, and settle in for a beautiful night's sleep.

So, I just blow dry my hair upside down and after, of course my cowlick shows, so, i use a water bottle and soak the area of cowlick and use a fine tooth comb and thoroughly com down the area close to my scalp and wait for it to dry. When the cow licked my head he licked the entire top back of my head, lol! Funny, not funny really. I will try this, though my hair is short, and adapt your technique to my curly and shorter hair. I love your humor, as well. Great personality! Have subscribed my dear!!

      I love YOUR humor! The cow licked the whole top 🤣.. so funny! but also not funny bc I want you to be able to control those so they don’t aggravate you 🤗 I’m almost finished editing the “part 2 of curly cowlicks” now! (It has a trick for the crown cowlick in back if you wear your hair curly).
      “Wrap drying” is the technique I really focus on… a tried and true Vidal Sassoon technique from way back. We want to manipulate the hair back and forth while the roots of the cowlicks are saturated and wet and keep it FLAT to the head, without lifting. Then at the end, when they’re 95% dry blow in the direction you want to wear it in. You can apply this to any area of the head and with any comb or brush. That’s the gist of taming cowlicks my friend!
      Thank you so much for watching! 💝🙏🏽🥰 I hope some of these tips are helpful! Xo

    If you want straight hair, no point in wetting it down. In fact it can be done with a paddle brush, or a denman. Wet hair won't start doing what you want until it's about 70% dry. Paddle brush is essential.

    Can you comment on the effectiveness of your technique with very fine hair? My hair has become SO fine and it’s made my already severe cowlick a million times worse, and so much more obvious. I remember when I was young my mom was in a CONSTANT battle with this same thing which I now know I inherited from her. She is no longer with us I wish I could tell her about my struggles with this she would sure get a kick out of that fact 😂

    • @ashleyhopehairplay
      @ashleyhopehairplay  5 місяців тому

      I’m so sorry for your loss, but happy your mom would get a kick out of this bond we share! 🫶🏽
      I myself have extremely fine, thin hair I wear extensions and cover my scalp with root touch up powder. I’ve been doing hair for 20+ years and am actively seeing clients at my studio who have all kinds of varying textures, degrees of thinning and thickness, and stubborn cowlicks in numerous places on their heads. This technique works on every cowlick, on every texture. Every single time. I vouch for it. I rely on it daily. I teach it to my guests. And whenever I try something different it’s always a problem, and then I have to wet it down and start over with this technique.
      Now, I will say fine hair can be trickier to work with bc it dries so fast. So my advice to you my friend, is to make sure you work on the lowest air flow setting so you have the most working time. (Highest temperature, lowest setting) Comb the hair opposite the way the cowlick splits as soon as you get out of the shower. And even still i would spray it with a water bottle right before I started drying it. But Dont even wrap it up in a towel . Then sooner rather than later get to blow drying using this technique. Dont wait a long time before drying . The closer the bristles on your comb and brush are together will determine your grip on the hair. Use whatever you have that gives you the best grip on the hair. Most densely packed bristles. And actually pull it in the opposite direction that it wants to go in when you start blow drying and hold it down so it can’t pop up. ( I will make a video for you this just gave me an idea 💡). Without moving your brush, lower the air onto the cowlick and then away so you can dry it while controlling it the entire time but not burning your scalp. Then once the roots look dry wrap dry back and forth to blend that section with the rest of the hair. And final pass in the direction you want to wear it.
      I hope this is helpful. 💕Keep an eye out for this next video it will be for you.

      No worries! That’s tough, but u can still work with it. Make sure your cowlicks are good and wet. You might even need to do one at a time and wet the next one as you go bc they might dry too much in between just by the residual air floating around but u want to really make sure your first pass with the brush brings as much of the hair from the cowlick opposite the way it wants to go as possible. You’re cancelling it so against whichever way it grows as hard as possible and straight out the gate. Then follow the steps as normal. That should give you the best result. Attack the strongest one first. Good luck taming my friend!! Thank you for watching!! Xo💓💪🏽🤗✨

    Putting a wet piece in with the dry section defeats the work you just did. One section at a time, if you want to take longer, or Al of it and in concert will give the same result from front to back.

      That’s ok! This technique works anywhere! 👉🏽 just wet down the area around the cowlick, brush directly over it when blowdrying (back and forth until it’s dry) and then finish with the direction u want it to stay in. Lmk if u give it a try- it’s super easy! 🫶🏽

    This could work when i wear my hair flat, but some days i use hot rollers raising the hair in that area. Now what? Also, when i get up i the morning it's prominent. Is there something to KEEP this from happening in the first place?

    • @ashleyhopehairplay
      @ashleyhopehairplay  Рік тому +2

      Such great questions! 🤗 I have some questions back 👇
      Are you blow drying before you hot roller set?
      I would use this technique to do just the cowlick area at minimum to get it under control even if you dont blow the rest of your hair in the morning before you set it. Then so you don't encourage popping up on the cowlick section, but you still get volume and curl, take that whole circular section around the cowlick that you dried and set it in 1 roller so your cowlick isn't splitting anywhere and set it OFF BASE or a little farther back and not straight on top of the section. I hope this answers your question. But Lmk if I didn't and keep me posted if u try. 🫶💝🤗

    What if you have a cowlick in the middle front at the hairline that forces the hair downward in front of the forehead, like I do? I have a low forehead and want the hair to go away from my face there. I’ve tried confusing the root, but the small section of hair at the cowlick keeps falling forward in an awkward way. Hair spray does not help. Thanks.

    • @ashleyhopehairplay
      @ashleyhopehairplay  Рік тому

      Great question - you have to get it when it’s really wet. And go straight back wi the ur first pass of the brush and blow dryer. Start brushing back, then side to side until it’s dry, the. For the last pass, back again until the section of hair falls off the brush. That should give u the best results. Sometimes if the cowlick is really stubborn I start slow. Low air flow but high heat on my dryer to give myself more time to work and control it. I hope this helps but keep me posted! Thank you so much for watching 🧡😘

    Just curious will this method last from shampoo to shampoo?

    • @ashleyhopehairplay
      @ashleyhopehairplay  Рік тому

      Great question 🤗 ideally yes! As long as the hair is fully 100% dry when you’re done with the technique it will stay until the hair gets wet again. (bc you are breaking and re-setting the hydrogen bonds in the hair by Fully wetting and then fully drying it). The key is to keep drying it for a few more seconds than you think it needs bc any moisture left in that area could make the cowlick reappear as it dries fully. 😉🫶
