Hi Jody, Great video gives me a bit of confidence I could try it on one of my older watch, as a Scot's man you should know gargling with a nice drop of whisky helps clear a sore throat, if by accident it slips down no harm done. take good care.
I have been looking a buying a Duro for a few years but never pulled the trigger as I thought it might feel too cheap. Finally, I ordered one a few days ago and it arrived today. I think it is high quality and looks great even without the crystal and bracelet mod. I did order the parts to upgrade but may hold off for a while. I want to enjoy the watch as is before upgrading. Should have purchased one sooner 😊.
I looked in vain for a DIY mod vid for the Duro for while. It's not out there till now, Jody. You're the man and you've done Duro fans a great service. I hope you get a bajillion views. This is detailed and let's the average Joe like me pimp my watch with confidence because I just got started with watches early this year. It's nice to have all the parts sourced. I was going to pick up a Crystal Times Saph, but I decided not to because, like you said it costs as much as the watch and that just seems silly. A huge thanks and 👍.
Jody - your vids always inspire me. I recently blagged a Duro off Amzn (£38) and just finished modding it using a 22mm 'Omega style' bracelet that I had sitting around spare and left over from a Pagani that I had swapped out for a leather strap . I added an Orange 'Planet Ocean' style bezel insert off eBay ( £15) + Sapphire Crystal with Blue AR coating from AliExpress (£17) and it has transformed a good lookng watch into one that looks just as nice as a $$$$ Rolex / Omega - so thx for the inspiration Jody. ....I'm sure Rolex must be getting worried ;)
So due to Jody's recommendation I purchased a Casio Duro. Received it less than a month ago. Got a nice black/grey Bond NATO strap for it. Was happy as a clam. This afternoon while putting back on my wrist I dropped it face down on the ceramic tile bathroom floor. Guess it's time to buy that sapphire crystal now.
I was going to say, the only mod this is missing to make it perfect is the hydro mod. That would negate any concerns of water resistance right there and give you a pretty bulletproof setup. I think I'll have to do this suite of mods on my blue Duro. I also wanted to do the sapphire crystal from crystal times, but $50 was more than I felt like was reasonable to spend on it. $18 is much more manageable. Thanks, Jody!
Hey Jody thanks for keeping that orange pitcher in your back ground, we had one when I was young growing up in Adelaide, it reminds me of home, oh and your videos are great, thanks.
Awesome, looks fun and a very worthwhile lot of upgrades. Those tools look cheap and handy, pretty fiddly trying to get the clasp micro-adjust spring bars out with dental floss, haha

Screw down crown and all that diver look with non-rotating bezel. Seems to be waterproof
A really great set of mods, nice work not cocking it up. 😁 But, to be honest, the only mod I would do on a Duro would be improving the lume. I'd put it on a nato and replace the crystal if and when I scratched the mineral. But the lume would be my first improvement.
Really helpful video. I love my Duro but the always wished it had sapphire as I'm pretty rough on the watch., epecially as I wear it as a beater. These mods were just what i was looking for and will make it that much better!! Will be ordering and giving it a try. Thanks Jody.
Perfect watch to mod for newbies. It's a really good watch, it's popular, and it's inexpensive. Omega Planet Ocean bezel inserts fit perfectly, though I forget which size at the moment. Have a blue insert installed right now. Just don't try to remove the bezel to do it. The factory bracelet is a Planet Ocean similar style as well. Oil filled with a domed crystal looks good, too.
Funny, I was looking at bracelets for the Duro just yesterday. It looks great on the strapcode bracelet with the endlinks (made for Seiko, but fits), but a $100 bracelet for a $50 dollar watch is a bit of a hard pill to swallow. Pacparts sells an OEM bracelet for about $18, but its a special order and takes about 3 weeks. Aliexpress appears be the way to go with this one. May I ask why you changed the clasp provided with the bracelet? Love the video, hope you feel better soon.
Feel better soon! Thanks for being a champ and making another great vid. Every time I watch one of your mod videos I feel less nervous about taking off a case back with my amazon tools.
Nice mods! You've inspired me to pick up a saphire upgrade once I scratch the crystal on mine, but so far it's holding up well. I think the Duro also looks great on a shark mesh bracelet. I picked one up off of ebay for 20 bucks and wore it all summer long. And just an aside, most reviews I've seen put the lug to lug at 48mm not the 52mm you mentioned. I don't have calipers to verify with mine but it might be worth double checking.
Fabulous video. If you put this on a jubilee bracelet, I would have fainted, woke up and requested you mod mine. Watch looks amazing on that metal bracelet.

Good job! Now I'm happy an confident to open my watch, You show that it's so easy! I'm brazilian and is a great honnor to see you dressing a t-short remembering Ayrton Senna.
I never knew any of this - great informative video. If the watch has a flat round recessed crystal the cheap and lazy option is to slap on a smart watch screen protector of the correct size. Obviously it can then be removed/replaced if any scratches/cracks happen. I did that to my Bertucci and it is unnoticeable other than the fact that it actually seems to have reduced the glare. All for £3.00.
Casio used to sell different versions of the MDV-106 on bracelet, but no longer. That replacement bracelet however can be found on parts pages and eBay. It looks great, and fits the lug profile perfectly. But it's hollow link, very visible from the side. Apparently the "5kx" has the same profile as the MDV-106, and any bracelet for that watch fits this perfectly. Strapcode has a whole page for it. Solid end links, solid link, milled clasp, in multiple versions. If you truly want the upscale MDV-106, that plus the Sapphire does it.
The original hardened mineral crystal is more smudge resistant and less reflective than sapphire. I think I’d wait until it had significant scratches before I’d consider a mod that will almost certainly destroy the 200m water resistance.
@@m39fan when a manufacturer like Casio says it’s a 200m watch, it’s a pretty safe bet it’s a 200m watch, at least until the first battery replacement.
Did this same thing last night and it was easy and fun. I tried to order a cheap bracelet that was more to my liking but still in the low-cost direct-from-China price range and I just struck out on that one. It looked more substantial in the picture but it feels flimsy and I don't like it on the watch. I can see what's going to happen here. Now I'm going to have to go find something in the $60-$100 price range on Strapcode to make my upgraded $49 watch feel right... This is how it starts isn't it?
🚗💨Absolutely LOVE your shirt! Senna is the reason I got involved with motorsports! I own three Casio Duros. One stock, the next is my James Bond version with the NATO strap, and the third is my Omega Ocean version with Orange outer dial and Orange dive strap. One of my favorite watches in my collection! Love your channel! Keep up the great work!
Stick it on a sailcloth strap in either dark grey or brown & they look awesome & still safe for diving. If it's a desk diver, whack it on a rough leather strap & it looks well beyond its price range, even without the sapphire 👍
Thanks for carrying on for our watch entertainment with a cold. Do take care. Bracelet looks like it does many favors for the look and fit of our humble Duro. I use mine for a beach watch in the summer months and wear it on natos, though. So it currently lives in a drawer for the North American winter, dreaming of being an all year weekender on that bracelet. Maybe I'll be inspired to order these ali upgrades.

Hi Jody, I did my Duro upgrade mods last week, same bracelet but i did pay €20 for the sapphire, I did opt for the double dome with a blue anti reflective coating, i must say the blue coating does give the casio that little touch of class. Can't wait for the summer and some swimming in the sea. I did however silicon grease the seal so its well watertight now. Cheers, see you next review. oh, and get well soon.
I've got a Duro with a dented crystal (dropped it on a concrete locker room floor when I was changing it at work). I didn't know you could get sapphire crystals for the Duro until this video! A watch repair kit, a new crystal and a new battery will be all it needs to bring it back to life!

Obviously it can then be removed/replaced if any scratches/cracks happen. I did that to my Bertucci and it is unnoticeable other than the fact that it actually seems to have reduced the glare. All for £3.00.
It honestly looks like it could be a $500 watch.
a subs nöt 500k D
With the bracelet it kinda reminds me of the omega seamaster 300m professional
Liked even before the hellllllooooo! 👍
Thanks mate!
The water resistance is a guess anyway. Unless a watch says Diver's 200m or ISO 200M, it's pretty much a guess or marketing.
@@m39fan when a manufacturer like Casio says it’s a 200m watch, it’s a pretty safe bet it’s a 200m watch, at least until the first battery replacement.
Oh Jody. Come now you should have upgraded the bezel there as well!
Great video as always 👍
I would've appreciated a ceramic bezel insert swap too, but this was a great vid :3
I think alu are available (Omega Planet Ocean 45.5mm) but not sure about ceramic.
@@djzrobzombie2813 I THINK that was a mistake in wording. Jody always ups the milled clasps....
I think he misspoke about that. Jodi has often voiced his preference for a milled clasp in previous videos.
I like your videos and I love your accent, so I suscribed to practise my english while enjoying learning about watches. That's a win win after all.
When the fudge is Casio going to release a Duro reduced?!?
Casio Duro. One of the best watches ever. One of my favorites.
I never wanted a Duro until now.
LOVE my Duro!
Not sure why anyone would bother upgrading this watch, but I did enjoy the video. Get well soon mate, Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
When you mod a watch and the crystal is worth more than the movement
Great recommendations!!! I am thinking the bracelet and the clasp first as I do not have the tool to switch out the crystal.
"Scottish Barry White"
Brilliant.
‘Cannae get enough o’ yer love, lassie’
Just changed my Sapphire today, great guide, tricky getting the new one back in though, still feels slightly high on one side
"She will be mine........oh yes, she will be mine."
Belíssima camisa, ao maior piloto de todos os tempos , Ayrton Senna!!!!!
The best of all times!
I'd love to see you swap the quartz movement for a mechanical movement.
Stick it on a sailcloth strap in either dark grey or brown & they look awesome & still safe for diving. If it's a desk diver, whack it on a rough leather strap & it looks well beyond its price range, even without the sapphire 👍
Send it to Bill gates so he has a posh watch for a change.
Wow it looks very clean. Great video Jody
"In a world were watch reviews just aren't enough... One man will dare to mod... What no one has bothered to mod before."
Nice and simple mods! Get well soon Darth Jody
Great review Jodi
Just ordered 2 clasps one for my watch one to just lay around the house
Thanks
Great video, And it's cool to see another Ian M Banks fan. Player of Games is one of my top 5 favorite novels.
Wow, mods like a BOSS! That watch looks amazing. Well done.
Definitely one that I want to add to my rotation I have never wore watches only one that was passed down and I broke it within a month but I’m starting to get back in with a couple new watches this watch with the silver bracelet it’s a very clean budget watch 100%
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR MODS ON THE DURO
THANK YOU JODY
And feel better soon!!
I've got a Duro with a dented crystal (dropped it on a concrete locker room floor when I was changing it at work). I didn't know you could get sapphire crystals for the Duro until this video! A watch repair kit, a new crystal and a new battery will be all it needs to bring it back to life!
I also bought some Zulu straps, a black leather strap and a mesh bracelet.
